Hellooooo!
hellloooo ce — how’s cleveland tonight?
Oh my — sun all day today! A welcome relief and a day of cooking and reading. Just my style.
i had a day of off and on showers and that’s the forecast for tomorrow too. am hoping i will find that there are more sun breaks on the other side of the hill tomorrow
What’s up for Mother’s Day for you?
SuzToon™!
Hey Chris!
i’m headed over the coast range to celebrate jen’s first ever mothers day as a mom — and get my jujube fix :) she’s 4 weeks today and i’ve not seen her for almost two weeks (jen’s had company). jen said she is starting to plump up.
ha! i like that newton. how ya doing tonight?
Hiya newt! Has spring sprung for you yet?
Evening Nana Suz and ce. Happy Mother’s Day to both of you!
hey bg — how’s nm tonight?
Oh yea! Or, as MsCE said of her friend’s new baby — she’s starting to look like a real baby! Isn’t that a scream? Good for you, Gran.
i’ve already put my camera in my purse — along with the gift bag for jen. there’s no way i’m forgetting the camera this trip.
Thanks! As it happens, I will have both “kids” with us tomorrow.
We are expecting lots of pics with all members of the family.
yay ce!!! what a grand way to spend the day — with both your babies
Great Suz, it is perfect weather.
Like crazy, sounds like yours is well under way.
i was hoping jen would send me some pics (like she did last week) to help tide me over until tomorrow but she’s had family visiting and they left today.
No wind today, so how bad can that be? We had sun.
SNL having a lot of fun with OBL tonight.
*le sigh* springtime in the bay area is so … so … so… warm (laughing) weather dood says its been an unusually cold and wet spring
JrCE was in a wedding tonight in downtown Cleveland. He flies out tomorrow night, but we will see him for a few hours tomorrow. His wedding plans are coming together, and it is pretty romantic that they are marrying in the same place that MrCE and I did, at the Hagley Museum in Wilmington, Delaware.
lsls was saying downstairs that her tx station keep going blank during snl… no service interruptions on any of her other stations
he got some practice under his belt for his own nuptials. that’s so cool about the wedding being at the same place as you and mr ce :)
Pretty hilarious! Who knew that Mother’s Day and the death of OBL would be in a single new SNL!!!
Yeah, it’s embarrassingly nice. Sorry about the soggys you’re getting.
i’m starting to get a wee bit of cabin fever and am looking forward to getting out tomorrow. i’ve been spending way too much time indoors and am trying to get out more and start walking again.
We have had the wettest April on record here in Cleveland. It has really, really sucked for people. But the plants and trees are so happy!
HA HA HA HA Lee Roy is sending me NEW songs! :-D :-D :-D
hey thatguy — how ya doing tonight? still walking among the clouds about getting a job?
“Here he comes to save the dayyyy!” I love Mighty Mouse cartoons.
Soggy here too.
29 years ago tomorrow was my first Mother’s Day and we were both still in the hospital.:)
Edit: 28 years ago. Can’t count…
My first Mother’s Day was August 4, 1981.
hey margot — glad ya liked it. how’s your part of ohio tonight? wow, every few years, my mom’s birthday (yesterday) falls on mother’s day.
I had a Mighty Mouse rubber doll (it was made for boys back then) when I was about 7-years old. Was my most favorite Saturday Morning cartoon. I didn’t then, but I appreciate the zoot suit and swing dancing now….
mine was in 1978 — jen was almost 11 months old
hey robert — how ya doing tonight? iirc, this was the only non-opera mighty mouse they made. i was doing some research when i wrote the post and don’t remember where i read that…
Oh wait I got that so wrong. JrCE was born that day, so my first Mother’s Day was May, 1982. I had hoped to give birth in the hospital in July so that I could watch the royal wedding in color! That was a very long time ago.
Are you a swing dancer today?
I remember those very early saturday morning when I sit in front of the TV waiting for the station to start broadcasting. What was that round icon that was on the screen before the national anthem started?
jen was born in june. her due date was 7/7/77 but she was a wee bit early. it was during the drought and a heat wave so i was doubly thankful for the air conditioning *and* the unlimited showers.
Oh, me too. I was with a brother who pinched me silly.
