As we wrap up another Memorial Day Holiday, the most fitting way to honor our Fallen Comrades would be to end the senseless and wanton wars that we’re currently mired in…!
What’s on your mind tonite…?
If you were gonna do that song, why not THIS vid?
Best movie ever.
“this is the end, my friend. … maybe?
Hello!
CT?
Congrats, TG…! ;-) That was the very inspiration to select that tune…! It was one of two movies that my PTSD’d Nam Vet step-dad had rented, on VHS, for my ‘farewell’ party as I headed off to boot camp…! The other one was Bill Murray in ‘Stripes’…! ;-)
Aloha, M’dear…! My eldest heads back to your neck of the woods tomorrow nite…! 8-(
Leaving children are heartbreak.
aloho tut — great tune
Goodnight Pups!
Oops – missed CE altogether? It was so quiet downstairs I went off to do my dishes and fold the laundry and stuff.
Aloha, Suz…! I think the NSA folks are around tonite…! 8-(
Sweet Dreams, Chris…! *g*
aren’t they around *every* night ?
Hi CT and everyone; what a hot day. Thanks for the song.
Did everybody have a nice holiday?
The 100th anniversary Indy 500 got me all nostalgic, and I wound up making hot dogs, potato salad, and on impulse at the grocery store, chocolate (!) angel food cake. Hadn’t had angel food cake in years, but it was nostalgia, too: my childhood friend’s mother made it for birthdays and holidays, and I usually had Memorial Day picnic at her house.
Are there clues?
*heh* Any Doors tune, is a great Tune…! ;-)
Aloha, SirLurks…! It seems I’ve an abnormal infestation of the critters recently…!
Aloha, Margot…! Mahalo, glad ya enjoyed it…! ;-)
Hello, I Love You…
Chocolate angel food cake, oh my. I’m going to have to look for that.
Back Door Man…
Incidentally, one of my main objectives in visiting Gay Paree, while I was stationed in Germany, was to get a charcoal tracing of Jim Morrison’s gravestone…! ;-)
Just like so…! ;-)
It was good, but a touch bland, like all angel food, but I made a little raspberry sauce to put over it…yumm. and calorie-free, right?
Yummm, raspberries…! I like’em better than Strawberries…! ;-)
Ooh, look what I found:
Says it’s from Rose Levy Beranbaum’s Cake Bible, and I’ve never known a recipe of hers to fail. ; )
Mmmm, to both…I got some good strawberries this weekend, too.
I thought I’d read over the holiday…instead I cooked and ate and did some cleaning, and sat out in the patio enjoying the heat with the kittehs. Oh well.
It was a quiet weekend for the Better Half and moi, as the Eldest bonded with her little bro and sis at the Beach…! ;-)
Ah, the beach..the perfect holiday weekend, eh?
*sigh* I suppose everyone’s Waiting for the Sun to rise in the morrow…!
I’m not complaining…! ;-)
Well, I shall bid ya’ll another fond adieu…! I hope everybody arrives safely home from their Holiday travels…! ;-)
Aloha Oe…!
Pretty quiet tonight…everyone have too much beer at the picnics?
Think I’ll call it a night.
Here’s Nico’s version
Fallen comrades? Who are they? The CIA guys who got themselves blown up in Khost? The grunt who got blown to smithereens by an ied in Helmand? I feel sorry for them, even the CIA, but that doesn’t make them my comrades, and it doesn’t mean they are sacrificing for my freedom and security. Indeed their deaths are as pointless as the deaths of the civilian non-combatants around them. In an era when war claims far more (far far more) civilian than military casualities, where is their day. Memorial Day is a day when remember war as it was, not as it is. And I know it isn’t proper to say this, but at least the troops are getting paid (I know our tax dollars pay “compensation” for some civilian deaths). Speaking of which, shall we include the mercenaries (sorry, “contractors”)among our “fallen comrades” – they’re doing the same things, fighting the same people, killing the same people – if the troops are sacrificing for our freedom, why not the mercenaries? because they make more money? If it’s Memorial Day, why not take a stab at memory instead of what’s become: a celebration of oblivion.
