Good Morning, All
From the first link, Don Higson, a retired Australian nuclear safety specialist, was more pithy.
“To my mind, [rating Fukushima equivalent to Chernobyl] would be nonsense,” he said.
Well, that comment might be more concise, but it doesn’t really explain much to my satisfaction. Nor does the comment calm my nerves.
And a spokesman for Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco), which runs the plant, suggested it could even end up being worse than Chernobyl.
Well, that means it’s going to be MUCH worse than Chernobyl.
Because of the radical differences between the events in Russia and Japan that particular scientist makes that claim. It is OK to think him full of shit.
Good morning all and thanks for the post, BT.
I just don’t understand why he was even quoted in the article. Hmmmm, maybe he sounded more authentic on the phone, with his accent and all.
Eh, too much full of shit going around for my tastes. *g*
Oh that comes down to “population”, econobuzz.
The Russians were, essentially, “rustic rubes” ill-served by the technical class, who didn’t, themselves, really understand what had truly happened and its implications, whereas the Japanese are a “sophisticated and densely packed” people who will be —– served by a technical class who will do what they are told to do and say what they are told to say … and who among the “leadership”, anywhere, really cares, any longer, to actually “understand” and share that understanding with hoi paloi?
Good morning, all. May the rest of our collective days be better … and more humane.
Mornin’, BT, pups
Trump as an independent? Are we looking at a Regressive Nader? Prolly be more interesting to watch his antics than listen to Obama’s bullshit lies.
Good morning, BT and pups! (BT, the word is “whimper.” /grammarnazi)
I highly recommend lobster’s post about the nuclear situation, which is going from bad to worse, if that’s possible.
On the other hand, the eagle babies are awake and hungry!
Snark On//”I have looked and looked and searched and searched, and I still haven’t found that safe level of ionizing radiation you were telling me about.”//Snark Off.
Good Morning, Mr. Bartoo
I have missed talking to you. Hope all is well. How’s the writing going? Are you being excellent?
Nuke boosters are insane, batshit crazy.
It,s time to lock them away as they are cancer carriers able to destroy life on earth.
Sure am glad the storm passed the nest by. Watched the wind against the mom/dad’s feathers. Scary.
Hey there, Molly. You crack me up.
I saw that you signed up for more volunteer work. Good for you! And, good for them, too.
Isn’t it amazing how animals in the wild deal with weather? Sometimes my cat doesn’t even come in the house when it’s raining.
Hiya Demi! Yeah, I walked a neighborhood knocking on doors and handing out literature for my ortho doc who is running for Common Council (I’m not in his district and can’t vote for him). I have never done anything like that and it was fun. Ran into a couple of folks on my route who said, “OH, he was my surgeon for my _____” And he isn’t taking either donations OR the $20K salary that comes with the job — will donate it back to the city for a jobs program. Good man!
From the Donald:
As for foreign policy, Mr. Trump said he is “only interested in Libya if we take the oil,” and that if he were President, “I would not leave Iraq and let Iran take over the oil.” He remains sharply critical of the Chinese, asserting that as President, “I would tell China that you’re either going to shape up, or I’m going to tax you at 25% for all the products you send into this country.”
This statement alone tells me all I need to know about Trump’s alleged run. It also tells me loads about the useless state of the establishment media in America that they waste so much time on this showgirl.
But as long as they actually take him him seriously do you suppose any media outlet will ask this con artist if he is willing to get a few thousand more Americans killed in Irag when the Sadr militia takes up arms again? Or who exactly the “we” is with regards to taking Libyan oil? Don’t hold your breath waiting.
As for the 25% tariff on Chinese goods; hell I’m all for that. But I know it will never happen as long as the corporations run the parties/government.
Mr. Trump said he thought he “could possibly win as an independent,” adding, “I’m not doing it for any other reason. I like winning.”
That’s why he runs gambling houses, because the house always wins.
If Trump runs the country like a casino, we all win. Right?
