Great day. Old foggies tellin story’s. Went for a cruise on the electric trike….Wind in hair-no gloves! what could be better. Sad though now that it runs perfect i must sell so i can build a new one.
If Bonnie Rait were darker, if Courtney Love were more humane, if Bob Dylan was still worth listening to, if we turned off OJ Simpson long enough to hear the noise we’re making, we would find out that we still sound like Joni Mitchell. Not exactly lost and alone, but certainly baffled and embittered and struggling valiantly to make sense.
Just because Joni sounds cool, doesn’t make her right, particularly in context of the early-mid ’90s.
That song was def NOT HELPFUL in terms of gay people’s struggles. So like the song, but just understand that fact.
MrCE is going to a conference this week in Philadelphia — “The Language of Pain and Illness.” MsCE is speaking at Furniture Forum at the Winterthur Museum, and I’m going on a hen trip to Columbus to antique. Spring IS here!
The rest of the corporate stuff applies. But that “Sex Kills” thing was very hurtful at the time, particularly when we gay people were all talking about “Dumb Kills” where people didn’t know what was actually going to kill them.
And that’s true today too. Sex won’t kill you, and neither will advertising. A person’s lack of knowledge will. In both cases.
Evening all, doing a driveby after a most awesome weekend with our Finnish relatives-thru-love and their friends.
I’m not a fan of Sex Kills. I’m only a marginal fan of Joni. However, when she nailed it, she nailed it.
Not too many can say that!
Yep. It’s “Punish Women First” and then – whatever happens, happens, kids.
A ridiculous way of looking at what is really a spectrum of humanity.
I’m always so amused and happy that my straight male friends never have one problem at all hugging me and telling me they love me. There’s only about 5 of them, but they’re menschen.
The rest of the “acquaintance” crowd is so worried about status. I always poke them about it.
“Punish The Women” is a comfortable theme in Empire. It is a simple theory and the reason I chose to give up my cooking career and homeschool.
The Mother is the Enemy of the State. Remove the child from the mother as soon as the nurturing of infancy is done. And no later. From the Breast to the State. Break the Bond.
You mean the spill was overdue. Certainly, it was. So, was the flooding of New Orleans by the Army Corp of Engineers. But it does seem to be “overkill”, doncha know.
Here in the beautiful Puget Sound with her Oil refineries and her Nuclear Subs that stray up our waterways out of their “designated” areas, live volcanoes, major quake faults and……Americans For Prosperity and our local Dem boy sponsoring a Union Busting bill. I’m looking at you, Jeff Morris.
So, anyhoooo, we had an awsome day of glorious sunshine and no wind to celebrate the birthdays of 5 Taurus people. They created the coolest Birthday song, so much fun to sing. Might have to ask someone to post it on Youtube.
But,…islanders don’t do that, too much.
Joni’s many voices, her multitude of git tunings she has used, and her largesse for knowing music n music theory have been a most captivating center of attention for many of us thru the decades.
This was a GREAT vid, CT, ya nailed one hard.
Bless that woman n all her work we grew up on.
She plays fine dulcimer too. On many of her earlier albums.
She’s a gift, thanks for highlighting her on LLN CT.
Be Here Now.
Also, an old man told me this when I was young, ” Time is all you have.”.
It took me 25 years to finally understand what he meant. I think.
Well, the better half is snoozing away at my side…! After another slice of pudding pie, I think I’ll be out soon too…! Mahalo, for the great conversation tonite and I hope to see ya’ll tomorrow nite…! Aloha Oe…! *g*
p.s. OT I’m diving back into fucking studying what’s happening in my state of Wa, my county of Skagit.
Fucking Kockroaches are glittering the local mini-politics and we all need to wake the FFFFFFUUUUCCKKK UUUPPPP.
Was that too weird?…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..?
Tuttle!! Aloha my friend ☺
hiya CT, nahant – happy easter
This is outstanding, tuttle.
Tut!
Happy Easter to everyone, CT and PPDCUS. I cooked lots of vegetables today to serve with crabcakes.
Aloha, nahant…!
Aloha, PPD…!
Aloha, newt…! Mahalo…!
CT, I’ve loved Joni for decades…
Aloha, CE…! I had a great family get together today…!
Wonderful! What did you cook?
Totally mixed feelings about this song. I distinctly remember the early ’90s when it came out, and I was fucking pissed off at her.
Evening Tut an all. Is it ok to say this was a nice day? LN got a bit testy.
Btw, Ya’ll… I’m also totally stoked that my Cardiac Sox had just swept the Angels today, 4 games, and on the road…! They’re baaack…! ;-)
Aloha, homeroid…! It’s all good…! ;-)
How’s the 49th state tonite…?
hiya CE – hope you had a great family day
Hey Kelly,
I have to admit, I have never heard this, and probably not much after the 1980′s.
Our wee little family of three had a great day. We gathered for the Sunday rituals of laundry, and cooking, and nail polish.
Joni’s been bringing it for an awful long time now…! ;-)
If anyone remember the movie, “Marley and Me” — the film made at my brother’s house, it is now for sale. Let’s see if I can leave the link here…
Watch out for those nail polish fumes, CE — they may make the laundry go faster, but what a hangover the next morning!
What pissed ya off, Kelly…?
Heh, heh! I have to admit, MsCE, and the fact that my nails peeled off like tissue paper made me nail lacquer obsessed.
Great day. Old foggies tellin story’s. Went for a cruise on the electric trike….Wind in hair-no gloves! what could be better. Sad though now that it runs perfect i must sell so i can build a new one.
Relevant in 1970; but ’94? I agreed with this review:
Just because Joni sounds cool, doesn’t make her right, particularly in context of the early-mid ’90s.
That song was def NOT HELPFUL in terms of gay people’s struggles. So like the song, but just understand that fact.
That’s a gorgeous house, CE…! Wasn’t Marley ‘buried’ at the base of that tree on the front lawn…?

