About Firedoglake
Wow,
I just couldn’t get here for minutes!
hey ce — it has been working fine for me — what kinda problem were you having?
how’s ohio tonight?
I AM Sukey Tawdry!
Hey!
hey kelly — how’s denver tonight?
in honor of earth day…. mother earth
Love dem muppets! Hi Suz and CE.
hey loohoo — how’s socal tonight?
It’s very dark tonight, but pleasant. Cooler than I’d like, but hey, no tornados. Hey to Kelly and off to see Mother Earth linky.
i had my first run around the house barefoot day today. got up into the high 60′s and i had both the front and back door open to give the house a good airing out. tomorrow supposed to be even better — but the rain returns sunday
Another Mother Earth
hey margot — how was your day? i like that!
Evening Suz and all. Cant find words enough for Earth day but will quote my dear sainted mom”Leave a place better than you found it” Wish i could.
In the morn we have local recycle electronics day as to keep those pesky metals out of our waters. It will cost but well worth it to get rid of the old computer and other such things.
hey homeroid — how’s homer tonight?
Heh. I have no idea how Denver is tonight, much as I love it.
I have had the worst week evah in my life.
* Laid off on Monday
* Found out my younger brother is in Blackwater/XE on Tuesday
* Boiler goes bust on Wednesday, again
* Mother-in-law needs a pic-line on Thursday
* Belch’s left foot is somehow fucked up, worried about insurance ending 4/30
Just the highlights. There’s more. But it’s boring.
What is remarkable is how well I have slept since after Tuesday night. I am literally shocked how fine I feel after all this. I have been so worried about the upcoming lay-off, for weeks, that now that it’s happened? I’m all OK about it and the rest of the stuff happening.
Hey Loo Hoo, and Margot too!
How are you? We are watching Shakespeare here… Michael Wood.
jeebus kelly — fuck fuck and fuck — it just has gone from bad to worse ohmystars i’m so sorry dood
(((kelly)))
but its good you are sleeping well
Fuck.
Breaking: Asteroid headed for Rocky Mountain region, expected touchdown Saturday.
/doesntgetthedrift
Dude, I’m sorry about your recent fortunes.
Suz!
Nice that you got to air the house out, Suz. That’s always delightful.
AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Suzanne:
Hey there Sweet Pea, are ya practicin’ your “gramma” moves? We been busier’n fat rats in a cheese factory up here in Cheeseland…our senate district is the reddist of those that have filed recalls so far and Sister Sheila is tryin’ her damndest ta find a place ta hide but those folks who voted for her over the years are scarcer’n Nazis in Berlin in 1946….JEEzus, this politics thingie is gettin ta be more fun than I’ve had since I taped a bullseye on my 4th grade teacher’s back.
Are there any Firepups out there in Michagan or Ohio who can report in on what’s goin’ down in their states? I’m thinkin’ that if we get some action goin’ in Ohio and Michigan and maybe even Indiana we might get some politicians in DC a little nervous.
Keep the tunes cranked up and the conversation hot and…
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, THIS WAR WILL NOT BE TELEVISED (except on rachel maddow)!!
hey newton — how’s the west bay tonight?
Rainy, thunder and lightning, dog right here under my feet poor thing. It’s Mud Season:)
hi Chris and Loo Hoo and everyone, it’s a treat to see you guys.
hey norske — i’m going back for more tomorrow :) and my other daughter has flown in for the weekend so i’ll see both my girls *and* get my grammy fix. have ya had any fishing time or is politics taking all your time dood?
This week is so full of “odd.”
I find out my brother in Xe is remarried; had a baby last month. So did his daughter/my niece Lindy. So I’m a Great-Uncle now too. But Jimmy is a Grandpa and a new Dad same month.
I also have a newly found half-sister. Turns out my mom had a secret love child when I was 2 years old. Communications with her are a bit sketchy, but I’m inclined to believe.
It really has been the weirdest and hardest week of single issue details I ever thought to have had.
Shocking THUNDER right now!
Dang. Something about the bad luck. It’s wonderful that you’re taking it alright.
twitter handle?
jeebus — everything, and i mean everything, went topsy turvy …
Clouds but no rain yet-we need rain! I got the replacement LIFE PO 4 battery sent from LiPing in China and my faith in humanity has improved -somewhat. Warranty from China scares me somewhat.
sweet — that replacement battery came pretty quick too!
