“Rather than thinking of this as a crisis, I think of this as an opportunity to come together,” [John Boehner] said on CNN’s “State of the Union,” adding that he would not support tax increases as part of the deal…
Aw, he wants to deal…right, the Republicans are always willing to deal…
On “Face the Nation,” Boehner invited President Barack Obama to join him in tackling entitlement spending, alluding to the House GOP budget that made major cuts to Medicare.
But, of course, as long as the poor and needy get screwed, it’s all good…stepping on the “little people” makes sense to Republicans because they leave less of a stain on the carpet.
And what can the President expect in return?
Boehner has also ruled out tax increases as part of a deal for grappling with the long-term deficit
Ah, nothing.
This does seem right up Obama’s alley though, I’m just surprised Boehner didn’t wait for Obama to come up with it without asking.

His swelling into tears is part of his deal with the devil. Everytime he thinks back to when he sold his soul, he tears up. Bwahahaha.
“I’m just surprised Boehner didn’t wait for Obama to come up with it without asking.”
Barry loves him some backroom deals. I’d be surprised if the fix isn’t already in.
bingo
I always thought bush would reel out a bin laden to get a few bonus points and a republican victory
it seems obama managed a no primary challenge with the obama assasination
shame, I wonder how much more damage he’s going to do next term
Elections have consequences. Let people see what happens when the crazies let their freak flags fly.
Obama officially became a Repug when he extended the Bush tax cuts and bought into the austerity (f**k the powerless) scam. I expect he’ll fold on more assaults on the the poor and elderly.
I believe it official with telecom immunity, the double down with bush cheney immunity
Actually, Obama’s career as a crypto-Republican began when he was a Senator. Sen. Obama voted for the Cheney energy bill, possibly the worst law ever written.
When I brought this up during the primaries, you wouldn’t believe what the Obots said about me. That’s when I knew the Democrats were screwed. :O
Teeth
Both parties have an interest in stimulating their respective bases.
This leads to collusion in manufactured appearance of crisis, when in fact a deal (or at least an outline) is in place. Once the kabuki dance has served its purpose, voila, the exploitation of the public is no longer needed for awhile, and and they’ll “act” on a compromise. The public is expected to sense relief and express gratitude.
DC is a Potemkin village, no? I don’t suspect the pols first go there with sly intentions, but it seems they all catch that habit once in power. Maybe the best recourse is to almost always vote against incumbents.
Ecahn post some choice words for obama to, it was pretty well established that obama was a blue dog , now he
he looks even looks like a right wing conservative
When he walked in the door of the Senate with his mentor/sponsor/godfather the Knesset senator from CT.
Good morning, pups. It’s The Pasty Little Putz and Krugman this morning. The Pasty Little Putz haz a sad. In “A Requiem for Huckabee” he ‘splains to us why his populism will be missed on the campaign trail. I’m so sick and tired of phony folksy populism that I could puke. Prof. Krugman has a question in “America Held Hostage:” Will President Obama confront Republicans and say no to budget blackmail? Paul, I’ll try and make this as simple as possible, with a SASQ reply: Hell, no.
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, and the biscuits are out of the oven. I got my gerbera daisies in the ground yesterday, so that leaves a few herbs, a couple of coleus and a bunch of portulaca. And my horde of unexpected tomato plants in what used to be the herb bed are blossoming like mad and starting to set fruit. Have a great day.
Damn I am envious, you are so far ahead of us. Up here in the wilds of NH. we are still eating from crops planted last fall and still planting for spring crops this year. The peas have not set flowers yet although the strawberries are full of blossoms and the rhubarb is about over.
WE do have a legislature full of blooming idiots however.
Wait until August, when I’m bitching about the heat index of 110… Then maybe you won’t be quite so jealous!
In Republicanland, “bipartisanship” always means Republicans say what they want and Democrats vote for it.
Obama is more than likely to sell out the poor, the working and the middle class. He loves to demonstrate his class solidarity with the ruling elites. If his poll numbers begin to drop all he has to do is give a meaningless speech and/or send out a hit team.
