Peter Karp and Sue Foley — Treat Me Right.
What’s on your mind?
hey rond — how ya been dood?
Hey RonD — long time no see!
hiya ce! how’s ohio tonight?
Hot, but not too terrible. How is everyone here?
Pretty well…laid off, but I lasted long enough that it shouldn’t hurt too much. Just returned from a night ride on the big Magna. <>
ouch — nice night for a ride?
twas a foggy day at the beach but still got up to the mid 60′s…
About an hour north of me, in Inverness, FL, it’s 87F right now….
i had several days in a row of low to mid 70′s — lotsa sunshine of the non liquid kind :) its currently 57 outside
And we got up to 89 F. Yikes!
Okay, a few days ago, someone posted here he was unable to view You Tube Videos, just gets blank you tube screen. I wasn’t having a problem, then, but today I am having the same problem.
I checked out a help line forum. Apparently some experienced the problem back March 16th. Now a lot of others have reported the sudden problem.
I even downloaded Firefox, figuring it to be an i.e. problem. Firefox didn’t cure the problem either.
Anybody else here experiencing this problem, even know a solution?
the advantage of living on the coast is it rarely gets hot… i start to melt when it hits the mid 80′s… and i am not a nice person when its triple digits.
AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Yo Gramma, hoW’s the little one…better’n havin’ yer own ain’t it??!!! My God, how old is the little ankle biter now, Sister Suz?
Just got back from Lake a the Woods where we didn’t slaughter ‘em but we put a severe woundin’ on the Walleyes, Muskies and Northerns…shit we even caught a couple a perch over a pound apiece. Two Muskies and four Northern between 32-36 inches and limits of Walleye every day with several between 3-4 pounds…but with all the development that’s goin’ on, especially on the Canadian side, I’m afraid what’s left of the wilderness is gone before I take my last breath.
Takin’ the family (kids boyfriends and grand kids) up to Leech Lake for a week startin this Saturday so Mrs. Norske and I have voted already ‘cuz we’re gunna be gone for the primary…watch the results in enate District 10, if the primary total is 125-150% of the total on the recall petitions then we’re rollin’ into the general election.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, THIS IS EVERYBODY’S FIGHT!!
hey robert — right click on the black box and click on the version # (the last on the menu) and it will take ya to the adobe page to make sure you have the current flash version. tis a flash problem, not a firefox one
how was your day?
Nah, no problem here.
It says I have the current version of flash, so that ain’t the problem. Even your video is blank at the top of this page, though the stream add on the right plays very well….
That was me last night. All’s good today. Maybe reboot.
Or download Chrome. I didn’t have a problem using Chrome and Youtube.
hey norske — how ya doing dood? on the 9th she will be 3 months old.. she’s 12 weeks, weighs 12 lbs 3 oz and is 23 inches long. she’s as cute as a bug in a rug — here’s a video taken when her other grandparents were visiting this past weekend. jujube got a little confused about what to eat at the restaurant
One of my best friends just moved from here to there, to E. Oregon University. Other side of the state from you, unfortunately.
hmmm perhaps a no script problem?
hey tuez — how ya doing tonight?
Hey! We should talk. I’m keeping the office hours for the group tomorrow – lotta stuff to catch up on.
eastern side is high desert — it gets very hot in the summer and forking cold in the winter — tis real pretty tho, in that high desert big skies kinda way
What a cutie Suz!!!
hey kelly — how’s denver tonight?
It did work on Chrome, but others in that forum couldn’t get it to work in Chrome.
Its a mystery to me why some begin to have the problem but others don’t, then some of the don’ts are hit with the problem days or weeks later and so on and so on.
Its like this problem gradually creeps, taking so many at a time….
it was taken on a cellphone and the camera was held kadywhompus — that’s mike (her dad) holding her while getting gummed
Script is activated, so that can’t be the problem….
Hey I can load FDL tonight.
And reply button is working too.
