After all the times that Little Davey P has failed and then said that he was doing good work, it’s really hard to understand why Mr. 0 is still listening to him. This time, Mr 0 is going to let Little Davey P make a decision that the Constitution tells us is Mr. 0′s decision, not the decision of someone in the military:
The top U.S. commander in Afghanistan has laid out several options for President Barack Obama to reduce the number of troops there, the White House said on Thursday, signaling a plan would be announced soon.
General David Petraeus presented recommendations to Obama and the president’s national security advisers in a meeting on Wednesday, White House spokesman Jay Carney said.
It’s very interesting that this version of the story from Reuters says that Little Davey P gave Mr. 0 several options, because an earlier version of the story really made it sound like Little Davey P would make the decision and Mr. 0 would go along with it:
The scale and speed of that pullback has not yet been announced, and is expected to follow recommendations from Petraeus, the commander of the 150,000 foreign troops in Afghanistan, to Obama.
But this isn’t Little Davey P’s decision to make. The Constitution says:
The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States
When smart people who study history talk about this part of the Constitution, they say it is a very important idea, called civilian control of the military. That means that the Constitution says Little Davey P shouldn’t be the one to make the decision, Mr. 0 should be. I wonder if the first version of the story is right, and Mr. 0 is just going to do what Little Davey P says, but the people at Reuters had to change their story so it wouldn’t be so obvious that Mr. 0 isn’t doing his job.
PS. Mommy, look! I just found where Admiral Fallon called Little Davey P an ass-kissing little chickenshit. Are you going to take your soap and find Admiral Fallon to wash his mouth out like you did mine?

Why does Mr. O listen to Mr. P?
Because Mr. O is an inexperienced, 1 term (2 years) US Senator who doesn’t know the first thing about the military except to diss the troops whenever he can or to use them in violation of the law.
On the opposite side, Mr. P knows what he is talking about, has vast military experience, would make a better President dead than Mr. O has been, and, worst yet, because Mr. O is a total failure and will soon be out of office and back with his fellow Marxist fruitcakes in Chicago.
Oh, and, to add insult to injury, I bet that Mr. O can’t spell Mr. P’s full name properly.

Mr. P is like the bad genie in the bottle and he may want the power as badly as the Big Zero. I don’t trust P any more than I do O and I see zero reason anyone should confer respect to Mr. P when Mr. P doesn’t respect human dignity or American ideals any more than O.

How about this? Are you going to listen to Marcy about matters of spying, national security and torture and use the information to forum a decision? Or, would you just make up your mind on your own?
Would you listen to the advice of Greenpeace about what is the best options on a particular issue, or would you just decide with no input based on whatever you think?
You are jumping to some conclusions.
1. you assume the only information about the issue is contained in an AP story or other news story.
2. further to that, you assume that no one else is advising Obama if a news reporter doesn’t mention it.
A leader would be stupid if he did not get input from all available and concerned parties. Getting the input doesn’t mean the leader is only basing his decision on that input.
You need to give some evidence that Obama is only taking Davey P’s advice on the subject or that he isn’t going to make the decision himself. Some evidence other than a news article.

I think you are missing the larger point.
In general and as of late, “prominent” nutters, Republican Presidential candidates, have been saying they will base their CiC decisions on conditions on the ground or something very similar as if it isn’t the CiC’s decision about getting us out of these empire expanding and bankrupting adventures.
It’s our responsibility to frame ideas and if it looks like O is listening overly much to P, there is some risk that it may even be true. Maybe O just has one of those man crushes on P like he does for that uber responsible patriot Timmeh Geithner? All better?
