Gas prices rose dramatically while George W. Bush was in the White House (after they had complained that gas prices were too high under Clinton), dropped significantly during the Bush/Cheney recession, and are now, because of the recovery, returning to the previous trend. It would be good if some reporter would ask these Republicans what they were saying while gas prices went through the roof under President Arbusto and Vice Preisdent Halliburton. But there’s also something absurd about Republicans demanding that the government do something about gas prices. Wouldn’t that be interfering the free market?

Agent Provocateur? Sometimes Notes Get Destroyed, Sometimes They Don’t |
| By: emptywheel Sunday May 8, 2011 9:30 am |
A government filing submitted last month addresses the defense’s requests for notes regarding various interactions Mohamud had with the FBI. It describes two sets of hand-written notes from a FBI agent(s). The first are the notes an FBI agent took after Mohamud got stopped at the airport last year.
Those handwritten notes were preserved.
But there was another set of handwritten notes–those documenting the July 30 meet at which a recording device failed. Those notes were not preserved.
Corporate Tax Reform Approaching in a Time of Record Corporate Profits |

Sometime in the next month, the Obama Administration plans to release a corporate tax reform proposal. You would be forgiven for thinking that jobs or even the budget deficit will consume the time and effort of Washington over the course of the next year.

All those drones we’ve been dropping on the tribal lands of Pakistan?
Well, they must have come close to hitting OBL once before–because a drone in Waziristan apparently killed one of OBL’s daughters.

Happy Mother’s Day! May your flowers be fresh, your candy be chocolate, your breakfast in bed, and your children at home – with you.
Of course the topic on the network shows this morning is the death of Osama bin Laden. No surprise here, but the ratio of Bush officials to Obama officials on the Sunday shows this morning is 6 – 1. As Marcy notes, the torture apologists are out in force today. Will they be challenged? If only. *big heavin’ sigh*

Given that the continuing deadness of Osama bin Laden has so dominated the news of late, one might wonder if other evildoers who have in their own specific fields of villainy likewise done grave damage to The American Homeland might get the Justice they so richly deserve.
Second Term Sheet Coming From State AGs Probing Foreclosure Fraud |
| By: David Dayen Saturday May 7, 2011 7:00 pm |
State and federal regulators will submit a second term sheet to big banks in an attempt to settle the foreclosure fraud investigation, with some concessions to banks. But it’s still unclear where the penalties for violations of law and abuse of borrowers will wind up.
