Willard, 6/13/11.
“He didn’t create the recession, but he made it worse and longer,” the former Massachusetts governor said in the second debate of the 2012 election season but the first in which he shared the stage with his fellow Republicans.
Willard, 7/1/11.
“I didn’t say that things are worse,” he [Romney] said.
Willard, yesterday.
Days after denying he had made the inaccurate charge in the past, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney on Monday again said President Obama has made the recession worse.
“Our president has failed us. The recession is deeper because of our president,” Romney told a cheering audience after shaking hands at a July 4th parade, adding, “it has seen an anemic recovery because of our president.”
The economy was contracting as Mr. Obama took office in January 2009. It is now growing slowly.
“He made the recession worse and the recovery more anemic,” Romney told reporters.
At this rate, the GOP is going to have to give Willard two podiums at the next debate.

I had a Mormon co-worker one time who insisted that Herpes was a direct result of the Vietnam war. I had to inform him that herpes has been around for about 2000 years.
hmmm… well, I kinda-sorta agree with Mittens. I DO think that Obama has definitely contributed to the economic recovery – which would have done better with a bigger stimulus & waaay more focus on jobs creation, along with ending all Wars & significantly reducing the MIC budgets – being very weak or slow or however you want to characterize it.
That said, what is Mitten’s “bold recommendation” for improvement in this regard? Lemme guess: MORE tax cuts for the mega-super wealthy, MORE War without End, cut Soc Sec, cut Medicare, cut all social services programs possible, etc etc???
No doubt. Hence: that giant sucking sound you’re hearing is MORE FAIL for flip-flopper Mittens.
C’thulhu would probably actually be the lesser evil in 2012…
It’s always “interesting”, and amusing, to see someone run for president a second time around. Well, maybe it’s not. But I remember Nixon’s second campaign and how “careful” he was not to say the wrong thing. Dear old Mitt seems to be doing the same thing and as the debates continue it should be quite a task for him to keep his positions straight.
He knows he has a LOT of people to MOVE just to get the GOP nomination. and, then to win the election, even more. He’s trying to criticize Obama without alientating his marginal supporters.
Paraphrasing Bill Maher:
It’s as if the Republicans under Bush went on a drunken binge. Spending, spending and saying deficits don’t matter. Then you have a Dem/Obama placed in office and they awaken from their drunken coma, look around and say…
“Look at all this spending. The deficit is huge and killing us. Who did that? It has to stop now!”
I didn’t really mean any of that. Well, maybe some of it. About him being interesting. I didn;t mean to IMPLY he was flip-floppy. Just flexible. Mormons are like that, yeah they are.
They’re going to have to give Mittens two Podiums at the next debate. At least. The GOPers can decide which face they like the best.
Heck of it is, if Mittens could come up with ideas that don’t involve tax cuts or deregulation I might listen to him.
In fairness, if Obama came up with solutions that didn’t involve tax cuts or deregulation I’d listen to him as well.
Boxturtle (as it is, I’m listening to Jethro Tull. Never too old to rocknroll)
What are Mitt’s plans for the economy does he have any numbers? Its easy to criticize but harder to form an actual plan.
What is his stance on job creation? Taxing the rich and ending both wars and using the money to create jobs. Or does he favor less taxes for the rich cuts in SS and Medicare?
What is his stance on defense spending? Mine is twice what China spends and thats it and we use the savings to create jobs.
Just what are Mitt’s ideas…and how do we know he won’t flip flop on anything he says once elected?
The Right fears quite rightly Mitt will flip flop on social issues. The Left has no idea what Mitt will do to create jobs much less why his ideas are better than Obama’s.
And even if we did have good ideas from Mitt well given Mitt’s record how do we know he won’t flip on us?
You need a Spine to win elections and Mitt has none. The sad thing is he is the closest the GOP has to a brain.
Good point. What’s worse, something that eats children or something that allows them to die slowly?
Boxturtle (I’m sure the kids on WIC are really looking forward to their tax cut)
LOL! I’m with you on the Obama listen train. Sheesh! The man can’t lead because he is too busy trying to get Cons–ervaturds and Demo–crates to become one.
There has to be an opposition in a two party legislative battle. So far, he has helped to bring the Dem side over to the nutcase side.
“Just what are Mitt’s ideas…”
1) Lower taxes for the Koch Brothers
2) Less regulation for the Koch Brothers
=
3) Jobs & Widespread Prosperity!
I can’t believe that mitt is the best the inbred Corporate GOP can find to run against Michelle the Fundy GOP candidate. Michelle should win Iowa unless Sarah or Rick Perry split the Fundy vote. Mitt should win New Hampshire.