Wow! Trifecta.
twitter comprehension.
on the plus side, kelly, it all came out in one week as opposed to dribbling out week after week after week.
trying to find some fucking lemonade here
I am so sorry Kelly. Please man, stay in touch.
Nice here, right now. Getting alternating days/nights between too cold to leave the windows open, and too warm to sleep.
Typical Peninsula Spring.
I’m all cool with it. I’ve always known what Carville said was true:
After Monday, I made a deal with myself to not really give a shit about anything for a week. I’m keeping to that.
I really know what my priorities are, and that’s useful.
Quick! That twitter handle still exists.
Evening all!
Dropping by to let pups know that there’s close to 90 minutes with Ha-Joon Chang the author of Sunday’s book on The Real News Network. In the interest of giving folks a chance who don’t have time to read or get the book may still have time to watch a few clips and still get prepped
Here’s a link to pt 6 of 7 so far

Always liked reanews and Paul Jay in particular.
Independent, thoughtful, hyperinformed.
I’ve been meaning to put a link somewhere but hadn’t figured out I can just do it here. I’ll try in the morning to offer it to one of the morning threads too.
Hope all are well.
:)
They were good with the photo of it all blown up in my yard and honored the warranty. I sent them the circuit board and the faulty charger. $900 battery returned. Like i said i did not ever expect that. Guess i am to used to the American way.
when life hands ya a week like you’ve had, tis for the best. tis a way of keeping your sanity through it all — one that i’ve used before with success
Citizen Suzanne:
Ah, great!! …you’ll have 3 generations a sisterhood all in the same spot, what a treat!
We’re gettin taped up for our annual Lake of the Woods Walleye hunt but the weather (snow) has been fuckin’ with the spawn up north and we’re goin a little later in June this year than we usually go so…oh well, at least my son and I get my oldest daughter’s fiancee in the boat this year so we’ll catch SOMEthin’ even if it’s a little hell and a bad cold.
The politics thing is really a gas and now that Mrs. Norske has made the decision to retire instead of takin’ anymore bullshit, we have a special focus for our organizin’ efforts. I haven’t been this pumped up about anything political since the cops hit the baracades on Washington Ave. in 1970. I’m relearnin’a lotta stuff I didn’t know I’d forgotten and it’s REALLY wonderful watchin’ these college kids and young teachers educatin’ their parents…no matter what happens in the next two months, politics in this state will never be the same.
hey ks — how ya doing tonight?
I am not going anywhere/away. You’re frikking stuck with me!
sounds like its keeping ya and the mrs busy and you guys are enjoying the hell outta it dood. ya gotta keep us posted on what you are seeing since ya have boots on the ground, norske.
Sorry to hear about you and everyone’s tough week.
Crazy as it may seem and dunno how peeps may think of this ,
but it’s the Chinese year of the rabbit: hunkering down, mending fences, clearing debris that’s held over from before, finding stillness.
So I’m hope this is all necessary and a helpful to clear away what was before and getting ready for what’s to come.
tis a sad sad day when the chinese have better warranties than american companies
Thing is it’s a family deal here. My attitude today is the same as it was when ES posted this a couple years ago
have you seen the stars tonight?
Some things require breathing. The rest is just the flow. I have been looking for a job for over 40 years, i have always found work. :)
Apropos of nothing, I am here to report definitively, based on a sample size of one, that the attraction cats have for baskets of clean laundry is *not* the freshly-dried warmth, but the fact that it’s clean. Marlowe, my elder cat, jumped into the basket of damp, coolish laundry I was hanging up to dry, giving me stink eye every time I pulled an item out to hang. She’s done it before, I’ve just now chosen to take the meaning.
I’m great tonight, getting an early or late start depending on time frame.
Also great to see Norske. Always a breath of fresh air bringing news from the thick of it up north. Thank You for all you do.
i love that video dood…. as i do this one
mine was family too…. that we all get through it is all that matters
Ahh. True. You win my internets today.
hey vc — how’s your island tonight? token prefers the clothes still warm from the dryer… and if that’s not available, he looks for lingerie
Sister Suzanne:
I been promisin to write up a whole bunch of experiences but things have been movin’ so fast and our household is kinda nuts with Mrs. Norske jugglin’ teachin her last year, wedding planning, and kickin’ some of her colleagues where it does some good…and anyways I ain’t sure who I want to write it for since we’re all doin this thing together now.I talked to my son the English teacher about writin’ some a this stuff up journal-style to maybe see what grows out of it but maybe I just need ta take some a the time up north at night when the boys are sleepin it off and just do it. I can tell ya that I am really understandin some a the liturgy from Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young now. Peace on ya Sister Suzanne…give the grandbaby a squeeze for me.
