Just say now, baby.
Thanks, BT. Too much rational thinking, it will never catch on…
Janeane is so intelligent on so many matters. So why does she think “Obama really supports gay rights” and that it’s just a “political calculation” that’s holding back his articulating that support.
Janeane, come read FDL a bit.
Yea, they’ll tell you exactly what to think.
2 Sup CT decisions to benefit the Pharma companies…per NPR
Those most interested in keeping marijuana illegal are those who profit most- the growers, dealers and law enforcers – which is a tragedy for those whose illnesses really can be treated with the substance. When speaking of the federal dollars spent, remember to include the money spent in Latin America and the Caribbean. This is the only type of foreign aid now reaching the Caribbean from the US.
thanks.
You’re welcome…;( Not what you want to hear.
What, exactly, is Jeanane Garofolo famous for?
I want all substances legalized except those that the fanatical right advocates for. Keep Che in your thoughts. It will happen someday.
Mornin’, BT, pups

Aaahhh, the good old days.
Good morning all. Thanks for the post BT.
Awesome! Keep them “immoral moralizing maggots” out of my life. Black people who smoke marijuana do not rape white woman. It is a fucking lie! But the drunk will beat his wife, then diddle his kids. This is a fact! Alcohol abuse kills. Time to kick the moralizers to the side of the road and embrace logic and reason, opposed to propaganda and bullshit!
You wait for the sun to come up?!?

Moderation, BoxTurtle, moderation. *g*
Talking with a friend of mine yesterday about those good ol’ days. She and hubby got a humongous hokah as a wedding present. It sat in the middle of the table with all the wedding presents. Bride’s mom was mortified after she was told what it was. Too funny.
Why would you want me to be moderated? Did I say something wrong? :-)
Boxturtle (one man’s moderation is another man’s Wake N Bake)
Truth? I told my mom that little plant in the kitchen window was mint. It didn’t grow very much. The cat ate it.
I am sorry but that seems a tad bit insane.
Janeane is a gadfly. Nothing wrong with that.
She’s smart, perceptive, thoughtful, persuasive, but not an expert on anything. She’s worth listening to nonetheless while we withhold final judgment.
This time a problem may involve the conflict between what’s good and right versus what’s plausibly possible and how much time, effort, and money should be expended in that direction.
Her strength has never been in locating a point of diminished returns in activism, but she should keep up her good work.
All the more reason to boycott as much of their shit as you possibly can. I have.

Did you notice Raven dropped a comment in the previous thread? I still think of him often in my lurk. Sometimes wonder how he would school on some of our newer trolls.
Just a heads up – looks like the Obama webpolice have added a new term to the urban dictionary
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=hamsher
go over and vote it down! If I new how to edit it, I would, but I’m not tech savvy. PS I usually just lurk here – but I love DDay!
Wow ~ we need to be voting these stupid definitions down. Perhaps even replace them with more -ahem- accurate representations!
Thanks!

