Glenn Reynolds’ dipshitty ruminations on the birther idiocy provide a window into the mind of an absolute putz. Mr. B. Texan has mentioned this already but further spelunking into this cavern o’crap is instructive because it uncovers why he’s such a shithead.
The White House may think it’s sprung a trap, but I think they waited too long. By now — as the polls from earlier this week showing how many independents thought Obama wasn’t born here, and which probably prompted the release decision, indicate — the damage is done. Even if people change their minds on the issue, for many the residual suspicion will remain: The thought that regardless of where he was born, there’s something shady about him.
Plus, from the comments: “Media: admit it, Trump forced the issue. Now, don’t let the WH distract you w/the birth crt from what Bernanke says today. Stay focused.” It’s more about the gas prices and the milk. Media spin won’t change those.
This is really kinda slimy. “The nutty racist smear is untrue, sure, but the smear is still curiously effective, and it is all the fault of the victim of the smear, because he sure is acting shady about how he responded to getting smeared by using Media Spin.”
What a dick! And then he won’t even say firmly that the long form isn’t a forgery: “Plus, from the comments: ‘They’re not layers. Illustrator is simply able to interpret PDF image data and *present it to you* as layers.’ That would make sense, but I don’t know anything about Illustrator.” Gosh, interesting! I’m told it’s all bullshit, but the jury’s still out! Douche.
Two plus two may just be five, who knows!
Also, who knows if that “climate change” stuff is true, or if Saddam wasn’t really in cahoots with bin Laden, or if the GOP doesn’t truly want to gut Medicare and Social Security. Or, like, if Bradley Manning isn’t entitled to be considered innocent before being proved guilty….
I could stand living in a carnival nation if it were at least fun.

thersday!
Thersday!
Evening…
THERS!
Yeah and I’m told that Ussher was wrong and the Earth won’t be turning 6,015 next October 26th but I never took geology so the jury is still out.
Thersday!
The wingnuts will never believe he is qualified to be President because he is, well you know, one of those people and press response will be, “Shape of the World, Oopinions Differ.”
Clown Car…
THERS!
This Wingnuttia shit has been on full display in response to OilBomber’s much anticipated “Birf Sertifikat” episode.
These people are disgusting. Willful hate, racism, discrimination and fear. Disgusting and pathetic.
All those pictures from space of the round earf? Faked, just like the moon landing.
Powered by vitriol.
All done on a soundstage in Hollywood.
And the birthers scream about corn subsidies.
Oh, wait… he said vitriol…
Nevermind.
Seen on the net:
OMG I just can’t fucking believe all this. Hanging my head in hands.
You’re too kind. No, really.
Unfortunately bigotry doesn’t surprise me anymore but it never ceases to sicken me.
I think the Onion gets the win on this one…
Oh Margaret, so, so true.
There aren’t enough hands for this facepalm. My God, what a bunch of fucking assholes these people are.
Woody K linked to that on facebook earlier. Oh how I laughed!
You are right. I already typed fuck.
But, but, but . . . the merry-go-round and ferris wheel of the oligarchy are spinning at warp speeds as most of the rest of us fall off and crack our heads only to find, there’s no care available.
What’s not carnival about that?
As to recent Monsanto revelations and such they will ensure once we DO crack our heads, there’s food aplenty for all. Yep, recycle our dead, the ultimate Greening Of ‘MeriKa.
It’s all so soylenty.
LeSigh.
There’s a difference now. Before, these asshole politicians were pushing this birther nonsense for political gain.
Now it’s just racism and intolerance. Trump really just hates Obama because he’s black.
I think that’s pretty much inevitable. Trouble is, wingnuts don’t understand The Onion.
Oh hai thers.
You know, if I just have faith in the lord Jeebus and hold strong, and remember that those muslims deserved to die, everything will get magically better.
Because god’s plan is mysterious and your hooey carbon counter fraud science can’t take his mystical brilliance into account.
Also tax cuts makes baby Jeesus smile also too in addition to growing your economy as well yeah.
I’m in shock, really. How can this be happening? Fuck.
These people believe what they want to believe because it allows them to pretend that their rejection of the legitimacy of Obama’s presidency is not just all about racism.
Nah, under Cheyenne Mountain, next to the alien bodies.
Berkley Breathed called these people out almost thirty years ago when penguin evolution was on trial in Bloom County. The witness for the prosecution, (anti penguin evolution), said “Penguin evolution is a fib”, and before they could shut him up he went on to say, “The world’s not round either”. As they were dragging him away from the witness stand he was saying “…Yup, shaped like a burrito…”. Man! I laughed hard at that one as evidenced by the fact that I remember it so clearly all these years later but I’m not laughing now. Breathed was a prophet I think.