Only in the movie… but my brother’s dogs were never buried there. You can see the collie he had, Beryl, sitting in the drive. Loved her.
Joni in 1967
your own personal antiques roadshow, CE
I hear ya…! I was already married(’90), and, a father in ’92…!
Really! Those Edmonson people are pretty keen. I’m an Ennis, not so much.
Something more up my alley.
Not the response I was expecting — antiques? I’m much to young for that roadshow!
Nice, newt…! Three legends… I Shall Be Released…
Aloha, TG…! Definitely picks up the pace a bit…! ;-)
I said up front; mixed feelings.
Even today, our Sex Education is still mired in the ’50s mindset…! I still blame the religious fundies zealous crusade against all things sexual…! 8-(
Too much ethereal, slow shit lately. You’ve been ignoring my emails, too :-P
Anybody see Treme tonight?
Alright, how about tomorrow’s LLN I feature some of ‘em…! Deal…? ;-)
Aloha, Senator…! How was your Easter…!
I did! Loved it.
The music was fantastic.
Easter was great. I saw Treme.
Senator!
Missed it.
Deal!
The music is the backbone of the series. Makes me feel all kind of ways.
It is on again all week long.
Yes. It makes me cry.
Especially, after the spill. Who would have thought that something worse could happen so soon in that part of the country?
Evening all, doing a driveby after a most awesome weekend with our Finnish relatives-thru-love and their friends.
I’m not a fan of Sex Kills. I’m only a marginal fan of Joni. However, when she nailed it, she nailed it.
Not too many can say that!
I am trying to find out the name of the singer who was with the violinist. Can’t find it anywhere.
What good has happened at all really/

Really?
It is late, and I’m a little confused. Night all!
My eldest is a Lesbian and I’m very proud of her and how far she’s gone…! *g*
Sweet dreams, CE…!

@CE, @ MaryMc
Do you know this aria from Manon Lescaut? Manon is Alone, Lost, Abandoned outside New Orleans.
Sola perduta abbandonata
No, but I am listening to it now. Thanks, Kelly.
Aloha, open…! How’s the Sound tonite…?
Yes, really. Call me precocious. It was sitting right out there.
Loose Marbles
The Sound is full of happy, reconnecting and awesome Islanders. As is the Sounds way. *g*
You mean the spill was overdue. Certainly, it was. So, was the flooding of New Orleans by the Army Corp of Engineers. But it does seem to be “overkill”, doncha know.
What a cool clip, loved the lady dancing alongside too…! ;-)
I wish I could dance like that.
