The Four Tops — Standing In The Shadows Of Love, March 15, 1967, Belgium.
What’s on your mind?
God-Damn, Tops. Very, very nice.
hey newton — how’s the west bay tonight?
Boiling hot, just great. How’s it up there?
summer finally arrived this weekend — and has stuck around (so far — knocking on wood). been enjoying the non-liquid sunshine
Speaking of Tops & Temps…
On all our trips to Europe, and living there especially, we know that American music is the cultural bond. They love it like we do. In 1979, we watched French people in bars sing all the lyrics in English, yet not speak the language. Amazing. Hiya Suzanne!
isn’t that a great clip? i believe i featured it up top a year or so ago… so many greats all on one stage
The Robert strolls into LLNFDL with milk & oatmeal raisen cookies….
hey ce — so, dish gal — how was the trip? what was the best part? the worst? didja take pictures?
hey robert — how’s soPA tonight?
Puts dancing shoes on…
evening, Suzzzz — firegods
hey ppd — how was your day?
Hey newt – sing with me!
Is anyone else using Firefox and only getting a black box rather than the vid?
evening, CE — how was your 4th?
hey tuez — how was your day? i’m using firefox 5.0 and the video shows fine — is your flash player up to date? try clicking on the name of the song in the post and see if it works there
I’m only getting a black box on Youtube too :(
After all that endless rain in May & into much of June, ‘Little Alabama’ farmers are praying for rain.
We’re all dried up now and need what we bitched about only that short time ago….
Aloha, Suz and LLN pups…! ;-)
Seeing as how the US has left indelible marks on the planet, not all of them pleasant, it’s cool to know that we also left a lot of Pop and Top 40, and nearly all the Soul music ever written.
It makes up for Dave Matthews.
Best part — Shakespeare’s “Much Ado about Nothing” at the Globe Theatre and walking over the Millenium (sp?) Bridge. Worst part — flying United disguised as Continental. Pics, coming to a day soon (MrCE has them slowly showing up).
Now that I think about it, maybe Flash wanted to update in the last day or two and I decided it didn’t need to.
Guess I was wrong.
Great, Suzzz — how’s everything with your family?
Hey I like Dave Matthews. Have you ever seen them in concert? Way, way more energy then an album would suggest.
Really, they all LOVE American music. It is the international language of friendship.
this is the link for making your flash player up to date current version is 10,3,181,26
I’m using FF5 and I’m seeing an early B&W clip, but, not a vacant black box…!
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight?
Just dropping in for a moment before bed.
The monsoon pattern has set up right on time, July 5th. I didn’t get rain today, but drove through some on the way to yoga. One of the guys there has a hay field near the next canyon south. He cut hay today, of course, and it rained on it. Seems like he should have known better.
A few clouds, humidity soared into double digits, and there were occasional cool breezes. It’s about 10 degrees cooler than yesterday.
A quick Kerouac quote:
“All is well, practice kindness, heaven is nigh.”
I might change that to:
“All is well, practice kindness, satori is imminent.”
Before enlightenment, cutting wood and hauling water.
After enlightenment, cutting wood and hauling water.
Good night. Be good to one another.
The striking thing about that track was the one person who screamed on occasion, and how screaming people took all the fun out of being the Beatles
Comfortable, sunny weather here in Redmond, WA. Late celebrators are blowing off the last of this year’s fireworks, whose reports echo off the hill across the way, punctuating the sounds of automobiles, near and far.
I will admit that part of my prejudice is that the former actual (and final) Rock station in the Bay Area just threw up it’s hands one day and went with Dave Matthews and Nora Jones and such. There’s only so much of it you can take.
yay — and boo hiss boo
Hey PPDCUS! Spent in airplanes, Newark Airport, finally home by 8:00 p.m. Boo hoo, missed all celebrations.
doing good. julianna is 12 lbs 3 oz and is up to 23″ long now
Are ya sure…? I went to an Adobe ‘not available’ page, Suz…?
