Will help offset a solid month of ill-informed stories presented with maximum screaming on the cable news networks in 2009.
A report issued today by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) finds little to support the charges that led to the demise of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), a grassroots consumer advocacy organization driven out of existence by Congressional critics.
Thank goodness the Administration and Democratic leadership bravely managed not to stand in the way of this phony scandal.
I’m sure the reason the correction to this overplayed non-story will receive so little notice at this time is because another politician has tweeted a picture of his penis.
Oh, I’m sorry that is just Rick Scott. Word of advice Governor, don’t go out in khaki.

Ya mean the Democratic party has leadership?
Or that there is a Democratic party.
Now Attaturk, why shouldn’t a total dickhead look like the dick that he is?
The Democratic Party played its assigned role in the demise of ACORN: helping to destroy any groups that advocate on behalf of the poor, the working class and what’s left of the middle class while managing to appear more reasonable and sensible than the Republicans.
Morning all. ACORN should have incorporated as a “faith-based” organization. Then it would have been beyond criticism.
And I would never trust the Peace Prize Winner or any other Democrat to watch my back. Et tu Brutus?
Only the vapid wasteland that is the media could have concocted the present clown college that is the right wing field of presidential contenders. Perfect for each other.
For profit news soon becomes for profit narrative or how all media is now tabloid.
Good morning, pups. Prof. Krugman is off today, so Bobo has the stage all to himself. He has a question: “Who Is James Johnson?” He then informs us that the story told in a new book about Fannie Mae exposes the biggest Washington scandal since Watergate. Riiiiight… Fannie Mae was a bigger scandal than Iran-Contra. It MUST have been a bigger scandal than the country being lied into war… (Also, only Democrats are ever involved in scandals because, as we all know, IOKIYAR.) Bobo is an asshole.
Here he is.
The coffee and tea are ready, the cold drinks are in the fridge, and I’ve got banana pancakes this morning. Bobo has made me VERY cross this morning, so I’m off to have more tea, feed kittehs, and water things in the garden. Kittehs always make me feel better. Have a great day.
Er…who’s “Bobo” again? I don’t have my FDL Codebook with me today.
So the pungent and colorful one is our fault, as we’ve been bad. My, my.
BTW, thanks for giving WP a beatdown for us. It really did deserve it.
David Brooks.
Good morning,
Will we see a republican apology for lying about ACORN and a floor fight led by them to reinstate funding for them or the democrats.
Just announced that AARP is dropping it’s opposition to cuts in Medicare. On a related topic the U.S. has fallen to 37th in the world in life expectancy.
On a related topic the U.S. has fallen to 37th in the world in life expectancy.
Thanks, Marion, of course, that scandalous FannieMae and FreddieMac have rates of repayment of loans that are worlds ahead of the private mortgage banks/lenders.
Exception being the 1%ers that will live to a ripe old age.
As their viewership/readership go through the basement, the claims about being dictated to by readers’ tastes get louder.
Whether correct or not, or manufactured, perceptions count. The problem with ACORN was that they weren’t prepared for an attack such as they experienced.
It’s too bad. Bertha Lewis should have had a trusted devil’s advocate in her ranks to warn about what could go wrong, risks, likely threats, all of it. But at this point it hardly matters since the organization blew up and its components have had to restructure.
The ACORN brand carries a liability now when it’s called as such. It’s hard to imagine ACORN rising from the ashes as it was before and getting money from Congress. Yet the various subinterests should remain active under other banners and carry on.
If you want to see what is wrong with the D party, check out Mark Warner on Morning Joke. Complete fraud.
I do believe disenfranchising the lower class is part of the plan for those who have a seat in power
now that corporations can give whatever they want, the last thing these politicians want is to coddle the lower class
sorry
Waging three wars wouldn’t have anything to do with that life expectancy number would it?
Unless you’re paying Obama & Pelosi and unless you’re part of the Goldman Sachs portfolio of companies, those two will throw you under the bus at the drop of a hat.
37th? where did you find that?
Google it.
Or as NBC news put it at the time:
That’s the AARP that advocates for seniors….? Guess it forgot….
WTF?? AARP?
And have the best medical care in the world; just a problem that lots of folks have no access. Go figure.
Or, as Driftglass calls him, David F#$@ing Brooks :)
Has been infiltrated by teabaggage. Now, working against the seniors attracts memberships.
The GOP, now TeaOP
LMAO
thanks.
As Rep. Weiner’s resignation shows, all Republicans have to do is just intimate the mere possibility that there is a hint of some scandal somewhere, maybe, (with the smug complicity of a tabloid media) for Democrats to capitulate to their demands. Granted, Weiner actually did what he was accused of doing and then lied about it but he has been charged with no crimes and his actions were consensual. As long as Senator “Diaper” Dave Vitter keeps his seat, it’s clear that the story is the story itself and not pictures of Weiner’s wiener.
Van Jones, ACORN, Sherrod, Weiner, all based on manufactured outrage. What will it take for Democrats to recognize when they are being played?
http://www.photius.com/rankings/healthranks.html
it is a year 2000 WHO reported result – I believe we have fallen to 43rd in the latest ranking. With Obama’s ACA but no real national health plan we will continue to fall in the rankings.
