Iron Butterfly — In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida (1968).
What’s on your mind?
Way, way back, Suz!
hey newton — how ya doing tonight? didja bring your love beads and incense?
Aloha, Suz and pups…! *heh* My Mom used to play this song so much, it drove me crazy…! ;-)
aloha tut — i used to play it to drive my parents nuts :) how’s paradise tonight?
Love you, Suz.
hey loohoo — how ya doing tonight? socal or ps tonight? love ya too
Or some really bad weed.
All is well, thank you.
that would work :) after all, we are dfh’s
All I’ve seen was clouds below me all day…! The momma-to-be is nauseous and all, when I’d talked to her on the phone, and the Better Half is probably flying by me as I type this…! She’d escorted an Elderly lady to Honolulu, today, to see a specialist…!
Socal, sweets. I have to be here at the second half of the month to pay the bills.
I decided to keep the underwater house for now…
I thot it was Bill Egnor’s post at first . .
If one listens to the full version, with a bit of a buzz on one way or another, it still has that epic multiple parts impact like rock opera like tunes had . . . Stairway, Freebird n the like.
A classic, over played, and STILL a classic IMHO.
Dang, I’m gonna have to dig deep to offer sometin to this one.
Hmmm . . . vague n obscure, too, but epic . . . yeah, I got some idea’s . . . wonder if Kelly knows of this former Denver band I got in mind (goes a diggin to teh utubez).
kewl loohoo — how are ya enjoying retirement?
Really good tunes.
hey larue — oh yes i did :) how’s sac tonight?
Uh, is bad weed good stuff, or the shit you bought once on a street corner before walkin into a Fillmore Show that smelled more like Oregano only ya did’nt know what Oregano was? N gave ya a headache after rollin cigars out of a whole ounce of it the first set? N STILL got more stoned off the general air ya were breathing inside?
That would be the latter.
Love the freedom of being retired. We all need to work to make sure everyone who paid their dues can retire with respect.
It’s all good, the Better Half had volunteered to assist her for the day trip there and back…!
The momma-to-be is mostly cranky and all…! ;-)
edit: I’m actually glad I’m up top for the two nites…
one pill makes you larger
Sac’s ok, seems the temps change nightly . . last night never cooled off, tonight looks better . . . guess we gonna get mid 90′s more than lo 90′s for a week . . . wtf do they know . . . marine layer thickness drives our kewling . . . winds might kick up thru FAIRFIELD but without a heavier marine layer the winds get warm by the time they get here . . . no real kewling at night . . . I need to utube a bit, back soon . . . *G*
(she really LLN’d Inna Godda Da Vida!) lmao!!!!
Iron Butterfly takes me back…
Ghot storey hoss?
i bet you are — the cranky is a real good sign tho dood…. if she gets on a huge cleaning kick, it usually means she’s gonna go into labor within a day or two. i had huge cleaning jags with both my girls and went into labor with each that night
Flowers N Beads.
Still got the vinyl somewhere . . . lol
Saw Iron Butterfly at Grossmont College in 1972ish.
excuse me while i kiss the sky
i’ve got the vinyl too
how cool loohoo. i bet this song was rocking down the house live
Ghot Cowbell? Iron Butterfly Did, So Did THESE Guys.
This was before my ‘time’ by nearly a decade… as ‘Post-Boomers’ though, we kinda basked in the afterglow.
have another hit…
Always loves me some cow bell, Larue…! ;-)
hey ppd — how ya doing tonight?
the only prescription is
You guys are all showing your age.
I’m about a decade younger, so there.
Good tunes nonetheless.
hey tuez — how ya doing tonight?
Newt… Did you hear the news… Apple CEO resigns…
I’ll be doing better in a minute. You’ve caused me to get out some smoke.
You guys have turned me into a juvenile delinquent. I hope you are happy!!!
I’m surprised it didn’t happen sooner, considering the type of cancer he has.
