Mornin’, BT, pups

Yeah, I thought Warren running would be a good thing but Jane, and now Yves, changed my mind. A person of her talents would be wasted in the Senate. I think she could have much more impact by teaching and/or organizing.

Board member Thomas Perkins says embattled News Corp CEO Rupert Murdoch has full support

“I can assure you, there has been no discussion at the board level in connection with this current scandal of making any changes. The board supports top management totally,” he said. “The board has been misled, as has top management been misled, by very bad people at a very low level in the organization.”

I just love the WaPo article on the capture of a French ship off of Gaza:

Last year, Israeli naval commandos clashed with knife and club-wielding activists on a Turkish ship trying to reach Gaza, killing nine Turkish activists. Both sides have said they acted in self defense.

The execution-style slayings of the unarmed passengers might have been a clue that Israel was not acting in self-defense. But, let’s be fair and say both parties are at fault.

I made a comment on one of her threads the other day about it and she pointed me to a link that said pretty much what Yves said. Jane’s link pointed out how popular Brown seems to be with MA voters. That possibility aside I simply think Warren running would be a waste of her talents. Just her knowledge of economics alone would out Senators as the morons and puppets they really are.

This was another great post at Naked Capitalism — attacking Obama’s statement that:

If you are a progressive, you should be concerned about debt and deficit just as much as if you’re a conservative.

Almost ALL Ds accept this as gospel. Don’t know what Warren’s cut on it would be.

That way they can ignore the increasing jobless rate and, more importantly, the lack of any desire to recreate the country’s manufacturing base. No way we’re going to put 15-20 million people to work in the finance and service industries. The assault on the homeless in every major city in FL reflects the goal of the PTB to hide the problems. It’s not the homeless and panhandlers keeping customers away from retailers, it’s the economy.

I’d like a President who would order every LST (Landing Ship Tank) in the Atlantic fleets to load up with supplies for Gaza and proceed there forthwith, protected by a carrier task force. I’d like to see those gaping bow doors open and offloading on the beaches of Gaza.

But isn’t changing the House and Senate, in a very fundamental way, the very thing we discuss here often. It can only happen by changing the individual Congresspersons and Senators. Because pretty much every fucking one of the 535 seats is occupied by dreck, ya gotta start somewhere, no?

I like Barney, have spoken with him, and worked for his election – and agree that Warren has enough popularity to beat Brown.

As to Yves and the better uses of Warren’s talent, I suggest that a Senator gets media that a smart outsider – say Nader – can not get. Like Nader if not a Senator she would get speaking gigs, radio call in, internet TV, even Russian TV on RT.com (a location I recommend). But that is a tiny fraction of Sunday talk.

I like the idea of Warren and Bernie, together, reaching a national audience, indeed her comments might make the nightly news! If Obama is gone in 2012 we will need more protection in the Senate, and the Senate could lead to a presidential run – something not possible without first being Senator.

I do not like the idea that because the Banks own the Senate all not owned by the Banks should stay out – that is what the banks want. I suggest one should not foreclose possibilities prematurely.

I’m going to join your idea. I would rather her be in the Senate than not. But I still doubt she will have the money or popularity to win it. I certainly do not want her to lose her soul in this effort. But if she fails, she is still free to pursue other avenues. So despite Yves, I want her to run.

To win in Mass, she will need the support of the Obama administration. That will require taking the same approach — philosophically, politically, and morally — to the deficit, debt, and “entitlements” issues that he does — with the economy still at or near 9% unemployment. By the time she wins, she will be totally compromised as a progressive spokesperson. Thinking that she can win espousing a message that embodies what we think of his first term is unrealistic.

IMHO. YMMV.

It could be that Warren has the self-knowledge and integrity to know that the political arena is not the place for her to be most effective. If so, then I respect her even more.
