I know, I know — IOKIYAR.
Morning, BT.
Thanks. Having succeeded in turning the Supremes into another tool of partisan class warfare, those law thingies are just quaint anymore.
mutt romnoids also says disaster aid is “immoral”
this is their new meme, whenever they want people voting against themselves they use the word “immoral”
no kidding, look for it, they’ve been doing this for about 2 years, the libertarians started the trend
Joe McCarthy started calling the Dems the “Democrat” party. All the accusations of ‘socialism’ go back to Teddy Roosevelt’s term. There is nothing new under the sun for the Right.
Funny thing is… by those same rules isn’t voting against your own interests supposed to be immoral?
problem is, they’ve turned the word “socialism” into a perjurative, most people believe it’s bad in every form
till of course they understand what it really means, but then they refuse to acknowledge that’s what it really means anyway
the man at the microphone can get us to vote against ourselves and they are very good at it
progressives and democrats on the other hand are very bad at it and we insist on using their terms in discourse.
I don’t see this turning around, they own the media and there ain’t nothing we gonna do bout it
“Everything I like is either illegal, immoral, or fattening” – Mae West
Boxturtle (“And the best things are all three at once” – Boxturtle)
what they do when they use the term “immoral” for morality defined is take the word away from us when they are immoral
that’s the strategium, it works for everything they’ve done so far, they take our tools and use them before we do even when they do not apply
True. I sometimes go to the logical conclusion, that socialism meets the usual definition of ‘christian’ as it derives from Christ’s message.
They’ve done the same thing to the word “liberal”. The liberals must call themselves progressives, otherwise they just get tuned out.
Boxturtle (On the other hand, we’re making progress turning “Conservative” into “batshit crazy”)
So let’s see, flip flops, residency requirements, and voter fraud. Sounds familiar some how.
I loved mae
remember when there was a rumor that she was he?
great character who knew how to have fun with our culture and society
“it’s good to find a hard man” I believe was her’s too
just looked up some mae west quotes, I found one perfect for politics!
“An ounce of performance is worth pounds of promises.”
gonna send that one off to the big zero
“Brian McNiff of the Massachusetts Secretary of State’s Elections Division told TheDC that the state will not investigate the matter.”
http://dailycaller.com/2011/06/14/kargers-voter-fraud-allegations-against-mitt-romney-wont-be-investigated/
he could have gotten some political capitol if he played his hand closer to the vest
another great mae west quote;
“anything worth doing is worth doing slowly”
great stuff
What most Americans know about socialism could be put on the head of a pin and still have an unlimited amount of space for an unlimited number of dancing angels.
That some obscene wealth Romney’s got there. His kids too, apparently. Gee, I wonder who he’d fight for if elected President….
I love telling people “a monetary system is socialism”, their eyes bug out when they find out the very concept of money is socialism
good stuff
On an uplifting note, Houston Clergy Council Opposes Perry’s Prayer Rally.
Copy that.
Where’s that intrepid journalist James O’Keefe when we really need him?
Mornin’, BT, pups
Socialism? There was some dude named Jesus who was a long haired socialist reformer. Why do fundies hate Jesus?
Wow, looks like I have an option after all. Thanks Rachel.
O/T…Sorta.
Note the comment: “More on her in Rolling Stone next week.”
Getting some popcorn for that one.Guaranteed to be a hoot.
He came to serve and they like to be served?
And more on The Big Debate.
As well as parading pachyderms and dancing jackasses.
Class war is an easy thing for those who start it, especially when the “targeted” group willingly turn off their own minds and deny the insights of their own experience, again and again.
Oddly enough, conventional warfare is more widely opposed, today, than it was at the depths of Vietnam …
And people are beginning to talk about the greedy behavior of at least some of the elites … and even using that term, “the elites” to discuss the “bail-out” as well as picking up on the professional deafness of the political class …
Education is, sometimes, a slow and halting process … one mind and one heart at a time, although “events” may well focus the minds of many, sooner rather than later … it is to be hoped that their hearts will, also, be engaged.
DW
I heard a bunch of clips of the “debate” yesterday morning on WMNF. Now I know what those sounds were every few seconds. I’d love to have been a fly on the wall when John King discussed the “debate” in private afterwards.
I’m glad you qualified debate with quotes, because it really wasn’t. These folks couldn’t “debate” what to have for breakfast.
