Tired after another long, depressing week of following the news? Well, in non-news today, I can report that Sarah Palin’s descent from ambitious politician to crazed media stalker is continuing to pick up speed.

Jobs Gambit for Catfood Commission II a Bit Late |

This is the ultimate “train has left the station” proposal. If this were happening before the debt limit deal, maybe it had a shot. But that’s not where we are. There were reportedly some extensions of things like the payroll tax cut and unemployment insurance in the Obama/Boehner grand bargain, but Boehner rejected that, as surely as he would reject this.

| By: Kevin Gosztola Friday August 19, 2011 4:00 pm |
A court has ordered Glenn Mulcaire to disclose information on who gave him the order to hack the phones of Elle Macpherson and at least five other public individuals, including a Liberal Democrat deputy leader. The Party Line: Japan Nuclear Crisis Continues, Highlighting More Potential Dangers in US |
| By: Gregg Levine Friday August 19, 2011 3:00 pm |
Imagine, if you will, living somewhat close to a nuclear reactor—not right next door, but close enough—and then imagine that an accident at that reactor causes a large release of radioactive isotopes into the atmosphere. Certainly scary, but maybe less scary because you know your government has computer models that show where the nuclear fallout will blow and fall, and they explain that the amounts that will blow and fall on you are negligible.
Sure, you might think twice about that reassurance, but it is not like they are saying everything is OK. The government, after all, did evacuate some people based on their fallout models. . . so they are on top of it.

Last night, Keith Olbermann named Ray Sandoval, the New Mexico director for OFA (Organizing for America aka Obama for America), as the Worst person in the World — well almost, he won the bronze medal.
Sandoval is the one who sent around a blog post blasting Paul Krugman and the firebagging left.
Obama Lets Slip Plans for Chained CPI |
| By: David Dayen Friday August 19, 2011 1:00 pm |
What the President isn’t telling people is that he offered an alteration to that automatic COLA process, by going to chained CPI, that would result in a slower increase in benefits, and a de facto cut. So at the same time the President is explaining that the COLA is not in his control, he is hiding the fact that he wants to change the metric upon which it is based. In fact, he slipped and actually did mention chained CPI, in a roundabout way, at a second town hall in Alpha, Illinois. (cont.)

Latino and immigration activists have staged mass walkouts of federal task force hearings over the Obama Administration’s immigration and deportation policies, including “Secure Communities.” This week that pressure had an impact, as the Administration revised its rules. But activist groups aren’t satisfied.

Rick Perry’s Innovative Educational Model: Students Get to Decide the Right Answer |
| By: Blue Texan Friday August 19, 2011 10:30 am |
A lot of people are talking the Secessionist’s response to a question about evolution.
Let’s put aside the fact that evolution isn’t just a “theory that’s out there,” that there aren’t “gaps” in it — and that Texas doesn’t teach creationism. All of that is just factually wrong and crazy, to boot.