I love watching the parents feed their little brood. I also watched the PBS special last night and it was really interesting. I didn’t realize bald eagles were endangered for awhile because of hunting and DDT.
Morning BT & Firekids:
So an upgrade to 7 on a scale of 7, huh? So will we now be extending the scale to 11? (“This goes to 11…”)
Has anyone heard any more about the WI Supreme Court brouhaha since the “discovery” of the extra 14,000 votes?
That’s exactly what I was thinking when I read lobster’s post. Then I read the linked article and the retired scientist nuclear safety specialist who says it’s not at all as severe as Chernobyl. (I ain’t buying THAT!!)
Surprisingly enough, the MS legislature has adjourned without authorizing a Nathan Bedford Forrest commemorative license tag. As far as I can tell. You will recall that this was an “issue” for about 30 milliseconds 1 day 2 months ago. No doubt the librul gnashing of teeth and rending of garments caused all the racists down home to tremble, and then reconsider.
Gail Collins of the NYT called him a “financially embattled thousandaire.” Really pissed him off. So how long before he has to restructure / file BK again? I don’t really give a shit, just so long as that poor little animal on top of his head is spared the indignity. Maybe he could do the right thing (for once in his life) and donate it to a wildlife preserve.
Shoto, did you read The Donald’s rebuttal in the NYT? It was almost an unintentional parody.
Donald Trump Responds
Last I heard was the Dem election official that the GOP and media were saying had confirmed the mistake put out a statement saying that was bullshit and she had confirmed/validated nothing.
Grover Norquist on MSNBC this morning bragging that “shared sacrifice” is a non-starter (guess Obama’s speech tomorrow will be another con-job, big surprise).
Seems 235 House Representatives and 40 Senators have signed the Norquist pledge – “Tax Protection” that says they will NEVER vote for a tax change that increases Federal Revenue from taxes.
So as usual Obama is giving away to the GOP in tomorrows speech before he negotiates with the GOP on those social service cuts –
Norquist really likes the GOP’s planned change of Medicaid, food stamps, etc into state controlled funds from the Federal Government (block grants – which is the way Reagan killed all federal aid to mental health in Aug 1981), saying that it is similar to the 1990′s welfare reform (it is not similar, but who on Morning Joe is going to call him a liar?).
He also likes ending Medicare and replacing with welfare checks to insurance companies via voucher subsidies of insurance company premiums, plus he likes ending all defined benefit plans – public sector unions, social security, etc. – and changing them to defined contribution plans where the worker takes all investment risk like bank blow-up and where experience has shown that you get a population of aged poor every time. There was no discussion of fairness – or of folks paying into the programs over the years and getting nothing out – or of Social Security financing the tax cuts for the rich with the rich refusing to pay back the loan – or anything beyond a dismissal of the rich paying more because that is the song the Democrats always sing and deficit decrease can only come from spending decreases – and he was not answering it seemed the question of military cut backs in spending.
The take away seemed to be that Obama is a con-job from whom they expect to get what they want – giving him only a debt ceiling increase bill that does not have social issue riders in it.
Last I heard the state commission that certifies elections will not certify until they finish their investigation into the incident. I’m wondering if they have the authority to order a manual count of that one county’s votes.
That it took TEPCO this long to cop to a 7 makes me wonder when the next plutonium-laced shoe is going to drop. These dudes have not exactly been forthcoming in their random disbursements of information. So how big will the dead zone radius ultimately turn out to be?
Looking on the bright side, glowing sushi!
I have not, but I will.
Statement & Account of Ramona Kitzinger, Waukesha Board of Canvassers
Hey Grover: Shared sacrifice this…
Some days it’s gets very slow and quiet here. Just saying. And, wondering.
For those who missed one of Paul Ryan’s budget proposals, here you go…
Wondering anything in particular? Speaking for myself, I woke up with a migraine that felt like a sledge hammer pounding on my skull from the inside. A few cups of coffee and everything is now hunky-dory….relatively speaking.
