The kind of victory Pyrrhus could appreciate.
Muammar Gaddafi could stay in Libya if he gives up power, France said on Wednesday, signalling a new effort to find a diplomatic solution to a five-month-old war that has failed to oust the resilient leader.
The United States said Gaddafi must quit, but whether he remained in Libya after that would be up to the Libyan people.
Couldn’t they at least suggest Elba?
Yet another great policy victory for our nation’s strategy of eventually fighting every possible nation. You better get ready Lichtenstein and Lesotho!

About Firedoglake
Atlantis is now entering the earth’s atmosphere. On touchdown in half an hour, we’re going to walk away from that, too.
Here is the link
What kind of half assed plan is that, he gets to stay there. Oh I am sure that won’t lead to any troubles. Why not put him up in Versailles. That is the least the French could do since this appeared to be Sarkozy’s re election plan.
Tracking Atlantis too. Wish I had headed to coast. Just started across the pennisula. I should hear the sonic boom soon.
Sounds like The Big Zero was doing the negotiating.
Someone screwed it up royally. Where’s Gates to tell us whose head should be examined?
Shoot. No sonic boom for me. Must have come up over Okeechobee and further east.
Yup. Over the lake, then around.
So it ends. Others who are willing to pay for greatness will pick up the torch.
It was a beautiful but very sad landing.
Will they bring the bill out to the runway for the astronauts?
Hee. Hee. You have to pay in advance for the flight silly.
With extra for snacks. Cards only.
Baggers want it all, but don’t want to pay for it. Un-American to their core.
Was in Langley Field area of VA when LBJ got in, and moved the astronaut program from there to Houston. Several early members of the team refused to go.
Yep, it’s really very much like everybody’s crazy aunt got out of the attic and into congress.
Iraq: check
Iran: coming soon
Israel: never happen
Stupid, stupid, stupid. Yet another STUPID Bush policy that Obama couldn’t wait to embrace.
Hopefully no one will get the inspiration to take over TX. Of course, no one wants those buckling roads, light-up faucet water and grass fires.
My Libertarian brother’s home was recently spared from an enormous fire by a helicopter and a C-130 tanker both dumping water on the fire. I’ll bet you anything, anything that he still whines about how mistreated he is having to pay taxes.
Good morning, pups. It’s Bruni and Kristof today, since Gail Collins is still on book leave. Mr. Bruni, in “2 Dads, 2 Daughters, 1 Big Day,” says a Gracie Mansion wedding planned for Sunday puts the spotlight on one family’s values. Mr. Kristof, in “Bonuses for Billionares,” is a bit stunned: Wow! The logic of the Tea Party caucus in the G.O.P. really grows on you. Who needs air traffic control, anyway?
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, the cold drinks are in the fridge, and I’ve got blueberry pancakes for breakfast. We’ve got a weather alert telling us that the heat index will likely be 110+ today. Oh, joy… Have a great day.
Interesting. I used to live near Nasa Road 1 in Clear Lake. The program and the area and people became pretty wedded. There was a great hamburger dive I used to go to that reportedly was an astronaut hang out. I never saw an astronaut but the burgers were good.
This is rather like my climate denier sister and BIL getting caught at Raton Pass in their mother of all RV’s, by a wildfire.
Thanks, and good luck on getting thru the day. Staying in the AC is getting old here.
My brother kicked Wally Shirra’s kids out of the country club pool because they were so rowdy. Dunno if they had good burgers.
I grew up a stone’s throw from the back gate of NASA/Ellington AFB. In the early days of NASA in Houston before Clear Lake City, Nassua Bay and etc existed, the astronauts, NASA personnel and Ellington AFB folks all lived in my neighborhood, called Genoa, Texas. I was born in 1960 and it wasn’t until the movie Apollo 13 came out that I realized how privileged I was to grow up so close to history being made.
Notice how when it snows in January, people like your sister and my brother say “So much for global warming” but in the height of record drought and threatened by wildfire we don’t hear, “Wow! There is global warming”?
Some of the trailer aspect of RV life seems to have rubbed off on them, I fear. They even went to Branson, MO, and then a nascar event. Seems like something about being a major polluter messes them up.
Good morning pups.
Another beautifull, but smoking hot, day expected here. Have taken several days of vacation and started with the final shuttle landing. Very sad on many levels.
Hmmm…I suspect carbon monoxide fumes.
oldnslow! Hope you guys are doing well. Tell that gorgeous hottie cbl I said hi!
I will! Hope you are well also. How is the job? We need to catch up soon. Burger and a beer this week end maybe?
I look forward to a burger and a beer with you guys but it can’t be this weekend. Got a hippie wedding to attend this weekend. We’ll make it soon though!
Sad morning, indeed, especially knowing that so many folks are out of jobs.
Yahooo for a hippie wedding. We had a 100 b-day for our little town last Saturday. Bob Schneider, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Los Lonely Boys, dancing ’til we dropped, much fun made by thousands. Always a good idea to forget everything and party once in a while.
Speaking of work, I’m grateful I have some and now I’m heading off to do it. Laters.
We are lesser sons of greater sires.
Their idea of patriotism was to build and explore and create a better world for the greater glory of America.
The Republican idea of patriotism is to crash the country, and try to figure out a way to profit from its demise.
Our children will despise us.
It seems as though we as a country have intentionaly ignored the immeasurable technological gift to society that our research investment in NASA turned out to be. I suppose because we no longer make stuff it doesn’t matter. A sure sign that U.S. manufacturing will not reccover.
Sad to say, true. Being on a pinnacle seems to have made some really unworthy feelings take over too many of the voting public.
The private sector can do it better. /s
When given subsidies that are financed by starving granny.
Snark indeed. Good morning.
Seems to me that the banksters have moved the US space program to China as well. Just saw a spot on Chinese TV this last Monday in which the official said (paraphrase) that “Earth is the cradle of life but we now have to go exploring outside of that to see where we want to colonize.” Kid you not. It’s been years that I yelled at the TV.
Turn off the teevee. Helps your digestion, sleep better at night, too.
Tape a picture of Rupert on it to remind you, and let it be.
Yeah, I know … I immediately checked myself.
Recall Dean Baker’s “Intro Econ for WAPO: Foreign Holdings of U.S. Debt Depend on the Trade Deficit, not the Budget Deficit” (July 20, 2011)?

The question is, how is it for France, or Nato, or the US, or even the UN to say who governs Libya? It isn’t. Except by force of arms, which supposedly was what the UN was set up to prevent, but instead it facilitates, and I guess this kind of insanity makes for a good laugh?
I hear you. Here’s more on that insanity theme (my bold):

OMG brought to you by the $%^&* banksters. It’s one thing to bring in experimental subsystems into a system in production as telecommunications which I saw done by South Korea’s Samsung in Australia back in 2000 (the noise of the inferior equipment increased the noise in telephone calls from “hot” circuits) but this should send up massive red flags as we know what a failure of this system means.
A video snippet of what’s in Nepal that is of major historical/cultural/symbolic importance (Shakyamuni’s birth place is not India but Nepal). The ChineseG is happy to be used by the banksters to turn these areas and India into a hollow DisneyLand like they have Lhasa as they can’t stand a culture of thinking and critical analysis since it challenges their hegemony. Iraq down, Greece a work-in-progress and next stop Iran.

Yes. And this time there aren’t even any good actors in the mix. At best we’re wasting time and resources in Libya. Leave ‘em be.
