Late Night: How Wingnuttia Works

By: Thers Wednesday April 27, 2011 8:06 pm

Glenn Reynolds’ dipshitty ruminations on the birther idiocy provide a window into the mind of an absolute putz. Mr. B. Texan has mentioned this already but further spelunking into this cavern o’crap is instructive because it uncovers why he’s such a shithead. The White House may think it’s sprung a trap, but I think they [...]

A Brief Note on Birtherism

By: David Dayen Wednesday April 27, 2011 7:17 pm

People want to disparage this whole thing as not a “real” issue – present company included. But what it says about America circa 2011 is very real.

Roberts Court Sticks Another Dagger In the Back Of Consumers

By: bmaz Wednesday April 27, 2011 6:34 pm

Well, yes, of course this was the decision of the Roberts Court; it was as predictable as the sun rising in the east. The conservative block in the Roberts Court – Roberts, Scalia, Alito, Thomas and Kennedy rarely miss an opportunity to buck up big business and screw individuals and consumers when it comes to any issue involving class action law and/or standing. It is simply what they do, and they have no problem doing by politicized 5-4 majority opinion.

Rep. West Afraid of Q’s At Town Hall. Nicole Sandler Arrested.

By: spocko Wednesday April 27, 2011 5:51 pm

Radio host Nicole Sandler tried to ask a question to her congressional representative Allen West (FL-R) at a Town Hall last night. Instead of getting an answer to a follow up question about Medicare she got ejected and arrested. Later in the Broward County Florida jail she was put in solitary confinement and maced.

Remember all the Tea Party people who were ejected, arrested and put in jail for asking questions about health care in 2009? Remember all the stories on Fox of them being maced in jail? I wonder if they are still serving time.

Federal Judge Invites Rank Bigotry Into 9th Circuit Courtroom

By: Teddy Partridge Wednesday April 27, 2011 5:08 pm

Judge James Ware, who succeeded Vaughn Walker, has called for briefs and scheduled a hearing on the motion by Prop 8 Defendant-Intervenors to vacate Judge Walker’s ruling on the grounds that he is 1) a homosexual and 2) in a long-term relationship and therefore 3) his ruling that invalidated Proposition 8 could directly benefit himself.

This is rank bigotry, and I’ll tell you why: Yes on 8 says Judge Walker’s ruling shouldn’t count because he’s gay and in a long-term, committed relationship that might result in a marriage should his own ruling that Prop 8 is unconstitutional be upheld.

White House’s Sperling Weighs in on Fracking

By: wendydavis Wednesday April 27, 2011 4:25 pm

New White House economic advisor Gene Sperling said, “The natural gas industry should support ‘common sense’ regulation to ease public worries about potential water contamination from hydraulic fracturing, a drilling practice vital to the U.S. shale gas boom.”

Bernanke to Unemployed: Drop Dead

By: David Dayen Wednesday April 27, 2011 3:43 pm

One reporter finally raised the issue. “What can do you to increase the pace of job creation, and why aren’t you doing it,” was essentially the meat of the question.

And Bernanke answered that, while he has been engaged in extraordinary efforts to aid the economy, he had to be concerned about inflation as well. So basically, the Fed is failing at one of their mandates (maximizing employment) because they’re worried about their other mandate (price stability)… which they are ALSO FAILING AT!

Corporate America Wins Again: Supreme Court Rules Against Class Action Small Claims

By: David Dayen Wednesday April 27, 2011 2:10 pm

The Supreme Court didn’t hold a press conference, but they made a major contribution to the lives of Americans in a ruling today. And wonder of wonders, it benefits corporations at the expense of regular people.

Poll Shocker: Republicans Like Ryan Plan, Dems Favor Obama, Few Follow Details

By: Jon Walker Wednesday April 27, 2011 1:20 pm

The latest Gallup poll for USA Today found that the American people where close to evenly split along mostly traditional partisan lines on whether they support Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) deficit reduction plan or President Obama’s deficit reduction plan. In reality, however, the poll tells us basically nothing about how the American people feel about the two difference proposals. It only reinforces the fact that most people don’t spend a lot of time following the insider policy debates in Washington, DC.
