Hi Suzanne. Are you Suzanne (removed by post author)?
Pigs, Suz!
SUZANNE!!!
Hey, I read you were a cop.
Ever frisk anyone???
Just kidding.
c a n n o n b a l l
kur-splaaaaaaaaaash
hey pups, its been one hella day. what did i miss while entertaining my aunt and uncle today?
hey vmt — i try to keep my last name offline but yeaffirm.
how ya doing tonight?
Hope I’m not crossing the line by asking for your last name. It’s just that some Suzanne — from FDL has been sending me e-mails and I was wondering if that was you.
hey newton — how’s the bay area tonight?
hey tam — how was your day?
I’m doing great. Sorry about that. I’m clueless tonight. I should have just responded to the e-mail.
yeaffirm… only one suzanne at fdl
End to my ‘interesting’ week was getting EPU’d downthread. But that’s okay; Id rather play in the pond up here anyhow.
Did you take your relatives over to see babybabygirl?
It is very pleasant.
This is almost the end of a pretty long, hot week. I didn’t used to cherish weekends (because I was always working them), but I see the value now.
How’s it up there?
Those electrics are catching up to their ICE counterparts.
Oh, and Fiona Apple’s sister can sing too.
hey dearie — i missed most of it — been busy with family. we go to jen’s sunday.
did i miss any news today?
Okie doke. I tried editing out your name, but I hit the time limit. Hope you’re having good night.
Hanging in there.
Keeping it real …? Sorry, couldn’t resist.
what’s EPU?
3rd day in a row of sunshine.. fingers and toes crossed the weather dood is correct and that i’m gonna have sunshine for an additional 7 days. that’s gonna bust that 3 day record to smithereens :)
hey hannibal — how ya doing tonight?
well pumpkin time. gotta go.
peace ladies and germs.
Remember, BS can get you to the top, but ti won’t keep you there.
i fixed the first one for ya and saw the second.. thanks for the edit :) i’m relaxing after a long day with relatives that love glenn beck — they watch only fox.
*sigh*
gawd
what a voice
You missed a lot of nonsense. The teapartiers are all a bunch of whackadoodles! But, much as I don’t care for Lawrence O’Dpnnell, he stuck it to Joe Walsh big time! Family Values/$100,000 in unpaid child support. Larry banned him from his show. I laughed. They are each such pufferdoodles.
Doin’ real good. Got a bunch of free stuff today, which is always nice.
i was retired in 2004 after i was declared unfit for duty after having a total knee replacement and 5 bulging discs in my back due to job incurred injuries. i sorta think of it as my past life because that was then — i was on the force for 24 years — and this is now. i don’t miss it and have moved on. a lotta folks don’t make that transition and end up eating their gun or drinking themselves to death because they don’t know how to be anything else than what they were.
i worked real hard to make sure that my transition was successful because the odds were against me.
g’nite tam
There used to be a poster .. Evil Parallel Universe….who would get going toward the end of a thread and be posting away when everyone else had gone on to the next ‘event.’ When you are all energetically posting and realize that everyone’s moved on, you are EPU’d.
so we are basically as fucked as we were last night
*le sigh*
Heloooo!
End of the universe? you totally made me think of Across the Universe…
free is one of my most favorite words
Yeah, kind of weird when you think about it though. She’s doing open mic nights and putting out albums independently. Yet Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber sell out stadiums. Oh well, no accounting for taste.
hallooo kelly — how’s denver tonight?
There’s still hope in dope, Suz…! If not maybe Seppuku will alleviate the pain…! ;-)
There’s a certain sweetness to it, but I grant your premise – and who the fuck is Justin Bieber?
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight?
Ah yep…! ;-)
The duchess did the doge with a dirk, D.C. wise. Might be a good night for a little Court Jester.
Crap, tambershall asked me a question and then EPU’d me. What a week!
I’m actually imbibing in some beer, and at Sea Level with pizza en route…! Life is good..! ;-)
hey bustedcelt — how ya doing tonight?
its been a pisser of a week for sure
i don’t know whether to be glad the week is over or be in dread of whatever the fork is gonna happen next week
Yeech. I feel your pain with the relatives. I have the same problem. For a long time I debated with myself whether it was worth carrying on political discussions with them and finally decided that I was better off discussing politics with people other than family. It still irks me, though, that the people I care about most are the ones I can’t share my interest in current events with. So it goes.
Thanks for the edit.
not a jester but a joker
Annoying teenager who makes really awful pop music. Put out an autobiography and a movie (In 3D) Has his own line of perfume, and the bottle looks like lady parts.
they are in town from out of state and i’ve not seen them since i moved up here. they are both getting up in years and i might not see them again so i was trying to divert the conversation to the things we had in common instead of the r vs left.
gotta admit tho, it was nice to see their jaws hit the floor when i mentioned that i had been a life long republican until 2 years ago
Less hot. But what a week… And today? Today was insane. I’ll tell the belch story in a minute.
