Eric Clapton–Knocking on Heaven’s Door
I feel like I’ve been knocking on Heaven’s door all this week…!
What’s on your mind tonite…?
Eric Clapton — so great. Thanks CT!
Aloha, Chris…! How’s the lakefront tonite…?
Hey, CT. Knocking on heaven’s door, indeed! Any more news of the Perseids?
Dear Mr. Fantasy…
Aloha! hey, i never knew this–and at my age– what time is it there? what’s the difference between there and here–EST?
Hey CT! I’m in hot but lovely southeastern PA tonight, just north of Philadelphia. 91 today, but we were cool under the porch with the Sunday papers and glasses of iced tea. Lovely.
Aloha, Dearie…! I saw quite a few more last nite…! ;-)
Aug. 12th is the nite of peak activity…!
Hello CE! I’ve been meaning to stay up this late ever since I came across your reference to University Circle some months ago.
Aloha, BFL…! It’s great to see ya at LLN…!
It’s 7pm local time…! ;-)
Oh, good. I’ll be in the Big Sky for the best of it. I look forward to that.
University Circle is the happening place this summer. Where are you?
good to be here. always. good to see you running the show. oops. was that a backhanded dis of suze? didn’t mean that at all. just meant that when i’m here you’re not usually at the top. never before i don’t think. suze is cool.
Aloha, siosal…! Always a pleasure to see new faces…!
Evening all. CTuttle, I hope your star gazing was spectacular.
Hard to top Suz, I enjoy giving her some time off from being the hostess with the mostest…! ;-)
hey dearie. love that name. had an aunt who called everybody “dearie” and i started to use it alot when i would be condescending to a woman. “Look, dearie….” a guy would be “Look, asshole…” or something like that. should be the same for both, i guess. asshole. not dearie.
Hey openhope and all!
Aloha, openhope…! How’s the Sound tonite…?
that she is.
Very cool. Welcome siosal.
Hey siosal, still here?
I’m in Citrus Heights, a suburb of Sacramento, but back in the day I was raised in Clevelad Heights, back when the street cars went up and down Cedar hill.
Our family spent many Sundays wandering through the Cleveland Museum of Art.
I’ sure you’re doing your part to improve on what was a wonderus experience for us.
I had a great-aunt Dearie. When my own name was already taken on FDL, I chose that. I think of myself as reasonably creative, but making up a ‘stage’ name for the internet was just too too.
Wow! What street did you live on in Cleveland Heights? What was it like to wander in the Cleveland Museum of Art then? Please, do tell!!
do you remember that commercial for Life cereal? It’s not “too.”
Our only hope of stopping this trainwreck is in the Senate tomorrow…
We’re in such dire shape that we need an ideological gooper to go berserk and throw a wrench in the deal, because we know our guys’ll be busy sucking their thumbs between sobs…
I don’t …. and I’m someone who remembers most commercials.
The Thrill Is Gone…
Now, there’s an image. I never know whether to visualize a bunch of chickens with their heads cut off or a bunch of thugs licking their fingers and counting their money.
Aloha, radio…! I think if it’s going to be stopped, it’ll be in the House…!
Hey Tut, after the way Obama has bent us over and assraped us, I’d say “Meet Your New Landlord” is an appropriate tune.
This weather is a bitch. I’m growing “long stemmed broccoli” due to lack of full sun days, and beans, squash and sun loving vegs are suffering under the cool nights. My garden is in suspended animation, not growing, not not-growing. We can count on potatoes and onions, everything else is up to nature.
Then I remember our Firedogs suffering under the heat.
Our fishermen friends in N. Alaska had an ugly stretch of 52 days of rain and wind during the salmon run.
So, i think, fuck vegetables, at least we don’t have the winds. Or heat.
Damn right about that, for some time. But, I still have to profess my love of the Commitments. Again.
Aloha, TG…! Sounds about right…!
Meet Your New Landlord
Berkshire, just east of Washington Blvd. Coventry Library was a familial haunt. The art museum was simply wonderful. Of course the medieval armourment was a draw (of course later I learned that some displays were not authentic and the museum deacessed them, to the betterment of buying experts who knew what Cleveland really had). The etchings and other black on paper work downstairs was endlessly entriguing. The miniature portraits, just off from the Rubins(was thatevery adjudicated to be a true Rubins?) were nice.
When I took my wife, atillathehen to you, there we fell in love with the early Italian ceramics. They had so much color back then!
The only way we’re going to stop this train wreck in the Senate tomorrow is to have local Firedogs take one for the team and run naked through the Senate chambers.
maybe it was only saturday mornings during cartoons
Hi CT! If I read foxnews correctly earlier, Boehner had no opposition within his caucus tonight when he briefed them on ‘the deal.’
I do not consider myself Ass Raped, sir.
Betrayed, yes. Betrayed by a small group of American citizens in the ultimate public salary job with the ultimate public financed perks, oh,yeah!!!!!!!!!!