I wasn’t incarnated during the original big band/swing era, but I watched a lot of those old musicals to know how to ‘cut a rug’ as good as my parents could….
Oh, the air conditioning! And the showers with help.
the one that counted down the numbers as the station started up again in the morning?
My Dad, who played the drums in a band in 1943, taught me how to dance. The funniest thing is that he is NOW playing in a band twice a week, at his new residence. Still swinging!
It was that round, striped spoked thing with the sound of a tuning fork….What was it called? I can’t remember….
the hot water never ran out and there was no water restrictions like at home. was so decadent showering in that huge shower with steam billowing around me. revitalized me and i felt wonderful afterwards. i was permitted to get out of bed and have the shower the day after having her. the old days, when they kept ya 3 days…
remember the first time ya saw the peacock ‘in living color’?
My Dad insisted I was a Howdy-Doody fan, but I never remembered ever watching that show….
We were a bit late to the color revolution. I remember sneaking over to the neighbors to watch Star Trek in color….
Oh yes I was going to mention that snappy zoot suit.
I actually stayed in the hospital for 12 days. Facts are in the past, but those nurses really taught me how to feed that baby without showing anything. I really became a pro.
OH I do! My rich friend Susan had a color tee vee and I was amazed!
my folks bought a huge color tv, record player, am/fm console set in 65. our tv was very popular with my friends…
I never could understand the why of covering a perfectly good pair of breasts….
I don’t either. I do remember Froggy, but don’t know what show that was on.
Oh, we did too! It was a “credenza.”
I firmly believe televisions in the living room should be cabinet TVs. Mine is a RCA 25 in cabinet television I bought new back in 1984….
huge forker but easy to fix (replacing tube wise) and lasted for years and years and years. after the tv finally died, it still had great stereo hi fidelity sound.
i gotta admit those flat screen tv’s are a whole lot lighter and easier for me, as a solo, to move around.
If this TV finally goes, I’ll save the cabinet and put the flat screen in it, because you can’t buy a cabinet TV anywhere these days….
both of my ‘portable’ tvs are in the pod… i picked up first the small flat screen and then the larger one when steph was here and really appreciate how good the technology has improved from back in the old days when if ya didn’t adjust just right, ed sullivan was green
I love television, but I’m starting to rethink cable. Has anyone cancelled? MrCE will never let me cancel, but I can dream. The only thing I would really, really miss is HBO.
Goodwill.
I still have a good as new Sony betamax video recorder in my attic. I loved taping stuff, got as many recorded shows as books in my library. Been transferring them methodically to DVD….
i’ve reduced from digital expanded cable in cal to the basic cable included in my rent. i don’t know if i could go completely without cable — maybe if i was closer to the metro area i could but would still need one of those digital converter boxes since everything is digital now.
And I extend my goodwill to you, too, Margot….
Where we are there isn’t any tv reception unless you have cable, a dish, etc.
True. In the meantime, we are watching Manor House, and I have to get to bed. I have a Art & Fiction reader group on Wednesday and I have not finished the novel, “The Swan Theives.” Has anyone read this book?
Yes, I know. Sigh.
i’ve not — i rarely read anything other than book salon books and the occasional janet evanovich stephanie plum novel. i really need to start reading more too.
First paragraph of a horror story I’m writing:
Two flies mated on the clear tube of Edward Harrington’s respirator. He wondered how they had managed to penetrate hospital defenses. He feared whatever clung to their ugly bodies from the putrid place they originated from. Were they scouts for a thousand others of their kind? Was their vile intercourse on one of the many tubes keeping him alive sending an orgasmic summons to others? Did they sense his helplessness when they separated and landed on his naked chest to suck and regurgitate whatever fluids seeped from his bandages? Was the female laying her eggs?
oh lardy, that gave me the shivers dood
I have to read this for work. I don’t read fiction much since 9/11. And I miss it and it’s hold over me from years past.
I’m so glad. That means I was not wrong to avoid dawdling before slipping in some horror….
i used to read a lot more fiction until i retired. several of the other ladies at the pd and i used to swap books around to help defray the cost. after i retired, i didn’t have access to all those books. i’ve kept up on the plum novels tho…
OK that’s it for me. Goodnight all my FDL friends. Happy Mother’s Day to my fellow mums, and kisses to the ones I’ve forgot. See you on the new horizon.
