Led Zeppelin — What Is And What Should Never Be, filmed at the London Weekend Television Studios in London in 1994.
What’s on your mind?
Hiya Suzanne!
evening, Suzzzz … firegourds
Hiya CE
hiya ce! how was your day?
evening ppd — how ya doing tonight?
Zep!
Suz!
Suz !
Hiya CE ! Toronto is in the middle of Summer, BBQs, Frozen Drinks and many multi-cultural Festivals …
Hey! How are you PPDCUS?
Dood !
Hellooooo, Petro
its been a while since we’ve gotten the led out newton — how ya doing tonight?
Ooh, I’m jealous… A Zep Zed…! ;-)
Aloha, Suz, CE, and LLN pups…!
Yea Summer!
Burning up down here. You still getting your Summer on?
petro! sounds wonderful dood — what’s your frozen specialty drink tonight?
CT — kisses, dude!
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight?
Doing well, thanks CE & Suzzz — how’s everything out east and up north?
naw, foggy yesterday — higher foggy today. i’m hopeful that its breaking up — saw a patch of blue sky for a bit late this afternoon – that’s an encouraging sign
some of the portland burbs are 24 degrees cooler today than yesterday — that marine influence turned on the natural air conditioning
you’re getting the Monterey Bay treatment, then Suzzz
Strawberries are in full bloom up here, so it’s Jumbo Strawberry Margaritas coming your way !
Soggy all day…! And the weekend’s forecast is for much the same…! Sunday is the Baby Shower, in a beachfront pavilion…! I’m praying for rays…! *g*
the june gloom but in july
Hello to all, and good night –I’m so sleepy that I must leave. See you this weekend at My FDL.
Since it looks like the shuttle won’t go off later this morning, I can hang with you guys tonight.
Feel bad for Robert though, he was planning on leaving in about 2 hours. Tough call to make if one is driving that distance.
sweet… thanks dood *slurp* mmmm
fingers and toes crossed for a sunny tropical day for the baby shower dood
g’nite ce
hey tuez — i was hoping you would show up and give a weather report. sucks totally about rond — he’s really looking forward to seeing the last shuttle lift off
how ya doing tonight?
Hi Suz, will you please waft some of that nice cool air our way?
The Robert slips into LLNFDL after reading all comments to Jane Hamsher’s “The Breaking Point”.
Dayam is that woman inspiring….
I need to scrape up some more coins to send her….
CT !
Sending +vibes for a clear, sunny day !
hey margot — i’ll be sending ya as much of the cooler foggy air as i can
how hot did ya get today?
yeah Suz, the weather sucks for a shuttle launch, although since the swampy tropics has actually been in a drought…
If the shuttle doesn’t go off later this morning, the first available do-over is Sunday because the NASAs employees have to have x amount of down time and it’s expected it will take them hours to get home from work, so Saturday would be too early. Which is kinda funny, although at least someone treats their employees right.
hey robert — wasn’t that magnificent! i sent it to my mom
how ya doing tonight?
Aloha, Petro…! So the Atlanta Thrashers are headed to Winnipeg…? ;-)
The World Coming for Our Great Grandkids
yikes — iirc rond said he had a room for friday night… a sunday launch will really fork up his plans
{{{{{ Margot }}}}}
Yep, looks like all Atlanta teams eventually head to Canada … *g*
And that’s assuming the weather on Sunday is any better. This time of the year it can be dicey. We get fronts that move in from each coast, so basically the moon, sun, and stars have to all line up right.
Around 90. All the asphalt smelled very asphalty and soft. If I had car A/C I wouldn’t care but I don’t…just plenty of iced coffee.
Wow!
Great vid Suz.
I know Bonham was dead by this time, so I don’t know the drummer?
I’ll assume the bass player is John Paul Jones, lord does that bass carry this tune early on fine work.
N Page, WTF, had he focused on his slide work he mighta been somebody . . .
Mic Jagger.
Roger Daltry.
Robert Plant.
Regardless of style or depth of music, they were giants.
Plant is so good in this it’s sick.
Wow.
Took ME for a ride . . . n I’m TIRED of old rock.
This one was fresh, yer good at this, ya know.
;-)
Heh, only 95F here, today, with light breezes.