I get an attitude about updates, want to make sure they don’t cause more problems then they are worth first. Of course that backfires on me from time to time.
Once I updated Adblock and couldn’t access google maps for a few months, really pissed me off.
hey dave — always a pleasure to see your fonts — and g’nite
Ah, I understand completely. Thank god for ipods.
Interestingly, when I saw Dave Matthews, and it’s been like 15 years ago, the warm up band was Soul Coughing.
crap, right click in a utube on the menu that pops up click on the version # and it will take you to the adobe page
that’s how i got there
hiys CT – how’z everything in paradise?
12 pounds! That is amazing. Sleeping through the night yet?
hey brione — how ya doing tonight? i watched the lake union fireworks on nwcn from my perch here on the oregon coast. was a fine day here (and i’ve also hearing residual booms tonight)
yup. she sleeps in until around 730ish or so…. has her last feeding around midnight — still hasn’t been intro’d to solid foods yet
*heh* Well past all the melons, eh Suz…? ;-)
Today, I’d walked past about 20-30 of our local inmates sweeping up all along Banyan Drive and the Bayfront area…! Each one I’d made eye contact with, I’d thanked…! ;-)
That is wonderful. Stay away from solids as long as possible! Oh, it seems like yesterday.
she’s approaching turkey :) the inmate crews do a lotta work in the state parks systems, clearing trails, etc. my former downstairs neighbor, the ranger, talked a lot about how hard working they were
Hey, I love Soul Coughing.
its the same
yikes! not the best way to celebrate John Quincy Adam’s life long opposition to Obamacare, eh?
Working fine for me with Flash 10.2.x Mac OS 10.6.8, FF 5.
Sigh, I loved all of this — I was a dancing fool. Came of age in 1968 due to an older brother that graduated from hs in 1968. He played in a band in Philadelphia and local Wilmington. It was great.
hey wmd — how ya doing tonight?
I think my problem is the latest adblock update is not recognizing the latest flash. Figures.
Anyway, happy summer holiday Firepups. The real lesson we learned in Britain is that their govt. wants to institute American style health care, and disable the NHS. People are crushed there.
I’m well. Busy. Looking forward to a new hire starting next week, interviewed another candidate today.
iirc adblock had an update last week…. i’ve not had any problems with adblock nor utube
wow, tis good that your employer is hiring wmd.
I think adblock installed another on my computer today, or maybe it was noscript. I’m allowing all scripts but it’s still not allowing something.
My husband needs a job. What are you looking for? He has it in his head he needs a 7k camera. I told him he better find 3 jobs, although I’d settle for 1.
didja make sure you didn’t accidentally ‘block this’ on a utube?
We’re actually having trouble finding people.
FF5 isn’t liking the Reply link here. Error console message is

love the troggs! altho, now i think of that charlie sheen baseball movie when i hear that song…
there’s been a glitch lately that has been redirecting folks when they click on a link (or refresh a page) that goes to a different page. the tech crew has been working trying to fix the glitch
I just refreshed and got sent to a prop8 thread and the formatting of the whole page was weird.
It’s strange though how random the glitch is, tonight is the first time I’ve run across it today.
i hope the tech guys figure it out soon. tis very frustrating
I must go, it is almost 1:45 am and work is waiting. See you soon!
That was played a lot around where I grew up. Great song!
hey margot — how ya doing tonight?
My older brother was in a band that played this over and over. We loved it! Nighters!
I could even sing the lyrics to “Hartford Hereford ad Hampshire” without leave… goodnight.
Wow, Arizona is just getting hammered.
my mom is in surprise (a burb) and i saw bmaz’s tweet earlier about the dust storm hitting him… wow
Hi Suz, just great now that I’m listening to good songs. But I’m fading fast.
Aloha, Margot…! ;-)
Welcome to Hell.