Yeah, he probably said something like, “Was my makeup OK? Did I choose the right blazer? Camera angles on my jawline good? And how about the ratings? Did we beat out “Wheel of Fortune?…”
Something like that. Then again, I’m a cynic in these matters.
He was Jewish?
In a world of absurdity, sometimes the only thing that makes sense is a tune. Hang with it. The notes really start flying at about 6 minutes in…
I love telling the story of my run-in with a fundie at one of our early protests at BayWalk. She absolutely would not believe the Old Testament was also the Jewish Bible and that the first 5 books were known as the Books of Moses. Someone asked her if Jesus would bomb Irak and she replied yes. The stupid, it burrrrrnnnnnns.
Got a crazee here that will not admit that Jonah was swallowed by a ‘big fish’ as the Bible says, because a picture on the Sunday School wall when she was growing up showed a whale. Firmly held beliefs are strange things.

Hi Bev. I was hoping you would see that article. Progressive clergy in Texas? Glad you’re not alone out there.
The Perry Revival is getting alot of press…it’s such an odd project.
Are there any other people who are opposed to it?

Bank chiefs’ pay rises by 36% (in the ONE year from 2009-2010)
Bank chiefs’ average pay in the US and Europe leapt 36 per cent last year to $9.7m, according to data compiled for the Financial Times, despite variable performance across the sector.
Two of the industry’s biggest names – Jamie Dimon, the JPMorgan Chase chief executive, and Goldman Sachs’ Lloyd Blankfein – were paid more than 15 times their 2009 earnings. Mr Dimon received nearly $21m in 2010, topping the FT’s survey of the salary and bonus packages awarded to 15 top bankers. Mr Blankfein earned $14.1m, including a $5.4m cash bonus – up from $863,000 in 2009.

Is this a Volunteer day? As Oldn says we are having knock out heat….predicted thru next week. Already been told no fireworks on the 4th b/c the fire risk…Very hot & dry.
Shouldn’t they have to disgorge a lot of that, with interest, for screwing up the system and hurting alot of people, as Ive heard? Just a thought.
The lack of rain is a little scary. I have seen no crops, none, that survived May. Very bad year for local farmers.
That is bad…Ive heard some coverage that it’s the worst since….forever (forgotten the year;)
Oh, I know. I was noting to the dear RevBev that there were other progressive “clergy” there.
I’ve heard that Austin is generally more progressive. All them musicians and such, and of course sweet people like your family.
It is a Volunteer Day and there’s going to be a big Poverty Conference today so I’ve get to going soon so that I can get a parking space that’s not miles away. It’s not exactly a neighborhood I’d like to have to park my car on the street at a distance.
Take care, all.
This is late….but enjoy and let us know more about the Conference. Good for you.
Are you referring to Huntsman or Coulter, Dick?
Our libertarian friends would say that you are “just jealous” that those Bank CEO’s make obscene amonts of money… just jealous. That’s all. THEY “work so hard,” so they “deserve” it.
No one, and I mean: NO ONE, works “hard enough” to “merit” that kind of annual salary (ignoring all the other perks, etc, that they get). It’s unmitigated horse hockey to say so. Given that these are the same MOTU who just about crashed the world economy, “justifying” their egregious salaries (brought to them by OUR tax dollars) is a venal & execrable act in and of itself.
These bankster CEOs, Jamie Dimon in particular, are CROOKS of the first order, and they have STOLEN from you and me, the US taxpayer.
So Mittens may have committed voter fraud??? As Dick Cheney would say: SO????!!!
“Concern” about voter fraud only applies to mongering up fear fear fear amongst racists that some minorities are somehow “in the fix” to commit massive voter fraud as a group.
Hasn’t it been the case that it’s just Republicans, like Ann Coulter, who have, in actuality, committed real voter fraud??? And of course the dictat that IOKIYAR has applied and nothing untoward happened to Coulter.
Nothing will happen to Willard, either, and T-GOPers will only hold him “accountable” for being a Mormon. Voter fraud, if you’re T-GOP?? Fine with the T-GOPers… IOKIYAR.
A millionaire moves into his son’s basement apartment? Just like I moved into my Mom’s guest room? I guess things are tough all over. But wait he has other homes. So is Mitt going to jail will anyone prosecute?
Mitt is a repeat offender now this was not an accident. I think Federal Laws were broken since this involves homes out of state once state borders are crossed in the commission of a crime its an FBI crime.
That means Obama’s Justice Dept can get involved.
