Pictured: Andrew Cuomo, as imagined by K-Lo.
You just knew after the historic events in New York on Friday night that there would be some truly deliciously unhinged wingnuttery coming from William F. Buckley’s old place. After all, under Buckley, the National Review was objectively pro-Jim Crow in the ’50s and ’60s.
First, a couple weeks ago, Archbishop Timothy Dolan said a couple weeks ago that if the gays were allowed to marry, New York would be just like North Korea. And of course, K-Lo agreed.
We are witnessing tyranny today that is fostered by a false sense of freedom, a tyranny that faux tolerance ferments.
This gay stuff is indeed a slippery slope. You liberals may think homo marriage is cute now, but before you know it, Andrew Cuomo will be worshipped as a god and start publicly executing people in Yankee Stadium.
Then there was this.
The gay-marriage movement is thus not the heir of the civil-rights movement; it is the heir of Bull Connor and others who tried to impose their false idea of moral reality on others by coercive state power.
Right, because heterosexual conservatives in New York are being denied their Constitutional rights, beaten, firebombed, dragged from their homes and lynched by bigoted gays hell-bent on establishing a homocentric society — all with the backing of the New York police.
Conservatives are very strange people.

Great commentary. Thank you.
Great quick hitter Blue! To dovetail …
Teabaggers Embrace Vast Governmental Intrusion into Family Life
They cannot possibly be “small-government conservatives” when they hibernated through George W. Bush’s metastatic theocracy and burgeoning military-industrial machine. They can’t possibly be about personal liberty when they have stood mum while record numbers of Americans have been incarcerated, spied on, and targeted as “the other.” They can’t possibly be constitutionalists when they have evinced no learning about executive power, the Fourth Amendment, or the religion clauses …

Understatement of the year, but the year’s only half gone.
This year was the 3rd time I’ve manned a booth for WMNF at St Pete Pride, the largest Pride event in FL. I may be straight but I had a great time. After Friday night’s New York action the place was electric. I’ve manned a booth for the station at all kinds of events but Pride is the loosest and the most fun.
Considering that Bachmann just threw her hat into the ring it is about to get really weird.
Don’t laugh. I’m pretty sure this is a photo of the new entrance to Central Park. Scary, huh?
Neat! Where do I sign up? /s
The popcorn budget just went through the roof…
Ditch the microwave crap and buy Orville Reddenbacher in bulk.
I like the marketing for “butter flavoured” popcorn for those too fuckin’ lazy to melt butter.
What was the religious compromise they were talking about before the vote?
Never use that microwave crap. Still, I’m gonna need a forklift to haul the amount of popcorn kernels I’ll burn through over the duration of the 2012 GOP Freakshow Sweepstakes. Damn. Isn’t there some sort of tax credit bullshit I can pick up out of this deal?
We’ll know we’re in trouble when NYCers all start wearing the same gray tunic.
It is their right to treat anyone Not Like Them as dirt to be ground under their heels. They fear there might be a Not Like Them behind the bar. Or cleaning their street. Or POLICING their street. Or defending their neighborhood. Or an usher at their church! The poor folks live in fear of the Not like Them.
And when the law refuses to agree with them, the law is wrong. Time to get the guns!
My suggestion: Make every GOPer shake hands with a known gay. If they refuse or quickly wash their hands afterward, we deport them to one of those African countries where it’s still de facto legal to burn gays in the streets.
Boxturtle (They’d have to choose between Scary Black People and Scary Gay People)
Like everybody wearing Nehru jackets in the 70s?
See? That’s when it all starting going to hell.
ESPECIALLY given the fact that you can now buy buttery substances in squirt bottles.
Boxturtle (Butter should not make a *POOOOT* sound when applied)
Shit, I’m still tryin’ to figure out if there’s anything they aren’t afraid of.
Hey, I still got a Nehru jacket. Still fits.
Boxturtle (ANYTHING to avoid one of those cursed neckties)
Yeah, there’s just something about bottles that sound like one of my tigers has the runs that turns me off.
Obama.
Boxturtle (*rimshot*)
Is it fair to compare Conservatives to a steaming pile of manure?
Is that an insult to manure?
That’s a scary thought.
Laugh all you want, libruls, but K-lo may be right. After all, tyranny is only one letter away from tranny.
No food-like substance emanating from a squirt bottle should ever go *POOOOT*… oughta be outlawed.
These “critics” are the same people that cheered on Bull Connor and his dogs, billy clubs and fire hoses.
Indeed. Including Old Man Buckley himself.
I am laughing hysterically. Finally something that woke me up. Thanks. :)
It’s quite refreshing to see the National Review have the ability to show how incredibly stupid it is and with no sense of shame at all. If the word “retarded” was still PC, it would apply to the line of logic expressed above. The substance of that opinion is not worth addressing because it is so incoherent so all that is left is to revel in the amount of idiocy apparent by its existence.
War is peace, says the Obama administration. Freedom is slavery, claim the opponents of equality. Ignorance is strength, according to the Tea Party. Heard all that somewhere before.
Tyranny == Jack-booted government thugs forcing us to publicly tolerate people we hate. But we’re not bigots because we hate them for damn good reasons. Specifically because the Big Imaginary Authority Figure in the Sky hates them too, and hating the same people He hates gives us a Get Out of Hell Free Card. Which we could really use.
EDIT: So, when you think about it, enabling gay marriage will just send us straight to Hell.
The notable thing about the reaction to the news from New York is not that somebody at the National Review got upset about it but that there really hasn’t been very much response at all from most of the Republicans. I really think they’re giving up on this one, perhaps because they are getting so much more traction on other culture war issues such as abortion. Then too, gay rights has the advantage of having a fifth column inside the enemy army.
Holy Quitter Palin, Robin. I think I’ve seen the Light and figured out why TeaPartiers go along with the Grifter’s word salad so much.
Unsure if the Grifter learned from the National Review or vice versa. Same kind of glib-ly teh stoopit not making any sense, except pointing at “the demon” and going: EEEEEK! You’re ruining MY precious life… BE GONE, you scurvy scum.
Shaking head… what will they think of next… ???
And a better example of projection this week will be hard to find. I’m sorry, but daily I’m reading of state and local governments providing new ways to protect a friggin’ bundle of cells unable to breathe, eat, or feel from being ‘murdered’ for their so-called religious constituents. All because it really keeps women in “their place” to have unwanted children.
I’m really, really becoming a fan of the heads on pikes solution to our long national nightmare.
Gays wear purple.
How does that differ from living under a dictator?
It’s like a purple iron fist around my neck whenever I see it.
/sarcasm

“Faux tolerance?”
THAT SOUNDS LIKE FRENCH.
They really can’t conceive that other people might have “real” tolerance for people who aren’t the same as them, can they?
The very notion just blows their little minds.
Conservatives are just afraid that some large gay dude is gonna sneak up on ‘em and bugger ‘em without their permission. They’re probably afraid they might like it.
Conservatives are horrible people
They’re morally and mentally inferior when compared to the rest of the human race
I’m pretty sure its a mental illness where conservatives don’t feel safe unless they’re subjugating minorities because they genuinely believe that the only way to feel good about being who they are is by subjugating everyone else