Yer evil, M’dear…! ;-)
My jaw just dropped. Really? What brought on the change?
She’s SANE!
Good as can be expected…after losing it today on FDL. Good night…tomorrow is supposed to be our fourth day of sunshine…we can rejoice in that.
*innocent smile*
:-) Yeah, I guess that’s about all that’s needed these days.
Reality…? ;-)
Suzanne, when I told my ex right after our divorce that I didn’t vote for Nixon, I thought he’d hurl! I am not a liar, but I think I’d implied that I voted as he voted…..like a good wifey in those days was supposed to do.
I don’t think I am a mean person by nature, but I gotta say that I enjoyed telling him the truth about that vote…..finally!
indeed we can bcelt — indeed we can :)
Know what? My dad admitted to me in email that he has been blustering. He’s been saying all the time he’s “voted in every election” and “didn’t vote for Obama.”
Well, lo and behold, turns out he didn’t vote on the Prez line, but cast a ballot on all the other lines.
He only said so, ’cause I told him that is what I was doing this time around in ’12!
I always equate hardcore Republicans with cult members. Only way to get through to them is to kidnap them and deprogram them, and even with deprogramming there’s only a 30% chance of success, not to mention it’s illegal. Kidding of course.
i was one of those john lindsay republicans… fiscally conservative but socially liberal.
i realized the r party had left me years ago but never saw any reason to change registration since i thought there really is no difference between the r’s and the d’s… i fell victim to the hopey changie combined with my move to oregon requiring i go down to the county clerks office to register to vote and for the first time in my life, declared i was a democrat instead of a republican.
It’s all craziness now! Both my father and brother….traditional Republican and his neo-con spawn…refused to vote the presidential line in 08. Tho my dad did say that he would have voted for Hilary had she been nominated; my brother agreed with that. We’re in the fog of politics….oooooohhhhh.
wow
*heh* Relish what small victories might arise…! ;-)
Nobody can deprogram stupid….
Cool. Congrats. Enlightenment is hell, though.
Yep. Just goes to show you that intelligence is variable. I have a family member who is an aerospace engineer/scientist Republican. I couldn’t account for that for a long time.
when i was married to the fundy, i was not permitted to cut my hair more than 1/4″ trims only because ‘women are supposed to have long hair’.
the day after i found out he had been schtupping the next door neighbor, i got my hair cut very very short. i called my hairdresser, told her of his sins, and she worked me in her schedule as an emergency case. it was gratifying as hell to see his jaw muscles twitching when he first saw my hair and knowing he couldn’t say a fucking word about it.
The best part is, they’re moving out of Jeff Flake’s district to….drum rol…AUSTIN!
I told him, hey that’s dirty hippy territory; live it, love it, protect your SocSec dude. Unless it’s Romney, he’s bowing out of the Prez line, again, and unless the re-districting gets weird, voting for DOGGETT!
I about pissed my pants.
And I’d still describe myself as fiscally conservative and socially liberal. That just makes sense to me. Always has. Don’t waste money on wars/empire building…and take care of the populace/taxpayers. Is there a “better” way to think????
hey robert — how’s soPA tonight?
Now there’s some justice in action!
hot dayam! will wonders never cease :)
After a evening of sparring with a few of FDLers so ready to raise the white flag of surrender to 2012, I took a drive into my old neighborhood, got out of the car and walked around. I began to understand the comfort of giving up when I passed the crumbled foundation of what used to be a shop that sold rasperry glazed truffles. Folks just dump their empty boxes of Wheat Thins in there now….
my sgt at the time later told me that he lost a bet he had made — he had bet another officer that i was gonna wake the fundy (also an officer at the same dept) up with the sig-sauer resting between his eyes and me sitting on his chest saying ‘we gotta have a little talk’
i am dayam proud of the fact that my sgt thought i was ballsy enough to do that. however, i tended to be ballsy at work and not so much in my personal life at the time. when he told me that, i got better about asserting myself personally and not being such a doormat. there is a reason it was called the divorce from hell but i got out.
ouch… a painful trip down memory lane :(
I’m still astounded. He’s come WAY around.
I agree with your notion of fiscally conservative. Unfortunately though, the usage of the term “fiscally conservative” today means that one believes the US government should assist in managing the corporate monopolization of American economics and social norms.
‘evenin’, all-
Hoping for the best-but me and the missus are going shopping tomorrow.
fuck — this is so forking wrong
US State Dept refuses visas for Ugandan Little League team; crushes hopes of 1st African team to ever qualify for Little Leage World Series
Buy enough to create a job, Ron.
