Well, this is what happens when you denounce Paul Ryan’s plan to destroy Medicare as “radical right-wing social engineering” — even if you’re the Republican “ideas” man.
“There’s no question there was a misspeak here,” Cantor said on WLS radio in Chicago. “Just to sit here while all but three House Republicans voted for the Ryan budget, to somehow portray that as a radical step, I believe, is a tremendous misspeak.“
Rep. James Lankford (R-Okla.), a freshman on the Budget Committee, said that “typically, you’ll find people in a presidential campaign running against the current president of another party, rather than running against his own party.”
“I was surprised to hear Newt say that,” DeMint says. “I have a feeling that in retrospect, he will figure out a way to qualify that.”
“Contrary to what Speaker Gingrich said yesterday, the Ryan plan does not ‘suddenly impose’ ‘radical change,’ ” said Santorum.
“What he said was absolutely unfortunate,” Haley told CNN in a phone interview. “Here you’ve got Representative Ryan trying to bring common sense to this world of insanity, and Newt absolutely cut him off at the knees.”
“I am not going to justify this. I am not going to explain it,” Limbaugh said Monday to his national radio audience.
Heresies are simply not tolerated in fundamentalist movements.

If you don’t like what Newt has to say, then just wait a minute.
He touted Ryan’s plan just a couple weeks earlier. He got in trouble by saying something reasonable, but it was insincere.
Wow. They’re all terrified that a Serious Person may have let the cat out of the bag and told the country that Ryan’s budget is a whack-job manifesto.
It’s really funny to watch ‘em dance.
Thanks for the post, BT.
Be sure to get the large economy size.
Mmmmmm, butter-flavored oil.
/Homer Simpson.
Looks like Newt is taking a page out of the Democratic playbook. He’s hoping to get the center and figures the base will have nowhere else to go. Heh.
Can you believe that!? I mean, what ever happened to a little veggie oil to pop the corn and then put real butter on it? How fuckin’ hard can that be?
Just as bad as maple-flavoured high fructose corn syrup fer yer pancakes.
This fits Michael Kinsley’s classic definition of a gaffe: for once in his life, Gingrich told the truth. No wonder they’re all angry.
It couldn’t happen to a nicer man, unless it happened to someone else.
Tap-dancing and Comedy at its finest.
He’s trying please both the whackjobs and the likely general-election voters. An impossible task, but it’s fun to watch him try it.
Gah. I only buy real deal maple syrup.
As for the topic, I wonder what Newt’s wives think of the Ryan budget?
Don’t know about the current Mrs Gingrich but the former Mrs Gingrich’s prolly think he’s a world class asshole. So do I, matter o’ fact.
“They’re all terrified that a Serious Person may have let the cat out of the bag and told the country that Ryan’s budget is a whack-job manifesto. ” ……
yep – and the “they” in that sentence includes all in media – the media seems invested in making GOP wishes come true – never an analysis or a pointing out of how radical the Ryan budget is – guess they must suck up to gain “access” – not quite BBC, or Al-Jazeera, or Russian RT.COM quality of ethics and journalism.
I’m also interested to see Ahnold’s
10 year old love childopinion on the Ryan budget…I think the latest wife is wide-eyed about this.
Melting butter.
The Thug Convention will be popcorn time for the rest of us, when the PTB’s put it to the liberatarians and other fundamentalist inbreeds that their candidate(s) is going to have to suck it when the brokered convention chooses Pawlenty or Romney. Tails don’t wag dogs, and for all his ranting, Limbaugh is a tail. The dogs are on wall street.
And everything else.
Thanks for the laugh. I bet her face will stay preserved for a 1000 years…
With a decent pan, a little shaking and a sense of time, you can reliably pop corn without oil. As for micro-wave popcorn, its production is seriously harmful to workers, owing to the “oils” sprayed on the corn, which are exceptionally hard on the lungs.
Heh, it’s in the city across the bay from me. I don’t think the Tampa PD serves popcorn in the cross-bar hotel. Hope the food is better than the Pinellas County jail. New mayor Bob Buckhorn is gonna come down on us like a million ton shit hammer.
I won’t touch anything microwave.
Back to work.
Namaste.
Wonder how Margaret’s gettin’ on at the new gig.
I’ve seen that look before. It was an Owl looking at a Mouse, its next meal.
Put the corn to-be-popped it in the oven. No pan required. No burning either.
We use an Air Popper perfect popcorn every time!!
can’t be worse than the pepper steak in the cook county jail
Medicare is one of the most popular programs around, whereas congress in general is highly unpopular — so let’s see how this plays out for Gingrich.
Newt made the mistake of thinking he was running in the general election, not the Republican primary. Typical of a an egotistical megalomaniac, he thinks he is the obvious winner of the nomination.
Awwww, poor Newt…thinks this is still the 1994 Republican Party. The GOP might get it together next year, but right now the Party’s message is so incoherent, keeping the House (let alone gaining the Presidency) could be a lost cause.
And it couldnt happen to a more deserving guy. I guess campaigning really is a bit different than just going on Sunday talk shows with your hair on fire and spouting off whatever comes to mind how “FILL IN THE BLANK will cause the end of civilization as we know it”. Even if its the exact opposite of what you said with equal vehemence last month, or last week, or earlier the same day on another cable gabfest.
