I am delighted to announce that starting today, Danny Postel will be joining the staff here at FDL as MyFDL Editor and FDL Deputy Editor.
Danny has worked until recently as the Communications Coordinator for the labor group Interfaith Work and Justice, and also as the editor of The Common Review. He been a Contributing Editor at both Daedalus and Logos, and has written for publications like The Nation, The Guardian, the Chicago Tribune, The Washington Post, The Progressive and Mother Jones.
Danny joined us as a guest on the FDL Book Salon to chat about his book The People Reloaded: The Green Movement and the Struggle for Iran’s Future. He brings a fantastic and very welcome international perspective to FDL — in addition to being fluent in Spanish, he is conversant in French and Italian, and no doubt be the only person on the FDL staff who understands Farsi.
It’s been a long search to find just the right person to take the helm of MyFDL, and we are thrilled about Danny joining us. He will be working to bring new and diverse voices to MyFDL as we all join together to build it into an important forum for the exchange of transformational ideas and a powerful platform for community-based grassroots activism.
The wonderful Bill Egnor, who has been filling in as the MyFDL editor for the past few months, is going to be moving into the newly created job of Director of Membership Development and Assistant to the Publisher. Bill will be working closely with me to develop the programs, services and volunteer opportunities that will allow us to better serve our members, and offer them a much more integral way to be a part of FDL. So congratulations to Bill too, and if you have ideas and suggestions for the membership program, you’ll still be able to find him at MyFDL.
Please join me in welcoming Danny Postel to the FDL community.

Welcome!
Bienvenue, Danny. C’est merveilleux de vous avoir ici. :)
Welcome Danny and congrats to Bill.
Great day for FDL.
Hah! 2 years of high-school French two decades ago and I was able to understand that :)
Hola!
Welcome Aboard! Be advised that your offical title over at MyFDL will be “catherder”.
Boxturtle (And telling the difference between regular posters and trolls can sometimes be difficult over there)
Danny welcome.
Glad Bill is staying.
Welcome, Danny. We are happy to have you aboard and look forward to even more great things from our community!
Hey, Bill! Congratulations! Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.
Bravo to Bill and a very big welcome to Danny who brings amazing expertise to the FDL family. We’re very lucky to get him!
My French was 40 years ago. Why does Danny have a box of popsicles in the trunk of his car?
Thanks be to God for your background and new presence among us. So glad you’re now on board, Danny. May your replacement at Interfaith Work and Justice, whoever that may be, serve them well.
And congrats to Bill for your new role. I see the thermometer and its depiction of very slow movement upward with new members. I know that so many of us who love FDL are poor and that’s a factor, but I have faith that we will grow.
Blessings to all
Welcome Danny. Congrats Bill. Good luck to both in your new positions.
Welcome to the Lake, Danny. We will try to be gentle……maybe.
Congratulations, Bill! Welcome, Danny!
Welcome Danny. From one person with Columbia College Chicago in their personal history to another, I wish you the best of luck with myFDL and as FDL Deputy Editor.
Danny Postel… welcome to MyFDL… we hope you like it here. Lots of smart people at FDL.
Welcome see/read you in the near future
Danny, at least I am a good writer and profreeder, so you wont neeed to correct anythin I write!
Me neither. Welcome.
Welcome Danny. As someone once said to HST, “Give em Hell!”
Welcome, Danny Postel! You may not find us brilliant and handsome, but at least you should find us handy. ;o)
Welcome from the Fucking Retarded Hippie Professional Leftists. You will need a Drug Test.
Welcome to the lake. the “Professional Left” gets more professional every day. Sometimes I miss throwing spitballs from the back of the bus, though…
Добро пожаловать!
(Just showing off.)
Welcome aboard, Danny.
Congrats and Welcome.
Looking forward to see what you might think about “Arab Spring” and replicating that energy here.
We’re handy for what?
Recommend front page posters be available to respond to comments to make FDL a “community” rather than leaving the rest of us to talk in a vacuum while the place is run from above.
Welcome Danny to the real re-incarnation of SDS in the internet age (the college version that restarted in 2006 will now be Bill’s – Congrats Bill – problem to get into the FDL fold).
As with the original (yes, some of us oldsters were there at the first meetings in our cities), there is a lot of smarts and a lot of egos and a lot of idealism – fellow that suggested herding cats had it right. Hope you can get the editor recommends section increased in size on the front page!
Bill, good luck on a sales and marketing job that I would look at and feel afraid, feel very afraid, because I have no clue on how sales and marketing is done in this Social Network world – are we Facebbok or Google plus or both material – and why? Man you have my prayers (yes I know you are not into prayers – but you still have them).
Good luck to both of you – and to FDL.
Hey, eCHAN…nice to see you! How are the bees
Doing well.
Weather is great, so just in for a couple of minutes to catch up on news.
Hope you’re well.
Welcome to the FDL community, Danny. Jane wisely did not post via the MyFDL protocol, where replies can nest unnoticed, where embedded links are still as impossible as click-quoting a prior comment in a reply. Hint-hint!
Wisely Jane is trolling the typo/grammar police today: what a guy!
Welcome Danny! Good to see you here.
Jesus that looks like “catheter.” I had to read it a couple times trying to figure out what you meant, boxturtle.
;)
Hi, Danny, and welcome to FDL. I’ve been talking to Jane about a little volunteer gig, so perhaps I will be useful at some point.
Jane, that’s how I read it the first time, too. Boxturtle is on a roll. He said “blowjob” this morning…*G*
Hey Kris! Aren’t you KrisAinTX now?
Welcome Danny & all the best. Good to have you on board.
And thanks to Bill and best with the new position.
Ah! Thanks. That’s my question, too. Are ye & yours in Tejas yet or not, Kris? Good luck with moving & settling in.
Do nae fash the fresh meat unduly :)
While it is a valid point of complaint I am unsure if it’s a good idea to task a new editor with diving into the code base before lunch.
Still, and while the posters of and commenters on myFDL diaries have managed to do some very good work indeed under the constraints that go with myFDL, it can not be denied that these are real constraints and that myFDL diarists and commenters remain… second class citizens :)
I’ll always take them in the spirit they are offered!
d00d! Thanks for referring to the humorous time stamp that MyFDL employs.
Danny’s own intro is over at MyFDL – here.
Welcome aboard, Danny! I ‘spect you’ll be diving right in. Just so you know, the towels are on the deck above the mermaids. Perks they probably didn’t mention.
Merci beaucoup!
I am very touched by this array of warm welcomes and words of encouragement. One correction on Jane’s flattering introduction: my Farsi/Persian is extremely minimal. I wish it were otherwise. One of these days…
Welcome
Welcome.
markfromireland
LOL. I think Suzanne does the diving at LLN.
Hello Dan! Pleasure to meet you!
I agree that front page posters not engaging commenters any more has become a problem, which is one of the reasons why we are promoting a lot more MyFDL diaries these days to the front page.
We are taking steps to address this problem, and bringing Danny on board is one of them. There are other things we are doing in the near future.
If ever a word cried out for a hyphen, it’s cat-herder.
Hi Danny, welcome to the Lake!
Ah, I wuz just Red Green-in’ a little…. ;o)
Welcome, Danny!
Welcome Danny, Congrats to Bill!