We all get out in whatever way works. When I found that ‘Mr. Religious Paragon” was having ‘blips’ (I swear that’s how the fool tried to make it okay) with my friends (he pointed out gently “Well, they really weren’t your friends”) I was pissed…..I also realized that I’d just won the lottery! I could leave the fucker with dignity. I never cheated on him. I was a good wifey. I’d done my time! Bliss.
back in the 60′s and early 70′s it had its original meaning and it had not been perverted yet
hey rond — all day or half day?
That’s ridiculous, but par for the course these days.
Didn’t something like that happen in The Sopranos?
I guess I run with an older crowd. Fiscal conservative still means in my group what it has always meant.
Yep. I often wish I could describe my own conservativism, but it’s impossible to use the term “conservative” to express reasonable actions without being misunderstood as one of the cult members.
i dont know hannibal — i haven’t had hbo in more than a decade or two … maybe that’s where sarge got the idea
Yeah, in some parts I’m sure it still has its original sense of reasonable restraint.
I not only don’t have HBO, I don’t even have cable. That’s what streaming video is for.
just as the rwnj’s have perverted the term conservative, they have also perverted the term christian. i musta been busy at church when the memo came out about how ya had to be a particular kinda christian to run for office
should be able to do it in a half day. We’re treating it like hurricane prep; worse case is we’ll have it. No downside to stocking up, and it may pay off big if something really crazy happens.
my basic cable is included in my rent, along with the electricty, water, garbage, and home phone line. the only thing it doesn’t cover is the wood for the wood stove
I’ve never been wary of saying I’m conservative….but I don’t have any truck with those who think that being conservative means that women are breeders who have no voice in their own medical and family planning choices, that schools are diabolical and should become businesses for profit, that fundamentalists know everything (or anything but their own religious quirks)……conservative in my generation is about not being wasteful, not overreaching, not thinking we are exceptional.
at least it is shopping for stocking up and not clothes. i forking h-a-t-e whoever come up with the idea of ‘the mall’
Yeah, I hate to say it, but we’re in survivalist mode here. Food, fuel, medicine, ammo, batteries, and so on.
tis good to be prepared for the worst while hoping for the best — and it is hurricane season
Evenin Suz an pup’s. I had a week from hell and that did not give me much time to keep up on the shit in DC.
It’s good to have a good supply. Maybe I’ll lay in another rolling pin.
Hey, homeroid………my favorite Girl Scout… :)
hey homeroid — same here. from what i gather, we are still as fucked as we were.
are ya gonna get a breather this weekend?
Suzanne, you did good…..avoided the magic 100. You are so sweet.
That’s a good deal, plus you’ve got a wood burning stove. I don’t even have a real heater in my place, not that it gets all that cold in So Cal. But anyways, Sopranos was a really good show. Not as good as Game of Thrones, but that’s an entirely different genre.
congrats on snagging the happy lucky 100 dearie!!!
(dayam, i totally forgot to watch out for it again)
eveing, Suzzzz … firegods
the fact that it included all utilities made it fit my budget even though the rent was higher than what i had originally budgeted for. it got down to 13 this past winter and does a decent job of keeping it semi comfortable inside. its not so much the temp but the drafts in this old house that made it semi and not fully comfy in the winter.
hey ppd — how ya doing tonight?
homeroid…..Our little camp chat on CT’s thread the other night really got me jazzed for doing some camping with my daughter and her twin baby guys….almost 3. I camped with my kids from the time they were born…and before. And I’ve got a great state campground at the beach just up the road from me. My daughter’s husband is not a camper, but she’s got some great friends who are effectively aunt&uncle to the boys….and they are good campers, too. It is time to introduce those little boys to sleeping in a tent! Thanks for spurring my interest again.
Seems we could not get the extension of time to move our wood shop. We were holding out just another month for a bigger(warmer) space. So now we moved all to our main complex and a smaller space. But with the outlook for the next year or so it may pay to have smaller overheads and make do as best we can. On that vein of thought i am gearing up for survival fishing. And that means lot’s of canning jars. I wont get into nonregulation gear.
i took stephanie camping when she was about 6 months old and cutting teeth. it was a little rough on me taking care of 4 kids (including a teething baby) while the fundy was out fishing all day. he soured me on camping
pretty good, thanks — hope your family’s well
How cool, Dearie…! *g*
*wowsers* I’m feeling my oats tonite…! I bid ya’ll a fond adieu…! I’ll be up top again, tomorrow nite, then I’m off for a spell…!