Being an alcoholic sober for decades I feel so much for those who “fall of the wagon.” The feeling of “failure,” one experiences when falling off the wagon is debilitating. The accompanying guilt then drives the fatalist alcoholic back to the bottle, anestitizing pain advancing a premature death. For the substance abuser in a more generic sense, sobriety is the only option. Not all people are the same and for the individual whose abused drug of choice is alcohol, marijuana can be a viable option, without the negative consequences associated with alcohol. For those who have never experienced the desire to drink as soon as one wakes, no matter how fucked up you where the night before, you can never know. The normal non-alcoholic is sick as a dog and would never consider a drink let alone inquire in your mind, where the first beer of the day(fix)is? Therefore I believe the prohibition against marijuana possession and use as a viable alternative choice for a alcoholic, not a true, substance abuser, is reprehensible and unconstitutional when applied to alcoholism. The law as it exists pigeon holes individuals and denies individual choice. Once again the prohibition is more about squashing one of the worlds most versatile natural resources not because of the danger it poses to society, but rather the economic threat (competition) is poses to specific corporate interests, who benefit and profit from prohibition, while people are thrown in jail for possession. Meanwhile drunks still drive at 140 mph obliterating their vehicles and lives! Jackasses, all of them!
Today my brother is to be indicted as follows, felony.
Kim B****, 56 of Monongah, was indicted on a charge of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver and manufacturing a controlled substance.
He’s my brother who’s suffered a heart attack and has a pacemaker.A felon a crime more serious than a misdemeanor such as murder, manslaughter, ect you decide.
Aprox. 7 PM arrived home w/ groceries made dinner . went to basement to set sound levels for recording equipment, smoked some, ran through three songs. I was ready and decided to get a cup of coffee. When I came out of the studio which is relatively soundproof. Heard loud knocking and a horn blowing, immediately went out the front door to see what it was and was physically held by officer W****** as soon as I shut off the car horn and stood up. 1 other deputy was standing by my car and deputy W****** came up behind me in my yard. As I stated I opened the car door and wiggled the button and the horn stopped. Deputy then held up my arm and stated he smelled marijuana, he informed me it would be much easier if I cooperated w/ them because he would get a warrant anyway. I cooperated w/ them and took them to my studio where approx. 1/2 gram of MJ was on the desk w/ a pipe and lighter. Deputy W****** stated he smelled MJ plants growing also and having previously been threatened w/ a warrant, ect. I showed him where approx 18 plants of what I believed to be hemp plants a majority being sprouts , approx 5 being 14 weeks old. They made me stay on the porch while deputy W****** went for a warrant. Approx. 1 hour I was moved to my kitchen (Midnight ?)while several deputies, officers( plain clothed)searched my home and questioned me. At the conclusion i was read my rights, allowed to go gather my prescription meds to take with me, my dog was taken and I was taken to NCRS. I was placed in a holding cell next morning I was processed and moved to the general population.
I had taken my daily meds when I left my house. 3PM on the 12th (Saturday) i asked about my meds received toprel/Quinappal but no aspirin and no nitroglycerin . I asked why and was told they needed to contact the doctor and pharmacy .
This continued another day. I continued to ask for them but was denied them even though I brought them with me. At least six times. the nitro patches were expired which the prescription was valid through 4/6/09 by each path had an expiration date of July 2011 showing through the window in the box.The nurse wouldn’t give me the nitro I brought w/ me exp. 3/11. even low dose aspirin was denied. I was kept in isolation in the med dept for 2 days. At that point I was having sever chest tightness and was sweating profusely.
I knew there would be repercussions but I had to call the nurse from my isolation cell. I was transported to United Hospital Center by ambulance kept for 30 hours and given blood thinners, nitroglycerin, and advised by Dr. S****** after stress test that he thought I should have an angioplasty performed the next morning.
So there is reality folks.
18 plants weighing maybe less than an ounce ?
Land of the free.
I watched the segment last night and I’ve got to say I was a little disappointed with her response on legalization. Because she had a “bad” experience (what ever that means) she only favors medical and doesn’t smoke anymore. ??? I don’t know how it is possible to have a bad reaction ever. I’ve never seen it or experienced it myself. I have to assume there was something other pot involved whether she realised it or not. Smoke to much, go to sleep. What am I missing here?
Benito, Thanks for the compliment. I appreciate it. There are fine lines in life! I’m just a drunk who chooses not to drink booze. I simply can’t do it. Sure was fun for me but certainly not fun, for others I love. I have no choice. Reaalllllly sucks having to watch out for the spiked kool-aide! :) I enjoy thinking and doing, opposed to getting somarized, and wasting money! To Life, not servitude!