Kelly, it occurred to me today, since I joined late, that perhaps most of the group hasn’t added me to their email list. Other than getting mail from you, Mzchief and Glenn, I never get anything and their stuff is so full of “holes” probably from missed emails, that I’m lost.
Okay, not only am I lost, I’m slow.
and you have cleared your cache and tried a reboot?
hey wmd — how ya doing tonight? the tech crew is still working on fixing the glitch with the wrong re-directs.
if anyone has site issues, jane has a post with a form embedded to fill out for bug reporting
Good idea. I’ll reboot now….
She is beautiful!
her personality is starting to show — she’s a good baby but she does have a temper — especially if her mom is on the phone…
Yo missy! A bit wacky! There was storms and shit for a while.
And dammit, a big rock tossed up by NE State Maintenance workers smashed the side window in the van on our drive home from Lincoln today. :( fuckers.
While we were glad there was work for them, and they were mowing the median, we were fucking NOT PLEASED that our window was smashed and had to buy fucking duct tape in York, NE to keep the shit from caving in the next 400 miles.
And I do not use “we” in the royal sense; Belch and I both were fucking pissed off!
The autoglass folks will come and repair tomorrow but it’s maddening.
That is strange. I just figured it was a configuration problem in my own system, although I haven’t “messed” with any important functions recently.
I’ll get you up-to-date tomorrow, whether you like it or not! Heh.
fuck — can you file a claim with the state?
Ironically, I can’t access that thread from Firefox. Couldn’t help but laugh, though I’m sure Jane ain’t laughin’.
try this link — i’ve found that when i’m redirected to another post, i open up fdl and then click on the comments link to that post.
Oh! That is so funny. Oh those babies, what will they do.
All those heavy equipment trucks have signs on them absolving them from damage due to things flying off their trucks.
I had the same thing happen several years ago, although it just put a small crack in the window. However, if I’d been going a fraction of a MPH faster, it would have flown in the driver side window and possibly hit me in the face or eye, so…
its a hoot seeing her show this kind of stuff — i think julianna is gonna give jen a run for her money
First thing I thought. But HOW would I prove it? Ahh, fuck it, the same $100 deductible would be required with the same result – fixed window.
it was the mowing crew, not a truck per kelly’s comment. they are supposed to have equipment that does not throw rocks into traffic
I find that if I’m redirected, all I have to do is ask a second time and I get where I want to go. In the case of Jane’s thread, I get a live book mark/RSS request, that want’s to do its own redirect and I’m locked out.
A lovely night for a ride. When I gave up streetbikes twenty-odd years ago, I never expected to ride again, so I didn’t bother with keeping my bike endorsement on my license. A mistake, that was…I’d forgotten how much fun it is, especially on a bike like this. (not my bike, but one just like it.)
fool me good
Okay, I missed that. At 1:30 in the morning my reading for comprehension skills are suspect and I admit it.
how about when you access it from jane’s diaries (tis the one at the top)
are you going to get the endorsement again?
Ok Suze, ya faked me out.
When I saw the title I was sure it was going to be Susan Tedeschi.
This ain’t too shabby either though.
*shakes fist at sky*
TWO SECONDS! Why not two seconds on yer damn mower guy or me down the road – you know 2 seconds down the road! AAAAARGH!
But we’ll live. Actually, for a split second I thought it was a gunshot. But we’re ok, just pissed off.
hey busted — how ya been dood? *batting eyelashes* i would not want to be predictable */batting eyelashes*
Nope still doesn’t work and you can blame it on Kelly. The RSS feed wants to take me to one of his diaries.
no one hurt and the window can be repaired
my knees would still be shaking
Actually, not funny. Report that on that Jane thread.
Oh yeah-done. You don’t want to get caught riding without it-1st offense is a $1500 fine, and the second offense is a felony. I wasn’t going out till I damn well had it.
