Green Eggs and Ham, from the 1973 CBS television special, Dr. Seuss On The Loose.

Run Sarah Palin run right into the brier patch, Go say things Sarah Palin because that is always hilarious, I’m as afraid of Sarah Palin running as I’m afraid of a nice foot massage and a glass of Jameson’s
Barney Frank: “Republicans are completely afraid of Elizabeth Warren” |
| By: David Dayen Saturday May 28, 2011 7:00 pm |
Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA), the ranking member on the House Financial Services Committee, thinks that the Republican efforts to both block any appointment for the Directorship of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and to now block recess appointments so a Director cannot be installed, comprises an “outrageous abuse of the Constitution,” and must mean that the “Republicans are completely afraid of Elizabeth Warren,” who is currently setting up the bureau, and who is the leading candidate to take it over.
Where Marcy Walks Her Dog |

So here’s the story: this video is meant as a snub to Newsweek, which back in January named Grand Rapids (with Flint and Detroit) as one of Michigan’s three top-ten dyingest cities in the country. So now Newsweek, seeing how a bunch of Grand Rapidians will parade the streets to prove Newsweek wrong, has sheepishly apologized.
Clyburn: No Medicare Benefit Cuts as Part of Any Deficit Deal |
| By: David Dayen Saturday May 28, 2011 5:00 pm |
Now that Mitch McConnell has thrown down the gauntlet and demanded a cut to Medicare as a condition for an increase in the debt limit, Democrats have the choice of negotiating with hostage-takers, or holding firm and allowing the pressure to build on their opponents. All of the leading contributors to the GOP don’t want a debt default. They can and will do the work – indeed already have been doing it – of forcing the Republicans to act. It hasn’t yet worked, but the pressure hasn’t yet risen.
Is There Possibility Of A Glimmer Of A Clue? |
| By: dakine01 Saturday May 28, 2011 4:00 pm |
No. It probably isn’t. Probably just some more wishful thinking on my part. Nevertheless, I was quite surprised this morning to see a few pieces around the web pointing out that a “new Republican Jobs bill” was just another tired rehash of the same failed policies of the last thirty years.
“I can’t define punography, but I know it when I see it.”
Just as Potter Stewart might say, folks, this is “it.” A contemporary reader might be surprised to learn of the role that punning has played throughout the development of human communication, but this book’s ambitious subtitle stakes a claim that journalist and champion punster John Pollack amply delivers upon in The Pun Also Rises: How the Humble Pun Revolutionized Language, Changed History, and Made Wordplay more than Some Antics. Part punatomy lesson, part historical treatise, and all fun, this work encompasses a wide punorama of the field.
Americans Overestimate Gay Population – How Will This Affect Fight for Marriage Equality? |
| By: Jon Walker Saturday May 28, 2011 1:00 pm |
It is possible that the belief a huge segment of the population (instead of a relatively smaller percentage) is being denied their right to marry is making straight supporters (and those who oppose) more likely to take action on the issue, such as by donating money, volunteering, going to vote on a ballot measure, making it a factor in candidate selection, etc.
Feinstein’s Secret Law |
| By: emptywheel Saturday May 28, 2011 12:00 pm |
Make no mistake, not only did Sen. Wyden get this colloquy into the Senate record, but there appear to have been several threats hiding behind the Senate blather. DiFi has said she thinks the way to fix a secret law is to change it in a secret committee meeting. But Wyden et al have made it clear that if she doesn’t agree to fix it in her secret committee meeting, he will try to do so on the Senate floor.
Egypt Opens Rafah Border Crossing With Gaza |
| By: David Dayen Saturday May 28, 2011 11:00 am |
It’s a big moment, not only because it ends the blockade on the Palestinian people. It’s a big moment for Egypt as well. This is a country just 3-4 months from revolution, and it’s their second major foreign policy decision. They brokered the deal between Fatah and Hamas, and now they’ve opened the border crossing.
