Jones argument about wasting money in pointless wars has broad applicability. It applies to Iraq, where extending our military presence would just cause a mass uprising, collapse the government and put US troops at grave risk (imagine the sad spectacle of five US deaths today in a rocket attack on an operating base being multiplied many times over). It applies to Libya, where Sen. Richard Lugar, who’s moving to the right on most other matters to stave off a Tea Party primary challenge, felt comfortable to write an op-ed castigating the President for denying Constitutional principles in seeking a rubber stamp to continuing military operations. That’s very much in the vein of the isolationist, Jones-ian impulse, rather than the neocons who put together the Senate resolution of approval for the conflict in Libya, which Lugar wants canceled.

- Isn’t David Vitter still in the Senate?
- Taking stock of ten years of the Bush tax cuts.

• Ron Paul still has the ability to raise lots of cash, especially if he rips Mitt Romney in the process.
• Frank Gaffney for President would be hysterical.

Scarecrow Awakens: Austan Goolsbee To Go *Poof!* |
| By: Scarecrow Monday June 6, 2011 7:15 pm |
Why become the front for a team that remains committed to failed policies that may very likely take the economy down with them? And when a Nobel laureate has to tell the White House via the New York Times that he’s withdrawing his nomination to the Federal Reserve, it’s pretty clear the communication between the President and the economic team is not what it should be.
So it’s easy to see why Goolsbee might believe there was no point in staying.
Goldman Sells Off Servicing Unit |

I know it’s hard to believe, but Goldman Sachs is in some trouble. They may not ultimately see indictments of their executives or massive forced payouts of a large chunk of their profits. But the well-researched, well-described Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations report, which partially covered Goldman’s lies to their clients and to Congress, could have serious consequences for the firm.
FDL Movie Night: Save the Farm |
| By: Lisa Derrick Monday June 6, 2011 5:00 pm |
Director Michael Kuehnert’s award winning film Save the Farm jumps into the center of the battle to save the country’s largest urban farm, the 14 acre South Central Farm in the weeks leading up the farmers’ eviction.
Developed on an empty lot which was later bought by the City of Los Angeles under eminent domain and mitigated to the community after the Rodney King riots, the South Central Farm was a community venture with 350 farmers growing their own organic crops for food or for sale at the weekly farmer’s market on the land. But the lot’s previous owner, developer Ralph Horowitz claimed the city had violated a clause in the sale, and sued to get the property back. Three courts threw out his suit, but in 2004 Horowitz prevailed and bought back the property for $5 million, and claimed he had a buyer willing to pay $16.3 millions.

In a reversal from the “debt denial” stance of an increasing number of Republicans, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor told ABC News he doesn’t question the notion that August 2 represents a deadline for the nation to increase its debt limit.
