If the Secessionist wants to own the jobs situation in Texas, then he’s got to own this as well.
No other state has added more jobs than Texas over the past year, but the state’s unemployment rate in July still was the worst it’s been in nearly a quarter of a century.
The state had a net gain of 29,300 jobs last month, yet the jobless rate rose to 8.4 percent from 8.2 percent in June, the Texas Workforce Commission reported Friday. The rate was 8.1 percent in July 2010.
The last time unemployment was this high was 24 years ago — July 1987 — during the state’s oil and real estate bust.
Clearly, we need to import more minimum wage jobs from California or take more federal bailouts from the Obama administration.

Rick Perry Wants to Fornicate with ‘Merica
Could it be that Baggers like Perry actually love their country—‘Merica’—a little too much? In the speech in which Perry implicitly accused Obama of being unpatriotic, Perry did not just say that he loved his country. Oh no; he said something much different. Perry doesn’t just love ‘Merica; Perry is in love with ‘Merica.
But being a good fundamentalist Bagger, Perry won’t actually start screwing America unless and until she says “I do” on January 20, 2013. And if she does, Perry has already put her on notice: she’s going to get f%^&ed …

Rick Perry Wants to Fornicate with ‘Merica
Looks like people are moving to a job creating state even faster than the jobs can be created.
I can see it now: states competing for low wage jobs the way they compete for new corporate installations. Do I hear a bid of no corporate taxes for eternity?
He sounds exactly like Bush. Do they breed these idiots like cattle in TX?
Technically, it’s only fornication before the vows are exchanged…not that Governor Goodhair plans to keep any of his vows that involve upholding the Constitution. That sort of thing is just so passe…
He never engages, just pimps his blog and splits.
You’re wasting your electronic breath, EDP. Heycoachb just plants a blogwhore comment early in a thread (usually at Swim) but doesn’t engage at all. Best to just ignore it like spam.
Well, ten he’ll never know that he doesn’t understand the meaning of “fornication.” Not my fault…
Prolly not the only thing he doesn’t know the definition of.
Sadly, people should get used to it. This is the new normal. And whoever they get in the WH will ensure that.
Also consider the massive growth of the corporate prison system. Slave wages that actually do compete with China.
Basically ignore the unemployed. Does what? Relegates them to … desperation and lack of choices. Then homelessness and hunger. Then they steal. Then they get sent to prison … and voila, slave labor that not only competes with China, but also exemplifies the perfect worker for corporations, ie. desperate, imprisoned, no choices and no benefits, … aka the perfect tool, use, dull, throw away and get another one.
LOL! I notice most commenters are just ignoring those posts. If they’re going to the blog, nobody’s saying so. I guess they’re not as bad as the spammer with the designer handbags that visits periodically.
The last time unemployment was this high was 24 years ago — July 1987 — during the state’s oil and real estate bust.
Perry wants to run for President with these numbers? The total number of jobs created is a nice number but if unemployment is still high then its obvious he has not created enough jobs.
Also Gov Walker was claiming recently that he was creating the most jobs in America.
I wonder if the GOP strategy is to have every GOP governor who thinks their voters are stupid use the I created more jobs in my state Talking point?
Reaction to Perry’s Job claims in Texas by regular people would be interesting.
I don’t think anyone says it better than the one, the only, Jon Stewart!
Given the high price of oil I think we can say that when oil workers wages don’t go up even high oil prices won’t stimulate the economy like it used too.
Doesn’t he just look arrogant….or sorta like a glib auctioneer? No offense to auctioneers; they have a different job.
As Obama and the GOP fight to lower workers wages, benefits etc to make American exports cheaper even industries with high demand like oil, and industries with a high profit margin like oil won’t it seems stimulate consumer spending and create higher wage jobs or more employment even in a state like Texas where the cost of living is low.
Perry’s Texas is Thomas Friedman’s best case scenario outside of the tech sector of Globalization and Outsourcing lowering prices.
But it also shows he is wrong about Globalization and Outsourcing creating good jobs, and enough jobs to keep our economy growing enough to maintain our living standards.
Also the Tech sector Apple is moving jobs to China where low paid workers are so depressed the jump out of the building to commit suicide and Apple had to put up nets outside the building.
Tom is wrong about Globalization and Outsourcing creating good jobs in America or good jobs in China so they can buy our products.
Well they buy food they have too, they buy our tech they can’t yet make for them selves but they are not buying Ipods but they are stealing that tech so Globalization and Outsourcing is in fact a failure.
Seems like the plan, a race to the bottom so we can compete with the low wadge countries. Their vision of 22ed century Merica; selling cheep manufactured good to prosperous China.
“Their vision of 22ed century Merica; selling cheep manufactured good to prosperous China.”
Scary, but true. I imagine many of the rich may decide to get Chinese citizenship as well as US and/or start marrying their children to rich Chinese.
I saw this quote from a resident of Texas on the Doonesbury page at Slate last week. “Perry has indeed created a lot of new jobs in Texas. I’m working three of them myself.” (not verbatim, but close)
What in the world are you talking about? If unemployment has hit the whole country hard, but Texas less hard than other states, what’s the problem with identifying Texas as a bright spot?
Sad….
You’d have to be pretty desperate to tout the creation of minimum wage jobs as a major accomplishment, especially when your education system ranking just fell to 49th in the nation. I guess, coupled with the rampant pollution fostered by the deregulation of industry, that explains that Texas pride.
