Sasha le Fleur (Sheena Easton) — Count Me Out, from the movie All Dogs Go To Heaven 2.
What’s on your mind?
newton! how’s the bay area tonight?
*heh* Strut it Girlfriend…! ;-)
Mostly pleasant, thank you. If I can manage to keep my eye off of the news, even better.
How’s it up there?
What’s on my mind: as a long-time left supporter of the Democrats who ultimately donated to and caucused for Obama, before voting for him, I hope to see the collapse of the Democratic Party as an entity with any hope of political majority in the national government ever again.
I’d also frankly like to see the wealthiest 5% of this society sucked into an economic black hole wherein they finally have to eat at the same table as everyone else. The US has always been since inception or before a capitalist enterprise intended to prioritize the prerogatives and entitlements of the wealthiest few while expending the working majority as currency. However, the last 30 years of plutocrat-doting policy and society has gone too far and I am sick of watching 19-year-old debutantes shop at Tiffany’s while middle-aged professionals struggle to maintain a positive savings account while doing the work that makes the rich so fat and happy.
Finally, I’d really like to see a massive bonfire of the vanities in which all of the “elite” of the American media class – Krugman’s “Very Serious People” – are publicly humiliated as naked spin meisters making careers out of spreading group think, disinformation, and egregious propaganda.
It would be nice to see all that begin to happen, yes it would.
OK, back to dinner.
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight? strut dood
overcast again. supposed to have a sunny weekend tho :)
hey sixgill — what’s for dinner?
A spectacularly gorgeous pink sky behind Mauna Kea, but had showers, on and off, all day long, tho…!

Chris! Do you need the name of a good handyman/heating and cooling guy? I just got my leaky window a/c fixed, all dried, window repaired and everything for $30 and the guy is going to college in Cleveland.
hey ks — how ya doing tonight?
As two non child bearing folks, this stuff amazes me.
Man I love me some kids as long as they go away with their parents.
I used to coach kids of all ages in BASEBALL n bowling.
Bowling came later, n I learnt to hate it all.
Parents n kids alike . . . . horrid.
Why yes I do … send his contact to me on FB, please.
It was a lovely day. I met this young man who turned a really serious problem—water leaking into the walls–into a 15 minute no problem fix, and we talked about kinfolk who’d been in the US since way before the Civil War.
Egad, haven’t you had my Chocolate Martini ? I’ve been serving them every year here at Christmas or when firepups ask for it … absolutely scrumptious !
i’m so glad he was able to fix it and for such a reasonable price!
Really nice day here in Seattle. Fun video, too.
K’thug posted a nice video on his blog.
it’s been a bob dylan kinda night for me
he usually turns me around some kinda different way like medicine :)
No! I have NOT had your chocolate martini. Please give the recipe. OTOH I do have chocolate martini scented candles, but I’m not drinking them.
hey raven — how ya doing tonight? glad ya liked it
johnny’s in the basement
Good evening, Suz. Hey, Larue, CT, Christine and all. It’s a grand evening, quiet, clear and warm. Crickets are in fine tonight.
Life’s pretty good. Of course, half my income is from the Federal “discretionary” budget, so who knows? Nonetheless, we’re planning a short vacation at the World SF convention in (gack!) Reno, and then I’m going to be in Berkeley, working for a week.
How ’bout with you?
hey past – how was your day?
nothing that exciting. just kicking back, enjoying the peaceful retreat on the bay even tho the sun refuses to shine for more than 4 days in a row…
that’s “in fine tune tonight” (Edit)
hahaha Suz, you don’t know how true that is,
this is where I ended up:
This Dream Of You, from the recent one
Hey! Old times my friends.
tis what immediately came to mind when ya mentioned dylan and medicine….
As PBO said to Wall Street, your wish is my command …
My Fave Chocolate Martini Recipe
1 oz Absolut Vanilla Vodka [almost frozen]
1 oz Creme de Cacao
1 oz Bailey’s
1 tablespoon chocolate syrup
6 ice cubes
Chocolate Flakes & extra Creme de Cacao for the Rim.
Take a cocktail shaker and pour the Vodka, Creme de Cacao, Bailey’s Irish Creme and Chocolate syrup.
Add the ice cubes.
Rub rim of glass with Creme de Cacao then dip into a shallow dish of Chocolate Flakes.
Strain and pour contents of cocktail shaker into a martini glass. If your guests are really special, melt some chocolate and make swirly designs inside the martini glasses, then put them in the Freezer for half an hour before serving.
Hasn’t Hugh’s Obummer List surpassed Shrub’s already…? And, in a quarter of the time too…? *gah*
Hey Pups, Suz . . . .