Damn Kelly! (((((((((()))))))))
i will give her two norske
it can be informal too yanno — just letting us know in the comments what’s going on. would make a fantastic series of myfdl diaries but egad, you are so busy!
hey sunny — how was your day?
meow!
Warmish and no Trades, but quite acceptable. It’s a little cooler than it was a few days ago, when I was thinking I might have to turn the ceiling fan on to sleep. I have to close the windows when I drop the blinds, as I’m one of those who needs it DARK to sleep properly.
And sympathies to Kelly – losing a job is still a blow, even when you’ve been expecting it (as with my first downsizing). Sorry about your brother working for Xe. Ouch. And sorry about the boiler and health issues.
I hadn’t heard the part of Rabbit having to do with hunkering down and stillness. Good stuff.
the ballad of evil kitty, from lint! the musical
Here’s to EARTH day http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=brent+mydland+we+can+run&aq=9&oq=brent+mydland+
didja mean this video.. that link was to your search
Suz, my day was pretty good. Completed some cosmetic rehab here and mercifully the color choices panned out ok. I’ve screwed that up in the past.
Wall paint wasn’t right ….. who would have anticipated paint companies actually change the color formulas while retaining the old name (Sherwin-Williams/Duron) Feh! But the carpet made it work… Luckily I selected that late in the game.
they changed it and kept the old name? egad *eyes rolling* good thing the carpet made it work. is that the end of the rehab or do ya have more planned?
Thanks Suz i was comin from a place different. I will learn this thing soon. Promise.
there was a disry here at the turn of the year but now I can’t find it.
So much has happened ion such a short time. Maybe I’m just more linked in than usual ;-)
Did you move or upgrade your existing place?
evening, Suzzzz … firegods
many folks have learned how to do links here in the comments at lln
and loohoo as the best how to embed a link step by step i’ve seen
hey ppd — how ya doing tonight?
There are a lot of other famous renditions of Mack the Knife. I’m partial to Bobby Darin’s, especially from his shows at the Copacabana. Here is an early one.
Several years ago, Kevin Spacey produced, directed and starred in a Bobby Darin biopic. Here is his version of Darin, in his own voice; he has the mannerisms and the period feel down pat.
hey earl — wow, that’s amazing.. i had not seen the spacey cover… wow
how ya doing tonight?
pretty good, thanks – how are you tonight, Suzzz?
I thought that was the coolest song. I remember being 5 and snapping my fingers, trying to imitate Bobby Darin. I think I worried my parents.
I Love the Night Life
Probably slightly better than Kelly. Happy Earth Day.
i’m doing well — token’s snoozing as is bailey cat — in their usual spaces. tis a peaceful night here on the bay
hey robert — how’s soPA tonight?
oh dear — only slightly?
Thanks. My older bro is in the hospital and i am linking tunes to him as things come up-er ideas. i am not good to do more than one thing at one time on this here contraction.
Relaxing with green tea and lemon cake and checking out the comments of the Late Late Night FDLers….
oh my — hope he is well on the road to recovery and home soon
Aloha, Suz and LLN pups…! Still nobody does it like the original…! ;-)
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight? check out the spacey cover earl left upthread…
Yes. They changed the colors while retaining the old names. True of both the major and the trim color. Who would dream they’d do anything that stupid. The supply of potential names is hardly finite.
Both paint company and painters seemed surprised when I went ballistic :-/ And I did, BIG TIME.
News to me that one should copy the formulas from the old paint cans, not the names. My new colors are much lighter – lower contrast than the old ones. Fortunately, my furniture is slip covered in off-white, so it’s not a disaster.
So you’re getting up before the crack ‘o noon tomorrow, to get your latest fix in…? ;-)
i wudda gone ballistic too…. thank goodness for carpet and slip covers
u betcha tut — both my girls and my grandbaby :) token’s going to the doggie day care — his bff bean lives there (there’s a picture of bean at the link — he looks a lot like token just a wee bit bigger)
Of course you’d go ballistic. What idiots!
changing the formulation and using the old name — betcha the fool that thought that one up is the same fool that thought of that new coke crap
This?
And that old Tut’s back in tooooooowwwwnn.
that’s it! thanks loohoo
Thank you.
Bestt wishes on the bro.