Amazing that I thought Jimi was IT back in the day. So many of us worshiped him because of his world view. Sad what has happened…. I still hold out hope.
One Of My Favs, But I Been Wrong Before.
One of the dudes had a 3 or 4 octave opera like range, incredible.
Everyone Knows This Tune, Not This Version.
N if ya were payin attention to the am or fm transistor radio, then ya knew this tune from LONG ago . . . an HP Lovecraft classic that still has legs.
White Ship. Harmonies, Hi Up One.
N that’s how it is, back to you Chet.
hahahaha! pass it over to me
we lost so many that had such potential…. jimi, janis, jim morrison, otis redding…
Hi you all:)
Don’t get me started, that’s a whole full three day diary on them dudes . . . ;-)
Mahalo, n enjoy the views n paychecks hoss!
May she birth quickly n happily!!
God I haven’t heard that in decades.
Um, okay I’m getting old too.
we were half a million strong
Heh, seen him in a few movies lately n a local second tier channel.
He did one wierd one with Johnny Depp that was done in 90 minutes as was the plot outlined to be done . . . In The Nick Of Time. Weird, but I liked it . . . hard to do a movie in 90 minutes, with the plot set to 90 minutes, too . . . art! *G*
hey margot — how’s ohio tonight? i love that song!!!
This is more our age, tuez…! Juke box hero…
All y’all need to heed yer elders . . . we gots LOTS to share with ya you might have never heard about . .
Heard that, my guess is . . . failing health . . .
Love him or hate him, he put MAC on the map!
They still roll pinners or use small pipes for a hit, due to cost?
*Not that I’d know about them thangs*
let me take you down
Thot is was all about a liver transplant?
See, THIS is classic LLN vid skills.
Not the chart hit, but the B sides . .
OMG! How many wonderful times does that take me back to? Thanks so much!
He’s had pancreatic cancer for several years. Pancreatic cancer takes all prisoners, sooner usually.
My ears, oh my ears!!!!!
hey Newton, thanks for that song, pretty!
I always learned more about artists from their ‘B’ sides than from their ‘A’ sides.
Good good, no problemas aqui.
Thanks, that ‘splains it . . .
Agree fully with yer comment, also . .
It will be a loss to humans . . . all of us.
He WAS that good . . .
No those of us true hippies, don’t like to skimp. That said, I’m amazed at how it gets “cut” by some.
You’re welcome Loo Hoo! I know, this is all kind of a soundtrack of my high school years. I can almost smell patchouli and Clearasil.
I’ll never forget the day I got my iPod and all of a sudden realized what genius was involved with that. It was like boom, a lightbulb went off.
I scare myself.
Don’t forget strawberry lip gloss.
On edit: I did not mean the double entendre.
As Jobs has pushed back from the helm these last few years, Apple has morphed from a design/invent the future culture, to a sales/units company.
Expect that pace to increase.
Have Another Hit..
Quicksilver was an awesome jam band.. Cippolinas amp is on display at the RR Hall of Fame..
Duncans lead lines were exquisite.
They invented jazz rock with Gold And Silver, originally Aculpulco Gold And Silver until Capitol said nyet..
What a time…
sitting in the sweet spot between the speakers
hey magilla — how ya doing tonight?
Too funny! My patchouli oil put me on the watch list! Still love it though. Gotta buy some.
What a shame…! 8-(
Well, time to suit up and head out…! See ya’ll in about an hour…!
How do ya cut good bud?
Never heard of THIS one . . .????
In a gaddida vida … classic, Suzzz
we’ll leave a light on for ya dood
glad ya liked it ppd
With tobacco. The English are really fond of it, as are the people who weren’t weaned on the stuff from south of the border. It seems to be common.
Oh, and they would never smoke a whole bud at one time.
goes back over 40 years, he?
I know a nurse who gets vodka special-ordered (100 proof?) and makes her own patchouli perfume. Doesn’t smell at all like it to me, just wonderful.
i’m gonna leave the city
Sic transit click and drag.