Fundamentalist movements, fundamentalism, is a narcissistic ‘faith’ concerned most of all with the wrongs suffered by the righteous and the purification of their ranks. It’s no surprise that Gingrich’s latest remark raised the shackles of the fundamentalists. However, it will be a surprise if Ryan’s plan to deep-six Medicare garners many votes from the populace, whereas Gingrich may have just secured more votes – and that’s what it’s all about, isn’t it?
I think Gingrich is trying to assure the center that the republicans are not rabidly insane so it’s ok to vote for them in ’12. With so many goper candidates stroking the crazy baggers the center might get scared and vote Obama next year. Maybe even coattail some of his dems. But since it is necessary for them to keep that wingnut hatred burning fiercely they MUST have insane candidates stoking that fire. Newt is a “wink-wink, nod-nod” to those who are appalled at the hateful idiocy. “Vote republican and don’t worry, we’ll lock the crazies back in the basement after we are in power.”
I see by the papers that Newt’s third wife (the Stepford one) owes Tiffany’s $250 K. At the normal rate of interest on credit cards, what she is carrying has a carrying charge of $75,000 a year. That’s some heavy jools.
My eyes, my eyes!!!!!!!!!
It might work. After all, those same “center voters” (whoever those mythical beings may be) have already seen a good bit of “crazy” from Obama. Not only NOT doing anything he campainged on, but actually starting another war (and not even consulting Congress on this one, which at least the assholes W and The Dick at least did), claiming he can assassinate US citizens and actually carrying that out, also assassinating criminals with no due process (which is the end of the rule of law as we know it, yet was loudly CHEERED by many/most, EVEN ON THE LEFT, which was admittedly on life support at the time anyway), and, whose TWO US SCOTUS choices thusfar sided with the far right in the latest grab for police powers mentioned on the very front page of this blog (remember when SCOTUS appointees were the last gasp reason folks were supposed to vote for Democrats?).
Yeah, wink-wink, nod-nod, that we’ll put our crazies in the basement might just work given the level of crazy we’ve seen from this admin.
Can’t imagine why the rich would want anyone other than Obama though. He did W and The Dick’s tax cuts one better and lowered the estate tax FURTHER AND, as a bonus, raided the funds to social security to fund another tax cut as a ways of starting to tear down that program!!! I’m thinking the Republicans will need all the crazy voters they can get because the traditional rich might just wake up and realize they’re better off with Obama and the D’s.
If Ryan’s plan was anti-voucher and unpopular, Gingrich would be pro voucher. The man is an absurd joke.
LOLzers! Pass the popcorn, indeed!
Eye-of-Newt, who pushed to shut down the govt only to have it be a giant sucking FAIL for his career (at that point), decides to tell the *inconvenient truth* for a change: the radical whack-job “tea party” types are out to STEAL your Medicare & Soc Sec that YOU, rightwing voter, PAID into with YOUR hard earned cash dollahs!
Like that????!!!
Well, it appears that El-WeirdoDelux Cantor & Frothy Mixture find such truth-telling too cold, hard &, uh, factual, for *their* liking.
But don’t worry, kidz, just stay tuned and watch Eye-of-Newt *walk it back*!!!!
Now who ya gonna believe????
The only question in my mind is how fast will he walk it back. I’m thinking by this time tomorrow…..
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
That’s the funniest one of all!! El-Lushbo won’t ‘spain it cuz to do so would be to *reveal the truth* for once in his big-fat bloated obscene life…. and Rimjob ain’t ever gonna do THAT!
Hooboy! This is teh funnneeeeeee….
Thanks for a huge laugh, BT!! Really good!
THAT long??? Tomorrow????
If Rimjob’s reaming out Eye-of-Newt, I’m figuring that Gingrich already’s on his way to kowtow at Rimjob’s feet & to kiss his, uh, “ring” and BEG & PLEAD forgiveness for his “mistake.”
You KNOW how all the “R” pols are beholden to kissing Rimjob’s ring, doncha??? Newtie’s in trouble, Newtie’s in trouble…
I like your take on it.
Thanks BT for another good read.
P.S. Just by the way, there was a letter to the editor in my local “nooz” paper from a conservative citizen *praising* Limbaugh to the sky for being so “serious” and “honest,” and – wait for it – “telling citizens what they want to hear.”
I sh*t you not.
Love the photos BTW.
“Man overboard!”
“Newt? NEWT????”
BT should start a pool on the excuse Newt will use to walk it back.
I’m gonna go with
“My quote was taken out of context.”
That seems to be a popular one amongst those assholes.
After seeing that picture, I can only imagine where Newtie’s hand is.
No one who’s soft on Obamacare is going to do well with Republicans. That goes for Mitt Romney, too, the darling of centrists. It’s something like the way you guys would feel about an ostensible progressive who started spouting laissez-faire economics.
“…..and Newt absolutely cut him off at the knees.”
Does Ryans current Health Care policy cover cut off knees?
Heh. As the saying goes, the enemy of my enemy is… hmmm. Nope, still a vile a-hole.
I’m sure that must be “The Jokers” long lost sister.
Newtie could be in real trouble….He was counting on raising enough money to settle that Tiffany’s bill before having to get out of the race. Callista is going to be PISSED!!!! She may even have to blink.
OMG, talk about a Stepford wife!