If you’re a fan of Kevin Spacey – I thought L.A. Confidential was a great adaptation of a tough-to-make book – this clip has him doing six or eight imitations from his Actors Studio interview. His Christopher Walken is fabulous; I’m a fan of his Gielgud.
congrats on snagging the happy lucky 100th comment, earl!!!
*heh* But, the crack o’noon…? Horrors…! ;-)
That’s kewl tho… the mom-to-be is visiting tomorrow and Easter Sunday, too…! Btw, in another couple of weeks, the Eldest(in Ohio) will be here for a couple of weeks…! Snoopy dance…! ;-)
woohoo tut! how long has it been since you have seen your eldest? i haven’t seen steph since my birthday this past october and the time before that was august of the year before that. good thing she’s on my cell phone plan and our calls are free to each other
earl, he’s forking amazing… like the guy said, if ya close your eyes….
Congrats EOH.
Loo Hoo… It was just cosmetic. I’m in a condo flat and our building caught fire last summer. I also quit smoking last summer, so there were lots of smoke issues. The new paint and carpet took care of most of it. But I’m still finding spots and items that need attention.
Way cool. One of my names for Marlowe is Evil Kitty (or Eeeevul Kitty).
Dayum. Big boom that startled Nani Wai (younger cat, 13 mos). Out of season firework? One of my friends reported one of his near neighbors was celebrating New Year’s Eve by filling balloons with his welding gas and attaching lit cigarettes as a fuse. Explained the big booms and no light show.
Should have been congratulating you, ct!
Dang! Should be congratulating you too, SN! Hard to quit smoking…
bailey cat is a rescued feral whose mom was killed by a bobcat. she was bottle fed and i got her at 6 months. she is very skittish and her name comes from her propensity to take foot bail whenever anyone comes over. she’s the reason token thinks he’s part cat
Huh. I just taught my dog how not to be afraid of thunder. It involves cookies!
bribery! i wish token was bribe-able — he’s so forking food suspicious
’bout time for me to turn back into a pumpkin folks. thanks for letting me hang out with ya tonight
hope to see ya tomorrow night for sat nite cartoon — i’ll be hosting from jen’s kitchen table
g’nite all
Last time I’d seen the Eldest was about three yrs ago when she’d headed off for her Master’s degree on the Mainland…! ;-)
Pleasant dreams, Suz…! Have an awesome day, and, I look forward to tomorrow’s LLN…! *g*
Mahalo, Loo Hoo…! *g*
Huh. Marlowe was feral born, discovered by a coworker yelling in the ivy at lunch break at about 10 days. I wound up with her. Bottle baby, and, despite her Siamese looks, not much of a talker. Once, when she was still quite small, I heard a splashing noise coming from the bathroom. I’d had an inch or two in the tub to soak some silt off a cat carrier, and she’d climbed up to investigate (another of my names for her is Miss Snoopy Nose), and fallen in. The splashing was her leaping for the tub rim, not making it, and falling back. Not a peep out of her the whole time. I hadn’t thought she could leap high enough to get in in the first place, or I would have closed the door. She’s my miracle kitty, several times over. She had a terrible urinary infection about 4.5 years ago, renal failure, 50% chance of surviving that, then on release from (expensive!) emergency hospital, not expected to live a year. I’ve been giving her subcutaneous fluids ever since, and she’s still going strong.
Trouble Coming Every Day

Good morning, pups. It’s Collins, Blow and Nocera today. Ms. Collins has a question: “Wanna Buy a Turnpike?” and says just look at the changes taking place thanks to all the angry new governors. Mr. Blow, in “Of Donald, Dunces and Dogma,” says the destructive game Donald Trump is playing, and its welcome on the right, only exposes the flaws in American ideology and further corrodes the Republican brand. Mr. Nocera has a question in “Sewers, Swamps and Bachus:” Why did Spencer Bachus, chairman of the Financial Services Committee, introduce legislation to delay the regulation of derivatives?
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got French toast made with challah today. Just to let you know — tomorrow I’ll be either very early or very late, depending on how conscious I am at about 4:00. I’ve got to be alert, vested and ready to sing at 5:30, and then after the Easter Vigil we have breakfast and then the 10:00 service. Have a great day.
The 2009 movie “A Prophet” http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1235166/ contains this version, by Jimmie Dale Gilmore http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICRbinSuwcU and a terrific supporting performance by Niels Arestrup. The version at youtube doesn’t run 8:20, instead more like 6:20.