Lol, no worries there.
what does this do?
is where tuez keeps trying to go and is getting redirected…
Wow Suz, where did you find Sue Foley?
yikes — that’s a hefty fine
Oh-the other cool thing. I have tickets to the last Shuttle launch on Fri, and a hotel room less than 10 miles away if it’s delayed.
you getting any smoke from the fire in wishram?
hey newton — how was your day? iirc, mr why laid the link to this video in a thread a week or two ago…
i am so jealous
Greetings and warm smiles to all from the Semi-Great Almost-White North .. finally got my FDL membership card today .. so now I am an official left-wing shit disturber, all be it a Canadian version .. great to see ya, Suz .. been dealing with two new ones of my own .. April 24th and May 4th .. both sides of the nuke-you-ler family so who knows what will happen .. they are both girls so in honour I am listening to the Joan Baez – Steve Earle produced album .. so sweet .. /s
Not that I have noticed here in Eugene ;)
That link works for me; Win 7, Firefox 5.whatever it put on my machine this last week.
hey tearloch — aint it grand being an official card carrying member of the professional left?
and congrats, twice even, on the new babes…
crap, i forgot about you being down there
sweet… the randomness is what makes it a bitch to find — trying to find a pattern has been difficult
If it’s not cloudy, I can see ‘em launch from my front yard; but there is nothing on Earth like one of those things from close up.
well then, nice job mr why.
she’s likable on several levels.
day was fine… hotter than blazes.
just watched the Julianna video again…
It wants to take me here:
Kelly Canfield’s myFDL diary » Vladimir Horowitz
susan and derek
Thank you, Ma’am .. am glad all is well with you and yours .. been awful busy and away from any kind of net connection awhile .. doing some community work with isolated native bands .. back to the roots so to speak .. getting on real late just to read LLN .. after everyone is snoozing so I have been keeping up a bit /s
Heading for the Weasel Den tomorrow until Sunday. Gonna go see the wife to be.
We are considering going to the launch too. But we hang out with the masses in the free section.
ok, i’ll let the tech crew know to read this tread to see the problem you were having trying to get to the form post
thanks and i’m sorry i don’t have a solution for ya
give her smooches from me please
Well, it wouldn’t load for a while.
Seems to be a lot of pagead.googlesyndication.com redirect exceptions in the error console on FF5. I wonder if there might be issues with TLS and redirects (I use an unsecure URL with FDL, use secure with google).
The night launches, up close, relatively speaking, are truly spectacular.
It’s projected that there will be over a million people on the roads around the area of the Cape, so I’d leave early. If you’ve never seen one-do not miss it.
No kidding – intermittent behavior is the shitz to try and diagnose; persistent failure is relatively easy.
But frankly, my user gig was deleted prior to the server move. So there is some sort of combo problem as it stands today.
Some little piece of database code is missing from the transfer, but some sort of problem existed prior to the machine move.
Smooches to you too honey.
I do have one, hopefully, bit of info for the tech crew and I do need to email them. Mzchief sent me an email with a link to myFDL that caused the same redirect. It might be easier for them to find the code in an email link than looking through the whole site. Albeit, I know next to nothing about such things, so that is a wild arsed guess.
I’ve been watching them since Apollo-I can’t believe the manned program is really over.
could be some sort of conflict between the word press and the buddy press softwares… of course, i’m not part of the tech crew so take that wild guess with a grain of salt
NO WAY! I can’t even get to any of me diaries!
B e well all .. poker time .. /g
its not the link itself.. its what happens when your machine tries to go to that page.. for some reason, the software at fdl is redirecting you (among others) in a totally random way
you are pc, firefox, right?
happy lucky 100 kelly!!!
I was wondering what the projected crowd would be. For the April launch that was postponed, the crowd was estimated at 750,000. A million doesn’t surprise me.
We live in Orlando though, and know a way to go from the elbow to get to the ass way to get into Titusville that should cut out all traffic but for the last 5 miles.