What are you whinin about, mid 80′s?
*G*
babe
Oh, yeah, and he said he had tickets, which I think means he has tickets to the viewing area at the Cape. If it doesn’t go off, you don’t get a refund or get to reschedule. Just SOL.
{{{{Petro}}}} so nice to see you!
hey larue — from the comments at utube, It’s Michael Lee (deceased) on drums, Charlie Jones, Plant’s son-in-law, on bass. how’s sac tonight?
Really, if we had mid 80s I’d be inclined to put on my ski jacket.
so the tix are only good for the date on the ticket and if the launch is delayed, he can’t use that same ticket?
Fading here…goodnite!
g’nite margot
I hear you.
My Davis/Rancho Cordova/Sacramento Summers were hotter than the Bay Area, I grant you that. My first year up there, living next to the Davis Community Gardens in ’85 – the average June and July temp was 104…
But gawd, it’s 88 here right now.
It’s great to see you too … I’ll take the infernal heat over the infernal cold any day … *g*
Right.
Although I believe he said he had free tickets, so at least he’s not out anything.
The gloom and doom kept us in the mid-70′s all day here…! ;-)
hiya Margot
Mid 70s. I’d have to turn the damn heat on. Once we start getting in the 90s everyday, which started early this year, we get no relief until the end of September.
It’s no wonder Florida seems insane, we are certifiable by August on a yearly basis.
bring it on home
I still think their first one was the best.
Second one was just so electrically charged as to blow my ass out.
N then they did a few more.
*G*
my mom used to just freeze when she came up to the sf bay area after moving to palm springs from the bay area — she’s really going to freeze when she makes the trip up here from her place in the phoenix burbs.
II is my fav — i have the vinyl
moby dick (with bonham) part one
Okay, the big disappointment of the day, meaning by the time Jane’s post hit I was already fuming, I got an email from Grayson today informing everyone that he wasn’t running for prez because Obama was seeking reelection.
That means he approves of Obama.
He too can kiss my ass.
It’s amazing how fast one acclimates to warm temps. Interestingly, the SE US doesn’t get as hot as the midwest or desert areas, we rarely, if ever, go over 100, but it’s the duration of 90+…..
Whoa!
Not JPJones . . . kewl! Thanks.
Sac’s ok, temps coming down slowly . . . maters not fruiting, a few died.
Basil’s doin fine, I’m lookin for a third seeding, picking some I got for freezing, n transplanting more to full pots from the starter trays.
Salad, salad, salad. Lots of fresh herbs in them for flavor.
I guess, life is as good as I can expect.
Rough day with Mz. Hamsher’s post . . . it took off from what WAPO did yesterday or before, n what ScareCrow n David Dayen posted yesterday.
Not a lot of hope.
But with a lack of hope, the masses can become quite riled.
I really liked and loved Mz. Hamsher coming out like she did on the subject.
It gives hope, ya know. N a lot of Pups chimed in, and suggested not cavin in, but fighting on.
All in all, a bit rousing but depressing.
Love this site, for all of that.
You, LLN Queenie, keep us sane with the music n OT.
Bless ya for that ma’am . . . ;-)
Robert Kennedy made the same kind of disappointing announcement before Johnson, realizing reelection was hopeless, told the nation he had decided not to seek “another term as your president”….
Obama longs to be free of the bubble. Look for history to do what it always does–repeat itself….
I recall yer sorta South Peninsula? 88F is hot. If that’s at night, it’s REALLY phreakin hot . . . where’s that fog comin up over Crystal Springs Reservoir . . . my condolances if ya have no AC, also.
When I lived in San Bruno, up near Skyline, the fog was a player. In Redwood City, along the El Camino corridor, not so much. And those foggy days were great.
That said, it’s hot but not intolerable. Once we get a week of this heat, we get acclimated. It’s nothing like the frying pan you live in.
I don’t know about history repeating itself this time.
I took it to mean the oligarchy had coalesced around Obama. No one on the left has even whispered a primary intention and the right, well, even they know that’s a dog and pony show.
i keep thinking “this is what i switched from r to d for”?
*spitting*
2009?
Incredible!
Ok, gotta do a take back.