My fav song ever, and by them . . . indeed.
I saw them a lot in my early to late teen years, but only ONCE with the original 4 and them doing this one.
Duncan n Cippolina trading leads n licks on this is as epic as Bloomfield, Bishop, BUtterfield n Naftlin tradin licks on Work Song.
Two of the greatest rock songs ever done IMHO.
Here’s The Former.
N Here’s The Latter, Arguably The BEST Arranged Hot Song Ever Done IMHO.
Glad to see some old n solid hearts n ears out and about on these pages . . . I was Peninsula from ’63 thru ’88 . . . 10 to 35 . . . I LIVED in The City Rock Halls every weekend from ’68 – ’72.
hey aitch — how ya doing tonight? are you in irene’s path?
sigh – i did it again
i get high
I’m just sitting here enjoying the conversation…..and now I’m laughing out loud.
So, did anyone listen to Fresh Air?
The woman who was the guest talked about a scary new group of Christian Dominists.
I worked with her before her interview. I’m pleased at how it turned out, but one of my suggested examples was cut out of the interview. It was about the destruction of Native American relics by the NAR. The NAR are closely tied to Rick Perry, Bachmann and Palin. You really should listen to the interview, it’s frightening.
Dearly love the New Riders.
hey dearie — how ya doing tonight?
NEVER happened in the time I smoked . . . ’68 thru about 82.
But this was SF, Bay Area . . .
hey spocko — how ya doing tonight? that was a great book salon you hosted!
Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure Tim Cook is a fine executive.
But the mercurial genius & tyrant put this company on the map, lifted it from doom in the late 90′s, and breathed the innovative dominance into the Cupertino campus.
Dude brought low.
I did hear the interview. Those dominionists are damned scary people. But if the rest of us don’t stand up to them, they will roll over us. What in the heck is the matter with the general populace? Sheesh!
Because yer good . . . time to retire the jinx, doncha thank? ;-)
I didn’t develop my green thumb growing basil and garlic. Long ago and far away those times, though.
i figure if i’m greeting someone who has just joined it, there is not curse (and therefore no cursing)
Yes, thought the Koch’s and other banksters were the biggest problems until that nonsense.
Oh yes…and Herbal Essence shampoo
Now, that’s funny. Thanks for the chuckle.
even the cops are cool
hey nonq — how ya doing?
The Other High.
I only noticed it here, on the east coast, in the late 90s.
Post it, diary it, we’ll read it . . .
NOTHING surprises me anymore.
N I would suggest that the masses are becoming a bit more agitated daily . . . ;-)
Yep, THAT WAS waiting to be broked out, huh . . .
and recommend it and tweet it (those of us that use the twitter machine)
Long ago I had some that went two full seasons.
Seeds from bags I had . . . they went all purple, red, yellow n green buds the 2nd season . . .
Telling the truth, you are most welcome.
@Suz, decent for an almost old guy.
Feeling Alright. Not in Irene’s path in Charlotte. The Gulf storms can reach Charlotte.
No Vanilla Fudge fans, hmm?
Hey Suz.. digging through some old songs and watcing Forbidden Planet..
But, to add, I was recently in Montana with family and I mentioned that I was most disappointed in my vote for Obama than any other vote I’d ever made. My peeps looked at me like I was some kind of weirdo…. one said, “Really???” — like I was some kind of crazy woman. Progressive message not getting through. At. All.
Gotta believe the European norm crept into the mafia’s control of profits . . . can’t believe the USERS would buy that shit.
Supply n demand n all that . . . sorry to hear.
How’s everything with CT and his family?
tis good that you are not in the path — do ya expect to be impacted by the periphery of the storm?
a trip down musical memory lane?
little mama is still waiting last i heard
I liked the part about the little hate cells already all around the country, driving wooden stakes in the grounds at “unholy and demonic,” (anybody’s but their beliefs) places of worship and calls for martyrs. Lovely things sprout up in the face of abject poverty and no hope or changey.
No, Higher N Higher.