Too bad Senator James ‘Ignorant Asshole & Global Warming Denier On Behalf Of All Industry’ Inhofe wasn’t visiting at the time.
tis late there…. are you on eastern time?
OK now I just tried to reply and got redirected to this: http://feeds.feedburner.com/firedoglake/fdl#Respond
Are the fires still burning in AZ as well? I’m assuming so.
yes, Eastern time zone here. Goodnight!
I’m in Orlando. We have our own special hell and it even includes Casey Anthony.
On edit: If Rick Scott weren’t bad enough.
G’nite to you.
i feel for ya — i remember the scott peterson trial and its impact on redwood city…
Yeah, the pain quotient in that business only goes up. hard to believe.
I’ve ignored it to the extent possible but the sis-in-law had to call today to inform us the verdict was about to be read. Then some apologist showed up here today, who was smacked down pretty quick but still, there is a big difference between being found not guilty by a jury and being innocent.
Nobody just loses a fuckin’ 2 year old.
ruth buzzi tweeted earlier: The good news is she has a date this weekend with Joran van der Sloot.
FUCK i fucking hate fucking m-word days (its my m-word day dammit)
*heh* I honestly tried to save your bacon, M’dear…! ;-)
Thanks, Suz, for the memories. Loved all that doo-wop stuff and have lots on my computer. The Crystals, Dell Vikings, The Edsels, etc. Love to sing along. Neighbors properly someone is being tortured.
What’s really remarkable is that in a state with alligators and pythons, she could have easily permanently “disappeared” her kid.
the whole day has felt off today — i kept thinking it was monday and not tuesday this afternoon
hey twain — how ya doing tonight? glad you are liking the tunes :)
Well you are in for a pleasant surprise come Friday.
i hope so… but my friday is saturday so maybe i’ll be pleasantly surprised both days :)
Love this one. Danced to so much of this wonderful music.
glad you liked it :) you are up late tonight — don’t often see ya at lln
I had a ‘Monday’ moment today, when the bus pulled up and I suddenly remembered that I now needed a buck to get on(eff. Jul.1st), in which, I only had a $10 bill on me…! D’oh…! Hence my stroll along the Bayfront…! ;-)
Got hungry. Had some watermelon. Yuuuum.
i was in town at the safeway getting a few things and the cashier kept knocking stuff off of around her cash register. she musta knocked stuff off 3 times, including one time when she was trying to put back her kleenex box she had knocked off a minute before…
not warm enough up here for watermelon yet. although it did hit 86 in portland today. i got up to 74 which is barefoot around the house temps
Speaking of grocery stores.
I got brave and ventured into an Aldi’s a couple weeks ago. Bought a fair representation of stuff, including a couple steaks that we haven’t eaten, but I’ve been happy with their store brands, which is pretty much all they have, and which I gravitate to in other stores.
In case anyone else was wondering.
i have only two choices – both in tillamook. safeway and fred meyer. i was only picking up a few things so i went to safeway which is closer. i really miss the ben lomond market down in the santa cruz mts — fresh fresh local produce and a real meat market with local meat clearly identified. it was the best grocery store i’ve ever shopped at.
Hilo has a Safeway, but, our local Island grocery chains have better prices and even better beef, being local Big Isle grass-fed cattle…! ;-)
there’s not much difference between either store — both have savings/rewards cards. fred meyer is in the far north of town and safeway is in the middle of town on the same road i take coming into town from the west — if i’m stocking up, i tend to go to fred which has better meat and somewhat better produce but if i just need dog treats like today, i hit safeway.
Suz, I’m out for the night.
I’d love to have “real” markets in this country but it ain’t gonna happen. The markets in Paris or even the grocery stores in Australia. I’d take either.
Aloha, tuez and Suz…! I’ll head out too, Sweet dreams ya’ll…! *g*
tis about time for me to fade out myself… thanks for letting me hang out with ya tonight