Led 2 was incredible.
Lemon Song, Ramble On. N the rockers Whole Lotta Love, etc.
But Lemon N Ramble, were insanely beautiful. As was Livin Lovin Maid, best maniac rock ever!!!
Well, there are others, but this here thread is about Led.
*G*
Pardon me for barging in, but an Obama second term is a close-second (and might actually be preferred) to a Gooper in the White House as far as the Republican Party is concerned. Obama’s first term could not possibly have gone better for the GOP.
Hell, I keep wondering why I’ve always voted for what was best for society, even if it cost me in areas I had no skin in the game, which is most areas, since I never got around to having kids.
Sweet, I have the first vinyl too. Think I have Led 2.
N somewhere in there in that mess of vinyl I’ve not looked at for 20 years or more, is likely Led 4 . . .
My vinyl is more heavily laced with 60′s rock n lots of 60′s n 70′s Doc Watson/grass/new grass . . . .
One of my more prized albums still is Norton’s ‘Livin In The Valley Of The Moon’. I still love that music. Bless him.
Well, now, by the process of elimination, I think I can credibly deduce that the nightly 1:30 AM est attempted attacks by Cycbot Backdoor (blocked by Norton)derived from my nightly viewing of Olbermann’s Countdown thru RTV (which apparently has been shut down). This was the first day I didn’t check out RTV, and the first night of zero Cycbot attacks….
2 was issued right about the time i was ready for led and the blues. of course, at that time, i didn’t realize it was blues… my parents hated 2 as much as they hated my iron butterfly album
yay!
Yeah. They are all assholes, n the one’s that aren’t (both of them) are threatened with their lives and their family’s lives if they want to play the game of getting erected.
I have no further use for any of them.
They don’t represent me, they don’t support we the people, they don’t or won’t fight the system that lands them their positions of power and the luxury that comes with it.
Harumph.
Hmmm, of course this is the first time I’ve used Google Chrome instead of i.e. to attend LLNFDL, too….
Best Rock Drum Solo, Evah.
*G*
My money is on preferred.
I’ll tell you why (and Grayson’s comment only confirms)but won’t link to it since it had no link itself. A couple of days ago some one posted a diary regarding a Marco Rubio interview, in which Rubio, and I’ll paraphrase, said “why would the president say that, that sounds like far left nonsense”.
Sounds to me like Rubio, a toned down teabagger, is calling Obama one of his own.
well, it could also be that… i h-a-t-e ie — its so flippin vulnerable to threats
FOIA request seeks details of Justice Thomas’ jet and yacht travel
A non-partisan watchdog group has filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request in an attempt to determine whether conservative Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas improperly disclosed the use of private jets and a yacht.
Common Cause’s FOIA request (PDF) to the U.S. Marshals Service encompasses travel on seven dates between 2007 and 2010.
“The request is aimed at determining whether Justice Thomas traveled on a plane owned by developer and political activist Harlan Crow on seven occasions over the past four years, and if so, whether those trips were properly disclosed,” the group said in a statement.
Travel records obtained by the Times indicated that Thomas had probably used planes and a yacht owned by Crow.
Common Cause has sent a letter to the American Bar Association urging them to join the FOIA request.

Robert was never the prez.
He was gunned down while running.
Jack never said he was not running.
He too, was gunned down, before ROBERT.
I don’t quite get yer comment . . .
I consider IE to be an STD.
But I also consider Facebook to be an STD.
On chair clapping.
If all it does is make Clarence Thomas squirm, it will be worth it.
Heh, I LIVED in San Mateo from ’63 to ’88.
I know the fog, I know the ECR, I recall that Redwood City had warmer temps than up north of it.
Woodside, too, was always warmer, despite Crystal Springs just near it.
Man, I had some big fun growing up on that peninsula.
N I miss the fog, too . . . ;-)
I know Robert never got to be prez, but, in spite of his followers urging him to run against Johnson, he declined to do so until Eugene McCarthy proved Johnson vulnerable, and, even then, only after Johnson announced he wasn’t reunning again.
Robert Kennedy then entered–late–the race and McCarthy was history….
I like the cheeses that supposedly are made great by that fog.
The President has Democrats bagged, tagged and gagged. So much the better for comity, while he dismantles their party.