I read a quote somewhere from an elderly woman who said she was confused and doesn’t understand computers, but that there was no validation.
(There are advantages to a dead-tree news source. By the time I get finished with my morning news I’ve been on several web sites and have no idea where I’ve seen an item, so can’t provide a link. At least with a print newspaper it’s all in one place, credible or not!)
I dunno, demi, seems pretty chatty here this morning. Of course, I’m being chatty.
Just wondering why it gets so quiet sometimes. I’m a people watcher. Just looking at patterns of behavior and stuff.
You could be right. I could be wrong.
I noticed that there weren’t even 40 comments on last nights late nite.
Thanks, twolf1, that’s what I read, but it was just the last paragraph quoted, not the entire thing.
I wish people who post on websites would understand that a simple copy/paste with formatting like curly quote marks just puts garbage in the post, and then they don’t go back and clean it up so the post is full of little symbols.
Gee, it couldn’t possibly be because there was attention drawn to the attempt that caused it to become a non-thing and that it would have most likely happened if there weren’t attention given?
Nah, of course not.
Troll away gvandergrift, troll away.
I’m just hanging out; Ive been feeling lousy, but on the mend. The bad news has not been good for my mood…I could not believe the negotiated decision against DC women. How crazy is that?…with more to come, Im afraid.
I think the Late Nighters are mostly left coasters and Alaska pups and such. I never read Late Night until the morning, and by then it is too late to comment. Last night’s was posted at 8:00, which is 11:00 here in Indiana and I’m usually headed for the waterbed by then. And LLN goes up around 11 PDT and that’s 2 a.m. here.
I liked that a bunch of people (including the Mayor) demonstrated against the budget restrictions and were arrested.
Yep, great pushback….We can keep hoping that’s a sign of things to come.
Hahahaha…shouldn’t laugh, but that about sums it up! Where’s the stage?
And here I thought I was the only one that read the LLN in the morning. (central time)
What makes that comment a troll comment? I’m not understanding.
Yes. That was great!
And, sometimes folks read Morning Swim at night. *g*
It could easily be because the tag never had a chance go anywhere. It had evidently already been rejected by the bureaucracy in MS. Also, Dems controlled the MS House and so Dem votes would have been required to pass a measure providing for the tag.
It doesn’t take much to introduce a proposal into a legislature. Even 1 with essentially no prospects of passage.
However, if you think it was the earnestness and sincerity of libruls, which did the measure in, feel free to pat yourself on the back for another triumph.
Personally, I think it never had a chance and was just another shiny object for libs and progs to fixate upon and waste energy on.
Actually Trump’s foreign policy sounds like Obama’s foreign policy, just it is Obama who is more of a con.
So you think “libs” and “progs” waste time and energy on shiny objects…
What dull objects do you wish to use your energy on?
So a topic of casual conversation is fixation and wasted energy? Don’t you have some numbers in WI to play with today, One-Trick the Soothsayer?
Trump Will ‘Probably’ Run as Independent If He Doesn’t Win GOP Nomination.
So he’s going to drag out his self-promoting as long as he can.
•This is excellent news for Republicans.
This is excellent news for Republicans Obama and his buddies.
The rest of the country’s screwed.
Young Conservatives in TX really want to carry guns on campus….Nuts. Claims the ban takes away rights to protect oneself….Looks like the bill is not going to make it….
People are so stupid that they’ll vote for Trump, because they think they’ll get rich while he rips them off. Way to go Amerika.
Perhaps they should worry more about protecting themselves from the revision of history?
I don’t think it was “…the earnestness and sincerity of libruls, which did the measure in, feel free to pat yourself on the back for another triumph.” I think it was drawing attention to it in daylight.
Yes, it may well have not passed anyway, but why take a chance? And as we can all attest at all levels, just because someone has a “D” next to their name, does not mean they can’t be an idiot and support idiot legislation.
“Hook ‘em Horns” crew carrying guns…Oy.
