CNN in a Hurricane: Like Pigs in Sh**t
They love this, don’t they? This is what news is all about in the age of corporate media: pictures and sounds and bells and whistles. CNN couldn’t have been bothered to discover whether Saddam Hussein really did have weapons of mass destruction or whether Karl Rove orchestrated the outing of a CIA agent or whether those little red blood vessels on George W. Bush’s nose were telling a story the mainstream media didn’t want to report.
But winds and waves—an entire CNN army patrols the nation’s shoreline …
CNN in a Hurricane: Like Pigs in Sh**t
Morning, BT. Fuck Colin Powell.
Friedman is a useful tool. Colin Powell might as well endorse an aluminum tube.
Who the hell cares what Colin thinks?
He helped Cheney, Bush, and the gang abuse and disregard any threads of decency in our intelligence agencies. Our military and tax payers/citizens of this country in order to conquer and take resources. Nothing more.
He should be on the war criminal list with the rest of them!
Ouch. Bad sentence. Oh well, you know what I’m saying and feeling.
Just listening to democracynow and the VT disaster that Irene caused. Flooding around where I am can be accommodated bc the land along the streams can spread out when they flood, and while swift, and damaging, is still manageable.
In VT the streams run betw mountains and as the gov sez become raging rivers. I’ve done enough hiking up there, mostly in NH not VT, to know what he’s talking about. It is catastrophic.
The Man Who Knew
“One analyst, Greg Thielmann, told Correspondent Scott Pelley last October that key evidence cited by the administration was misrepresented to the public.
Thielmann should know. He had been in charge of analyzing the Iraqi weapons threat for Powell’s own intelligence bureau.
“I had a couple of initial reactions. Then I had a more mature reaction,” says Thielmann, commenting on Powell’s presentation to the United Nations last February.”
Had a more mature reaction? Oh, I’ve always wondered what was the right term for letting your country go to war based on a lie. My bold.
It certainly is. Our local reporters are saying that NC had wind at 115 mph at one point.
Has anyone heard from Cynthia? Last I saw of her the roof had started leaking.
Oh, it was pressure and money I’m sure. Nothing at all mature about it.
That is not true for Margaretville, NY. We got wiped out and we are about 60 miles to the West of you as the crow flies:
We got everything from Hurricane Irene, except the mermaids.
Hurricane Irene killed at least 18 people from Puerto Rico to Connecticut, caused an estimated $3 billion in damage and cut electric power to more than 4 million homes and businesses across the eastern U.S.
I know irene was powerful and caused damage in the southern part of the country, but here in the northeast this thing was not even as strong as the flash storm we had last year, a storm that lasted about an hour and did far more damage then irene
as I mention in my diary, in the north east, this looks to me like they shut down entire grids intentionally and pro-actively, it does not look like the storm did this whole sale, entire quadrants were without power, usually when a storm causes a power down it’s cell by cell, block by block
in ct power was out from at least exit 40 all the way up to the border, I cannot believe such a mild storm was able to take out every power cell along the way, the same thing was true for the southern areas of long island.
I am going to become known as the irene conspiracy theorist!
Gov of VT sounds like one of the few sensible human pols that are in office. What a bit of fresh air.
Yep. I did hear a bit about the Catskills on the local channel this morning & its exactly the same story as VT. Are you personally OK?
I don’t have all the facts for your area, I just know that I’ve been through many hurricanes and tropical storms. I believe I saw some posts where the electric companies had to shut down certain grids due to water damage or the threats to the system.
Will you be harvesting soon?
I hope you and your home are ok, but wiped out is a pretty good description of what the photos show. I’m so sorry.
Eric Cantor is going to help, though. He is going get the money by gutting some more school lunch programs.
When people like those in your town (and the poor kids in the lunch programs) are hurting, that is the Republican response.
And where are the Dems standing up to such hate speech? ? ?