Howdy Suz, Pups.
Nice vid, good find you n Mr. Why!
Anyone know why all that spam was so rampant today?
I figger it HAS to be a bot thang, don’t it? N how does it register every dif name?
On Jane’s diary about the problems, there were 5 or more!
I wondered out loud if this was a direct attack on the site, and not spam bot stuff . . .
Yes, sadly PC and Firefox.
Well, maybe there is hope.
I used to go to Patrick AFB, where a friend of mine was stationed, and watch ‘em from his roof.
hey larue — how’s sac tonight? glad ya like the video dood — thought you might
My husband has been watching them that long too. As one of the few native Orlandians, or whatever they are called.
thanks. tis part of the info the tech crew is tracking — type of machine and what operating system
Right on. We’re coming from Tampa, and we’re leaving really early. We’re supposed to be there at 7a.
We have the (mis)fortune of being on the return flight path, usually.
Let me tell you, the last one. 2:30 in the morning the double sonic booms shook the house and rattled the windows (I’m assuming as I was sleeping, prior to being so rudely awakened) and the puppy barked for an hour.
NASA should at least keep that shit to daylight hours. Geez.
Wow…! LLN is smoking hot tonite…! Aloha, Suz and LLN pups…! *g*
My alternative route is to take 46, if you are interested.
On edit: Right before 95 there is a country road that parallels 95 into Titusville.
Well, reboot didn’t fix it.
With so many people having the ptoblem, and growing in numbers, it’s got to be a problem with You Tube itself….
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight?
Well, of COURSE there is hope.
See here’s the thing; it depends on what you believe.
I believe that Jane wants all her blog restored, regardless of member status, and that the code guys have orders to restore the blog to it’s full state, and full functionality.
I’m willing to wait a bit, and patiently. I don’t think there’s reason to believe otherwise.
To the people that are freaking out; MELLOW OUT.
Oh man, I remember the first time that happened to me, around twenty years or so ago. Double boom-it scared the shit out of me. I thought a bomb had gone off.
Thanks! I’m deeply interested, and appreciate the info.
A still, muggy evening…! Need some trades a’blowing…! ;-)
I just feel bad that Jane is losing traffic when there have been really, really great diaries lately. Like today. The place rocked.
Sacto, 3 100F+ and 6-7 hi 90′s past ten days.
Night time sleeping is tough, as the ac just don’t cool this place down till 2am or so.
But today was a mite better, and some delta breeze wafted in and out early evening. Got the place down to 75F, it’s 76F outside.
Will sleep good tonite, finally.
Heh, Nate Schierholtz just homered in bottom of 14th inning to win a walkoff for The Giants. Brutal game. SO many runners in scoring position left on base, the GMen’s trademark this year.
So I got that goin for my grins.
fixing the glitch is the top priority for the tech crew
yikes — i do not miss that heat
and yay! i try to root for the m’s but my heart is orange and black
I’m bummed tonite, I should’ve been up top for Subaru Telescope tonite, and Friday nite, but, they’d called late last nite, and put us on hold til further notice, their laser had went down…! 8-(
What’s Subaru Telescope night?
fuck — that blows dood :(
Hopefully this will help. I’ve not had much luck with google map links but I’ll try again.
On edit:take that Carpenter road into Titusville, end up near the causeway bridge; however, that’s not really where you are going.
Okay. Opened up Firedoglake in Google Chrome, and now You Tube vids play…
I guess the problem must be both firefox & I,E, unless You Tube has some recent undisclosed privleged agreement with Chrome….
Subaru Telescope… co-located on Mauna Kea…! The stingy buggers weren’t even providing the standard dinner at Hale Pohaku…! But, pay is pay…!
it worked for me — nice map – i didn’t realize the space center took up so much land… and yet, when i think about it, it doesn’t seem like much land at all given how big spacecraft are
yay! glad you can finally see the video robert
how many telescopes are there up there?
