Ezra: If you take the Republicans’ goals as avoiding a deal in which they have to vote for tax increases and denying Obama a political victory, it looks like they have succeeded.
I think about the attack on Social Security. Now today, S & P launches an attack on the US and this will have devastating effects on bond ratings. Some sickos out there are willing to create “invisible death panels” for the retired one way or another.
I see these “plays against citizens” as creating conditions that will starve the elderly and deny healthcare.
And the GOP won’t claim victory and sign. We owe a debt of gratitude to the tea party for keeping some of the awful deals ObamaLLP proposed from becoming law. If not for them, I think Obama would have been able to pass the house without a single Dem vote.
OT: Anyone else still have problems with the site/links? When I click on my friends in account, I get a thread, not friends. When I click on Caturday, I get the Altman thread….Ive done all the things suggested…;(
Really sad to read his piece…Even a change in the stupid drug policy, ex. Re-importation, would have been smart/easy. Makes sense in hindsight…trying to do away with most of the Medicare program.
thanks, BT, and I see that the Anti-Defamation League is counter-rallying Perry – whose constituency is not for anyone but descendants of northern Europeans.
RevBev, can’t tell you when, but it’s going to be fixed eventually. I also go strange places when I hit some links, and have to switch from Firefox to IE to get there. Maybe load Firefox and/or Chrome?
FF seems to have more problems than IE or Safari. I have yet to be redirected on IE. I won’t use Chrome cuz it’s a Google product. Google collects too much personal info for my liking. That and Google couldn’t jump fast enough when China wanted to block sites.
Thanks…I had wondered if it may be permanent. I do have Explorer. So weird b/c I could get Caturday yesterday when it first went on the menu, then not been able to get it since…Really sorry they are having that much trouble.
Obama’s new campaign poem, thanks to Dante.
Through me you pass into the city of woe:
Through me you pass into eternal pain:
Through me among the people lost for aye.
Justice the founder of my fabric mov’d:
To rear me was the task of power divine,
Supremest wisdom, and primeval love.
Before me things create were none, save things
Eternal, and eternal I endure.
All hope abandon ye who enter here.
That pisses me off. Our hard earned $$$ paid out in taxes, made roads and byways publicly owned. To turn around and sell off what our parents, our parents’ parents, us and our children ( and perhaps our children’s children in some cases) have paid to build and maintain, is criminal. It. Is. Theft.
I would agree to promoting his blog and NYT columns, but Paul, and other prescient economists, are doing what they should be doing — poking holes in the crazy ideas out there. We need real political leadership.
The reason Paul and others aren’t listened to by the PTB is that they don’t say what they want to hear.
Chrome is actually pretty good, but AdBlock Plus doesn’t work as effectively as it does on Firefox. I tried it and fled back to Firefox the first time I got an ad in a video clip.
I understand they are to provide the PowerPoint slides sometime soon, but I’m not sure whether they’ll be posted here or sent to participants. I can’t imagine that they cannot be shared.
I guess the thing that got to me the most was the fact (which I knew, but they emphasized over and over) that Social Security (by law) cannot add one PENNY to the deficit. There is no rationale for Obama putting SS and Medicare on the table during deficit cutting talks. They are disillusioned by Obama — they were both advisers to his campaign.
That, and their assertion that Social Security is in more danger that it has ever been!
Social Security by law cannot add
one PENNY
to the deficit.
Jane, if you are reading, I would be willing to make a t-shirt design with this idea. It could even be made into a 1-2 dollar downloadable image to be printed on t-shirt transfers or car window posters as a fund raiser.
Using the Commutative, Associate and Distributive law .
The commutative law says you can swap numbers
a= bush asshole , b= obama asshole and c= stupids shits(are the same)
The Commutative law when add a+b=b+a
When you Multiply a x b = b x a
The Associate laws of addition
(a + b)+c =a+(b+c)
The Associate law of Multiplication
(axb)x c = a x(bxc)
If everything remain constant, we are Royally Fuck!
Morning, BT.
From the second link:
File under: Even a blind squirrel …
It seems Paul K. and I agree.
Wrote this over the weekend (yesterday actually):
(my bold)

Boxturtle (And I think that was his plan)
No one bothers to listen to Krugman. Certainly not the WH. He’s become a shouting voice in a vacuum.

Mornin’, BT, pups
Well, the beginning of another week of drama as the neoliberals try to privatize the country.
Fait accompli here in TX, costs $10 to drive back and forth to the DFW airport.

Actually, the way to make Paul heard is for him to be raised up by us as a symbol of leadership.
I have Chrome because this laptop used to belong to my Kid, and he can access his stuff when he gets on it by going to Chrome, which I don’t use.

Obama channeling Custer:
Where’d all them fuckin’ dfh’s come from?
I hope/think that he is going to see alot more if SocSec/Medicare are cut. Why was it the pols used to fear the “senior” vote?
I would agree to promoting his blog and NYT columns, but Paul, and other prescient economists, are doing what they should be doing — poking holes in the crazy ideas out there. We need real political leadership.
The reason Paul and others aren’t listened to by the PTB is that they don’t say what they want to hear.
Perry is using our dollars to fight against EPA protections, as well. He is a criminal, thru and thru.
It is not just the senior vote, it is my vote too. I’ll cast a vote to protect my parents.
And, I guess, b/c they do not come with a boat load of money to make their voices “louder”. The golden rule…Ob is very good at it.
I’m a bit slow on the uptake. What are “dfh’s”?
Yep…all these kids who do not want parents moving in with them ;) that would be me!
I get that Paul and Co say what the PTB does not want to hear. All the more reason to drum the PTB out with Paul K.
My parents love their independence. It would sadden them to lose that. They take pride in maintaining their independence.
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.

Boxturtle (And when we post, we’re supposed to be in our parents basement in our bathrobe covered with cheetos)
Oh, lordy, you’ve been here all this time and didn’t know about us dirty fuckin’ hippies. *g*
Have a good day SD. I seem to be filled with some righteous anger today. The kind that wants to take a stand and not budge.
Oh, right.
I hate to recommend drugs, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone, but for me they’ve always worked.
Boxturtle (Thank you, Hunter S. Thompson)
I’ve spent 40 years tamping my PTSD anger down. Now I have to work much harder at it. Taking a stand is easy now.
(Boxturtle!)
klynn giggles. (But still willing to take a stand on issues today!)
Your comment would make a great diary.
I would title it:
Taking A Stand Is Easy Now.
RevBev, are you using Firefox? I found that when I fired up Chrome I didn’t have the problem. But do report it on the sidebar link in MyFDL.
For sure…would be hard on most everybody….
Yeah, but IE is MICROSOFT. (And they dropped their Mac product long ago.)
No, Explorer…good for you. Thanks.
Chrome is actually pretty good, but AdBlock Plus doesn’t work as effectively as it does on Firefox. I tried it and fled back to Firefox the first time I got an ad in a video clip.
I was on the Social Security webinar last night and I am ALL FIRED UP this morning.
I hope there is a summary of the webinar today.
Are you able to share one “take-away” that created the most profound impact on getting you fired up?
I understand they are to provide the PowerPoint slides sometime soon, but I’m not sure whether they’ll be posted here or sent to participants. I can’t imagine that they cannot be shared.

Go rummage at their website: Strengthen Social Security.
Boy that would make a great t-shirt…
An enlarged image of a penny and the words:

to the deficit.

Jeesy-peasey. I edited that to read “fundraiser” and it has not posted.

Who would believed John Of Orange and Eric Cantor with his troop of Hush puppies would out flank General Armstrong Obama.