South Carolina should be Michelle’s but there is talk of Gov Nikki moving the South Carolina Primary to a later date. I think Nikki wants to be Mitt’s VP. Nikki is willing to sacrifice all the jobs an early primary would give her state from out of state volunteers and press coming to her state so I assume she is getting something for it if the state legislature goes along with it.
A later South Carolina Primary denies Michelle an early win.
But Super Tuesday is next Michelle should win the Fundy vote in how many Southern States that day despite Mitt’s expected multi state ad blitz.
Fundy Voters are the majority voters in GOP primaries and in the South even more so.
Is anyone else having trouble with refresh? I keep getting the feedburner page. I’ll send a note to alert the crew. Just wanted to see if I am the only one.
I don’t know the Koch Brothers “personally”, but I’m FOR #3.
He is really running on less taxes for the rich creates jobs despite the polling that shows a majority of Americans favor taxing the rich more?
Despite the fact that if SS and Medicare actually get cut so the rich get tax breaks well the Left should pick up 7-10% support easy and the GOP will be in the high 20% category which is where they were in the worse days of Bush?
Older White Males are the core of the Tea Party cut their kids SS and Medicare benefits to give tax cuts to the rich will demoralize the Tea Baggers more than Michelle and Sarah not wearing short skirts as they scream about hate!
Flagging comments on the Diary threads was not working at all yesterday.
Well, since Obama seems to debate with himself whenever he goes into negotiations, the televised debate might really something to watch. Two people, four debaters: a sock puppet for each hand. Now, if they could only learn ventriloquism, the act might sail.
Steve Benen puts it well, wrt “He made the recession worse and the recovery more anemic.”
Several sources and people with “Magic 8″ balls claim Perry will be entering the race soon. They claim he can attract the Romney people who aren’t “married” to Romney and puul lots of suport from Bachmann.
I’m FROM Texas and I can’t believe even the GOP would nominate another Texan. But, I’ve been known to be wrong before. TWICE
It’s working OK for me.
Poor Mitt – Bless his heart. (Remember what that means in southern speak)
In response to 1) Lower taxes for the Koch Brothers
Lower taxes for the rich created no jobs under 8 years of Bush or 2 years of Obama
2) Less regulation for the Koch Brothers
The Bush years were full of government regulation Bwahahaha! and how many jobs were created?
=
3) Jobs & Widespread Prosperity! sure if we listen to FDR not Neo Hooverism economic ideas.
how does it work? I’ve never been able to refresh here. I have to go out and come back in.
Agreed!
It’s as if he says, I have no sugar left but here is some lemon for your tea.
Replacing the sweet with the sour while nobody asked for it. The same thing the repugs are doing to seniors on the Deficit. We are broke, so we have to take away SS/Medicare benefits.
Will Perry preach hate like Michelle in a short skirt? I think the fundies listen to Michelle because they are to cheap to buy viagra..
But seriously can Perry win over a crowd like Michelle and Sarah can you need to do more than believe all the right things you have to sell it and shake your money maker to get attention.
At the top of your screen click on the up and down arrows, or click F5.
Here are some facts that escape your notice:
1. Obama will be the subject for the election. Does HE deserve four more years? People do not focus on the challenger.
2. The WH and the Democrats believe that Romney is Obama’s greatest threat, which is why The Left is busily trying to drive him down.
3. As soon as Romney asks, “Are you better off now that you were four years ago,” and 60% of the people say no, Obama will be toast.
So, get ready for President Mitt Romney. I am not a big fan of his, but a comatose Howdy Doody would be an improvement over Obama.
Thanks. F5 wasn`t working for me.
YAW! You are welcome!
Depending on your keyboard, hitting the F5 key (usually at the top row of the keyboard) will refresh your screen. So then you can see new comments, etc.
Maybe. I think the fundies listen to Bachmann & Palin bc they love to hear hate preached at them 24/7/365. It’s why most fundies are also addicted to OxyRush & Glenn Beckistan. Hate really “sells” to that crowd.
Setting up two podiums for Mitt would be convenient for the 2012 Prez election if Mitt gets the R nomination. One Mitt could debate campaign Obama and the other could debate President Obama.
Hate AND fear. Never forget fear.
Want to see ‘em REALLY quiver? Plan a gay moslem wedding, with one of the moslems being Mexican immigrant and the other being a clerk at a medical marijuana clinic.
Boxturtle (Boxturtle’s Jobs Program: Clean up force for when wingnut heads explode)
I think he’s doing a great job of this on his own.
Perhaps. But that didn’t work for John Kerry or Al Gore.
Because…?