Bernie Sanders validating everything here, on JS the Daily Show now.
I like to picture my Jesus in a tuxedo tshirt because it says “Hey, I’m formal, but I’m here to party, too.”
How? Media consolidation, cable news, and Rupert Murdoch.
Oh thank you for that Thers! Outstanding.
My favorite cartoon — scared me shitless.
*G*
I miss them audio wise. Used to get The Onion Report daily from KPIG online (Santa Cruz/Freedom, CA) till the damned company started to charge for online streaming.
(mutters)
Here ya go!
So true. I only have cable because one can’t watch any tee vee without it. I want to move to Vermont.
Caught a brief glimpse of Tweety tonite sreaming back at a birther about all the things that were *possible* (it’s possible that the long form birf sertificat is a CIA forgery, or a photoshop) and was hoping he’d say that it was *possible* that monkeys would fly outta my butt. Ah well.
Suz- my daughter’s kitty survived the night and is more alert, but still looks pretty miserable. (both) G’nite!
They have a weekly friday night news show on IFC. It’s called The Fact Zone.
Hey Kris!
Oh so sad.
My bad. It’s here.
good news about the kitty — thanks for the update and g’nite cfit
In fact, here is that very panel!
Meanwhile, let’s not forget to offer our sincere thanks to the five biggest motherfuckers in Washington for giving away more of our rights to the corporations. To Roberts, Scalia, Thomas, Alito and Kennedy: in your little shriveled hearts, you know you’re all going to Hell.
Sounds like they have been listening to Fox.
Okay, I’m not giving you a drink since I brought it up.
Doonesbury n Bloom County, along with Calvin, were the greatest comic strips in the history of the genre IMHO.
Social gazes and evaluations were never so well done.
Good call on Bloom County. Opus, Milo, Bill (Aaakkkk! Thwwwpppttt!) The Cat . . . N Steve Dallas.
LeSigh. Miss them terrible.
It’s actually exactly like Fox down to the blonde anchor, Brooke Alvarez.
She’s hateful and self-centered and bigoted and mean. It’s dead on Fox.
Hey Pups,
Full of fire tonight, all my friends.
It is times like this when I wish I believed in hell, as well as a just god.
*g* Let me buy you one in 6 weeks or so and we’ll call it good.
Gotta love the defense of penguin evolution too.
Wingnuts are close to getting the Onion — they have a rudimentary grasp of vowels and are projected to begin to understand consonants by 3030.
If only we HAD a judge lie that somewhere anymore . . .
Great clip hoss. Made me smile, and I needed that.
Thanks!
*G*
Cool beans. :)
Still going for the low hanging fruitcakes at The Onion.
Thank Margaret and teh gewgul.
Colbert wants to know why there is no mention of Ed Sullivan on BO’s long form birth certificate.
With a mullet.
There are more than enough of them…
The Onion’s show on IFC this winter was brilliant — total devastation of cable teevee.
I don’t believe in either but I’ve decided that if there is a hell it’ll be worth going to watch all of the “Christian” hypocrites cook.
Dude – fucking Calvin and Hobbes. Oh, in my childhood. I loved that comic. I loved that comic so much that this one time, as an acting out rebellious sixth grader, I tried to game the system by doing a book project on a Calvin and Hobbes collection.
My teacher gave me a 0.
edit: Oh, and then it was on display in the classroom, with the 0 on it, with everybody else’s book projects. For two weeks.
I gotta love pretty much everything that ever came out of Breathed’s blessed pen.
OT, but further proof that there is a cosmic rift in the space-time contimuum. I got invited to dinner tonight at one of the sororities on campus and it is the second time this has happened this semester. Since when did sororities start inviting socialist hillbilly hippie evolutionists with earrings at almost 60 to dinner? I am still trying to process this.
True, that.
Best show in town, with a cast of millions.
I have 4 or 5 collection books :) I love Calvin and Hobbes.
What’s IFC?
N dammit, what’s the dude’s name now, I’ve forgotten it!
Sigh, it’s all slippin away from me as it all crumbles up into the dark. Bless Lee Oscar.
Same here. I wish I could have a cast-iron stomach when it comes to that but I just can’t.
I know of a long-planned party by the Lake of Fire, and I think this crowd would fit right in.
IFC is the Independent Film Channel. Cable movie network.
First one was better . . . *heartsopus*
I like C&H too. There was another comic strip that came out of UT that I liked called Eyebeam by Sam Hurt. It was wonderfully bizarre.
Sam Hurt’s website. Try dragging the cursor over the images.
