Hey hon. Hot, humid, sticky, steamy. 85F at 1am. It seems like this kind of climate should trigger some kind of reverse hibernation response, where we sleep thru the summer. How’s the coast?
was cloudy and looked like it might rain most of the day and then it cleared late afternoon. clouds came back before sunset and rain is in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow. been in the 60′s during the day and the 50′s at night.
So, I’m watching this History Channel program on the rise of the Third Reich. It’s done pretty well-I love watching HC programs and picking out the mistakes. They just discussed Leni Reifenstahl, and Triumph of the Will. I remember watching that, in toto, in Media Studies, in high school. I wonder what would happen to a teacher who showed that film to a class today.
At least Token is asleep (great name BTW). My miscreant has torn up a phone book today and just attempted to tear up the bathroom. At midnight we had to go outside and play fetch.
no, its an actual chair on the other side of the living room. she can see out of two sets of windows, one looking west and the other north… its her happy place
he is named that because he is too small to be a real dog. he was 2lbs 4oz and fit in the palm of my hand when i got him at 8 weeks. he’s up to 10 lbs now and thinks he is part cat
Have you ever been to the wildlife preserve on Merritt Island? Highly recommend it if you haven’t. Since the shuttle is returning at 6 am today, it should reopen by Sunday, maybe even Saturday.
Just a little over 2 weeks. Very interesting. Life seems to be chugging along for folks there much as it was when I left several years ago. They don’t seem to be noticing the state of the rest of the country.
No. I’m more of a Gulf Coast denizen, but I love the east coast. I’ve heard about the Merritt Island preserve, but never been there. Is it the kind of thing that can be done in a day?
the cool here has been a wonderful contrast to the hot everywhere else has had. i would like to see the sun more than once every 3 days but not if it means triple digits
The heat plus humidity did make me a bit tired but I managed better than I thought I would. It did reach 99 degrees F which is just insane (see the current weather forecast).
I had one of those “Oh, crap!” moments today when I read about the attempt to clip the FAA’s wings……………I’m flying to Montana soon. So sorry the Repubs want to smite Bauchas (sp?) and Tester and the divine Gov. of Montana. That on top of the presidential threat to Social Security just as I am about to receive my first SS check. I’m all about, ‘fuck ‘em’ –
Oh, yes, certainly can be done in a day as you really have to drive around it, although biking would work too. We’ve met people from all over the world there, interestingly. It’s way better than a zoo and free (although I see from the link I’m going to add they are now charging).
Here, in the bowels of Christian Funnymentalism and Tea Party idjits, the air even after sundown is like standing in front of the open door of a blast furnace.
This all really pisses me off too. At 49 how am I supposed to save what they would take away as far as SS benefits, when my husband is an unemployed 58 year old? And breast cancer at 39 wiped out my 401K.
At least, as both a dog and cat owner, I am well aware that dog food is cheaper than cat food and better quality to boot.
when i was at my worst, the heater didn’t even come on until it hit 52 inside. helped with the heating bills that winter but i didn’t have many visitors :)
That prompts me for shameless promo of the night: read all The Robert’s swell short stories in anthologies published by the Circle 8 Writers Group by checking out the C8 blog at: http://circle8writers.blogspot.com/ and purchasing C8 books (ebooks & paperbacks) at:
So folks are supposed to somehow live almost another 20 years without work and savings before they can collect what they put into the system that was supposed to be held in safe keeping for them? This looks like yet another “die and be quick about it” statement by the Administration to a majority of the American people.
They’ve been up in New England forever. Don’t know why they were never signed-they’re a hell of a lot better than a lot of people who got famous. If you poke around YouTube, you’ll find some amazing stuff by them.
In the meantime, our betters are reducing our social security savings by extending the tax holiday for businesses, thus giving our SS money away.
And in Illinois and other states, rich companies are being allowed to keep their sales taxes for ten years to stop them from leaving. You know, the very taxes that pay for firemen and police and other no longer needed services….
What rubbish. It seems to me that the conversion of TV to the bread and circus programs of the banksters does have an impact on folks. The real news is reserved for the 1%ers who get personal briefings.
Cenk Uygur’s run at MSNBC sure was short. The news network says that it has “decided to make a change” at 6:00 PM ET, the time slot when since January Uygur has hosted MSNBC Live. “It’s unfortunate that Cenk has declined our offer to have him develop and host a program for another time slot,” MSNBC adds. The Turkish American radio talk show host plans to hold a teleconference with the press on Thursday where, the invitation says, he will “boldly discuss his departure from MSNBC.” The change comes amid reports that MSNBC may turn the time slot over to controversial civil rights activist Rev. Al Sharpton who generated decent ratings filling in for Uygur while he was on vacation.
I’m loving it. That was a great FO to MSNBC for them trying to convert Cenk to a patsy. I used to travel Current TV and, just for that, I’ll give it another look. In the past I said FDL and progressives needed their own satellite channel and I am not kidding.
I used to be a studio musician-small lake right out back of the studio. Studio owner was fresh off the plane from Germany. We’d regale him with stories of gators the size of dinosaurs attacking houses and carrying off small children, etc. One night a big bullfrog lit off right outside, and, as if on cue, we all looked at each other: “Holy shit! Did you hear that? That’s a huge gator, and right outside!” He started to freak, and we kept laying it on until we couldn’t help it anymore, and broke down laughing. It was the only time I ever really saw him furious. We’re still friends, but he’s never quite forgiven me for that.
These ten year agreement don’t mean the employees get out of passing state income taxes. Hell, no. The employer still deducts them from your paycheck, only he gets to keep the money….
ZED!
hey rond — how’s the great swamp tonight?