Because a comatose Howdy Doody wouldn’t do ANYTHING, which would be a lot better than what ObamaLLP is currently doing.
Boxturtle (Doing nothing and letting the Bush tax cuts expire would be an amazing improvement)
1. Obama will be the subject for the election. Does HE deserve four more years? People do not focus on the challenger.
Yes he will but the reason why we dislike Obama no job the GOP is actually worse on the most important issue to voters.
2. The WH and the Democrats believe that Romney is Obama’s greatest threat, which is why The Left is busily trying to drive him down.
The same WH and Dems that thinks Obama’s healthcare plan will win him votes? The same WH and Dems who thinks Gays and Hispanics can be ignored ? The same WH and Dems who thought they were going to win the last election on their record and lost Ted Kennedy’s seat arguably the bluest seat in the country?
As far as tearing Mitt down you want a taste of a real tear down?
Fine Mitt owned and founded Bain Capital how many jobs did they outsource?
If Mitt is such a good business man why did he sell 2 of his 3 mansions when the housing crisis was at its worse nobody buys high and sells low unless creditors are knocking.
Mitt used illegals to cut his lawn fired them then got caught using illegals to cut his lawn again plus he is anti immigrant its real hard to piss off Hispanics and Racists at the same time with the same news story but Mitt pulled it off. Heck I think its a first in American politics.
Trump thinks about getting in the race Mitt goes down, Rudy briefly does the same Mitt goes down conclusion Mitt’s support is softer than Mitt’s spine.
Can Mitt even carry his home state? I remember the good old days when Presidential candidates were not called serious unless they could carry their own state in a general election.
Never mind carry their own state against a President with $4 a gallon gas and 9% unemployment Looking at the polls today Obama can win reelection he would be the first President ever to do so with gas and unemployment numbers this high.
I am on strike actually from researching the GOP until they get a serious challenge to Obama what I just wrote is the fluff in my sock drawer.
If Mitt were a threat I would have links, numbers, and a bunch more research.
BT’s post is just light humor trust me the last thing Mitt wants is for us to take a serious look at Mitt.
Ask Trent Lott he said Strom Thurmond was right ( we new he meant about segregation ) the Lefty blogs knocked him out of office. Ex Sen George Allen talked about at the time as a Presidential contender until he said Macaca the Lefty blogs took him out.
Who do you think convinced a majority of Americans to want to end both wars? tax the rich more, save SS and Medicare hint it was not the Main Stream Media. Who do you think got a Black Man a win in Iowa a 90% + White state? Sure Obama lied to us but we chose him over Edwards and Denise and he won. Obama can have all the political organization in the world that won him the Presidency and he can lose Ted Kennedy’s Senate seat if the Lefty Blogs are pissed
We are King Makers and Leg Breakers.
Mittens put his foot in his mouth? Whodathunkit.
I would expect nothing less. I’m sure we all remember how many times McCain contradicted himself in ’08. Or how many times Shrub contradicted himself over the years.
This is standard fare for Rethuglican politicians. They say what the crowd in front of them at that moment wants to hear. When confronted with their OWN contrary opinions ON TAPE they spin away from the facts and weave a fantastical web of bullshit to explain their change in position while still maintaining that they never changed position.
Adrenaline addiction and sex are complimentary you can be hooked on both:)

My bold ( I just threw up in my mouth a bit reading this again) Some people do get excited when Sarah and I am sure Michelle speaks.
Michelle and Sarah are below the category of I would be ashamed to have my friends see us together even if it was last call and I was wasted.
Politicians are liars. So sick of all of these jokers, Obama included.
3. As soon as Romney asks, “Are you better off now that you were four years ago,” and 60% of the people say no, Obama will be toast.
True if only Mitt or any GOPer had a plan to create jobs which is the biggest issue to voters that voters could believe.
Mitt’s problem is that even if he got a plan nobody would believe he would not flip flop on it faster than he rehired the Mexican illegals he fired who were cutting his lawn when the press went away.
Right. The follow-up question to that hypothetical is, “How do you intend to fix it” and Willard’s answer will be Teabagger boilerplate.
I’m not sure people will buy it, but it’s certainly possible. That’s a long way from “toast.”
Someone sent me a joke the other day . . . and it took me awhile (sorry, I’m slow) to “get it.” [Then, again, maybe it wasn't a joke.] It said: 20% of Republicans won’t vote for a Mormon . . . what a difference an ‘M’ makes.” {I think the take-away is that 100% of the Republicans were more than happy to vote for a Moron–TWICE.}
Tea Bagger boiler plate is tax cuts for the rich paid for by cuts in SS and Medicare I am sure the older White Male Tea Bagger core will not want their kid’s benefits cut BT :)
Mitt could have won the general election with his record as Governor if he only stood by his record as Governor.
