I got EPU’d downstairs. My little town is a bit to the northwest of Nahant, but still in the Boston area – Bedford. I’m going to take a few days by myself afterward at my parents’ condo in Falmouth on the Cape for a little R&R.

Cool and lovely! 57 degrees outside and we are loving it.

Just when I thought the rough edges were off the puppy, at 15 months now, she went for round two of puppiness and started acting like she did a year ago. Into everything. NOTHING is safe again.

I wouldn’t give her away for the world though. The cat on the other hand…. has been up for adoption for going on 5 years.

Prez O is on my mind tonight. Could he be playing that elebenty-dimensional chess again? Has he finally had enough of Republican obstructionism and is he abandoning appeasement? Is he going to embrace his inner FDR?

No.

As I have mentioned before, only two things harsh Obama’s cool. The first is when anyone questions Reaganism, and the second is when anyone calls him on his “tough on Republicans until he folds” act.

The latter is what happened today.

He has been setting this up for over a year. The catfood commission, the tax cuts, pushing the debt limit talks into the new Congress. He send his creature Biden in to handle the preliminary negotiations, running out the clock and resulting in a stalemate. Then Prez O of the Lawn-chair swoops in, negotiates a tough 75% spending cut to 25% tax increase deal (and they could re-open those tax loopholes in the next budget), and strong-arm the Democrats into cutting Social Security. He would have out-Reagan-ed Reagan. Even if it means he is a one-term President, he would have killed the New Deal.

And the Republicans have screwed it up. So Prez O is pissed.

Even David Brooks was saying a few days ago “This is the deal (for Republicans) of the century, how can you not go for it? What’s the matter with you?”.

In order to force the Democrats to kill the New Deal, Obama needs a fig-leaf of tax increases. Without it, the votes just aren’t there.

And yet, the Teabaggers aren’t in this to govern, they are in it to burn the place down. Without their votes, Boehner doesn’t have a majority. To get Democratic votes, he has to write a balanced bill, which neither he nor Prez O want.

The clock is running out, without the “take it or leave it, Democrats” deal in place. Prez O is pissed. Without the deal inked, he can’t fold. The main act of his Presidency is threatened. He wants to kill the New Deal more than he wants to be re-elected. And he wants that more than he wants to keep breathing.

So, expect the temperature to get turned up in the next few days.

my peony still hasn’t bloomed. it always bloomed at the cabin by mother’s day. the summer was so wet and chilly that it didn’t bloom at all last year. still no buds on it this year :(

There’s token’s problem. He asks for lap time. My dog just takes a flying leap when she feels the need. However, this has improved significantly, when we first got her she would do that when I was taking a pee.

No way Jose!! Everything is running very late including all the fruit trees my neighbor has… The Blenheim apricots got clobbered just as they had bloomed by a VERY Heavy downpour of hail.. Over 1 inch fell and stripped most of the flowers off the trees… And oh man are they great Apricots!!

I tell you what’s on my mind tonight: how will Obama’s attempt to attack our safety net play out? I interpret his “willing to lose my Presidency” statement as meaning that he’s willing to risk it on an assault on the New Deal and Medicare, not that’s he willing to risk it by standing up to Repukes. I think he wants their cave-in on taxes to provide cover to his plans to screw us.

Otherwise, hope all are well and enjoying great summers.

My fruit trees got whacked from the same false spring down here — especially apricots, plums, pluots & persimmons. Apples, lemons & orange have alot of fruit this year.

My philosophy on DIY projects is they always take twice as long and/or cost twice as much as anticipated.

I don’t object much to the heat except that it adversely affects the painting process…paint drys too quickly, both in the bucket and in terms of getting a good finish. God I want this project over by Friday. No carryover into the weekend! Argh!

If you have anything except a spanish tile or copper roof, you wanna get those branches cut asap. I saw how much damage tree branches did to the asphalt shingles on my mom’s house. They scrape back and forth in the wind just like a big grinder.