Let It Flow!
Wow! That is a dream waiting to happen! Many thanks Petro! I have a huge bottle of Absolut that I bought two summers ago. I think that I’ll drop a vanilla bean in it.
I feel I got a couple in me already!
Wouldn’t surprise me in the least …
*heh* Bailey’s makes any cocktail delish…! ;-)
to petro! *clink clink*
Virtual Drinks have no ill effects … *g*
*cough* … Bailey’s will be plentiful in Friday morning Coffees, around the World.
YUM. I’ve never had a martini; that sounds like a wonderful way to start.
Chin ! Chin !
I highly recommend Green Apple Martini as well …
Pretty good day today, considering. How was yours, do anything fun?

How’s Cleveland weather been lately, still unbearably hot/humid?
i did absolutely nothing, magnificently i might add :)
I salute you, my dear !
We’e been away to PA for a week, but basically we’ve had the window air conditioner on for three weeks. 90′s for the most part, but with storms that bring temps crashing down to 70′s for a bit. I love a table with an umbrella!
With no sun in sight, either…! Truly, sickening in how Nero fiddles, while Rome burns…! Btw, literally, as Italy’s woes are fueling the Global selloff…! 8-(
Spain is in deeper doodoo that Italy …
I know. What will it be tomorrow?
doing a drive-by but caught the early comments about food. FOOD!! I just got done hickory smoking homegrown beets and red potatoes. Made pickled beets w/organic apple cider vinegar and a kickass potato salad that’s resting until tomorrow. With homegrown eggs, onions, herbs.
I’m having fun learning how to use the smoker I got as a birthday gift, which kind of scared me at first. You could have this thing on a condo balcony and your neighbors wouldn’t mind. I might be in love.
I heart summer!
boulevard is burning
my AC got fixed yesterday! that’s a major plus
and then today temps dropped back to tolerable so I worked all day painting house. After an honest day I can relax in AC tonight and be a little footloose
9 to 5 Just ain’t cutting it these days…! 8-(
hey openhope — wow that sounds wonderful! i had roasted beets tonight with a roast chicken. why only a driveby?
Da Europeens will have to commit Billions, which will prolly devalue the Euro and Japan, China and the U.S. will prolly rush to devalue their currencies … don’t know enough about this but it’s going to be a double dip, just as Mr. Roubini said.
India’s stock market is taking it on the Chin as we speak …
Lemme Try This Again.
I have a German potato salad recipe that bathes boiled potatoes in chicken broth, sliced onions and vinegar. It is to die for, and very old.
they were such a great group dood
Cuz I just got done with Food. Missing the jist of the comments. Poured a very nice beer made by our son and calling it an end to chores. :)
Good point, Right now, the EU is saying that Italy’s TBTF, but, Spain is not…! I’m sure the Spaniards just love that bit of news…!
Ok, time is tickin . . . best to all n hug’em close.
Nite awl . . .
yeah, I don’t wanna turn the bbc on tonight…
I know I’ll get all the npr in the mornin
al jazeera financial reports would be good giving the lead on europe
sounds like a wonderful way to end a very productive day openhope. how’s his beermaking?
I have the most incredible chicken stock reduction from our meat bird processing. We should do a commenter recipe Sunday Food thing some day.
One thing I miss about living back east are the warm summer nights with the fireflies; also the warm rain.
congrats on snagging the happy lucky 100 past!!!
I’m gonna have to look up a recipe for German potato salad. A little bacon, little vinegar, very good.
Spain led the EU in growth, thanks to huge Gov’t incentives. I think that Spain is also TBTF and they all know it …
India’s main index is down 450 points today and down 2800+, since the start of 2011.
Wanna know what their real inflation rate is ? *g*
It’s amazing how the Israelis are turning out in force…! Can you believe this… Parents and children protest in ‘stroller marches’ across Israel… And to think I’ve got a brand new one that I’m just itching to utilize…! ;-)
His beer making is a thing of interest to his mother, who used to have a career in food and menu writing. He understands that flavors need layers and need to react on the tongue in all the flavor bud centers.
I would bow down but he won’t let me play with his beer making kit,…so, I have issues. Oh, the pain of mother feels………!
AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Hey there Grams, how you hangin out here watchin all the new monied hucksters and “players” perched on their 10th floor window ledges waitin for some fairie dust and a bump in the Euro to keep ‘em from jumpin’ after the openin’ in the mornin’? Like I told the Jamaican captain of our charter two years ago after he had put us on a Blue Marlin, he would hafta wait until enough Americans lost their retirements before there would be an economic turnaround and Americans demanded some controlls on the banksters. He said that might happen but by then the Jamaicans would be existin on callaloo and beans and the occasional Jackfish that our tuna factory ships had missed…I’m afraid he was right except now we will ALL be eatin rice and tuna guts from a can.