Suz the best thing that NASA ever did was open up that wildlife park the launch pad sits on. Nature lover and photography lover paradise. 180,000 acres (and if Casey Anthony had been “smart” that’s where she’d have dumped her kid).
Suz – just going to ask here and now about the trolls…
So a while back Jane posted that the new Community Moderation policy was starting. That’s fine for MyFDL, as one can flag, and doesn’t even need to SAY one’s flagged a comment.
Or Profiles. I flag the spam PROFILE all the time I see one.
But what about Anson Mitchell or littledom? They post a lot on main pages and you can’t flag their comments, and can only flag their profiles.
They’re truly disruptive assholes. And now, they’re aren’t mod modifications to their comments.
So what’s the plan about that?
Depends how you define ‘telescope’…! Btw, if you read that wiki I just cited…
On 4 July 2011, the telescope operator in Hilo noted an anomaly from the top unit of the telescope. Upon further examination, coolant from the top unit, was found to have leaked over the primary mirror and other parts of the telescope. The damage assessment is ongoing.
so there are areas and times ya can go onto the site and birdwatch? how cool!
that piece of cake persona is really loathsome too.
i don’t know kelly. that would be a great question to leave on the jane post i linked to upthread
Wow, that’s one big refractor!
N I thought the 36 inch one up on Mt. Hamilton (Lick Observatory) was big when I seen it in the mid 70′s!
Sorry to hear of the lost pay AND dinner . . .
BTW, does Subaru mean Pleaides or 7 Sisters in Japanese?
The wiki confused me as to WHY the scope is named Subaru . . .
The only time the wildlife area is closed is 3 days before a launch and until it returns. It’s migratory bird habitat, so in the winter there is lots to see. And all year you can boat, kayak, canoe, fish what have you, throughout the place and commune with dolphins and manatees and less “fuzzy” creatures too. It’s way, way, way better than a zoo. We’ve met people from all over the world there.
oh my. i’m gonna have to add that to my bucket list — thanks tuez
Thanks, I don’t know their reg names, I know POC. A waste of white space every time.
WHo’s the other one?
what’s weird, though, Suzanne, is that there are spam-ads on that Jane post.
I cannot figure why some mod/ed doesn’t clean that crap out. Any ideas?
that’s a myfdl diary so ya have to do the flagging — the more people who flag spam the better.
whoops, where did my manners go — hey dearie — how ya doing tonight?
That Sax guy is not right either.
POC just seems to be on crack.
I seem to do a lot of scrolling anymore . . . ;-)
Better for me n my blood pressure I think, definitely better for the mods!!!
N I thought the 36 inch one…
*heh* There’s plans well under way to build the Mother of all telescopes… A Thirty-Meter Telescope…! ;-)
So there are no moderators reading the threads? And how many flags does a littledorn or other disrupter have to get before someone cuts ‘em off at the pass? And I’m sure I’m not the only one who tries to flag down the spam-ads….but they just seem to stay up forever. People suggest just skipping over them, but you can see that they often disrupt a thread and run real conversation off.
FLAG ‘EM ALL!
N let the devil sort the spam out.
Margaret taught me the profile flag thingy today, felt good!
If our pro Flickr account hadn’t been downgraded, due to funding it being at the bottom of our list of priorities (he’s unemployed), I’d link to a ton of pics, including night shuttle launch pics. My husband has a tendency to upload all the pics we take with no references, so I won’t suggest you wallow through his detritus.
But it’s a cool place, trust me.
i don’t know how many flags it takes — the myfdl editors are the people who would know those kind of answers.
I’m sorry, in my comment I think I said refractor, shoulda been REFLECTOR.
Is this 30 meter a reflector?!?!!??
That’s a huge ass mirror!
Is the Subaru a reflector or refractor? I’d HAFTA think it was a refractor . . . that a HUGE mirror for a reflector!!