McConnell and Boehner are certainly drinking fifty year old Cognac and smoking Cohibas every night at their outrageous good fortune.
I yearn for Nixon.
Sadly, I couldn’t agree more.
nixon aint radical enough for today’s r party — neither is ray-gun
Iron Butterfly!
Heh, everyone knows Innagoddavida, few recall “Flower And Beads”.
N of course, their next work was “Ball”, which I would assume NO ONE’s parents would have approved of then!
*G*
Why doen’t the media explore Eric Cantor’s treasonous hedgefund investments that will make him a few million dollars if the U.S. defaults. That’s why he walked out of negotiations when a deal to increase the debt limit looked imminent.
Thanks for the clarity . . . ‘preciate that.
Because the media hacked his phone and have the same “investments”.
that drum solo was guar-run-teed to get my dad’s jaw clenched as my mother complained it was giving her a headache
a two-fer :)
http://www.salon.com/news/politics/war_room/2011/06/27/eric_cantor_conflict_of_interest
i’ve been wondering for a couple days now… how many cellphones were hacked on this side of the atlantic
ya know that ocean didn’t stop them
Heh, the myth is that the SF fog makes the best sourdough bread in the world . . .
I always bought into it. Still loves me some SF sourdough bread, think Columbo still makes it and delivers here to Sacto.
Makes the best garlic bread . . . MY recipe, of course. ;-)
and is the secret ingredient in anchor steam beer
Yes I know about his investments, which is why I made that comment.
happy lucky 100 robert!!!
Blasphemy!
I hate where we are at, but I will NOT yearn for Nixon!
GRRRR. . . . opening scene to Where The Buffalo Run, with Bill Murray.
NIXON!
GRRR!!!!!!!!!
lol
I don’t have a cell phone, but The Sweety does. I’ll have to email Murdoch and ask him to fill me in….
When growing up in New Jersey, we had some awesome fog. Don’t recall anything good coming of it though:(
hahahahaha
that’s cause it was jersey fog…. that evokes scary thoughts
Yes, but the media spin is that Cantor walked away to weaken Boner, because Cantor wants to be speaker.
Why not the obvious. A few million dollars would be a lot better than being speaker…
Hiya, pups. just home from work – summer night school.
Over the long weekend, Ms ET and I drove over to Valdez with Kelly Walters and went halibut fishing with an old friend. The weather was simply awesome, which made up for the fishing, which was OK by our standards. Back to work, and also our struggle to stop the local gigantic open pit coal mines from happening. We just won a minor victory – a permit denied – so time to ramp it all up.
Exactly. The Sarah Palin version of making politics work.
My folks were much kewler.
You I guess, had a bit of a harder and more conservative time with yer folks.
Ya picked good stuff, tho.
We don’t get to pick our parents.
I often think I and my two siblings were real lucky . . . . I didn’t always feel that way . . . as they were very detached in a way . . . not touchy feely by any means.
But proggy’s both of them, in their time.
Yeah, we were REAL lucky.
It’s simple, Larue —
Yearning for Nixon refers to his resignation to avoid impeachment, conviction & removal from office for betrayal of his oath to preserve, protect & defend the Constitution of the United States.
Truth and Consequences as opposed to Truthiness and No Consequences.
For what it’s worth, that was Jersey fog through and through.
Admittedly, I don’t recall the specifics of the movie, but it always was a Jersey Fog to me.
hey et — what are you teaching in summer school?
He was a crook, a liar, and a paranoid, commie-baiting asshole…
But he did have enough shame left in his quiver to actually resign from office when the shit hit the fan.
Imagine what someone occupying that office since would have done, given similar trouble…
I think he should have been prosecuted, and I wish he would have been jailed. But he had enough humanity to recognize the shame he had brought on himself, his family, the office, and the nation… and he acted accordingly.
i was surprised to read in the utube that it is set in northern forking california… i always thought it was jersey
Well put.
Zombie Bikinis
Really?
In Jersey, it literally rolled in. Quite bizarre.
