Oh, so warm and sunny today. We lunched in the botanical garden, in a sea of yellow tulips. I had a book group reading The Swan Thieves in the afternoon.
i woke up to rain — a cold rain at that. finally stopped and cleared around dinner time but dang, the temps dropping quickly out there. lunching in a botanical garden *swoon*
Hiya, pups. Beautiful day in Wasilla. Clearing winter debris, getting ready to plant, getting ready to conduct Peter and the Wolf and 1812 (and other stuff) this weekend in Anchorage. Shannyn Moore is going to narrate Peter. I initially wanted to do the piece with a new narration – Sarah and the Wolves (with Helicopter sounds written in) – but Shannyn wanted to do it straight. So we will.
hiya all!
got to be at the fdl webinar today that I heard so many people talk at,
fun, never did that before — it’s easy on this end: plug and play and push a few buttons and wait at the right times. Couldn’t be simpler really.
Oui! I am pretty wonderful. I’ve done four public programs in three weeks, including Egypt’s Vivant-Denon, Roberts and Beato. Today, I did a book group for The Swan Thieves. Did you read this?
This may appear to be a shameless promo of a diary I wrote, but no, it’s rather a public service announcement, to alert everyone to a great program on PBS on Monday. Excellent FDL book salon to follow on May 29.
they get the excitement out west, we get the boomers and patter ;-)
that’s alright , If we get steady rain for the next few weeks, harvest is already looking late for the wheat;
unlike the other side of Missouri, I know: they got floods so big out there, dayamn!
I don’t read fiction unless I’m pressed into a book group, which I was here. That said, I liked this book and loved the letters from the 19th century love affair.
I’m actually back in DC at the moment, so it’s quite late for me. I roused myself out of bed to let everyone know about the Freedom Riders program & book salon.
Four months after the Federal Communications Commission approved a hotly contested merger of Comcast and NBC Universal, one of the commissioners who voted for the deal said on Wednesday that she would soon join Comcast’s Washington lobbying office. Meredith Attwell Baker, a former Commerce Department official who worked on telecommunications issues in George W. Bush’s administration, announced that she would leave the F.C.C. when her term expires at the end of June. At Comcast, she will serve as senior vice president for government affairs for NBC Universal, which Comcast acquired in January.
The promotional materials I got from the publisher said the on-line site would stream the film, but when I visited there, I didn’t see it. Perhaps it’s being delayed until the film actually runs. Don’t know, but hope.
It’s really a wonderful reminder of courage during scary, violent times. Something from which I feel we can all draw inspiration.
Hey all. Drive by. I’ve been having some fun tonight getting ready for doctor tomorrow. If all goes well it will be 5 years before I get this particular joy again.
This is actually a reissue of a book the author put out in 2006. About 18 months ago, I saw an exhibit based on it at the Skirball Center in LA: original pictures of individual Freedom Riders, with a small story of who each was, then a current picture and write-up of what had happened to them over the past 50 years. Just amazing.
Gotta love my mom for this one. She survived two bouts of cancer, I got to start getting checked at 45. I will say the prep is not as bad with current medication, no cramping to speak of – just a lot of sitting around stinking.
And you are so right–we can all learn something about real courage by watching this documentary. I just watch a PBS doc about the music of the civil rights era the other night. Did you know We Shall Overcome was originally a labor/union movement song written by a white dude?
You bet!
Alternatively, you could use the modifier ‘fn’ (at the lower-left of your keyboard), and strike F-5.
But I prefer, and am regimented to, Command-R.
I missed Olberman on Letterman tonight. Was watching Colbert and forgot Keith was on. When I remembered and changed channel, Chaz Bono was being interviewed by Dave….
my mom considered it to be the equivalent of a soap oriented at teens… and no big deal. my friends used to come over to watch it — the rule was household chores had to be done before tv so my friends helped me do mine so their access wasn’t interrupted.
my first is a jennifer — when i named her that in 1977, it was considered an old fashioned name that wasn’t real popular. i thought it would be unique — she had 5 jennifers in her kindergarten class
i worked so many night shifts that i find it very hard to get to sleep at a decent hour. i always longed to get back to swing shift when i was on days… and those 2 3 year tours up in detectives were rough. my inner clock is set to go to sleep around 3 or 4am and get up sometime around the crack of noon
aw thanks loohoo. its a lotta fun doing the search for just the right video and i stumble upon some great stuff — many times i end up down a completely different path than the one i started on
Hey Suzanne!
hey ce — how’s ohio tonight?
Suz!

i don’t miss those dry days of summer down there. we get occasional rain during the summer and that helps keep things lush and green
Started of with a bang last night – THUNDERSTORMS! Then rain, all night, all day, including now.
Kinda nice actually…

Eh, bien! Ca va bien, mon cher?

So many sacrifices for FDL!!!

Hey Kelly,
I’m off to dreamland, but my thoughts are with you. See you, darling!

Me too. No symptoms that could indicate problem, and outside of family history no risk factors.
getting high
Thanks, newt! This has been driving me crazy. Let me try this command R.
Sounds really important.

You bet!
Alternatively, you could use the modifier ‘fn’ (at the lower-left of your keyboard), and strike F-5.

Jon Stewart really took FOX to task over their shit about this tonight….
pussycat
Saw that! And Command R is working, newt. Thanks so much. I still wonder where my refresh button went, though!

T. Graham Brown on the juke.
my mom considered it to be the equivalent of a soap oriented at teens… and no big deal. my friends used to come over to watch it — the rule was household chores had to be done before tv so my friends helped me do mine so their access wasn’t interrupted.
hey thatguy — how ya doing tonight?
OK, trying to get prepared to be a working stiff again. Not much music playing this week.
The Sweety wanted to name our newborn daughter Angelique. We settled for Jennifer….
your new job starts next week right?
my first is a jennifer — when i named her that in 1977, it was considered an old fashioned name that wasn’t real popular. i thought it would be unique — she had 5 jennifers in her kindergarten class
Yes, Monday.
I talked The Sweety out of naming our daughter Angelique by telling her that, if we had a son, we’d have to name him Barnabus….
Can’t find the article I just read rebutting the Atlantic article on Palin. Said the pic gave her a halo! It’s true.
woohoo! are you having to readjust your body clock or are you one of them natural early risers?
I remember that picture….
happy lucky 100 robert!!!
Missed it. What sort of a job did you get?
up is down >shakes head numbly<

Doing web work for a medium-size tech company in SillyValley.