Hi guys
Hi tuez!
En Vogue! Now that’s some quality finding. Next time I need to form a search party, Suzanne, may I give you a call?
hey tuez — how ya doing tonight?
How was your recent weekend in the great city of Titusville?
hey pd — how ya doing tonight?
I’m doing great Suz. I’m doing even better than Ron, only 83 here.
How you doing Suz?
aretha
i’m kicking back and enjoying the evening, thanks :) token is snoozing at my feet, baileycat is curled up on ‘her’ pillow on ‘her’ chair…

Very nice-going back this weekend, I think.
“her pillow” is named Suzanne, right?
my loving

That’s funny.
Hey Suz!
Hey, Pups. Foggy at the beach today….but nice. I love the solitude.
i had originally thought Token Imitation Male since he was gonna get neutered but Tim, my housepainter at the time didn’t see the humor in that name.
his full name is token einstein gomer cause he really can go either way
hey mzchief — how’s your side of the coast range tonight?
hey dearie — i love the peace and quiet here – i breath it in deeply. how ya doing tonight?
dont let go
Nice and cool which is a welcome contrast to the basting I was recently experiencing in DC.
i was wondering where ya had been. how long were you in dc?
Just a little over 2 weeks. Very interesting. Life seems to be chugging along for folks there much as it was when I left several years ago. They don’t seem to be noticing the state of the rest of the country.

i carry my own personal summer around with me and don’t need extra. tis one of the things i love about living on the coast
I had one of those “Oh, crap!” moments today when I read about the attempt to clip the FAA’s wings……………I’m flying to Montana soon. Also recommend this, if you are so inclined. We did it a couple years ago and it was great.

tis fuckery a’foot for sure dearie
Here, in the bowels of Christian Funnymentalism and Tea Party idjits, the air even after sundown is like standing in front of the open door of a blast furnace.
There is less water for frackers to contamidate.
When fireflies glow, they burst into flame….
Ha ha, I refer to that as my “own personal summer” too. Although, thankfully, this summer it seems to be on the decline.
The last couple of years I used to swear I could personally melt an ice bar.
hey robert — yikes! how long is it going to last?
I’ve heard them referred to as “power surges” and I like that. :-)
At least to the weekend.
I soaked in a tub of iced tea this afternoon. Floating lemon quarters were my rubber duckies….
hold on
This all really pisses me off too. At 49 how am I supposed to save what they would take away as far as SS benefits, when my husband is an unemployed 58 year old? And breast cancer at 39 wiped out my 401K.
At least, as both a dog and cat owner, I am well aware that dog food is cheaper than cat food and better quality to boot.
when it would hit triple digits at the cabin, i used to seriously consider sleeping in the bathroom… all that cool tile…
“When fireflies glow, they burst into flames….”
My god…..how poetic a description of where we are headed. Lovely, so sadly lovely.
The thing about soaking in a tub of iced tea is that I get a quick, safe tan. And I can drain the tub with my plastic super-sizer straw….
Cold and refreshing….
The “power surge” comes from turning down the AC another notch or two, or three…
One winter, a couple of years ago, the house was consistently 50 degrees for 3 days before I noticed it.
when i was at my worst, the heater didn’t even come on until it hit 52 inside. helped with the heating bills that winter but i didn’t have many visitors :)
This band is celebrating its 43rd, that’s right, forty-third, anniversary next week. Happy Anniversary, Rat Race Choir!
Little Wing
Did you ever wonder why 52 in the winter and fall is cold but it is warm in the spring?
great cover dood –never heard of them. they are most excellent – thanks rond

