Homeowners facing foreclosure can now tap into a $1 billion program of emergency loans to help tide them over a temporary financial crisis, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced on June 20th.
Homeowners in 27 states can file preliminary applications for the Emergency Homeowner’s Loan Program (EHLP). Eligible homeowners can obtain interest-free loans of up to $50,000 to help cover mortgage expenses for up to two years.
The program is available to homeowners who have seen their incomes fall and who could lose their homes to foreclosure due to circumstances beyond their control, including involuntary unemployment, underemployment, economic conditions or an illness.
The new initiative is expected to provide assistance to up to 30,000 homeowners, with loans averaging $35,000 each. Loans may be used to pay a portion of monthly mortgage bills, including missed mortgage payments or past due charges including principal, interest, taxes, insurances, and attorney fees.
Homeowners seeking assistance must complete a pre-application screening workshop by July 22 in order to be considered for the program. As demand is expected to exceed the amount of funding available, qualifying homeowners will be chosen at random to complete the application process.
More information on the program, including links to the pre-application worksheet, are available on the NeighborWorks web site at http://www.nw.org/network/foreclosure/nfmcp/EHLPconsumers.asp. NeighborWorks is partnering with HUD to carry out the program.
States served by the program are Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Hawaii, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. EHLP is also offered in Puerto Rico.
In addition, the five states of Connecticut, Delaware, Idaho, Maryland and Pennsylvania have established their own anti-foreclosure programs that are similar to EHLP and are receiving funds through the EHLP program. Residents of those states may apply for assistance through their state housing agency or similar agency.

Doing fine, just got home from watching a local rodeo. Twas very good. Have CTuttles post on the flotilla open in another window, so I’m just catching up on that news. Thanks for the post, CT. Disheartening news, though.
One of our fine exports. Hey Hey My My.
I posted that HUD oportunity hoping somebody here could use the info, or pass it on to those in their circles who may need such help.
I came across this info today; yet the funds have been available since June 20th. Not a peep about it in the media….
sounds like a great day dood…
I’m totally bummed with the Greeks right now…! The home front is fine, especially since I might be be working a few nights next week for an Observatory I’ve never worked for, Subaru Telescope…
can ya drop a copy of that comment in dday’s roundup post — he’s been covering the housing issues and i know he would be interested in it
Paul Krugman forgives Canada.
My condolences, ThatGuy…! *g*

Motherfucker Israelis. And Greek government collaborators.
Condolences, ThatGuy.

I’ve been crying off and on all day, and he’s not leaving us til Sunday morning…but he’s always been such a force of nature – it kills me to see him trying to get his breath, (lung cancer).
Anyone who tells me “it’s only a cat” going to be in the hospital.
oh thatguy — i know you had said earlier this week ya thought it was a respiratory infection… i’m so sorry that was the diagnosis.
Good night folks. Enjoy the fireworks.
shakura
g’nite mr why
Well, that must be the root or reason why someone ripped off my SS number and drivers license copy by stealing a file with my stuff in it. From the county, no less.!
WTF!
So I got even by fixing Chicken Cacciatore with an Asparagus Risotto, finished off with Root Beer Float Ice Cream!
Fuckers ain’t gonna get me down!
I just listened to her sing that on YouTube.
Wow!

Truly sorry to hear about Nipper, That Guy. He’s a cute one, what a sweet face! Our house has lost a few, it’s always hard to go through it, every time. Sending kindred thoughts your way.
Thanks for that, very cool jam. Those two are def in sync.
dual birthday/july 4th
hey robert alexander — how ya doing tonight?
DUH!
I am so off my mark today. I’m glad I actually got dinner right. Went to Freddies to pick up a prescription then promptly left it there! Rear tire hit the curb on the way home. Then spent a half hour looking for a hard drive for my computer which I “Knew” where it was. And guess what? That’s where it was!
Grrrrr!
Then I downed some wine.
There goes all my trials and tribulations,
Sinking in a gentle pool of wine (or whine?)

yikes! that’s the kinda day i always blame on my being double irish — the kinda day where i figure i should just say indoors and hunker down until its tomorrow…
Moma Said There’d Be Days Like this

Well, got up at 4AM, checked the internet, went back to bed for an hour so I think I am gonna climb under the covers.
Let you know about Edgefied tomorrow night!
NiteAll!
g’nite starbuck
Take heart. It never stays that way.
Things will look better in the morning after a good night’s rest….
Thanks. Give a good thought to a stubborn ol’ bastard as he heads to the Rainbow Bridge on Sunday morning.
Bummer. Time to indulge the hell out of him.
I hate this part.
hey opehope — how was your day today?
Manuela Labor, and fucking proud of it! I’ve waged an epic war against the European Black Slug these last 3 weeks.
I claim Victory! With a shovel and a squirt bottle of ammonia/water I have vanquished the invasive, freaky massive hordes. I literally had to step on groups of 10 – 20 slugs as I walked the garden turning them back into slime with my magic water. Which also gives the plants a nitrogen boost through their leaves, like B 12 shots in humans, only different.
I’ve never seen anything like it in 22 years of Northwest gardening.
Hey, Suz, is it my computer, which has been kinda hinky, or did everyone drift off?
holy moly openhope … i’ve noticed that i’ve not had the trouble with slugs trying to crawl in under the kitchen door this year… did they all move north?
I’m here, because I’m kind of technically incapable of drifting off. :]
Well, I haven’t had slugs, but the snails have been multi-generational and very active.
And, as we near the end of this delightful summer evening, I bid you & Suzanne a good good-night.
Enjoy a wonderful weekend.
its been a quite holiday nite here at the lake… i think a lotta folks made plans for their celebrations — my landlady was headed back to portland tonight and said there were literally hundreds of cars headed toward the beach on her way over the coast coast range
g’nite dearie
I wish I would have filmed it. You know how some mud collects on your shoe and builds into a platform? Well, I had to keep knocking those “platforms” of slugs off just to walk. Almost no native banana slugs. They’re docile and don’t eat the core of the plant so it can recover. I time my genocide so I can collect them and relocate. They’re not night owls.
The Black Euros will kill them. Or rape them, actually.
I think I know too much about slugs.
Good night, Dearie.
you are a wealth of knowledge openhope — i learn from you every time you are here
Good night,all.
When I’m battling European Black slugs that aren’t indigenous to our area, and they’re consuming faster than I can kill them……………..I think about the Koch Family, the Rockefeller family, the Bush family. Because dealing face-to-face with slugs will bring up these types of thoughts.
Sweet dreams
g’nite openhope
tis about time for me to head off myself. thanks for letting me hang out with ya tonight, peeps, and hope to see ya tomorrow night for cartoons.
g’nite all
Good morning, pups. Gail Collins is on book leave, and Mr. Blow and Mr. Nocera are off, so Mr. Kristof is flying solo. He’s in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso and sends us “An African Adventure, and a Revelation” from this weekend’s Sunday Review. He says an American student and teacher discover that economies are growing, more girls are in school and gains are being made in nutrition. (Don’t ask me why the Sunday Review is here on Saturday, giving us a piece that was allegedly published yesterday. The Times stopped making any real sense to me years ago.)
Here he is.
The coffee and tea are ready, the cold drinks are in the fridge, and I’ve got baked eggs with tomato and basil for breakfast. I’m drowning in work, so I’m off to start chipping away at it. Have a great day.