Not until October, if then. Twice as many hives does not necessary mean twice as much honey bc you’ve got to leave enough for twice as many bees to make it thru the winter. Both my hives got a late start: one thru being split then swarming, the other thru varroa mites. They’re doing OK, and both should be fine for the winter, but not sure how much honey will be left for me.
it looks to me like that’s what they did in southern long island and a good portion of ct, I think they proactively shut down the grid.
but I gotta tell you, this was premature, the storm did no damage here, there is hardly any debris and if I told I saw three trees down that would be exagerating
This is a tourism area, so this storm is pretty much an economic disaster. I really can’t think of anything good that will come from what happened. Not yet anyway. :)
That is wonderful news. I’m glad that not many people in your area were harmed. It is a sad thing to have a home flooded or destroyed at any time, but with our economy so bad it is the worst disaster ever.
Mornin’, BT, pups
What econobuzz said about Colin Powell but with more gusto.
In happier news:
No, I think nothing good will come of it. I’m so sorry.
Okay. I will try to remember to put up some more honey recipes next month.
Poor little thing! So glad he was taken care of.
well here ya go’;
LONG ISLAND — Irene is ravaging the island with widespread power outages being reported on Sunday. According to the Long Island Power Authority, more than 275,000 customers in Suffolk County and more than 189,000 people in Nassau County are without power. LIPA said that electric service has been intentionally shut down on Fire Island, Crabtree Island, Robert Moses and Oak Island. To report any power outages, call 1-800-490-0075.
that’s what they admit to, I am going to lay odds they proactively shut down entire areas besides that one, I am going to include ct in that bet
There were not any casualties. That’s good. Don’t worry about it.
I am going to work on some humor about the whole deal: like how there were no mermaids, just plastic covered bales of hay and floating oil tanks!
You have a good day. I am going outside to clean up the mess.
Goolsbee on Morning Joke. Utterly clueless.
A very large campaign contributor has some more ugly hiding. Customers need to be aware of this:
LOL! Yeah, utterly clueless. Not funny to us, but funny as you commented.
Good Morning, BT, Wet and Shaken Pups
I’m pretty sure that there are many people who were emotionally stirred up this weekend. This kind of turbulence takes its toll in many different ways.
Hi demi, did you get some rest last night?
Morning. It certainly does.
Cheney says Rumsfeld was the best boss he ever had. Learned a lot from him.
Crooks in prison learn to be better crooks. No reason to believe that sociopaths in authority don’t learn to be better sociopaths.
Like a log. Weird dreams though. You’re sweet to ask.
(Your photo at myfdl reminds me of a photo of myself on a neighbor’s horse, taken when I was about 15 – is that a recent shot?)
Relax and proudly hold yer head up today.
Oh my gosh no. I was 18. You wouldn’t want to see me on a horse now :
I’d love to see your riding photo. Some Caturday maybe we can have a virtual photo album for anyone brave enough to show their new reality.
Thanks, dear. I’m going to do just that. You were very sweet yesterday and I should have thanked you for the wise advice then.
(You going to tell msohm about Mr. Sadness?)
She came back to Caturday and I gave her the comment.
That would be a trip. Photos of us and animals, from way back until now.
(Did you figure out how close you and sadlyes are? It would be great if you two could hook up.)
Those guys have been best buds from way back. They still did ‘continuity of govt‘ exercises during the period when neither was in govt. Something profoundly ominous about that, that I’ve never seen anything reported about. I’ve seen it mentioned, obviously, since I know about it, but not why they did that nor what they did.
Me, here. He did, I went back to Caturday later and he pulled out that comment for me.
I have formed a very distinct visual image of Caturday and its denizens.
We’re in a full blown “Carter-type” malaise — with an irrelevant president.
Heh, I’ve got my hippie pic all over the place. Too old to give a shit.
We could probably meet in an hour and a half and I hope we will do so. I remembered on my profile page there is a link to my old cafepress store. There is a photo from about 2007, but I’ve gained a ……little…….weight since then!