Course, I’m only 3 or more decades behind any knowledge of telescopes n all that . . . lol
Ok, I got reflect and refract backasswards, had to look it up.
36″ on Mt. Hamilton is a refractor, straight set of mirrors/lenses.
Reflectors use one or more mirrors and concentrate the image(s) to a single point . . . my bad.
Agreed with your thoughts ma’am, thanks for sharing them.
evening, Suzzzzz …. firegods
i always wanted to see a night launch — figure they are way cooler than daytime (both physically and visually)
hey ppd — how was your day?
Wonderful to have gotten to hang….but fading fast.
Good night, all. The best of all possible tomorrows to you all.
Time for this one to bail out also . . . Suz, sorry for too much chat about the site glitches/trolling on my part . . . I realized it’s tough on you, and puts you on a spot . . . my bad. I should know better, too.
Best to all, hug ‘em close.
My Mom had graduated from Coral Beach HS, because my Grandpa was a quality control inspector for NASA, during the Apollo missions…! He showed me some awesome pics he’d taken during the assembly and launches…! ;-)
not a problem dood — this is the place for ya’ll to talk about what ya wanna talk about and i try to answer what i can about what i know… and say when i don’t know and hopefully refer ya’ll to someone who does know
Trust me a night launch is jaw dropping. The first and last one I went to, 4 years ago, I had both a big bad Nikon DSLR and a weanie Kodak that shot video. I just quit filming and watched. The camera couldn’t begin to follow it. My husband (pro photographer in his last life) continued to photograph but even mentioned later he had to force himself to view it through a view finder. Keeping in mind, the closest one can get (unless one has connections) is 8 miles away.
You’ve done some traveling….
could ya hear and feel the roar?
Thanks for that, Suz. I guess you can tell we trust you to know we aren’t criticizing you….but I, for one, figure you might be able to pass on some of the questions and concerns. You do host a lovely salon. Sweet dreams!
latent, but yes.
thanks dearie — i do try to be helpful and unless someone directly goes after me (like calling me a liar or something), i don’t take much personal
oh crap, forgot to say g’nite dearie
i’m much more aware of sounds at night and figure it must be awesome to hear and see and feel
What’s really fuckin’ annoying is Flickr can’t find me.
I’m still mad that Yahoo took it over.
i’ve not used flickr at all. i’ve got a few photos on picasa, google’s photo site but only because when i upload a photo to my blog, it stores the photo there
pretty good day, thanks Suzzz – how’s everything up north tonight?
tis about time for me to turn back into a pumpkin peeps. thanks for letting me hang out with ya tonight.
Picassa will take over all your photos.
I found myself on Flickr but can’t find the stream to the night shuttle pics. It used to be, that even if your pro account was temporarily shut down, you could see 3 streams. I guess that is no longer the case.
Tho, I’ve been to Cape Kennedy or Canaveral, I’ve never seen a launch live…! I’ve been nearby for live missile fires at White Sands Missile range in NM, and fired a few shoulder-fired Stingers and a few AT-4′s, here and there…! ;-)
Sweet dreams, Suz…!
A couple months ago I was out walking the dog one evening when a missile was launched. It was really cool as it was just at sunset and we were walking east so the sunset turned the contrail various shades of pink and orange. And then it started to sink back to earth (the contrail) in a zig-zag fashion.
Two guys riding their bikes in the opposite direction (we were on a bike/walk/whatever as long as it isn’t motorized path) almost crashed looking at it over their shoulder.
With that said, I’m off to la la land for the night.
Sweet dreams, tuez and all…! *g*
I just quit filming and watched.
I’ve been collecting episodes for some kind of epic poem or oratorio or something, to be called “Your Camera Is Not Ready.” It started for all (and I mean all) of the obvious reasons when I went back to shutterbugging not long ago, but lately has been getting more metaphysical, like your comment.
Even with the now-limited supply of night launches, you did the right thing.