Elvin Bishop Band with Jo Baker used to just TEAR this one up often back in the daze of SF/Bay Area Rock Halls.
Alas, no Elvin versions with Jo I could find, hence Jackie.
My very good friend opened the Hi-Fi Buys stereo stores in Atlanta and Athens, mid 1970′s. A guy comes in, puts on his audition vinyl of Innagoddadavida, my friend runs out from his office, screams at the guy to leave and never come back.
And Dr. Bronner’s tooth paste and nasal rise.
Silly record man . . .
hahahaha my parents hated that song the moment they first heard it blasting from my hifi in my room. my father used to bellow all 3 names and demand it be turned down immediately
Careful pruning and I ended up with almost little trees in a five gallon pail with a stump as fat as the forearm on a concert pianist. Was fun at the time, I don’t have regrets, moved on though, I guess.
Edit: but reverting to one’s prior education in order to survive in this economic mess, has crossed my mind.
night all – be well
I got nuttin.
I maintain the git strum to open Higher N Higher is one of the most recognized strums in pop music . . . whether it was Wilson’s git player or Elvin himself . . . damn I can’t believe there’s no utube of Elvin n Jo Baker out there doin that tune, we heard it every weekend for a few years . . . live.
i had tix to see him but got busted … and suspended … and grounded… my tix was tore up and tossed in the fireplace
Dearie, this article is really interesting:
Helpless President Lit
Great VF stuff, I loved that band, loved their Eleanor Rigby cover, and Aretha’s, and Ray Charles’s, but best of all The Jazz Crusaders version.
Unlike you I don’t check out the weather news (anymore), so I don’t know, but I can predict that the local news preaches dire fear. There’s probably no milk or toilet paper left in the stores.
I watch golf, the screen constantly scrolls Weather Alert!!!!!! I mean constantly, all afternoon, “severe thunderstorm watch is issued for the following counties” and they list one county somewhere, and it’s only a watch, not even a warning, “seek high ground”, and it blocks the swing and the cup.
Yeah, prunin to keep it low and out of sight on my part . . . same process it seems.
Thigh high at the pulling, 10 inch spears, few leaves, solid bud top to bottom. N did I mention the gorgeous colors of the buds? This woulda been around ’78 or so I guess . . .
Musta been that Bay Area Fog, like in the starter dough for sourdough bread . .
ya gotta just keep checking the utube. its like going to grocery outlet — ya just don’t know what they are gonna have when ya get there and its usually not there the first couple times ya go.
i read that — it was fascinating margot
oh no, I’m sorry to remind you of that. Delete it!
yikes.. that kinda overuse is what gets folks to ignore things they should be paying attention to.
ONE OF MY FAVS during them times . . . they always played somewheres in Berkeley n often John Lee Hooker followed.
Classic tune, great version, nice catch Suz . . .
Omi, yes. I used to play Cold Blood’s first album to death. Lydia singing Let Me Down Easy, repeating and repeating and repeating, and my mother shouting from the kitchen, “Let her down already!”
twas a long long time ago… dayam, more than 40 years ago… and i did get my juvenile record sealed so …. no biggie
Same technique on the basil to get a quarter pound of leaves off each of about a dozen plants in a 100 day +/- growing season.
Yeh, still kills n moves me thru n thru . . . moments of music in our lives . . . like hearing or seeing classical legends, opera legends in the square and the like . . . our generations version.
Sad on all counts.
hey sunny — how ya doing tonight?
Thanks. And thanks for the question.’it was kind of slow. I felt bad that more people didn’t ask questions. Part of it is the gri
Nature of the book.
Thanks, Margot. I just emailed the article to my family in Montana. Don’t know if they’ll comprehend, but the article was nicely and succinctly phrased.
ya just never know how many folks are gonna show up and when — you did an excellent job keeping the conversation going.
