We actually got rain last night! After 4 mos. of less than half an inch of rain a month, including the month when we usually get 4+ inches, we got avg. 3/4 in. overnight. Started when I was heading to bed about 1 am–still wet when I got up in late morning. woo hoo!

Sorry you can’t send some of that gloom and rain our way Suze. Don’t know that you’d want the 100, 101, 99, 101 degree days we’ve been having. Only 86 this afternoon, but hooooomid.

Gotta tell ya I’m still taking yoga with my marvelous teacher who concentrates on strength and healing. I’m becoming a proselytizer…it’s made such an improvement in my life.
Not just lack of pain, or relief of pain, but when I went swimming the first time this year on Sunday, I could lift my right arm (the side injured all those yrs ago) perfectly and easily, and positively flew across the water.
Most years it takes half the swimming season to reach that point.
I love yoga. And thx for your encouragement, Petro.

No really, I’ve always meant to meditate, but am not very good at it. Mind doesn’t just wander, it races off in multiple directions.
We always end class with relaxation…teacher leads it almost like my old relaxation therapy tapes…very nice.

Skilly McGee, who was on a goddamn roll! My personal faves are “susie anna riverstone” and “god has left the building” also very fond of “I like the way”, “kohrn Syurp Sunday” and “the Rooster Anthem..

Just home from a public meeting I was involved in, educating the people of Wasilla about the ill effects of some projected massive open pit coal mines proposed upwind from where 90,000 people live. Good audience, serious questions. Unlike our last event, there were no plants from the coal industry trying to screw up the Q&A session with their jibberish.

Powerful presentation by the young Alaska Native (Ahtna) activist, Shawna Larson, about how her community of Chickaloon had 800 people before coal mine development nearby in the early 20th century, and numbered 40 fifteen years later. She has a powerful spirit. I was blown away.

That was at earlier meetings. Not so much plants as people in the audience posing as citizens coming to coal awareness meetings, but actually being employees of one of the companies standing to benefit from the mine development schemes. They’d pretend their outrage was from the perspective of people wanting jobs being upset that environmentalists were fucking up the local economy.

Not sure why there were none tonight, as Wasilla is far more sympathetic to the mines, which are closer to Palmer, where the plants had attended meetings.

I’m back from the great midwest to the freezing SF. The experience was very very interesting. I have a lot of thoughts about it that I feel like writing about but I don’t know if they are interesting to anyone else.

Lots of thoughts about work, jobs, careers and life. One thing that is different about Omaha is that there are lots of underemployeed people who can still afford to live there. There also seems to be a lot of wealth, of course it might all be an illusion, but lots of SUVs, big houses and eating out. The pace was nice too, people didn’t seem to be killing them self to work, many are hard workers but they have a life.

i noticed a lot of that when i moved to oregon from ca.

Los Alamos National Laboratory sits atop the Pajarito Plateau, which is the nearest foothill range (as well as the traditional homelands of the Tewa people) that surrounds the Espanola Valley. In one way the traditionally agrarian culture that has existed here for hundreds of years benefits from the high paying jobs the Lab has to offer. The downside is that we who live here are also subjected to the perils of “progress” deemed necessary for National security. We are Downwinders out here. That means bad water, poison ground, high Cancer rates etc. The reality is that most people don’t care because the general population in the valley is hispano/indio and mostly poor.

Well my latest interest is based on a meeting I had with a relative. He did a presentation about how poorly the Church treated gay people. I agreed. And it was great to have a relative from SF there to tell him he was spot on with his observation. They I started wondering. what would happen if his parents weren’t enlightened, but wanted to send him to some please to try and talk him out of his views. To talk and “pray away the gay”

It turns out that one of these places is run by Michelle Bachmann’s husband.
I wonder what they tell parents. I might just call ‘em and find out. Do you think that would be interesting to people here?