Aloha Oe, Ya’ll…! *g*
i think there is gonna be a lotta making do in a lotta folks future. so many already have to struggle with too much month at the end of the money and i fear its only going to get worse.
i’ve cut back as much as i can and am still trying to find ways to stretch those pennies so i’m not back in the mess i was in a few years ago of only having a $100/month food budget.
so far so good :) taking the aunt and uncle to jen’s sunday and then they continue east on their trip. talked to jen today and she said jujube has really hit a growing stretch these past two weeks and has gotten a lot longer.
g’nite tut
I hear you. I have no problem expressing the areas I lean conservative. It’s more a matter of making sure I’m understood. Since I have to qualify what I mean by the term “conservative” when I use it, it’s often easier to just find a way around expressing the term so that I can make myself understood. I still use it when the context clarifies what I mean by it. Anyway, I’m splittin’ hairs. Need to head off to bed. Night all.
g’nite vmt
Good for you Dearie. Kids need to know how to make the best of where ever they are. If one finds themselves in a pile of rocks-rearrange the rocks. I was lucky i had a mother who wanted me to know how to survive. As a kid i could go on every camping adventure the scouts could come up with. In adulthood it just never stopped.
Yeah, I do worry for so many. I frugaled all my life with the intent to be comfortable in retirement (meaning: not afraid of having to eat cat food.) And now the idiots who were elected are going to fuck that up anyhow. The teabaggers are truly stupid; the demos are truly worthless. Obama is a fraud. To whom do we turn? I wish I had just cashed out and moved to Belize or Costa Rica…..but I couldn’t get my kids to agree to come along with their families.
Later Tut gnite.
so everything’s good with jenn & family — that’s great.
I’m watching Kris Kristopherson on Austin City Limits — singing Me & Bobby McGee — doesn’t get any better than that.
Hi Suz, pups, boy it’s good to come here and not think about the shit in DC.
Thanks for hosting the virtual campfire.
both my parents grew up in large poor families during the depression — i grew up learning to shop in thrift stores and watch for sales and got new clothes only once a year from the store. my mom usually made a lot of us kids’ clothes. we made do and stretched and i learned valuable life lessons i passed on to my girls.
hey margot — how’s ohio tonight?
I was watching Fox. The tone of the cable pundit’s talk was so shrill, I blindly pushed buttons on my remote. Hitchcock’s Dial M for Murder flashed across the screen. How could I ever have guessed the solution to all my frustrations would be found on Turner Classic Movies.
The Sweety stared at me from her perch across the living room, like she knew what I was thinking….
hiya margot
Hot, smells like clover and new-cut grass, thundery. I’m going to the Farmer’s Market tomorrow to get some good Amish relish. Chow-chow, I think it is.
Hey PPD!
There’s a wonderful balance. My kids got to learn about having money and choices….and they also got to learn thrift and advance planning. I think what they have that I didn’t is the capacity to enjoy the good times… and not worry all the time. There is something to be said for that!
i’ve never had that — what’s in it?
Yes love the crackle an pop of the wood. Luck there aint much street noise at this place.
it was another long day today and tomorrow is going to be just as bad. i better head out now — before i get my second wind and end up until 4am like i did last night.
thanks for letting me hang out with ya tonight — hope to see ya tomorrow night for sat nite cartoons.
g’nite all
Good night, Suzanne. You do, indeed, run a lovely salon.
I had to look it up.
tomatoes, peppers, onions, cabbage, mustard, spices, basically. It is delish. I’ve heard it called piccalilli too.

Nite Suz. Looks all have nodded off by the fire.
night all – be well
I’m popping in after all the firedogs are curled up and drifting into slumber.
Thank you everyone for FDL. I listened to an incredible lecture by Richard Wolff, read more important information than my poor brain felt capable of, [yet retained and processed while working elsewhere], and still got a few good laughs in.
We, the People, are not ink on a dry, treasured document. We, The People, are here.
sweet dreams
Yeah, me, too. Stopping in way too late. Volunteering to be EPU’d!
Night all. Even I’m tucking in!
Since there’s no rest for the wicked……
I miss Lurking Mod.
just saying.
Good morning, pups. It’s Blow and Nocera today. Ms. Collins is still on book leave. Mr. Blow, in “My Very Own Captain America,” says racial revisionism is rampant in Hollywood. But the new “Captain America” film made it personal. Mr. Nocera, in “The Madoff Trustee’s Bad Day,” says in the latest chapter over Bernie Madoff’s heinous Ponzi scheme, a federal judge delivers a big loss to everyone except the banks. What else is new?
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, the cold drinks are in the fridge, and because we’re back in the blast furnace (the heat index is 85 already)I’ve got a variety of cold cereal with whatever kind of milk you like. Has anyone tried soy or almond milk? Can you actually drink the stuff? I’m a huge milk drinker, so I doubt I’d ever down a glass of the stuff, but maybe on cereal? Have a great day.
Hi Marion, just driving by; I’ve been drinking soy milk (vanilla flavored) for a few years now, also using it on cereal, and I think it’s just fine :-)