You are right about that, no doubt. Up here August is canning and freezing mayhem with cool ocean breezes to ease our pain. A truly delightful time of year.
I’ve seen absolutely no indication whatsoever of the Democrats trying to stimulate their base, unless, of course, your assumption is that their only base is a collection of banks, oil companies and MOTUs.
I have to agree with you , the democrat tween the corporate sponsors and that’s it
There are so very few Democrats left. They are all Vichycrats or Corporocrats,
Boner didn’t even offer Obams the courtesy of a reacharound.
Being Republican also means never having to reciprocate.
By the by — if you haven’t read the Special Counsel’s report on Ensign you should. Reads like a Barbara Cartland novel.
Good morning Marion and firepups,
Yesterday Coburn denied again that he was the go-between Ensign and the Hamptons, even though he is mentioned in the special report 46 times.
Lying sack of s#it, but that is a Republican for you.
I really hope that they find the smoking gun that destroys him.
ya, it’s the new “ism”, it’s not “liberalism”, it’s not “socialism” nor “concervatism”, nor “marxism”, nor “communism”, it’s not even “capitalism”
it is a new ism, it’s “corporatism”
that’s the subject of my new diary but I haven’t had time to write it
Well, I understand where you’re coming from, and your heart’s in the right place.
However, banks, oil companies, MOTUs don’t have a vote regardless of how smarmy they are. A vote is what it’s about.
Getting a base off its seat is to activate individuals. It involves misinformation, incomplete information, agitprop, — what more can you say? “Spin” is a relatively new term in our lives.
It’s a matter of pols needing to shape opinion rather than soliciting such from individuals and acting as such. It’s unhealthy, I think, and Dems and Repubs are both at it.
according to the supreme court, they are people and should have that right
time will come me thinks
My wife pointed out over the weekend that the only time Boner cries is when he’s talking about himself.
He doesn’t cry when he talking about screwing the poor and the middle class. Like when he referred to 100000 plus gov’t workers losing their jobs – “So be it. We’re broke.”
What a fool.
Good morning all ,
”
We’re like a family with a “defense” addict. We’ll put off paying bills, fixing things that need fixing, screw the old people out of their money anything but address the habit that has destroyed civil family life.
We’re cutting needed programs for the general welfare to apply a little nick in the Magnificent Mindless ‘Merican Murder Machine budget.
OT. T-1:30 for Endeavor launch.
Chris Hedges column on Cornel West’s opinion of Obama:
http://www.commondreams.org/view/2011/05/16-1
We long ago had to face the fact that Obama is no progressive. But now, and before it’s too late, we need to face the real problem: he is no conservative. We’ve had time now to evaluate what he does, and to learn that the best way to learn what he’s doing is to reverse what he says.
Obama has a record now; and his record is that of a radical right-winger. He is in the White House because he’s a cynical and accomplished liar, and because the fascist shadow government that has given us the last thirty years knew that, in spite of his profoundly dishonest campaign, he could be trusted.
Obama works for the oligarchy because he wholeheartedly agrees with them: he buys into every single aspect of the worst among us.
We must acknowledge who this man is in all its unpleasantness; and in organizing to fight back we must understand that Obama regards 99% of this country as the enemy: he is nothing more nor less than the current point man for Wall Street and the corporatocracy. Voting for him is a vote to continue the looting of this country and the for-profit destruction of innocent lives all over the world.
The one thing I am sure of is that I won’t have another vote for Obama on my conscience. We need a second party. If we can’t manage to at least challenge this tool from the left, I’ll write in my cat Lulu.
Well said; couldn’t agree more. Will even consider voting for Lulu bc I sure as heck ain’t voting for OILbama. No way, no how. Ceased being a member of the laughingly called “Democratic” party some time ago. Not into the Vichyrats/corportists that they’ve all become.
I’ll be writing in Bernie Sanders. He’s the closest thing to representation the 80% of us have. The double bonus being that this way when the GOP attacks anyone who believes in governing to the benefit of the majority and calls them socialist at least they’ll have it right.
Cut off free health care for members of Congress. Hold up their paychecks too.