OK, Braveheart, cough ‘em up :)
Indeed it does. As Margaret mentioned yesterday, adrenalin isn’t meant to stay in our system for long periods of time. Nor anxiety, neither.
Good Morning BT and Firedogs,
fyi – James Hansen, NASA Climatologist will be joining the Tar Sands Activists at the White House fence today
I’m sorry, I have been way over caffeinated for weeks and need an intervention. Someone, please take me gently by the elbow, steer me into a quite corner and softly whisper…..STFU!!!!
Different pic than the one you see at Caturday or my profile but same dude.
Oh, I just read your profile. There you are! Great hair, which reminds me I have to do my roots this morning.
Weight? That’s what mother nature leaves under our pillows after we become Women of a certain age. Who doesn’t enjoy having a little extra girth in the tummy?
That is a great shot. You look much more stern than I picture you, but you were in a serious situation there.
If there is going to be means testing for recieving S.S. then it seems to me that there should have to be means testing on the revenue side. Those who can afford more should pay a higher percentage (based on an individual’s total gross income)of their S.S. taxable income if we are going to cap the amount of income that is taxable.
Also, isn’t raising the S.S. retirement age counter productive to preserving the program? If you force older people to work longer, isn’t that removing job opportunities for younger people who need income in order to contribute to the trust fund. The only way raising the eligability age works is if the subsequent attrition rate is equal to or greater than the job creation rate.
You’re doing just fine.
Ask SD for the Tuxedo Shot. You’ll swoon.
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.
US KIA Afghanistan: 1,751
US KIA Irak: 4,474
Iraki, Afghan and Pakistani casualties: estimates vary to over 1.5M
US MBS 2011: 29,760 and counting
No war but class war
Be good to yourselves, and all other living things
Never. Give. Up.
Well, I haven’t done that in a while! I’m a patient woman. Let’s wait and see what’s forthcoming.
I almost remember the emotion of swooning. Funny how things change as we, uh, mature. Mostly now, I’m happy to be just fairly comfortable.
You like this pic, doncha?
Me, too, but it is a constant adjustment as we age, to sort of re-invent ourselves. There always needs to be something in one’s back pocket to strive for or look forward to.
You are going to be fine today. It won’t last forever. Talk to you tomorrow. I’m going to check out this photo and head out for the day.
Bye, pupses, take good care.
I do. Especially the shoes. I mostly remember how neat it was that you surprised the bride. There a precious and special moments in life to cherish.
Good Morning All…Demi, Take good care today…You’ll be fine b/c you are, of course. I managed to spend most all day on this machine on yesterday; maybe Ill be a bit more constrained today w/no Caturday. The Book Salon was really good, also.
And I really do not understand the poo-pooing of the storm stuff. There were in fact major damages and great threats….I think not recognizing that would have been very negligent…but Im old ;) and have lost cars to flood in New Orleans….My $.02.
Forever Young. Thanks. You take care, now, ya hear?
Rest easy today, kind lady.
I would like to fill a stadium full of families and their special needs adult children/siblings and have Mr. Perry make his comments about Social Security being a Ponzi scheme and a lie.
Perry must love the idea of a radically punitive and abrasive society. And this man calls himself a Christian? Shameful.
I really liked when I was walking to one of the bars they had set up for another single malt when a lady from the NAACP said, “Excuse me, but you’re the sharpest looking dude in the place.” Made my day.
I do, too.
Hi RevBev, meeee toooo. It is addictive. Give Angela a little scritch for me. Bye now.
I know the religious I normally hang with all agree.
The right wing fundi thought that the Bible calls on individuals to care for each other does not mean government should not help.
‘Mature’ = having the ‘Facts of life’ pointed out to you, by people who wouldn’t even think twice about having your wifes’ brake lines cut…?
hmm.. ‘just because someone is paranoid doesn’t mean ‘they’ aren’t out to get ‘you” ;)