Well, we are on Hampshire, and the Coventry Library is our home library. The Armor Court is beautiful, and the pieces and parts have been fixed and reunited with scholarly authentication. The building campaign continues and we can’t wait for its completion.
I believe your statement is a mere matter of semantics. One person’s “betrayal” is another’s “assraping.”
I fall in the latter category. Meet Your New Landlord.
Very cool.
know what? maybe it wasn’t Life. never mind
I believe, sir, that you have never been raped.
Or This One.
Shake Your Money Maker…
I’m afraid you’re right, openhope – our weakling Dems are about to ‘spend the rent’ to buy a third-tranche stock passel of sub-prime mortgages that Boehner says we need, and Obama rates as AAA.
sounds fun but i’m not going to be anywhere near DC.
Last time we were there, the work was ongoing. The Cleveland museum spoiled me for others. The San Francisco Musei]um (the old one) was pathetic by comparison: so little was on view. Cleveland,s museum, just like its public library was really open to the public, a them that I think Carnegie was responsible for.
Aloha, Larue…! How’re you and the missus doing…?
Every Day I Kick Myself…
Certainly for voting for Obama…
And I love them. Sigh, I’m just in love with history and art. But also gardens and plants.
Oh please, surely you can understand the figurative…
Best Version Ever, Screaming Bloomfield And Bishop
You got some FINE picks tonite hoss . .
Lo Ha Indeed!
Waaaaaaaaaay past my bedtime peoples. gonna hit the hay. wish i could stay up a litle longer with you guys.
Cleveland Public Library is one of the finest public libraries in the United States. I don’t work there, but I know that it is fabulous. The White Collection is legendary.
Breezes past 3 days, temps lo 90′s into hi 80′s this week upcoming.
Unheard of, lovin it, coolest summer since ’88, and tops last year which topped the year before, three in a row cool, sweet . . . best to yo and yers, too!
Pleasant dreams, BFL…!
Webb Wilder is just phreaking great . . . used to hear a lot of him when KPIG streamed for free . . . I’ve got some of his live stuff (90′s) from DimeADozen . . . . *G*
Goodnight all, it’s been hard typing in the dark, but I just wanted to get in touch with you CE.
I wish I could, I love DC. We have 2 free tickets to anywhere in the US as a last glow of our former lives, before the unemployment.
I would SO go to DC and stand in front of my White House, and get arrested. If I could.
Hey Larue! We never seem to meet nowadays…
Hey, don’t type in the dark, and see me often here.
good evening to all.
thanks, man. great vid up top and dear mr. fantasy, too!
Hello selise!
I’m so bummed.
you’re droppin’ in and i’m leavin. hello and good-night.
Wow…! Aloha, selise…! Always a pleasure to see ya, M’dear…!
Please stay in touch here at FDL.
Sweet dreams, siosal…! Don’t be a stranger, I would love to see ya more often at LLN…! *g*
No, there is no figurative if you choose your words carelessly. I know it’s semantics. I know semantics are part of the problem. I know ass rape is a term for being uncomfortably marginalized in a declining Capitalist system.
However…….
Oh, never mind. I’m having a pissed off mood.
Sorry
Hey!
We should do lunch! lol
*G*
OMG that would be so fabulous!
A great little jam fest…
A co-worker turned me on to him about 12 years ago. Never seen him live but I want to. He never crosses the Rockies.
We’re all pissed for sure, open…! 8-(
I have an older brother who turned me on to Clapton and the Cream. Wonderful.
me too (bummed). can’t sleep.
sleep well, BFL.
I saw the first half of a documentary The Art Of The Steal about the Alfred Barnes collection. I was in awe of Alfred Barnes and his accomplishments/fierce devotion to Art and his fierce opposition to Art As Commerce. I had one of those “oh, if I could have been there, with him and his believers”. Haven’t had that daydream in a long while. It was good.
howdy. and back at you.
The documentary also put the Annenberg robber baron clan into perspective. Right wing fascist.
Thanks. Sorry to go off.
The Barnes Collection controversy is long and huge. And I’ve never seen it! One had to have an appointment to see the art. It has been in the courts for years, and is due to move to Philadelphia soon, I think.
Good evening everyone. Been occupied with other things today, purposely, to keep from thinking about the Senate and House bastards. Overload from all the goings-on this past week.
While my guitar gently weeps…
Hiya, CT. Down in Seattle for my mom’s 93rd. Dinner at by bro’s house this evening with all these grown-up kids from my mom’s kids’ families. Amazing. She was very happy, talking about how Calvin Coolidge was better than Obama when it came to dealing with congress.
Me too!
Overload from all the goings-on this past week…
Aloha, past…! Couldn’t agree more…!
