CNN in a Hurricane: Like Pigs in Sh**t

They love this, don’t they? This is what news is all about in the age of corporate media: pictures and sounds and bells and whistles. CNN couldn’t have been bothered to discover whether Saddam Hussein really did have weapons of mass destruction or whether Karl Rove orchestrated the outing of a CIA agent or whether those little red blood vessels on George W. Bush’s nose were telling a story the mainstream media didn’t want to report.

But winds and waves—an entire CNN army patrols the nation’s shoreline …

Who the hell cares what Colin thinks?

Exactly!

He helped Cheney, Bush, and the gang abuse and disregard any threads of decency in our intelligence agencies. Our military and tax payers/citizens of this country in order to conquer and take resources. Nothing more.

He should be on the war criminal list with the rest of them!

Just listening to democracynow and the VT disaster that Irene caused. Flooding around where I am can be accommodated bc the land along the streams can spread out when they flood, and while swift, and damaging, is still manageable.

In VT the streams run betw mountains and as the gov sez become raging rivers. I’ve done enough hiking up there, mostly in NH not VT, to know what he’s talking about. It is catastrophic.

The Man Who Knew

“One analyst, Greg Thielmann, told Correspondent Scott Pelley last October that key evidence cited by the administration was misrepresented to the public.

Thielmann should know. He had been in charge of analyzing the Iraqi weapons threat for Powell’s own intelligence bureau.
————————————————————————–
“I had a couple of initial reactions. Then I had a more mature reaction,” says Thielmann, commenting on Powell’s presentation to the United Nations last February.”

Had a more mature reaction? Oh, I’ve always wondered what was the right term for letting your country go to war based on a lie. My bold.

That is not true for Margaretville, NY. We got wiped out and we are about 60 miles to the West of you as the crow flies:

We got everything from Hurricane Irene, except the mermaids.

Hurricane Irene killed at least 18 people from Puerto Rico to Connecticut, caused an estimated $3 billion in damage and cut electric power to more than 4 million homes and businesses across the eastern U.S.

I know irene was powerful and caused damage in the southern part of the country, but here in the northeast this thing was not even as strong as the flash storm we had last year, a storm that lasted about an hour and did far more damage then irene

as I mention in my diary, in the north east, this looks to me like they shut down entire grids intentionally and pro-actively, it does not look like the storm did this whole sale, entire quadrants were without power, usually when a storm causes a power down it’s cell by cell, block by block

in ct power was out from at least exit 40 all the way up to the border, I cannot believe such a mild storm was able to take out every power cell along the way, the same thing was true for the southern areas of long island.

I am going to become known as the irene conspiracy theorist!

I don’t have all the facts for your area, I just know that I’ve been through many hurricanes and tropical storms. I believe I saw some posts where the electric companies had to shut down certain grids due to water damage or the threats to the system.

Eric Cantor is going to help, though. He is going get the money by gutting some more school lunch programs.

When people like those in your town (and the poor kids in the lunch programs) are hurting, that is the Republican response.

And where are the Dems standing up to such hate speech? ? ?

Not until October, if then. Twice as many hives does not necessary mean twice as much honey bc you’ve got to leave enough for twice as many bees to make it thru the winter. Both my hives got a late start: one thru being split then swarming, the other thru varroa mites. They’re doing OK, and both should be fine for the winter, but not sure how much honey will be left for me.

it looks to me like that’s what they did in southern long island and a good portion of ct, I think they proactively shut down the grid.

but I gotta tell you, this was premature, the storm did no damage here, there is hardly any debris and if I told I saw three trees down that would be exagerating

well here ya go’;

LONG ISLAND — Irene is ravaging the island with widespread power outages being reported on Sunday. According to the Long Island Power Authority, more than 275,000 customers in Suffolk County and more than 189,000 people in Nassau County are without power. LIPA said that electric service has been intentionally shut down on Fire Island, Crabtree Island, Robert Moses and Oak Island. To report any power outages, call 1-800-490-0075.

that’s what they admit to, I am going to lay odds they proactively shut down entire areas besides that one, I am going to include ct in that bet

If there is going to be means testing for recieving S.S. then it seems to me that there should have to be means testing on the revenue side. Those who can afford more should pay a higher percentage (based on an individual’s total gross income)of their S.S. taxable income if we are going to cap the amount of income that is taxable.

Also, isn’t raising the S.S. retirement age counter productive to preserving the program? If you force older people to work longer, isn’t that removing job opportunities for younger people who need income in order to contribute to the trust fund. The only way raising the eligability age works is if the subsequent attrition rate is equal to or greater than the job creation rate.
