When Democrats have asked for some additional stimulus as part of any budget deal with the hope of y’know making more employees that might pay more taxes — oh and be happier with their lives, it was met with a stinging rebuke.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell on Thursday morning … ripped Senate Democrats for calling for more stimulus spending as part of the deal.
“What planet are they on?” he asked.
The Planet Earth perhaps you’ve heard of it? And upon it in this country the unemployment rate is 9.1% and the underemployment rate is much higher.
But McConnell never has thought much outside of his own little shell.

Don’t forget–the Repubs want the economy to be as bad as possible, the better to rid themselves of Obama. Like most progressives, they remain unaware that Obama is a neocon.
Welcome to Third World America, where a handful of plutocrats have all the money and the wishes of the people aren’t even up for discussion. Pretty soon Nicholas Kristof of the NYT will be writing moving pieces about the hungry, oppressed and destitute here at home. He can save the brothel stories for those of his colleagues that cover the political scene.
Causing more misery is just a great political ploy to these cynical monsters.
Our old friends Baucus and Conrad are following the Republicans down the social cuts in lieu of revenue increases path. What a fucking surprise.
Morning all,
Why is the rpublican the corpulent party ?
Can’t serve mammon and the public at the same time.
Good morning, pups. It’s solo Brooks this morning. Prof. Krugman is off today, so Bobo can hold forth all alone. In “The Saga of Sister Kiki” he gets huffy about a sordid tale of a teenage girl trapped by the allure of virtual celebrity that he says raises important questions about where we’re seeking fulfillment. I think we’re all supposed to get off his lawn…
Here he is.
The coffee and tea are ready, the cold drinks are in the fridge, and I’ve got lemon poppy seed muffins that are still warm. I’m running late today, so I’m scrambling off to get done what’s gotta get done before I leave for work. Have a great day.
And from the smallest damn states, between them they represent 3 deer and a wolf…not exactly equal representation.
Of course? Why not try to appeal to the Montana baggers? He won’t get any of their votes but his campaign will be
fundedbribed and people who value affiliation over policy will still come out for him. Even if he lost reelection, I imagine he would have his choice of fat lobbying gigs.Like it or not, McConnell is right. The very idea that we can get anything other than cuts from this congress is not based in reality. Oh, there may be some small items so it looks “bipartisan”, but the bottom line is that except for defense there’s not going to be any government stimulus.
But then again, that’s what the Obama wing of the party wants, eh?
Boxturtle (I have to keep reminding myself that Obama is likely better than McCain would have been)
It’s all a dance. Yesterday Cantor “walked out” with the result that a parade of “Democratic” lawmakers came along and spouted deficit hysteria and mentioned how they were absolutely not going to give tax cuts to the rich by “increasing the burden on the elderly”, etc. After the parade, I’ll bet Republicans and Democrats got together for cocktails and congratulated each other that not one single pundit pointed out that medicare and social security have nothing to do with the “deficit”. Nor did they even mention defense and warz®.
Bobo has celebrity gossip envy. It’s okay, he’s pro’ly better at that than he ever was at actual issues.
I am perpexed that the ambiguities of life have lead us to a place where the nature of things all seem irrelevant. Until we have a government that will show us the way toward justice for all people not related to the Koch brothers,we will have tyranny. The soapbar maybe on the floor but I choose not to slip on it! Viva Che!
Sorry, the jobs aren’t coming back. We were sold out by Democrats and Republicans. I wish they would just go on vacation permanently, all of them.
Have no fear Marge we will stop them in their attempt to chain women to the links of slavery.
Somebody please wake me when the dim-witted jerks with the forked tongues snaking out of their slimy fat throats finally stop hamming it up and playing teh stupid. Meanwhile, I’m going back to sleep.
Not to forget, Conrad and Baucus are first and foremost, Senate Blue Dogs. There are plenty of others as well. And all of them are at risk Dems in 2012.
What they do in the meantime should come as no surprise.
Last I heard, Dana Carvey is a Republican or a Conservative. The Turtle Man skit is an appropriate stunt for him.
I have to doubt that. Montana has almost no breakdown lanes — gotta stop?, you get rear ended, flattened, and run over.
Stimulus?
Like that worked so well the first time.
A Scorched earth policy? Like the bomb maker who kills innocent people based on the absolutist’s ill logic, I can’t wait for this too blow up in their faces, symbolically taking a couple of their fingers and hands in the process. Meanwhile Americans are slated to be drawn and quartered by these indecent opportunists? Hostage takers in congress? These sick bastards are attempting to hold America hostage, for ideological and financial purposes. Instead of cutting, the sick bastards should be looking at an effective energy policy. Ask an American on fixed income if the cost of energy has an effect on their standard of living? Sure does as the cost of living rises. What has America experience since oil hit 147.50 per barrel? Nothing other than a reduction in living standards and the outright devastation of people’s lives. Thank you Goldman Sachs! Jefferson warned US of these bastards. Sen Byrd gave America a warning. No one listened. Yet Cantor and Ryan continue spewing abject bullshit! I often wonder, if these modern day rethugs, would have been on the slaveowner’s side, in a House divided. They call themselves republicans? They should go back and educate themselves as to the role President Lincoln and Thaddeus Stevens, real Republicans, in the abolition of slavery, servitude to the Master. These clowns are nothing but fronts for corporations who have a well documented history of exploiting Americans in the lust for endless profit. No moral hazard here!
More misery? No. Heinlein had it right.
Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.
This is known as “bad luck.”
But, but, but… Obama is going to save us with the Strategic Oil Reserve?
You’re kidding, right? You wonder IF these proto-Nazi’s would’ve hesitated to be slave owners back in the day??? I wonder NOT. AT. ALL. Beings like Cantor & Ryan would’ve been unabashedly *proud* slave owners, and they definitely would’ve led the charge to secede from the Union and start the Civil War. Waddaya think they’re doing right now??
Never forget! Cantor had not ONE iota of a problem standing shoulder to shoulder with his racist Tea Party minions under a huge Dachau sign that compared Obama’s HCR to Hitler’s *death camps.*
http://countercantor.com/
When weasle Cantor was so called on the carpet for doing this heinous act, he, of course, *immediately* blamed it on the Democrats.
I can think if few lower life forms than Eric Cantor. PTOUI!!!!!
Yeah, right: Drill, baby, drill… after the Gulf of Mexico oil volcano, Barry Zero has become just like how W reminded us of Alfred E. Newman: What? ME worry???
Save it. I doubt few people here will stick up for Obama. Speaking for myself I’m not a goose stepping Republican that believes everything Obama says.
Slavery hasn’t ended, it has evolved with better marketing.
Who doesn’t own products with popular branding but produced by “free trade” slavery?
Corporations don’t just exploit Americans.