Agree on all of your points.
I *see* clearly how both Bachmann & Palin use their sexuality to “grab” men and/or gain attention. That same use of sexuality works in a similar but different way with women, too… not so much that women wish to have sex with Bachmann or Palin (although some probably do but don’t want to admit it), but bc it’s a big cultural norm to use female sexuality (mostly, although using male sexuality in the same way is becoming, uh, bigger these days) to “sell” anything to anyone, from cars, beer, clothes, as well as politicians.
I think that’s yet another reason why *some* on the left disliked Palin so much… bc she was so very very keen & eager to use her sexuality (in a very disingenuous way) to “sell” herself to the masses. Very anti-feminist, frankly, but it goes hand-in-glove with typical T-GOPer memes about how “ugly” some leftwing women are (no matter how smart & qualified), such as Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Janet Reno, etc. Rightwingers, including women (I’ve heard them say it) “get off” on dissing ugly leftwing women, as if that’s some kind of a disqualifier.
And so on…
Which is why when I witnessed Palin for the very first time, I was “on” to her schtick within 30 seconds… and knew it would work as far as T-GOPers were concerned, whether male or female. Bachmann promotes a similarly sexy image of herself, whilst also (mis)quoting the Bible incessantly.
heh… albeit, I’d estimate that 20% who won’t vote for a Mormon is a low-ball est. I’d put it closer to 27 – 30%… the usual suspects in other words.
Exactly. I’ll wait to see what Mittens is actually “offering” as intended “solutions”… not that Mittens, should he be elected, will do one d*mn thing differently from what Obama is doing today.
IMO, this all Kabuki show, and whoever gets elected/deemed POTUS in 2012 will do more of the same of what we’re seeing now. JMHO, of course.
You’re assuming Tea Party members use logic in their decision-making. They do not connect the dots if those dots lead to blaming one of their chosen “Us” for ANYTHING.
It’s one of Obama’s strategies to have Mittens debate himself. The joke is on us – Mittens’ mirror image is Obama.
We are ungovernable and it is mostly the result of the failed policies of Republicans and mostly mirror image policies of Dems repeating the same.
Obama reinforces conservative worldview. Occasionally he’ll throw libs a bone but he sends someone out to take it back pretty damn quick or he’ll cautiously remind people his bark is worse than his bite. It’s not going out on a limb to say the Obama brand will be back to focusing on good morning, America even while many of us all are suffering and lights going out on our jobs, homes, health, and futures while both Parties sell us as debt slaves to the highest bidders.
Who can do the most damage to Dems? Think an R President will do more damage to getting out the message people next to never hear and I believe are hungry for – liberal values, principles, solutions for recovery even if we really can’t use the word liberal? Hell, the neolibs have destroyed liberalism. Obama kicks down at us, the people who worked to get him elected even if many of you wisely were suspicious or outright knew he was a snake. Obama revived R’s not just by being a placeholder puppet D President, but because he reinforced their worldview, doubled down on many of their policies, created more of the same – death, debt to wall street and other oligarchs, and more drill baby drill.
Can Romney do more damage to Dems than Obama has?
Rather I think we need Republicans to be steered back on track and I suspect we are going to need another Republican President before we even get a shot at putting the economy and our nation’s future back on track.
Romney may be a likely frontrunner but it isn’t a sure thing. Tear him down at every opportunity and watch Obama lose to whoever is holding that nomination if it’s true that Obama really doesn’t care if he is re-elected.
Romney can’t be opportunistic? Did he as governor respond to public pressure? What are the best examples of Mittens betraying the trust people put in him?
No one will fail us like Obama, just wait and see. Dems won’t do dick about the SCOTUS because you all know it is Obama’s insurance policy for the persuadable or just plain scared people who call themselves Dems.
Sorry for the delay. Perry is very good at what he does, regardless what he wears. He looks good and, like most republicans, can talk out of both sides of his mouth and yet still say nothing substantive.
I and many knowledgable political analysts feel he can very much win over the Bachmann and Palin crowds, the Huckabee contingent, and some Romney people who are “wishy-washy” about Romney and his religion. Is that enough to win the nomination??????
I think you are correct, more like 27-30%. None of the “religious right” will vote for Romney provided ANY other republican is running against him. Would they vote for Romney, a white republican against a black democrat??? My “Magic 8 Ball” says……….”Check back later”.
I think he can steal Mitt’s votes but Michelle can deliver a crowd with Hate. Can Perry give a good Hate Speech is the question?
This might explain Sarah’s negatives the Left does not like feeling manipulated. Interesting.