If any of you Firepups need a cheap vacation you ken come join us here in the heartland of democracy and I’ll hook you up with some phone lists or a map of turf to canvas…you can stay at our house and on Tuesday night we’ll party like it’s 1932.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, IT’S A REPUBLIC IF YOU CAN KEEP IT!!!
OMG … I had Russian Potato Salad a few weeks ago. It was incredible !
gonna be a lotta sorrow tomorrow
does he at least share?
Yeah, my Mother’s recipe is bacon, onion, sugar, vinegar. The smoked potatoes are a game changer.
hey norske — how ya doing tonight, comrade?
what made it ‘russian’?
Bibi laughed at the Arab Spring …
Let’s see that an American Spring happens very quickly, while there’s still time
I love fireflies, and the sweet smells of the night.
Where’s the nearest AFB, Norske…? I can take a hop…!
Oh man…you need to write a potato salad diary. Please!
Woo-Hoo !! What do I win, maybe some shares in an indexed mutual fund? Lucky me!! Oh, wait.
mebbe I should get out more, but homemade potato salad sounds so good right now!
and Larue, I might be too young
but for me, that It’s a Beautiful Day song only registers as comedy, so I definietely got a positive reaction here but not the one intended?
*cough* … the Vodka dressing ?!! *g*
It had peas, carrots, red potatoes, Dill Pickle, Eggs and a creamy, vinegar dressing … I enjoyed every bit.
*droolin* dayam that sounds yummy!
Yes, the warm, humid summer nights of Ohio. Fond memories catching fireflies in a jar.
*heh* Vodka is potato squeezins to begin with…! ;-)
Good song. LLN is where the party is tonight!! Might as well, huh?
Oh,oh,oh, dear kspopulist, well met. I have been struggling to find the incredible quote you presented a month or more ago. Why I didn’t bookmark it at the time has been something I kick myself for. I was looking for you. in a non-stalker way.
“Tangle Of Lines” was it Thomas Pynchon? Because that wasn’t right.
We named our civil action gig SOS Save OurSelves. Which was WAY easier than being in love with the Tangle Of Lines thought and trying to convey it.
Hope all is well.
707 ! … so it’s all good ! *g*
don’t forget to buy a lotto tix too
The rest of the BBQ was equally amazing … Korean, Indian and Thai recipes, washed down with really fine Beer.
BTW, if any of you are in Toronto, this weekend is the *HUGE* Greek Festival.
oh wow! good to see you too.
ok, it’s a chapter heading in Thomas Pynchon’s book Mason&Dixon a fictional retelling of the professional pairing of these two British surveyors, famed for the survey line whose name was given to the borders it created a hundred years later. It’s not about slavery, it’s about these surveyors. Both before they even meet but their adventures at sea and in South Africa and so on well before the work they do for the British Royal Astronomical Society but in America. Lovely book.
the quote should be in the archive, I’ll do a search
They’re so proud of their Food up here that if for any reason, you’re not happy with your meal, they won’t make you pay for it … and the Ouzo !
dang…. wish i wasn’t 2,800 miles away dood
evening, Suzzz …
hey ppd — how ya doing tonight?
It was Thomas Pynchon. For some reason I got it in my head that it was a quote from 1637ish and couldn’t find a clue. Every Google came up Pynchon.
anyway, I was too in love with the graphics of Tangle Of Lines. Had to let it go for the common understanding.
Save OurSelves works.
Me too … *g*
August is filled with all kinds of ethnic festivals. And they’re really happy to see other cultures out enjoying themselves.
Well, I wish you all fun filled dreams, which become realized tomorrow … G’nite all !
Big Time Operator
I am having jealous Food feelings. I love exploring food and the people who cook it. It is the low energy hum that vibrates through all our existence. [she said wisely] :]
crash boom bang
Now, the Rev’d Wicks Cherrycoke that this quote is attributed to
is a central character in Pynchon’s book. He is a young man that works with Messers Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon on the mission into the Interior and later is effectively one of the narrators of the story of year’s past, sitting around the fireplace as an old man.
