Consider this your opportunity (or not) to provide running commentary of two famous and wealthy people who are famous and wealthy for no good reason, but it has something to do with their parents. In America, we’d call them the Republicans from Jersey Shore.
Besides, let the British have their wedding, we know how to marry nobility in this country too.
I just hope they’ve gotten Kate’s long-form birth certificate, oh that’s right she’s white and they don’t appear to have as many insane people. Besides, we’re the nation of wealthy inbreds now.

About Firedoglake
The way I see many of the female gender of our great nation (US) fawn over the royal wedding has me almost believing that some would have us return to some monarch.
That said, can you really be a Tea Party member without pulling out your gun and shooting your TV?? If you said yes, I want to see your birth certificate.
Ah, Royal Weddings… Almost makes you wish we were not a classless society, without aristocrats and gilded carriages, so that we could have all that pomp and circumstance too.
According to a man on the YouTubes yesterday, the long-form certificate is a phony. It must be true because he had it on Photoshop and everything.
For most of their history, the Royal Family has been a reactionary pox on the body politic of their country. The endless hunt for the next heir and spare troubles me not.
But Mrs. Pillow? “It’s the romance, hon. You wouldn’t understand.”

Shuttle launch today at 15:47 EDT, 19:47 GMT or UT.
http://tycho.usno.navy.mil/cgi-bin/timer.pl
The Shuttle launched 9 times in 1985 and that was the most launches ever in 1 calendar year. Do you recall that the Shuttle was advertised and sold to the public as being able to launch as frequently as every 2 weeks or so? That would mean about 25 launches per year. The Challenger disaster occurred in January of 1986.

Today’s will be the 134th orbital flight in slightly over 30 years.
I’m up. I’ve had my strawberries and cream and I am watching the Queen ride out. Yellow is the color she chose. The brassiest color I’ve seen so far.
If this is fawning I apologize. Not speaking of a preference for their system. I love a great parade and this is a great parade of people and bands and bells.
So how is watching the great fund raiser for the church of england…are the priests all wearing funny hats and dresses…any female priests?
The Queen has arrived at Westminster, the crowd roars. So for all the grumblers about this oppressive British system , apparently the royal subjects love their monarchy. Different strokes for different folks.
A blast of the trumpets within the Nave for the Queen.
Only need the bride now.I missed Prince Andrew. Hopefully we will see him seated inside.
The march of capital and entrenched power into a new generation.
There was a female priest and as a Catholic I was quite pleased.
Are you talking about the Clintons and the Bushes?
Meanwhile in the real world.
How is that cease fire going
The little flower girls are adorable. They can’t take the bells and are covering their ears. That is the shot of the day. The bride looks lovely with a elegant neckline, simple veil, very modern not too much. No word on the designer yet.commentary (on ABC ) is abysmal. Watching with someone, so they chose the channel.
If I were a bride I would love love love those bells.
Call Homeland Security. There are Loyalists lurking amongst us. :O
Bloody hell even AlJazeera has the fucking wedding on. Time to go and watch the grass grow.
I am waiting for the youtube porno of billy’s wedding night.
This will be a mass, a perfect time to pray for peace and for our leaders to start conducting the world with peace in mind.
Not I. It’s frankly somewhat irritating, old bean (removes and polishes monocle).
They’d never stop for a moment to distract people from the spectacle to understand what really happens in the world.
For those who absolutely have to watch something, anything here is a good cricket match between the Mumbai Indians vs Rajasthan Royals. It should even satisfy the lust for something “Royal”.
Not a Loyalist, but if I were , that’s allowed here still right . . . for now at least.?
Sane people don’t pray to or believe in ghosts, goblins and ghouls. But then sane people do not watch bloody idiotic weddings.
Didn’t turn the teevee on this morning, don’t give a rat’s ass if Kate comes sashaying down the aisle in a cowboy hat, tool belt, and flip flops.
Am a little disappointed to find this spectacle discussed here, too.
No comments during mass from me.