Next time the GOP screams voter I.Ds we point out their Presidential front runner committed voter fraud twice!
Mitt deserves the full 5 year felony conviction as a repeat.
His old settled first violation should be looked at again with this new evidence.
Rachel Maddow is a Flaming Marxist Fruitcake.
She is also someone who regularly gets her facts completely wrong and, when caught, blames others for bothering to point out her egregious errors.
In 2011, Maddow went so far as to quote at length a website called “Christwire.com,” which, in an alleged opinion piece, said that Sarah Palin called for a US-led invasion of Egypt in the midst of demonstrations which eventually brought down the government of President Hosni Mubarak. Unfortunately for Ms. Maddow, as with many other of her alleged “gets,” she got punked: Christwire.com is a fake news site, and Maddow quoted it as if it were real. Conclusion? She didn’t CHECK HER FACTS BEFORE MAKING AN INSINUATION.
That’s not stupid, folks – that’s just plain sloppy.
Days went by, until she finally half-apologized for the horrific error by…blaming conservations and Glann Beck for not bothering to do her own homework.
In another example, during the union protests against Governor Scott Walker in Wisconsin, Maddow stated that “Despite what you may have heard about Wisconsin’s finances, Wisconsin is on track to have a budget surplus this year” – a statement which Politifact, the liberal website which usually castigates conservatives, called “completely false,” showing Ms. Maddow to be the dunce she tries so hard to be.
But this is not a recent occurance for Maddow: in June 2009, she claimed, falsely, that conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh had wanted James Earl Ray, the confessed and convicted assassin of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., to get “the Medal of Honor.” Again, facts failed Maddow: Limbaugh had said no such thing, and in October 2009, five months after she made the fictitious claim, she apologized on air for the false story.
And remember what she said in her “Lean Forward” tv commercial for the low-rated MSNBC gabfest:
“It’s about finding all the disparate facts and then finding their coherence. Doing this right takes rigor and a devotion to facts that borders on obsessive. At the end of the day, though, this is about what’s true in the world.”
Remember that line, folks: “doing this right takes rigor and a devotion to facts that borders on obsessive.” How do you dissect that one without laughing? Maddow comes from the school which doesn’t have a “devotion to facts that borders on the obsessive” – she is the from the school that says that if you tell a lie over and over again, even when the lies flies completely in the face of actual facts, you believe that the facts will change and the lie will become the new truth.
Again, more evidence that Maddow is a crank: in October 2010, after disparaging Republican candidates for their gall in criticizing reckless federal spending and government-controlled health care, Maddow made this jaw-dropper of a claim:
“Yes, this has happened to a smaller degree before. In 1994, in the first mid-term election after the last Democratic president was elected, we got a slate of candidates that included Helen Chenoweth of Idaho and Steve Stockman of Texas. These two were so close to the militia movement in this country that Mr. Stockman actually received advance notice that the Oklahoma City bombing was going to happen.”
Days went by before Maddow finally admitted that she had made the entire story up:
“When I mentioned Steve Stockman again on this show on Monday night, I misstated the details of that true account that you just heard me give there back on the show in March. On Monday I said that Mr. Stockman’s notice from the militia movement about the Oklahoma City bombing was advance notice. It wasn’t in advance, it was right after the bombing. I apologize for the misstatement. It was an editing error and it was mine alone.”
Rachel Maddow: a Flaming Marxist Fruitcake and Buffoon.
“Mitt deserves the full 5 year felony conviction…”
Nah. All he is going to get is at least four years as President of the United States, starting on January 20, 2013.
Man, how it must SUCK to be an Obama Sycophant: you are in flown blown denial about everything, and you rely on Rachel Maddow for facts. That is akin to relying on Adolf Hitler for sensitivity about Jews.
Very true – makes in hard for one to be right wing and Christian unless you are a “values” voter into small gov who tells oneself that the needy will get real help from private contributions and don’t need the gov – despite all the proof that the size of the group called needy require an amount of help that only the rich can provide – and only gov can get the rich to part with that large a sum.
Rachel Maddow errors are best cut and pasted from Bob Somerby’s the daily howler, http://www.dailyhowler.com/, because your version has too many lies by omission of detail. Indeed Bob’s post have errors, but at least they are not as large as the ones you’re tossing out.
As to Steve Stockman getting notice of the bombing from friends of the bombing – well it is curious that the actual facts do not disturb you as an American – and that you focus on the 24 hour error on the time of the notification.