Oh, I still have my C&H books too. At least a couple come off the shelf more than once a year ;)
*G*
That CA boy is FAST, fast I tell ya!
Good tho!
lol
Aside/OT, don’t ever quit on this forum, please. Even day times.
I need folks like you to comment to keep me sane from the occasional onslaught of paid operatives n loonz who occasionally try n spoil the reality most of us adhere to.
Or to keep me sane from the centrists, too for that matter. *G*
;-)
Hold Yer Head Up, High.
This is a real tattoo.
Yeah, the 5-4 today was ugly. I’m not sure I see the vague connect to Roe v. Wade that Bill Egnor shares at MyFDL, but the decision itself sucked.
I’m not so good at SCOTUS affairs n analysis, but Bill didn’t sell me on the connect. Perhaps others could expound on the ruling and where Roe v Wade fits in.
Comments so far (as of midday today CA) were not any more revealing . . .
Maybe they’re impressed by someone who’s honest.
I’m buyin for both of yas . . . belly up n order!
Oh god! Not Argent. Ugh! Nothing against the band but that song dredges up some bad memories. Now I’ll have to walk backward three times around a pile of salt on the floor while playing my cat like a set of bagpipes!
Nice. Kinda like Buddy Christ.
ICET(ea?) and Colbert. Pretty funny…
Comment Of The Week!
*confettiflies*
*firecrackerspop*
*peopledancecrazily*
Slides 20 yr. Glen Livett bottle down bar.
Funny!
That could be. Maybe it is just my hillbilly charm.
Run, Kuro, run!
This, my friend, is the tattoo you need.
Hey DrDick — almost semester end…
Not sure why the zero?
But yes, as a teen and early dult t I howled daily to Calvinball and The Tiger, as much as to Opus n Steve Dallas, and Mike, Zonker n Phred.
Good timuhs, n back then, we thought we had won something.
I think we did, but it slipped away from us, didn’t it.
Time for me to toddle off. Talking about sex and gender tomorrow. Take care all.
K, I’m back. Got lost in Eyebeam archives then ugly tattoos. Thanks Margaret and Thers.
Are they hittin on ya?
Is it a set up?
;-)
/paranoia
Night DrD
Bye DrDick!
g’nite dr dick
Ah, thanks. No cable here.
I loved C&H but always thought it was based on (an homage?) to Crusader Rabbit and Rags the tiger.
Don’t forget “The Far Side.”
Dang, I guess I should gone with some Zombies . . . my bad. lol
She’s actually laying on my foot at the moment.
‘Night, Dr D.
No prob. You didn’t know. That was a fucked up evening. :)
Why, thank ya ma’am.
How ya doin?
You been jugglin a lot lately . . . seems the dental stuff is slowly wrapped up?
Think I’m going to limp off to bed in disgusted defeat, wishing for a country that makes sense. Peace out, y’all!
Yer welcome. I’m off to the beddies too. Niters!
g’nite thers
I’d venture, outside of me, that’s the only Billy Jo Shaver to grace this forum. He’s great.
Speakin Of Hillbilly.
Is this anything like the sor sistahs?
*G*
Night Thers.
Yeah. Sad that Larsen is one of THE most protective of his images.
In this digital day and age . . . wish he had more of an Indie type artist attitude like so many bands do . . .
I don’t think it was the kind of book she had in mind. And she knew I was smart enough to know that.
I remember. I thought I’d have every opportunity in the world.
Didn’t work out that way.
Thanks for the link. We dodged the bullet here in TN when the
creationistAcademic Freedom bill was allowed to die — this year. (See MyDiary post for links to the TN Assebly debates.)Margaret, I had to reread your earlier post on the Allen Array to realize that you actually lost your job over its defunding. I’m sorry about that.
I agree with you that the space program provided us with lots of great things, like miniaturized electronics (transistors over vacuum tubes.) But our science programs often socialize the costs of an invention but privatize the profits (as with much of federally-funded drug research.) If the government were to retain patent rights to a lot of its research, many programs could pay for themselves.
For example, CRADAs (Cooperative Research and Development Agreements) were intended to assist small business in R&D, broadening our hi-tech reasearch base. In practice, though, large business interests have taken over, again socializing the costs and privatizing the profits, while failing to reward small business R&D.
Done, and done, thank the forces of nature. I swear, I will floss like a maniac until the day nature claims me.
Only thing I’ve learnt from it all, from SE Asia as a child in the 50′s/60′s, thru the 60′s n 70′s as a preteen, teen and young adult to now?
Change is constant, adapt or die.
And if you have any morals or care for humans, animals n the planet, the fight never stops. Never.
Ergo, adapt or die.
Lifes HARD! lol
Honestly. I thought it would get EASIER as I aged.
