Hey hon. Hot, humid, sticky, steamy. 85F at 1am. It seems like this kind of climate should trigger some kind of reverse hibernation response, where we sleep thru the summer. How’s the coast?

was cloudy and looked like it might rain most of the day and then it cleared late afternoon. clouds came back before sunset and rain is in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow. been in the 60′s during the day and the 50′s at night.

So, I’m watching this History Channel program on the rise of the Third Reich. It’s done pretty well-I love watching HC programs and picking out the mistakes. They just discussed Leni Reifenstahl, and Triumph of the Will. I remember watching that, in toto, in Media Studies, in high school. I wonder what would happen to a teacher who showed that film to a class today.

he is named that because he is too small to be a real dog. he was 2lbs 4oz and fit in the palm of my hand when i got him at 8 weeks. he’s up to 10 lbs now and thinks he is part cat

Have you ever been to the wildlife preserve on Merritt Island? Highly recommend it if you haven’t. Since the shuttle is returning at 6 am today, it should reopen by Sunday, maybe even Saturday.

Just a little over 2 weeks. Very interesting. Life seems to be chugging along for folks there much as it was when I left several years ago. They don’t seem to be noticing the state of the rest of the country.

No. I’m more of a Gulf Coast denizen, but I love the east coast. I’ve heard about the Merritt Island preserve, but never been there. Is it the kind of thing that can be done in a day?

the cool here has been a wonderful contrast to the hot everywhere else has had. i would like to see the sun more than once every 3 days but not if it means triple digits

The heat plus humidity did make me a bit tired but I managed better than I thought I would. It did reach 99 degrees F which is just insane (see the current weather forecast).

i carry my own personal summer around with me and don’t need extra. tis one of the things i love about living on the coast

So sorry the Repubs want to smite Bauchas (sp?) and Tester and the divine Gov. of Montana. That on top of the presidential threat to Social Security just as I am about to receive my first SS check. I’m all about, ‘fuck ‘em’ –

Oh, yes, certainly can be done in a day as you really have to drive around it, although biking would work too. We’ve met people from all over the world there, interestingly. It’s way better than a zoo and free (although I see from the link I’m going to add they are now charging).

This all really pisses me off too. At 49 how am I supposed to save what they would take away as far as SS benefits, when my husband is an unemployed 58 year old? And breast cancer at 39 wiped out my 401K.

At least, as both a dog and cat owner, I am well aware that dog food is cheaper than cat food and better quality to boot.

One winter, a couple of years ago, the house was consistently 50 degrees for 3 days before I noticed it.

when i was at my worst, the heater didn’t even come on until it hit 52 inside. helped with the heating bills that winter but i didn’t have many visitors :)

Cenk Uygur’s run at MSNBC sure was short. The news network says that it has “decided to make a change” at 6:00 PM ET, the time slot when since January Uygur has hosted MSNBC Live. “It’s unfortunate that Cenk has declined our offer to have him develop and host a program for another time slot,” MSNBC adds. The Turkish American radio talk show host plans to hold a teleconference with the press on Thursday where, the invitation says, he will “boldly discuss his departure from MSNBC.” The change comes amid reports that MSNBC may turn the time slot over to controversial civil rights activist Rev. Al Sharpton who generated decent ratings filling in for Uygur while he was on vacation.

I’m loving it. That was a great FO to MSNBC for them trying to convert Cenk to a patsy. I used to travel Current TV and, just for that, I’ll give it another look. In the past I said FDL and progressives needed their own satellite channel and I am not kidding.

I used to be a studio musician-small lake right out back of the studio. Studio owner was fresh off the plane from Germany. We’d regale him with stories of gators the size of dinosaurs attacking houses and carrying off small children, etc. One night a big bullfrog lit off right outside, and, as if on cue, we all looked at each other: “Holy shit! Did you hear that? That’s a huge gator, and right outside!” He started to freak, and we kept laying it on until we couldn’t help it anymore, and broke down laughing. It was the only time I ever really saw him furious. We’re still friends, but he’s never quite forgiven me for that.