So, as a chapter heading (# 35) the quote acts as a signpost, and is attributed to Mr Cherrycoke who acts as a kind of community doctor and storyteller and affable shiester sent round to make sure folks stayed in their place. So,
quoted as from The Rev’d Wicks Cherrycoke, Christ and History
and the Christ & History part is just some fictional title of a book that the fictional character supposedly wrote. More of Pynchon’s tricks.
here’s the one, but there’s always more…
“Facts are but the Play-things of lawyers, _ Tops and Hoops, for-ever a-spin…. Alas, the Historian may indulge no such idle Rotating. History is not Chronology, for that is left to the lawyers, – nor is it Remembrance, for Remembrance belongs to the People. History can as little pretend to the Veracity of the one, as claim the Power of the other, – her Practitioners, to survive, must soon learn the arts of the quidnunc, spy, and Taproom Wit, – that there may ever continue more than one life-line back into a Past we risk, each day, losing our forebears in forever, – not a Chain of single Links, for one broken Link could lose us All, – rather, a great disorderly Tangle of Lines, long and short, weak and strong, vanishing into the Mnemonick Deep, with only their Destination in common.”
Save OurSelves is exactly what we gotta do!
sorry for turning into a pumpkin early tonight pups but i’ve got the yawns already. thanks for letting me hang out with ya
“So Jacbites must speak in children’s rhymes,
As Preachers do in Parables, sometimes.”

With everything falling apart around the world, where is King Chaos going to borrow money? Looks like the Super Congress’s job just became easier. 100% of 0 is hopefully 0 in their world.
Thank you so much. I bookmarked it.
Sweet Dreams, Suz…!
keep us up to date on your program Save OurSelves, openhope!
watching Tavis & answering email — how are you?
Okay, since you asked…………………………..
SOS Save Ourselves
Saturday, Sept.24th 1-4pm
We are a non-affiliated,independent group of citizens appalled by the direction our state is taking. We’ve decided to gather at Everytown Park on Sept.24. It’s time to share information and hold a community open-mic discussion on several serious issues effecting our community.
*social program cuts being implemented in our community due to state and federal budget constraints
*Union-busting legislation and workers’ rights. Let’s look at the people we pay to represent our community’s best interests
*meet the Koch brothers – this research job was just made so much easier by the people at alecexposed.com. It’s a tangled web of small groups contributing to the public servants[congress, judges] we choose to hire. It would look best presented as a mural?……or something
our prisons and the War On Drugs
*corporations operating in our state that avoid paying their fair share of taxes. Let’s look at the yearly check from We-the-Taxpayers they receive as a bonus. This would work well as a bake sale concept. Bake Sale From Hell. We pay you to buy our Super Corporation cookies, a rich buttery confection with quality chocolate and nuts, The Taxpayer cookie would have no dairy, no nuts, imitation chocolate and cost much more. Eye-popping charts would also work well.
*the War On Women
It’s a high energy week to hold an event. We have International Day Of Peace on Sept.21, the Autumn Equinox on Sept. 23, Save Ourselves on Sept.24 and the Oyster Run on Sept 25.
The Oyster Run is 15,000 bikers on Social Security and Medicare, wearing leathers and grooving. Also.
sounds good, OH — bring your rotten tomatoes for the Koch heads
Sweet dreams, all. I’ve got to get the spearmint leaves into the dehydrator. I’m not even sure I like spearmint tis much!
Actually, I’m planning a soiree style event. I need a break from fist raising anger. I’m thinking the Kochs influence should be presented like prayer flags, only different. They have so many off shoots. I’ve got a list of at least 20 “community organization,non-profits” affiliated with Americans For Prosperity operating, donating, manipulating the message in my state.
It isn’t pretty. But, finding a major infestation of roaches in your home never is.
Can ya spare a minute and post a diary on it?
Sincerely and with good intent,
I say No because in the process of creativity there’s no room for massive amounts of Group Thought. This is the creation of a local event,by ordinary citizens, on the spur of the moment. So ,it requires enormous shitloads of extracting community input and MY Schmoozing the shit out of people. That’s how we organizers work a “clipboard”. I WILL HAVE BEAUTIFUL FLOWERS. #1 on the list. That’s pre-dumpster diving the Florists who support your event. With a hand delivered explanation of the event and asking they save their discard flowers for us. [ this doesn't work well on Womens' Rights" issues. But kicks ass on One Nation, or Community Projects that are Feel Good] And home gardeners will bring bouguets.
Like the idea for *Bake Sale From Hell.Understanding our Tax Structure”. We’re going to need a Sugar Sponsor to pull that one off. And a Health Certified kitchen to make them.
Meet the Koch brothers: Let’s do it as individual flags strung along a frame. Individual people can create and contribute. But, you need a bitch with a clipboard to pull it off ! “Like herding cats, etc……”.
There’s got to be another way to promote our communities , to present information, to talk to each other.
If not me, who?
If not now, when?
If not cliches, wtf?
I am. This is my small mark in the sand.
