We know how religion has been used in the muslim world to keep the people under the thumb. Hindu has not helped the majority of indians that live in slums and face starvation daily. Religion has been used as a tool by the powerful for a long time to keep the masses servile, fearful, and to accept their lot in life.

And right there is part and parcel of why Romney is in deep trouble. The True Believers actually show up for the primaries, and Romney, the Mormon, might as well be an atheist as far as those Repub voters are concerned. Many are of the opinion that Mormons are worse than atheists, possibly because they compete for the same pool converts. They don’t vote because of the economy, in spite of what they say. They vote for like believers, anti-gay, anti-abortion, and whatever other “anti” happens to be the flavor of the day at the 700 Club.

Bachmann is one person. I’m with George Carlin when I make the observation that the problem doesn’t lie in the leaders. The problem is in the willfully ignorant electorate that keeps electing these crazy fucks term after term. As he calls them ‘these rich cocksuckers who don’t give a fuck about you’. He was right. It’s the people who are to blame. The leaders, such as they are, are merely a reflection of the populace at large. So put the blame where it belongs, on people who are too stupid, small-minded, bigoted, mean, nasty, xenophobic, racist, and willfully ignorant to elect intelligent, thoughtful, and honest leaders.

I fear that in the next 5-10 years, this will be considered the moderate democrat platform, and the new far right republicans will want to put gays in concentration camps, or blast them off into outer space.

Launching gays into space would be too expensive–the Reprivaticans will go for the concentration camps. And, strangely enough, it will still be considered off-limits to compare them to Nazis.

No disagreement from me. Most/all religions have been used to keep the masses in their place. Christianity tends to be more heavy-handed bc of the proselytizing aspect of that religion (some religions don’t advocate or promote proselytizing).

One can learn a lot from various religious teachings and scriptures, but one must be cautious about anything that is “organized.” JMHO, of course.

Oh, no doubt! Bachmann & her ilk will whither away if the serfs out there simply ignored her. But the serfs are willfully brought to heel by various forces, more’s the pity.

Watched a portion of Lawrence O’Donnell yesterday with Wayne Besen, a gay rights activist. He brought up a 1986 U of Georgia study showing that the most virulent homophobic were more aroused by gay porn than the control group. I can’t say Marcus Bachmann is a closet gay, but I’d be interested if some gay bloggers would check out his persona and report back in. I could care less if he’s gay, it’s just he and his loving spouse are so fucking hypocritical on everything they say they stand for or are against.

I think we need to be careful when calling people “rube-like.” These are people who are at the very bottom of society in every way. Their problems go back sometimes for generations. They are the people who do the dirty work that I wouldn’t and couldn’t do. They live very hard lives and no one could expect that suddenly a Harvard grad is going to pop up out of the blue.

I’ve said this before, but it’s still true and bears repeating. If you truly believe in God as an omnipotent supreme being, then it makes perfect sense to assume God can change people’s sexual orientation.

What I get is that if a new round of back-office stimulus (QE3) is needed to reduce unemployment and make it at least look like the economy is on the mend, and that’s what’s needed to keep Obama in power compared to whatever crazy the GOP puts up, well, let’s get it done.

Now the media is going after the craziest of Bachmann’s many crazy aspects.

Somewhere recently–on the subject of the 23 short-term foster children, mostly teens–I read in the midst of the article that it was speculated that the foster kids were in-house unpaid help for her younger kids. Maybe, maybe not, but it was mainstream media, probably my morning LA Times.

And just when Minnesota is shut down and can’t yank Dr. Bachmann’s license. How convenient.

It is not just the “pray away the gay” that is the issue. It now also involves the GOVERNMENT subsidy! If there is any investigation, this is another way to trim the deficit because Bachmann exposed her husband’s company to their scandal!

Okay, here’s the deal, both of them are racist and anti-gay. Michelle has said the word(s) enslavement or slavery at least five times. Trying to connect any current economic issue to the horrible part of our history, proving once again we haven’t come to terms with racism or slavery in this country. Especially since some Conservatives keep calling the Civil War the “Northern War of Aggression”. These people won’t die, they keep indoctrinating their young with this same bullshit.

I still say being racist is more important than being anti-gay and trying to cure the gay, its not humanly possible and we should move on from this stuff.

I don’t know if that’s true. The Linear Media looks at this as a Horse Race. She’s currently in the lead, they want to know why she’s leading. Plus she’s not well-known outside of Minnesota, despite some of her crazy antics.

I doubt Bachmann will make it out of the primary process, but having said that, it will prove that this country is still very racist and homophobic, all things that don’t reflect well.

I believe that is a “yes” if I understand HER answer to that question. She and her husaband received $160,000 for hiring and training their staff at THAT “clinic” for THAT “purpose”.

A week hardly goes by that Bachmann doesn’t stick her foot in her mouth either spontaneously or in response (or lack thereof) to a question from the media. Whenever someone askes her a substantive question, her answer is the same, “I’m runnin forr the president of the UNited States, and my goal is to increase jobs and lower taxes and secure the blessinga of liberty to ourselves and our posterity.”