Early teen, transistor radio n ear plug, wandering the fog shrouded streets of San Mateo’s east side . . . classic tune from that part of my life . . . had forgotten how heavy that one was on my teen aged angst n ragin hormones . . . girls felt that song too . . . heh, Heaven Scent was the female early teen rage perfume . . . I can still catch it’s wift on the wind as I dream back . . . heady stuff for early teens. VERY intoxicating.
Hey Margot. Didn’t remember Herbal Essence went back that far. In sunnyland it was always breck *g*
Had to laugh. I went back to our little town judge to see if I could get my daughter’s juvenile record expunged. He said, “Gee, I don’t think we keep any records at all.” She went on to be PhiBetaKappa, etc., etc. I hope he was telling the truth!
Ok, great insight from LLN Queenie!
Only I’ll forget about Elvin n Jo the minute I leave this forum.
Lost cells n all that . . . ;-)
I have had terse conversations with friends and they say those same things. Doing the best he can, would you rather have Palin, etc.
God the peninsula loved her and that band!
I know I did!
Makes me crazy! I say, why couldn’t he be even half of what he implied that he was? Is that too much to ask?! I. Think. Not!.
he kept it local and didn’t keep records :) i, on the other hand, was in the juvenile justice system and therefore had to hire a lawyer and petition the juvenile court. even tho i had mine sealed, when i was testing at the pd, i told the guy giving me the lie detector test all about it. didn’t want a false positive about a sealed record or some other physical reaction to disqualify me.
post it notes dood. right next to the monitor
Hope everyone’s watching & listening to one of the best. She’s still active, still Cold, her nose has grown some and drooped, but not her pipes.
Yep, i harvest and top off a few times every year.
Just finished planting some last seeds in our front side which gets more sun this time of year.
Cleaned out n pulled all the basil as it was just not growing no mo.
Got lots in the freeser for winter pesto and I got about a gallon in small tubs frozen of pesto already made . . . can’t live without it!
I read all 390 replies on the NPR website to get an idea how they will respond they I designed our response to their response.
What is good news is 90 percent of the people commenting didn’t like them either, and most of them were Christians. I wanted Rachel to make clear how the old and new groups were. They are going to attack her and they will overreact.
I want to be ready.
Smack, yep, n there it is . .
Ewe GOT Me Hummin . . .
Damn she was great . . .
Vita-Fluff (“The World’s Finest Shampoo”)
Right. True. Real.
I worked in a juvenile court for years, and I do think that expunging records of kids who fly right is just the right thing to do. I loved working with spunky kids. Best job I ever had.
Good, thanks. Got 17 from the library today.
I’m near 60 but in that boat now with my teen, still a chance that it might not get forwarded to court and stay in social services. I sweating it for her and with her. IIRC someone mentioned I should talk to you. Official intake session is next week.
Heaven Scent! My first real girlfriend wore Windsong. I loved
That smell on her.
I keep ‘forgetting’ to buy that DVD, maybe b/c I’ve downloaded a lot of it already. I recorded the Lamb concert off a Wolfgang stream.
ooooooo i’ve had my eye out for it
She was excellent, I thought. Put out the facts as she knew them without being overtly antagonistic in any sense.
I may have gotten it wrong. Prell for sure. And “creme rinse.” A new invention.
british sterling still makes me get flutterbies — that and canoe
I was sweating bullets getting the write up posted. I spent two days in a car driving and didn’t have a lot of time
To read the book and write it up.
To bed. Night!
like my pearl
well fuck… a twofer tonight
Weird basil story: I snipped some top stems, put them in a jar of water with air holes in the lid. A few days later, two of them sprouted what looked like roots (like on scallion bulbs). I transplanted them in potting soil with other herbs, and they’ve been growing tall and flourishing. Ever hear of such a thing?
Two of my three kids “encountered” the juvenile justice system in our small town. The third also encountered them, but she and her boyfriend narked for them, so she got off clean. Crazy. I didn’t mind having the help of the community law officers in corralling my kids when they were running amok. I’m still pleased that I got to raise my kids in a town where everyone knew everyone…..and cared about everyone.
