How many of you old timers remember when Firedoglake’s Christy and Jane and Marcy and Pachacutec led the coverage of the outing of Valerie Plame and the Scooter Libby saga? Or when Jane and Connecticut Bob’s kick ass GOTV efforts denied Rape Gurney Joe Leiberman the Democratic nomination in his re-election bid? How about when FDL beat out all the big media outlets correctly surmising that the BP oil disaster was the result of a faulty cement job?
Or how about our “burn your ARRP card” campaign where we shamed ARRP into reversing its decision to allow Social Security to be gutted? Or the successful Audit the Fed campaign to find out where the trillions went?
Here’s the thing, a place like FDL is more than just a place to read the latest news online. It’s a place to read the news the MSM doesn’t seem to realize needs coverage. It’s the place to get analysis from a group of subject matter experts, not journalism majors who never took an economics class, or went to law school, or medical school and may not understand the facts they have gathered.
FDL is a place where you can connect with and “talk” with people like you who want to know more than the canned pablum fed to you by Big Media and where your own thoughts, analysis and opinions are heard and can spark action. It’s a big noisy, sometimes rambunctious family we have going here, but we’re all together in our search for truth and in our desire to effect positive change. BTW, we do effect change by direct action, whether it was the famous delivery of the “rubber stamps” to Congress, the first of its kind live blogging of the Libby Trial or the burning of the AARP cards, FDL has moved the discussion time and time again. The latest direct action opposing the Canadian Tar Sands pipeline found Jane and Scarecrow, not to mention FDL fan fave Lt. Dan Choi, doing a little time in a DC lockup.
Hey, we even have the attention of the Obama campaign. If you only click on one link, make it this one, or the Libby trial one, I can’t decide which is my favorite.
Kick ass activism and fearless advocacy can only happen if we are free of corporate sponsorship, that’s where you come in. We are member supported. Your decision to become a member means that we can keep the servers humming so we can keep bringing you the content you want, the platform you need to get your own ideas out and the direct actions that move the public debate. So, I’m asking you to join now at any level you can, make your voice count.
Now, in the comments, I would like to see you list your favorite FDL “win”.