Love this…
Aloha, ET…! How cool…! Give her my best regards…! Thanks for the great Salon today, I only regret being groggy(still) from being up all nite, last nite…!
evening, CT – firegods
Hey, ET, great book salon. Sorry you got scolded, but there’s been a whole lot of scolding going on around here lately. I guess folks are skitterish. But I thought your intro was interesting and provocative and the discussion was lively. Thanks for your good work on that.
You can only take so much. Speaking of the Perseids, looking forward to it,if I drive about 15 miles south, I can get to where the city lights don’t interfere so much with the view. Hoping for some clear nights.
Aloha, PPD…!
I’m done, long few days . . . sandman got me.
Best to all and hug ‘em close . . . it ain’t over as long as we’re breathing.
Hiya, CE
Best of luck on the clear skies…!
Hiya PPDCUS — how is life?
‘Nite Larue.
Yes, and that’s a travesty! He bought that art as teaching art and built a 10 acre compound to do Art. He was a friend of the artists, taught himself to see art as every artist must do, understood that all art talks to each other in the hanging and displaying, bought the mosr incredible pieces from the artists he hosted at his school. It was the early 1920′s art explosion. All the modern greats alive and well.
And he was a bad tempered moralist who fought off the hoards of MoneyArt scum. If I could pick a period in time to go into….
He is my new hero. I couldn’t bear to watch the last half of the documentary, where Annenborg wins.
I think Jane is exhausted from trying so hard to get some sanity going in the craziness in the national legislature on $$$ vs time. Can’t blame her for a bit of venting. And she’s probably right about J Street being more of a player than I could possibly know, living as I do in fucking Wasilla Alaska.
Hi, Christine. As I remember from my youth, the Coventry area was where the hippies hung out.
Hey,you!
Congrats, Chris, on the century mark…! ;-)
G’nite Larue.
Hey pastfedup,
Haight-Ashbury of Cleveland…
You are a gracious and thoughtful person. But, in truth, there has been a great deal of scolding going on…..and not just from Jane. Hope once the crash is in that we’ll all settle down…..and move along to whatever we have to do to make some necessary changes….if we can.
Oh my!
busy work day, but otherwise, pretty good
Everything well out east tonight?
Just like Jane, I’m in this for the long haul because we love this country and planet dearly.
hiya, OH
Amen. I wish we could count on even one person in the government to be honest. It’s pretty grim right now. We do what we can.
Yes, very well in southeast PA. Bed now, and best wishes!
Yes indeed. It had a reputation as a place where maryjane and LSD was plentiful; as well as some record stores that specialized in what was called “underground’ music in the late 60′s and early 70′s.
Sweet dreams, Chris…!
These are interesting times we live in. There’s been so much bullshit strewn around that we’ve gotten used to hollering into it, in my opinion.
I’m into SOS Save OurSelves
That will require cutting slack, being grateful for the wonderful voices, pulling up the rein sharp sometimes, carrots, whips, life.
night, CE
Yep. It’s interesting. My 93 year old dad lived through the depression, but is pretty comfortable in his old age. I had an easier childhood but worry that my own old age will be less comfortable. We have very interesting conversations, I assure you. And he is a real advocate for cutting Social Security and Medicare….of course, he doesn’t depend on either and cannot imagine that I might.
My kids and my brother’s kids were rapt, as they listened to their grandma explain that this is more serious than the great depression or the famine in Ireland that brought her dad’s dad’s family over here. These kids are far, far better off than 90% of the planet’s kids (one niece is going into the 2nd year of a Fulbright in Indonesia), but they are all wondering WTF – are there any viable, long-term solutions?
I hope they’re able to come up with better stuff than we have.
I’m totally wiped out folks, I shall bid ya’ll a fond adieu for the evening…! Mahalo for the great discourse tonite…! Aloha Oe…! *g*
Good nite, CT. Later.
Yow, we’ve got very different aging parents. Mine are Socialist and feel so bad for being a burden in their old age. They regret taking time away from us, to care for them.
My dad is an anomaly. He helped break the color line in Houston in the late 50′s where he worked…..got rid of the ‘colored’ water fountains, and ‘colored’ restrooms, and such. He appreciates the help I’m giving him in his new living environment at a lovely “home.” (I invited him to live with me — he laughed. I was not insulted.) But he is a Republican. And …. well, he’s my dad. I’m not going to diagnose him “)
G’nite Open. Maybe we’ll get a chance to chat again.
I hope they are able to live in the moment and grab their life. Not the future projection of their life.
I tell the youngbloods,”live in the present. do what you want to do now, go where you want to go while you can”. Spend the money on life, college is a scam that will suck your soul. Unless it offers something you really want. If you have a true goal that only degrees will get you to.., It’s a fucking crapshoot, but, life’s a fucking crapshoot.”
Hug him while you can. I’m learning to tell my 50′s era dad, “I love you” on the way out the door. Not something he can deal with face-to-face. It’s very sweet. And sweet is good.
night all, be well