Suze! Pups!
we’re finally having a bit of spring here. I had to work overtime friday & saturday afternoons but was able to get a lot done in the veggie garden in the evening. Put down a lot of landscape cloth last year, it did a good job of killing sod between blocks of veggies. Spading it over today was easy-peasy! Well, kinda, heh. Tomorrow i start planting. peas, carrots, lettuce, etc. Gotta wait a few weeks for the warm soil stuff like beans.
came in from digging and read today’s excellent book salon. Thanks, ET for being a great host! I think i will buy the book as a late mom’s day present for my mom (and then borrow it from her).
g’nite ce — happy mothers day
hey ndfg — how ya doing tonight? wasn’t that a great salon!
The guy is in a coma, but he sees everything from some point of darkness in the limbo of the not-quite-dead.
He will die, but he finds the trance-inducing light that we have all heard leads to the glorious all present love is really something quit different.
“Don’t go into the light! It’s a trick!”
ooooo sounds like one that makes the reader think what if
We should start a book swap here at the lake.
I’m off to read and snooze, be safe Suz, and enjoy your first Nana’s mother’s day!
g’nite bg
i had thought originally about using this cartoon but embedding is disabled
it sure was! I didn’t have to feel disappointed because i missed it real-time, the Pups asked such excellent questions that there was nothing left for me to ask *g*
et wrote up a great into to the book and did a fantastic job hosting.
woah! not at all similar to lovecraft in style, but man, gives me the same frisson that lovecraft’s best does.
And it was fun too! Thanks, Suzanne.
Just finished cleaning up from Ms ET’s birthday dinner. Her B’day was on the 2nd, but she had to go out to Bethel and thereabouts for a week to work.
I made Prince William Sound Shrimp on mushroom pasta with shitakes and pine nuts in a belgian cheese cream sauce, fresh arugula salad with pecans and dried cranberries. Rosenblum Lyons Reserve Zin 2006.
LMFAO, must’ve been before Pampers….
hey et — wow, that sounds yummy. can ya stuff some of that into the tubes for me dood?
so glad you had fun!
Love that kind of feedback. I sent a Lovecraft-style story to Weird Tales on Feburary 20th. That’s a long time to wait for an answer, but may indicate some serious consideration….
Geoffrey was exhausted afterward. He’d never been in something like that with the constant new questions. He kept his answers brief and to the point. That helped a lot.
he did remarkably well for it being his first time. hope he had fun.
I first read through Lovecraft over the winter of 1973-74, while working crab boats in the Gulf of Alaska. At night. Listening to the anchor chain howl as the wind wrapped around us like banshees and the waves seemed to want to climb up the sides of the hull into the galley and the crabs in the holding tank were scratching against the bulkhead, seemingly getting larger every minute in the light of thumping generators.
Hmm, Sarah Vowell is on C-Span talking about her “Unfamliar Fishes” book….
Sir, you should be writing novels. From reading your description, you have talent.
He needs someone to type for him. i worry his shoulder is hurting him.
He was one of the quickest and most thorough guests we’ve ever had. I really enjoyed that salon, but his poor arm..!
i came in from the garden after the book salon was done, but had to sit down and read it start to finish. Excellent questions, excellent host, excellent author response. Bravo! (and hippo birdies to mrsET)
how long will the birthday girl be able to hang out with ya this time et? iirc, her work keeps her on the go
aw fuck, i did it again
My sympathies. I now know how easy it is to…
/~~~
*laughing* i gotta admit i was forking lmao when ya hit it when ya covered my baby shower trip absence. so naturally, i’ve hit it more since that trip
karma has a wicked sense of humor
tuttle wasn’t around to save you this time, Suzanne….
Grrrrrrr
grrrr
he said last night that his wife had plans that included his attendance today — i hope they are not still at the mall…
Power outage here for 25 minutes or so. Thanks, Robert. Means a lot from you. After I finish my opera about Edward Teller I may tackle a novel about Palin.
about time for me to head out. thank you for letting me hang out with ya tonight – happy mothers day everyone
g’nite all
He shared that with me afterward. Tough guy, Geoffrey.
To all the Mothers who are not here to spend their day with us! Happy Mother’s Day!!
thanks jrubin — hope you had a great mothers day