It was like that sand storm in AZ the other day, but lower to the ground and fog instead of sand.
music appreciation
hiyall!
listenin to the beeb tonight – they’re all over the News of the World shutdown
Zep was a primary influence on this young rocker: couldn’t get enough
Jane’s post today should be read by towncriers across the nation: from hill to dale, from the corner to the mall, from the board room to the soup kitchen.
There are several other posts up that are just as great. Great day at the Lake. Strong messages for advocates to stand up and take it to the streets.
If the brits can take down Murdoch’s plum in the UK, why can’t the ‘mericuns?
we got an am thunderstorm that broke the heat here. Today was muggy but cooler. Perfect for me to work in. Tomorrow will be another.
Aloha, ET…! Best of luck in ramping up the fight…!
Richard Falk posted a most excellent myFDL diary yesterday…! ;-)
I posted a new update earlier… The Flytilla is Being Grounded by El Al And Foreign Carriers…
is what i recall hearing — can’t say whether it is true or not… just that the sf fog was the secret ingredient — just like with the bread which makes sense since both are yeast based…
Halibut.
My fav fish of all time when I was cookin n cheffin.
Still my fav.
N priced outta my range for consumption.
How I Envy U.
*G*
Halibut fillet, grilled, topped with avacodo hollendaise/glacage, n broiled to fluff up the glacage.
One of my best dishes, ever.
*G*
Email for recipe.
lol
hey ks — how’s ks tonight?
Yeah, and them daze are long gone, aint’ they.
Fuck Nixon.
*G*
ha! that would have been a great video to use on lisa’s anniversary of the bikini post…
general, classic or what kinda music?
I’m out of here for the night. It’s been great as usual but it’s late on the right side.
g’nite tuez
For Suz, Iron Butts.
Flowers N Beads.
Yer makin me search here, gal . . . but I have the vinyl.
Can’t believe I can recall Iron Butt and can’t recall what I did yesterday.
lol
nite tuezday
I viewed her video. Hadn’t any idea the bikini debuted in the late 40s. I thought it was a 60s thing.
But every night I thank God for such a blessing to the world….
i so hear that dood — my musical memories seem to be stronger than the others
…every night I thank God for such a blessing to the world….
*heh* And I do every day…! ;-)
Shame?
You think shame made him resign?
Dude, fear made him resign, along with pressure from the corporate folks who put him into office.
He knew what killed Jack, MLK, Robert.
He was told, get out or . . .
Shame had NOTHING to do with it.
He was threatened, pure n simple, n so was his family.
Geez.
I’m good. Tired but good. Tomorrow and hopefully all weekend I’ll be able to work. I won’t be able to spend as much time here as I’d like, but werkin is werkin and that pays them bills. so I smile a little easier :)
hw’bout yerselves?
The first song I remember came out of my uncle’s cabinet radio: “Jingle Bell Rock”….
werkin is a very good thing :)
And sunglasses, so I can look at them bikinis without them knowing I am….
the first ones i recall knowing all the words to were hit the road jack and itsy bitsy teeny weenie yellow polka dot bikini
Yeah, seems the version we recall is a bit different from some others.
He was a scum bucket, and he was outed by his own, who were scum buckets.
Nixon never resigned from a moral point, or any other. THAT SHIT is a fantasy.
He resigned because he was TOLD to do so.
By TPTB.
OR he would have taken a bullet, maybe his family, too.
He was a thug, n so were the folks who backed him, and told him to go away.
Thugs.
Legalised thuggery.
Dr Teller, what kind of music appreciation? For high school, college? I have friends in three continents that do that!!!
Larue, Ramble On remains my fave to this day if I had to pick one song opf theirs and Zep I my fave record hands down … well, the bbc set is super hot…
I loved itsy bitsy teeny weenie yellow polka dot bikini and does your chewing gum hang on the bedpost…..
KS, I wanna camp with yer tribe when the shit hits the fan.
I will cook, my wife can cook and serve, we can both gather and hunt.
Keep us in mind.
It’s lookin ugly.
CT, that article by Dr Falk was really great. Sad at first to see the trolls came out and try to piss all over it. But then I thought, well, if they’re gonna do that at all that would be the topic and if that brings more eyes to it, so be it.
We’re so fortunate to be able to almost fill our freezer every summer with salmon, halibut and other fish, along with local meat and fowl.
