Evidently Bachman is a Lutheran. Back in the 16th century Luther did write that the Pope is the anti-Christ, over and over again. Luther also believe that he was living in end times.

Last weekend’s New York Times magazine had an interview with Sheila Bair, whose five-year term heading the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. (FDIC) expired last week. Now she can begin to tell what happened. She said that Mr. Obama promised her that he would try to prevent the mortgage frauds that were occurring, especially in subprime mortgages, and support better bank regulation. But then she would learn, just an hour before he gave a speech, that he would have changed the draft that she had seen, and took out what he’d promised her. The rewrites apparently were done mainly by Tim Geithner, who acts as a lobby for the big bank contributors. Instead of running the Treasury to benefit the U.S. economy, he’s benefiting his Wall Street constituency. Significantly, he was a protégé of Clinton Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin, who gave the name “Rubinomics” to pro-Wall Street opposition to bank regulation and a dismantling of public control over the banking system.

Ain’t it the truth.

What is Bachmann’s transgression?

Where should I start she belonged to a church that does not like Gays or Catholics? There is no scenario where the GOP wins the Presidency without Catholic votes. There is no better way to piss off conservative Hispanics like Florida Cubans than attacking the Church. Michelle can’t even be VP if this story gets traction.
Moderate Voters and Lefties a Majority support Gay Marriage and now Michelle is doing a Mitt waffle on her Gay hate first she denies her husband runs a Pray away the Gay clinic then news comes out she leaves her anti gay church whats next is she going to walk away from her previous anti gay stands?
Sure Michelle’s supporters realize Michelle is doing all this ( wink ) just to get Moderate voters but it does say something to Michelle’s supporters that she has to walk way from them.
Michelle’s attacks on African American farmers recently suggest that her campaign thinks attacking African Americans is safer than attacking Gays or Catholics which is interesting.

That is just too wrong for words.

I don’t take the early attendance stories that suggest “nobody” is seeing it seriously. Not yet. Some fellow in Orange, Co. CA based his story on attending a midnight Thursday opening night showing. Tea Partiers are not known for staying up that late. But by the same token, folks over at Fox News and self-interested webbers like Andrew Breitbart and his minions claiming “sell-outs” and “Everywhere” are just, well, lying.

No word yet as to whether it reached its hoped-for audience of 12,000 this weekend. That was going to be a tough sell, with the AMC Universal 20 here in Orlando being one of those 10 theaters showing it. You have to pay to park there. And AMC and Victory (the distributor) bought no ads, so the angry phone calls from Palinites over my unfavorable review also griped “Where’s it showing?”

That audience is not Fandango friendly. Apparently.

The LA Times is quoting the distributor that the film performed according to expectations and will roll out in more cities next weekend, with producers claiming $5,000-10,000 per screen average. But if that’s the case, why wouldn’t they report those figures to the company that tracks box office data, rather than simply saying they’ve succeeded without independent verification? It’s not listed in the Top 35 movies this weekend, which if it made its $120,000 goal, would be the case, had they chosen to report it. Given the conservative reputations of both Victory and the AMC chain, owned by a right wing billionaire/activist, well, who should take their word for it?

UPDATE 2: The Wrap reports the film earned in the $65-75,000 range, which is far short of the $12,000 per screen average they set as their announced goal before rolling it out into more theaters. That’s 7,500 tickets sold. Or 750 per theater. Or roughly 50 per showing. “Sell outs?” Where?

Then again, like the movie’s title, they’re declaring “victory,” factual numbers be damned. No wonder they didn’t report their take to box office measurement services. They wanted to be able to spin it to the LA Times any way they wanted. Not that a $7,500 per screen average is bad. But it’s not exactly evidence of a “movement.” Is it? And that’s the high end of their claimed box office take.

Is Michelle’s husband still getting Government fund’s for his quack clinic? Does Michelle think that the Federal Government should regulate people’s bedrooms?

Salem Lutheran Church of Stillwater MN is a Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod church according to its website. The Wisconsin Synod is the most doctrinaire Lutheran group in the US, even more than the Missouri Synod. Its doctrine is a combination of a very strict interpretation of Reformation era Lutheran doctrine and American fundamentalism, which can be pretty toxic and narrow minded. These things are hard to understand without a pretty close knowledge of the ins and outs of the history of Lutheran immigration and the things the different groups liked to fight about.

Its a little weird, but the anti-Catholic thing comes straight out of the 16th century. Back then people had wars over these points, so I guess its not as bad now as it could be.

The fact that Bachmann believes the Pope is the Antichrist somehow makes me feel better. If these people really hate Catholicism so much, it’s not quite so surprising that they also hate blacks, jews, gays, immigrants, the government, and so on.

I am an admirer of yours, Blue Texan, but you have run off the rails here.

So what if Bachmann’s church has a nutty view of the Pope? Are these views any nuttier than those of the Mormons, or even of the Catholics themselves.

The Founders of the Republic are a very over-rated bunch, in my opinion, but one smart thing they did was prohibit a religous test for public office. Let’s keep it that way.