I worked for 8 years at a juvenile court in a county north of us. I was a social worker and adolescent/family counselor on the side for a private hospital. I love kids. Love the spunky ones the best.
Off to dreamland people, it’s been a real slice of nice chatting.
our Gov Brownback is one of those New Apostolic Reformists.
He scares us too
Thanks so much, good night.
Spunky, mine has plenty. Has those good genes from me, I think.
hey ks — how’s ks tonight?
Non…. I’m dwrushing at aol.com if you want to chat. I’m off to Cartagena, Colombia with my twin brother in a couple of days and will be off line for ten days, but I’d be happy to give you some encouragement. I love kids.
I got lost lookin for a QMS song they did on a final album that rocked .
Come Back Baby, off of Gypsy Lights . . .
Couldn’t find it, but I DID find this RARE clip n reality of Dino with the band and John Cippolina in it too . . . . they often didn’t play together at the same time, John left the band once or twice when Dino got out of jail . . . this clip is BEFORE Dino got busted n just before the Fillmore East.Fillmore West album Happy Trails was released, sans Dino.
This clip don’t suck for the band’s heart, and intensity at the time.
Hey, Mona. I’m Tellin Ya, This Is A 3 Day Diary If I Did QMS.
Wish I could FIND that Come Back Baby, Dino at his best and the band just cooks one last time on it. LeSigh.
Did you ‘wear’ White Shoulders or Most Precious?
Caught that, I may take you up on it. Thanks again.
LOL! Mine’s full up with stuff I have to remove cuz it was insane to write down in the first place!
Glad to hear I’m not the only cheetoh stained finger person with this issue . . lol
i wore vanilla extract at the time
Both of them send me into swoons still (n yep, there are heartaches involved in them for me) . . . I try not to let my old lady know of this or see it when it happens . . . -)
Memories are grand, reality is something I treasure for 27 years now.
Without scent or song . . . ;-)
Check out Dime A Dozen! All live shows . . .
Spin it like Rove would, it’s a WINNER!
tis about time for me to turn back into a pumpkin pups. thanks for letting me hang out with ya tonight and for all the trips down my musical memory lane ya shared.
Never even thought of this . . . were the top stems flowering?
What a great way to create new starters! Less seed cost!
Dang, it’s midnite 30 . . . I gotta go also . . . great mid week LLN Suz, thanks to you and Pups one n all.
Smart, very smart. That other stuff, all of it, they use dogs to ‘test’ it, observe the snout spasms and look for unsheathed pink down below.
Bwhahaha…! Just not your nite, eh…? ;-)
See? Proof-positive it was The World’s Finest Shampoo, says so right on the jar. (I got the plastic bottles.)
Margot! Probably I’m significantly older than you are…. gulp.
Sweet dreams, Suz and all…!
No, and they hadn’t grown nib stems ready to flower up there either. But I haven’t been able to do it again. Maybe I did it at the full moon or at the new moon. I googled for it, but found nothing about it. I didn’t dream it either — two ‘new’ plants are proof.
I often cut basil and stick it in a water glass. Sometimes sprouts roots, but I’ve never tried planting them.
This might be a good year to try. I have two different big leafed round bushes in pots. No idea their varieties. Bought them as seedlings at the FM. Flashy and pungent.
nite all. Thanks for the good company.
My sister lives a few miles south, 3-4 degrees warmer (hotter), grows her basil in-ground but uses bought soil since our earth is red clay, her leaves are the size of your hand, my leaves (above ground pots) are maybe the breadth of two fingers, though when they’re young the leaves are broader. Three different plants, one sprouted in Georgia I raised indoors until summer, one was hydroponic sold to be eaten, and the biggest was already lush in a large pot along with oregano, small tomatoes (all shapes) and marigolds. Wrens built a nest in the large pot but abandoned it when I looked in at the wrong time. The other day a hummingbird checked out the marigolds, snubbed them (they’re tiny) and flew off.