Really sorry to hear that and all the best to your brother. It’s ridiculous, of course, as your brother, imo, was doing nothing wrong.
It’s yet another way to repress citizens and wasting valuable time and resources of the various law enforcement agencies to go after people like your brother. Maybe if someone is a big-time MJ “dealer,” then, ok, maybe law enforcement should be involved. However, in my experience in the legal system, they mostly go after the solo individual who happens to smoke weed now & then. Load of crap. Waste of tax dollars. Does nothing to really deal with bigger drug-related problems.
Good luck!
I’m one of those who had a “bad experience” on pot back in the 70s–intense psychotic suicidal-ideation type paranoia which lasted for several hours and put me off pot ever since. If it weren’t for caring friends who stayed with me as the pot wore off, I don’t know if I’d be alive. Scared the bejeesus out of me.
Psychotic suicidal paranioa? With 1970′s pot? Are you kidding me? The vast majority of marijuana from the 1970′s that was available in the U.S. was little more than dirt weed. By todays standard it’s like the difference between a light beer and everclear. That wasn’t just pot you were smoking. Unless, of course, your lying.
I’d like to appologize to bluevistas for that last line. After thinking about I don’t think it was appropriate for me to suggest that you were lying. I wasn’t there. I don’t know you. I do know, however, that the pot of the 70′s alone could not have caused the reaction you described. It was common in the 70′s, especially the late 70′s to mix other substances with pot to get higher. It was stupid but when your a teenager that kind of goes along with the territory. Sorry
I’m sorry, but to K.O., the whole topic of Cannabis is a great big joke. Oh well, at least he stopped making fun of Medical Marijuana patients, did that some time ago. But otherwise, the fact that people everyday have their lives ruined by this country’s absurd Cannabis laws is just flat funny to Kieth. I guess he doesn’t mind the racist application of the laws that is happening in his own City (I assume he’s still in NY, I stopped watching him for this reason), either.
Review his coverage, he’s no friend of the legalization movement.
NEVER cooperate with the cops when they want to search. MAKE them get that warrant. While the cops were cooling their heels outside, your brother could have eaten all that evidence! Just don’t go to the bathroom, supreme court says you can’t flush your toilet if there are cops out side….
Thank you for the public apology. Everyone reacts differently to pot, including people who don’t seem to react at all when they smoke it or ingest it. To me the notion that ‘today’s’ pot is many times more potent than in the 1960′s or 1970′s is a canard. People can only get so high, and they have got as high as possible in every decade. I do agree about the effects and pregnancy, that when either the mother or father was high on pot when conception took place the child would have a higher than average probability of loving The Beatles.
JerryB,
I’m glad you caught your error. It was only pot. I wasn’t a teenager. I am telling the truth, regardless of whether you want to believe it or not. Bad experiences do happen.
Maybe look at why you want so much to dispute my experience.
I can only go by my experiences which span 35 years. I’ve traveled around the country and overseas and I stand by my statement. As for my wants, I want sanity in our public discourse. I want to put an end to laws that do more harm to peoples lives than the activities that violate those laws. As to my apology, I may have to rethink it considering the personal attack you’ve just made against me. Maybe I know you better then I thought.
Commercial weed in the 70s, those lids you bought for $10, was pretty much dirt weed. Weed from Southeast Asia, Mexico and Central and South America was much better. Weed grown in Hawaii was excellent and could sell for up to $200 an ounce.
Weed one buys today is usually a hybrid of all the good weed from the 70s.
A “bad experience” with weed can happen. People react to substances differently. Usually, however, the experience wasn’t the weed, it was the activity the smoker engaged in and was embarrassed by. Methinks Janeane’s experience prolly fell into this category.
Thanks for your response Aitch. I try always to be civil in my comments though being human I sometimes fail. I love the last line about the Beatles.
It’s true that there were strains available back then that were more potent than what was generally available. I was fortunate enough to try some of those. I don’t think they were any more potent than much of what is currently available. As for “bad experiences”, there were times when I wished I hadn’t smoked so much because all I wanted to do was take a nap. When I was younger I did too much acid and had a “bad experience” I smoked too much opium and had a “bad experience” but I’m sorry, I’ve never seen that with pot. Maybe I was just lucky.
‘legalization’ means that the authorities are granting you permission to do something and therefore authority assumes legal power over the matter.
‘decriminalization’ is the way to go.
don’t fall for lame argument about regulating and taxing for the public good. this is all about gaining complete control over another as-yet untapped and undoubtedly lucrative market. the state should have no say one way or the other about what i grow in my yard, and it is absolutely not entitled to any cut by declaring itself the czar of weed.
Jerry B,
no, you don’t know me. But, you’re saying a lot about yourself. 35 years of what?
It looks like you perhaps have a perspective to protect. That’s what I was getting at by asking you to do some self-reflection. Guess that sounded like an attack to you?
Damage can occur from pot smoking. If pot didn’t have some altering effects, then I don’t think folks would be using it.
Blue,
This will be my last response to you. I’m 50. I first smoked pot when I was 15. Thats 35 years. I would think the word experience considering the context of this discussion would be pretty self explanitory. If I have a “perspective to protect I guess it would have to be that Marijuana is one of the least harmful substances that humans injest for what ever reason they use it. As for damage, that’s something else I have never seen from pot. Cigarettes, yes. Alchohol, yes. Cocaine, heroin, meth, absolutely.
Marijuana is NOT addictive. It doesn’t make you go insane or blind. I have never met anyone who engages in criminal behavior to pay for their pot. I’ve never seen anyone in the hospital dying from smoking pot.
I’ve spent a lifetime in self-reflection. I’m more concerned about you if smoking a joint made you psychotic and suicidal
Oh.My.dawG this is *such* a rational (and extraordinarily funny) discussion and it’s happening on Tee Vee!
Meanwhile, recall “Why Is There An American Media Blackout of the UK’s News Corp. Eavesdropping Scandal?” (CrooksAndLiars.Com, by John Amato, June 21, 2011)? Now notice “Now Rupert Murdoch Wants to Change the Way Our Kids Learn” (June 23, 2011). Is Rupert looking for a new gig?
and this will be my last reply to you…
I’m older than you. My personal experience is very different from yours with regard to pot. Some people actually do go through a physiological and psychological withdrawal when they cease pot. It can be very uncomfortable, and quite survivable.
If you have been using pot for 25 years, prove me wrong by getting some clean time. I’d say you have 25 years you’re protecting.
No need for you to worry about me, not that I believe you anyhow. That sounded much like a bs line. I’m not the one using.
Sounds like you experienced the effects of “Angel Dust.” Maybe you got dusted dude, and did not know it? Back in the 70′s and the eighties dusted weed was all over the place. A marijuana neophyte, would never know the difference and assume it was just the weed? I’m willing to bet it was not for several hours either. Your entire perception of time is distorted when dusted! You may ask how do I know? I can assure you it is not from personal experience. It is from helping other achieve sobriety while “LISTENING,” to their experiences, and not cutting them down with cheap words.
“If you have been using pot for 25 years, prove me wrong by getting some clean time. I’d say you have 25 years you’re protecting.” (How arrogant!!!}
No one need prove anything to you! You are irrelevant. The only person anybody needs to prove anything to, is one’s self and family. So what kind of designer drug do you take to treat your depression, if any? To life and choice. To hell with servitude to a substances, government or corporations!