Halibut is a delicate ingredient to work with asa chef. Indeed, it has been priced out of this galaxy. Yet, Obama continues to allow the big corporations who make fish sticks out of cheap fish throw overboard to die in agony, more halibut than people actually trying to catch it in its own right are allowed to keep.
dood, chewing gum is a forking ear worm *ack ack*
Hey, we know, us two, BOTH are good!
*G*
College. And to answer you and Suzanne, the course teaches people about the physics of sound, the common elements in all music, and then chronologically looks at Western art music from the beginning of the Middle Ages until the 20th century. Then it expands out into popular genres. I give a helluva one-hour lecture on the history of female hip hop artists.
where u at? we got squirrels and rabbits in this town to last a long while I think. And Women’s rights are shot full of holes here …
but it is flyover country and teh gov, such as it is, can’t afford to wipe their own ass, so other than the abortion nuts and christian fundies, people keep to themselves a lot…
come on down Larue!
We need all the friends we can get!
(:
Yep, I love that song.
It’s the Hobbit N Trilogy for the most part.
N done so well, one cannot dismiss it.
*G*
Well, The Robert’s gotta get some sleep. Gotta get cracking on some stories for the Circle 8 Halloween issue.
Thinking about one where a frightened woman notices the strange man in the parked car across the street has been spying on her for days.
Turns out he’s her great-great-grandson, come visiting from the future….
g’nite robert
wow, i would love to sit in on one of them et
Big ship factories are killin our oceans, we know that.
I envy you for the hallybutt (Monte Python) n all the fish diet hoss.
Thanks for all you do . . . *bows*
I’m thinking of doing my own book on it, for the web, with links to all sorts of www music performance.
tis time for me to turn back into a pumpkin pups. thanks for letting me hang out with ya tonight. hope to see ya tomorrow night for muppets.
g’nite all
i would totally read that dood
*le poof*
{{{bowing back}}}
sounds awesome!
where do I sign?
I’m a zappa nut and more than anything else Frank loved sound. He always claimed to be a composer first and spent his days by his own reckoning listening for sounds – anywhere, anything – and then puttin them down as little dots. All day, every day, if he could. Lyrics for him were just something to trick people who thought they couldn’t listen to music into hearing it anyway.
I could go on and on. I won’t.
Great to hear about what you do!
Oh shit, I’m not sure me n mine could acclimate to what ya described.
We’d likely be run outta town.
;-)
Perhaps there are other options where I don’t hafta play Billy Jack?
*G*
x2!
Sweet dreams, Suz…!
Gotta go Pups, thanks for a great thread Suz.
Heck of a day, from Mz Hamsher’s post forward.
Hug ‘em close, with any luck, we do it again in the morrow.
a couple miles outside of any town can be real mellow…
the thing is though, if one can’t help themeself from tellin other people they are wrong … headed, that can become a problem. BUT, like anything, there’s a time and a place for everything. And think, if the Phelps family can get away with doing what they do – protestin at vet funerals et al – then I think it’s open season on all that.
I’ve always wondered what the future is gonna make of us.
12 Monkeys shook me way down deep. I still can’t shake it.
Just driving by for a couple because I can’t get to sleep :/
Suz I know you’ve gone poof, but I loved the Zep tune. I was a huge Led head back in the day, and saw them once back in ’77. Oh what a night! ;-)
hey ks, whereabouts in ks are ya? My dad’s forbears came from Topeka…
Nice to see ya LL! I’m in Lawrence. A big shiny bright blue dot in a sea of red. We have our own beer, our own bakeries, our own zen center and tai chi and yoga masters, a great food coop plus weekend farmer’s markets, the best basketball, uni, for many states around I think and a history that outstrips much else. HST used to come and visit Bill Burroughs. They’d go shooting together. :)
Nice to see you too! I’ve been to Lawrence but it’s been many a year. Sounds like a great place these days, lots of good attributes as you describe :-)
I’m thinking I’d like to treat my dad to a trip out that way sometime soon. He grew up in KC MO and he hasn’t been back in a while. I know he’d love to have some Gates BBQ again ;-)
Gonna try again to get some sleep, nice to chat with you! Have a good ‘un.
Hey LL – ltns