Hasn’t turned out that way.
N that’s why after I quit doin psychedelics n pot, I took up learning to play music decades later.
It keeps me sane.
Hope you got something healthy for ya to keep you sane, too.
BTW, that’s one very short sighted 6th Grade teacher, what a shame and waste of your POV then. N the nerve to showcase if after?
Double standard n shoulda been hauled into the principal;s office for doing so.
Harumph.
*G*
N I say that from a loss of a pulled tooth, another ground down that cracked, and over $6K in gum work including oral surgery.
Been there. Brutal.
What I got left is lookin good tho!
*G*
“Him? He ain’t bad, got most his teeth and still has hair!”
LOL
I didn’t lose my job because the Allen Telescope Array was defunded. I lost my job because CPDR (Center for Prostate Disease Research) was defunded but really does it matter? Both were sacrificed on the alter of austerity and “shared sacrifice” because everybody knows that buying a couple of extra tomahawks is more important than science.
Wow! No words?
Oh Margaret. Fuck.
A heartbeat away… (is that Joe’s punishment?)
Superb! And hey! My teeth are looking pretty beautiful! Only cost 4 thousand dollars!
Thot I sayed it all, ma’am.
*G*
lol
Hey, if ya got the money (we did at the time) use it, ya can’t take it with ya.
*G*
Kisses, Laure (don’t tell your Lady)
Gonna go to bed and dream that I got a new job. That’s all I have left. Oya.
g’nite margaret
Thinking of you Margaret.
Suzanne!
You are here…
I didn’t get real pissed about it at the time. I was a good student. It didn’t ruin me. It didn’t even occur to me at the time to challenge it, even though it had occurred to me to try it in the first place.
Funny you should mention adapting. I have a liberal arts degree, graduated in 2007, and I don’t command enough in salary to keep up with my living expenses and the student loan payments. So I’m adapting. The thing I took up recently is learning Arabic. Once I stuck with it solid for a month, 1-2 hours a day, I knew it would last. I’ve tried a dropped a lot of things before. But I’m keeping with this. It’s fascinating, it’s totally cool, and when you put the work in it comes fast enough to create a positive feedback loop. Does that make sense?
It’s valuable personally and, potentially, finanically. And now that I’ve declared that project publicly I’m that much more accountable, eh?
where else would i be :)
Having a dodgy prostate myself, I would welcome any research in that area. Defunding research such as yours, or any valid medical research is just wrong. Perhaps it clashed with the goals of the makers of my very expensive prostate drugs.
Heh! Just trying to adjust to MRCE in Phila. for a week, and MsCE at Furniture Forum in DE. And I’m here — where else would I be (probably being a better daughter to my old mother…).
i’m off grammy duty until the weekend after this one — jen’s dad is coming up tomorrow to see his grandaughter so grandpa will be pulling grammy duty
Heh, I hide nothing, I do nothing to hide from.
*smooches*
Wedding plan pulling ahead. Good for them!
Knowin how to speak Arabic can prove to be incredibly lucrative.
Sadly, the first few ways I can think of are in service to our country n that would mean in support of our war efforts, regardless how noble your intents might be.
On the other hand, speaking Arabic here in USA would mean you have entry to a population many others don’t, in terms of sales, marketing, PR, and more.
Good luck, language fluencies are a gateway to new occupations, travel and cultural exposure and understanding. Very kewl OO.
when we went to ca for jen’s baby shower, we all stayed at her dad’s house. we get along great but i figure they doesn’t need me competing for baby time while up here. will be his first time seeing little jujube since she was born
Oh, family life is so difficult.
Hey Suz, enjoy all yer comments about the new lil grand one and her mom n family. Thanks for sharing.
You mentioned town called Greeley, somewhere recently.
Is that in CA or CO or OR?
stephanie is in greeley colorado
Ah, thanks.
Greeley is a town we go thru on Hwy 132 from Modesto up to the Strawberry Fest off of 120 just 13 miles outside of Yosemite Gate.
THAT would have been a worldly coincidence! lol
Been two and a half years now, 5 fests. 6 coming this Memorial Weekend, we’ve not been there.
Sniff. Miss it.
probably mentioned it last week or last night talking about steph flying in to pdx this past weekend to see her niece for the first time — she flew back to CO monday
Insanity…thy name is Republican, with a birther twist.
Whatever one may think of President Obama, he definitely has class. He’s a classy guy. And compared to the Republicans, he has more class than all of them combined.
Yes Vitriol. The Greasy way to keep yourself slimy all day. !
Ya’ll know what Cokie says about evidence free slurs: It’s out there.
Here’s another example of the “Why didn’t he act sooner?” meme –