A royal wedding would be good material for Bob and Ray to satirize. Do a radio report from the royal wedding. I once heard them do a tv report from an elaborate football halftime show. Unfortunately the video has just gone out so we’ll describe what’s going on. Carpenters build ski jumps. There’s artificial snow. People parachute from planes onto the ski jumps. Back ready for the 2nd half, all in 20 minutes.
Yes. Undermines the credibility of the site. Hard to believe FDL would advertise itself as where live blogging of the royal wedding could be found.
The very least we can do is play some Sex Pistols songs (wink-wink, nudge-nudge).
Hypomania
Bloody awful. But then it is good teevee for those are incapable of thought. On the bright side my first tulips are abloom this morning.
Attaturk has a lot to account for and definitely gets 4 demerits for even mentioning the spectacle.
Longtime daily reader, first time commenter. I guess authoritarianism runs strong everywhere. If you don’t want to watch or talk about this wedding, um don’t. Go to any of the hundreds of other available threads here. You don’t get to tell other people whether they can or not, or should or not. If you don’t want to pray to a deity/deities, don’t. You don’t get to tell other people whether they can or not, or should or not. Neither of these actions hurts any other living being.
Diversity and tolerance? Apparently not here.
BlueFloridian–sorry about the pile on. Get your strawberries and cream on, girl, and your mass on too!
Good morning, pups. It’s Brooks and Krugman today. Oh, it must be just about killing him. Bobo went on a field trip to see teh gummint in action. In “What Government Does” he says a trip to the Department of Housing and Urban Development provides a look at the state from the inside-out. Turns out that gummint ain’t all bad after all, folks, and it probably damn near killed Bobo to have to say so. Prof. Krugman, in “The Intimidated Fed,” says instead of addressing the dismal unemployment picture during Wednesday’s press conference, Ben Bernanke bent to the inflationistas. Which I guess means he obeyed his marching orders.
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got banana pancakes for breakfast. Our storms have passed, and it’s 59° and clear. Yesterday at this time it was 72°. Just in case there are some of you who are unaware of it, here’s a linky to the latest edition of Democracy: A Journal of Ideas. Enjoy, and have a great day.
x2
Hi. Blue Floridian looks like she can take care of herself — nice reply about Clintons and Bushes, I thought. As for me, I’ve got to get off to work, but we’re taping the Beeb and we’ll watch later. I think you’ll find that anything that has anything to do with religion tends to get the crap kicked out of it from certain quarters, but there are also those of us who sing in choirs and distribute chalices at Mass. So yeah, there’s diversity. We’re actually like a large, contentious family at dinner.
Royal watching is so bourgeoisie. Did anyone else notice that there was no “You may kiss the bride”? No kisses. I’m crushed.
So it OK to tell people to pray but it is not OK to tell people it is idiotic to do so. Prosthelytizing OK but opposing opinion, not permitted… sounds like godist thinking to me.
Thanks for your support. I had a good giggle reflecting on the intolerance displayed and the anger my comments drew in this “democratic” community. Luckily, I don’t let what others type define me or deter me .This is the history of the British people on display. For better or for worse.
And I don’t think the site advertised this nor should Attaturk get demerits for bringing it up.
BTW, I thought India had won the whole cricket kit and kaboodle? As a baseball fan that is one sport I can’t get into.
There’s a difference between saying, “I think it’s idiotic to pray to a non-existent God”, and “YOU are an idiot to pray to a non-existent God”. The second statement betrays anger that says much more about the sayer than about religion.
@ Marion in Savannah: you are right, didn’t mean to imply she can’t. The hostility was just really striking, so I thought I’d just speak up for a change.
Having worked for British firm, I can say that royalty was viewed as a waste of taxpayer money, a freak show, and an unending embarrassment to the nation.
Some throw food, most don’t.
With all due respect, there are tens of thousands outside who disagree.
I didn’t tell people to pray, I said it was a good time to say one for those inclined. If you prefer, you could send your thoughts of peace telepathically like Richard Gere does to the Dalai . Or you could just write about your thoughts of peace .
Wow, I hope you feel better, now that you are let off some steam. Do you ever have anything good to say? Do you ever see any silver linings in the day?
Do you ever see the glass half full instead of half empty?