52 is warm compared to 33…. and cool compared to 80
If I went outside for five minutes and walked into a 52 degree house, I’d go into shock.
Shhhh, I’ll let you in on a little secret. One of the veteran LLNFDLers has signed on to write stories for Circle 8.
That’s all I can say about it for now….
Tonight’s gift to insomniac Firepups, in honor of Allen West, is:
The Shakespearean Insulter
Yes, but it’s still 52.
and i would melt if i walked out into your heat and humidity

Forty-three years.
thanks dood… i plan on doing just that ;)
tonight is the last shuttle landing ever… or rather early morning
Allen West is one damned scary mofo…………and we know what he’s capable of. What a mess this Congress is!
I like this one:

Yes, he is. Instead of being humanely confined in a facility where he can be treated, he is giving speeches on the floor of Congress.
apt description of today’s corporate media
I think it’s called trimming the fat. Those of us that are 40-55 now are the fat.
What rubbish. It seems to me that the conversion of TV to the bread and circus programs of the banksters does have an impact on folks. The real news is reserved for the 1%ers who get personal briefings.
I invite you to my house for the rude awakening we will have at 6 a.m. when the shuttle flies over.
Now it’s possible I won’t be in its flight path, but 90 percent of the time I am. The whole house shakes and the puppy will bark nonstop for an hour.
Interestingly, when we lived on the lake, the alligators would bark in response to the double sonic booms.
KO just tweeted:
alligators bark? i had no idea

why cenk left from the horse’s mouth
Another tax on the working class. They could just quit taxing altogether but this way…
If MSNBC keeps dumping its hosts, Current could end up with a decent lineup.
I watched KO tonight streamed on the web. He was all about how it may have been News Corp. that hacked the Climategate emails. Wouldn’t surprise me.
My interpretation is they both bark and bellow but others hear things differently.
Regardless, they make distinctive sounds. Ancient sounds.
wow
Evening, Suzzzz … firegods
hey ppd — how ya doing tonight?
That Cenk thing is interesting on multiple levels and I’ve only watched half of it.
I had noticed, though, and I don’t catch him daily and don’t have cable, he seemed to be reined in over the past few months.
Interesting clip. “We’re the establishment. People in Washington don’t like your tone.”
Hi Suz, everyone. Sticky night here.
I don’t think Current is the establishment.
he didn’t reined it in enough it appears- i linked to part 1 – part 2 is listed in the video list on the right
I’m loving it. That was a great FO to MSNBC for them trying to convert Cenk to a patsy. I used to travel Current TV and, just for that, I’ll give it another look. In the past I said FDL and progressives needed their own satellite channel and I am not kidding.
hey margot — yuck – that’s the worst for sleeping. how bad did it get today?
I Suz, Margot!
nice, humid and 80 degrees
Ima gonna try to sleep again. Toodle-pip, Firepups. Be good to one another.

These ten year agreement don’t mean the employees get out of passing state income taxes. Hell, no. The employer still deducts them from your paycheck, only he gets to keep the money….
g’nite Suzanne

Hi tw3k
Suz, I don’t even want to know how hot/humid it got. But it did cool off and was much better in the evening.
bet the corp doesnt have to declare it as income either *spitting* fuckers
Hi PPD
Shame on you!!!
I’m going to bed guys. The 6 a.m double sonic boom wake up call won’t be pleasant, as it is now 3 a.m.
However, as always, after cussing them out, I will say welcome back guys, glad you are safe.
Thanks again, Suzanne, for hosting this get-together. I’m off to dreamland.
sweet dreams