•As bad as Chernobyl?
Tepco’s disaster may or may not be as bad as Chernobyl. Not sure it matters. It’s a huge disaster regardless of comparisons to Chernobyl.
2. Signatures for the recall of 2 Repub state senators have been submitted to the Government Accountability Board in WI.
0. There is 0 chance of recalling Scott Walker next year.
Those are my WI numbers for today.
gvandergrift likes to come onto FDL threads and mock anything such as BT’s post about the possible MS license plate honoring Nathan Bedford Forrest. He’s been especially good recently at trying to derail conversations on possible recalls of R Senators in WI
Concern Troll is the term that most frequently comes to mind.
Make you feel safer? Been quite a debate here.
Oh. Okay. Thanks. I guess I just worry that the T word gets thrown around so much. But, I hear you.
I agree, demi. Not particularly trollish IMHO. But that’s just me. And someone might find my eagle updates attempts to derail….they aren’t, but someone might…
I’m “here” too. :)
Trump’s not interested in winning a general election. He’s interested in promoting himself to make money for himself. He’ll never put himself in a position where people will be able to vote for him for any actual office.
Howdy…I don’t think I knew that. We keep trying to do a meetup; maybe that will happen.;)
Especially when it’s a multiple subject thread like MS. But, I guess we all get to have our say.
That is such a scary thought. After the Gabby Giffords shooting I remember reading that someone trained to use a gun almost pulled his and would have shot one of the people trying to subdue the gunman. Think about guns in the hands of nervous college kids with no training. YIKES.
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.

Wimberley area. Cool.
Good point. Time will tell.
Lotsa Texas pups, seems like. I rarely see posts from Indiana pups (there are a few) but others from nearby states. Wish we could do a meetup.
You’re assuming there was a chance in the 1st place.
It only takes 1 legislator in each chamber to introduce a measure.
Say you’re a legislator with 5 constituents, or 25, or 105, who support something you think is foolish, perhaps and has no chance of passing the entire chamber. Would you write a bill and submit it and allow legislative inertia to do its thing, or would you tactfully dismiss the constituents?
I do think there is a training requirement, but one of those against was talking about what a “complex” environment a campus is….youth, alcohol, etc. I agree with you…lots of opportunity for mistakes, quick trigger sort of stuff.
We are almost neighbors.
For some reason I thought you were up further North. I might have asked you once when I was “LS” as to whether you were familiar with “Snuffy’s”..was that you?
I don’t think it was me. However, I go to Snuffy’s 5 or 8 times a week.
Isn’t Kris planning to move to TX too?
Funny that BT didn’t claim any credit for derailing the license tag. Nobody has. It was just a shiny object for 30 milliseconds 1 day. Then everybody went on to the next shiny object. And the 1 after that.
Yes, in June, after his girls finish their school year. His wife will start at UT, Austin in the fall.
:) Best burgers…EVER!
Where is Snuffy’s? I know where Rosie’s is….if that helps.
The Young Conservatives are the true Brown Shirts of this nation, and have been for a long time. They are the worst of the worst.
New owners (of the bar not the building) have changed the menu and the burgers suffered. A bit. Still a really good burger.
Ooooo, more north, I guess. I was thinking south. Thanks
We were on the road recently and stopped there, but the food part was closed. I didn’t realize it had changed. I haven’t actually eaten there in years, because we don’t go that way too often.
Just one more thought. I find it ironic that someone would interrupt a thread to call someone else a troll. Humorous too.
You should get with CBL and trade numbers so when you do come through we could join you for a coctail or something.
We go to the pizza place on the south side of Wemberley once in a while. We really like the family.
You’re funny….Im out…later. ;)
Good idea. I’d like to know where on Facebook cbl is. I don’t give out the number here…you know. I know the pizza place you’re talking about, but I haven’t tried it. I will.
Try Clare Beatrice.
Would you tell her I just love her new photo? So cute lady.