Or, does everyone on this site live in drama, poor pitiful me land?
sad
Yes it is obvious they are all hating the moment , a waste of their time , hahaha
I’m sure the wedding will do more for England than Ben’s QE and QE2 has done for our country :-)
Love the horse drawn carriages, the carriage they are in is from 1902. At least the recycle and are going green, no?
Good morning all.
That’s funny. 600 Billion (I think) down the toilet versus 33 million pounds. Yea they got more for their money. We didn’t get a parade or a band.
I grew up in Ireland and consider the whole royal thing as nothing but an archaic institution stealing money from the needy.
Kinda like our bank bailouts and Fed lending. And again, done without a parade or a band.
Is it soup yet?
Have a Guinness or two :-)
“You don’t get to tell other people whether they can or not, or should or not.”
Humorous. She said while telling other people what they can or can not do.
Who shaves the barber who shaves all those in town, and only those in town, who don’t shave themselves?
Chelsea’s got to have a do-ever. Billary clearly didn’t spend enough money on her wedding.
The Royal Kiss is scheduled for 8:30 Central, I’m told. Followed by baby bump patrol. I hope Kate has a moderate dinner, lest the tabloids lose what little mind they have on the morrow.
Kiss the royal ass?
Barry kisses Wall Street’s ass about 12:00 noon.
The Pillow girls are waiting for the Kiss. A Kiss they must have to seal the deal.
It’s true that I don’t think we should be tolerant of intolerance. Intolerance leads to violence. Live and let live; my rights end where yours begin. I’m aware it’s a bit of a paradox.
I think mocking out the ugly rich is just fine.
The Russians had the right idea about these kind of people.
How unnecessary to rain on their parade….Vows sounds great with the British accent, imho….No tv here, but sound is nice.
I missed the Kiss!!!. Oh well. On to another great wasted spectacle, the American Court system when you have to appear with a client. They were robes there too and act like pompous asses, but I suppose that is much better than the Royal system, no? Not!!
We basically rescued the Brits during WWII and they did not invite the American President. It has nothing to do with the Obamas. It’s the sitting American president. There should be a gilded chair waiting in England for any American president to thank the US for helping to save their ‘royalty’ and subjects with US treasury and US blood during WWII. More and more Brits actually enjoy voting for the things in their realm. Here’s to more and more voting in England.
I’ll never take anything Attaturk posts seriously ever again!
The mind-numbing stupidity of the Royal Wedding
I agree – the wedding was not only done with precision and grandeur – pomp and circumstance – it had its cute moments.
Indeed the Middleton family, while not totally self-made rich, are well off because of a start up store that did well (the husband did inherit a few dollars – but at least it was not a Trump or Bush sized silver spoon). Diana was blue blood with a family that hung around the throne for at least 400 years, but this lady is as close to a “commoner” as we are likely to see a rich royal marry.
That said – I have the attention span of a pre-teen – and 6 hours is way, way, over the top. At least the next 12 hours of parties are closed to the press.
You just can’t beat a good wedding, even if it does have blue bloods involved! Great music, great setting (did everyone see the crypt/ tomb for Sir Issac Newton?) participants looked smashing and crowds loved it too and its their system.
By the way, where were the anarchists? I wondered if we would be seeing that and was curious. Hope they aren’t roughed up and imprisoned somewhere. Wonder if the networks purposefully looked the other way as there was not a protest in sight it seems, except here.
Seems the fellow that said he was holding a folding chair for Sarah did not make prime time either – I suspect the media did its editing so as to produce a good story – so anarchists news may have to wait for the next Guardian!
In any case, the wedding was a mood booster – my Tour of Westminster Abbey was many decades ago, and these weddings are my only glimpse of services there as I went to St Paul’s when I was over there. It is indeed a great setting – I noticed no one discussed sight lines from the outside seating (there are none! :-) ) – but the 3 boy’s choir’s voices were beautiful. It was just very well done.
This wedding coverage inspires me to call for a royal DADT, so we don’t have to endure “Toothy and Frowny” all day.
This proves insane amounts of money exploited from workers can’t buy happiness, but it helps you get there a lot more than poverty.
