Bruce Springsteen – How Can a Poor Man Stand Such Times and Live
I suppose we shall find out soon enough…
What’s on your mind tonite…?
Hey Tut!
Some pretty fine Bruce.
Aloha, newt…! The Boss is always great live…! ;-)
How’s Cali tonite…?
Good enough.
The Islands?
I almost went with the Ry Cooder version, but, I wasn’t impressed with the quality of the vid…!
Still soggy…! Losing my tan with all this rain…! 8-(
Wow, lots of artists have covered it, but that Cooder from ’87 is really quite good.
Some more Cooder from that same show – Crazy ‘Bout An Automobile. Love this.
Hmmm! Well as far as teh poor folks are concerned, I’m just reminding let’s do something like this…
Now let’s wait till after Obama’s Wednesday speech to finalize the signs, but you get the idea.
Also, li’l reminder; the idiots are launching the movie Atlas Shrugged on 4/15, not actual Tax Day this year. Just saying…
Aloha, Kelly…! How’s the Front Range tonite…?
Overly warm. Snow required, not in forecast. :(
When your opponent asks for another shovel because his is blunt, oblige him.
When your opponent’s buddys show up with a truckload of shovels, let them pass.

Hey Hey B of A
Corporations Need to Pay
Tax
the
1%
I thought we were having a demo today, so I made some signs, but I went over, and I did not see anyone. I still have the signs, see you on the 18th Kelly!
This one totally rawks…
“Paid for Social Security Insurance; Haven’t paid for War. Which one to cut?”
Consider this for Libya alone… Cost of war for US at $608m: Pentagon…
Also, if corporations are people, why aren’t they paying taxes? That’s what I want to know. fuckers.
Aloha, bg…! Tax them at Eisenhower rates of 70%…!
The beautiful part of this? This first piece never shows, or reveals where Galt’s Gulch is, nor WHY it’s there, and the whole Taggart/Riordan thing?
Well, they ain’t making the beast-with-two-backs in part the first. #Aynpornfail
Aloha!
Just got my taxes off today. I paid more than General Electric, and I didn’t earn $13 billion. Hellz bellz, haven’t worked in three years and still I gotta pay! Sheesh.
All the news really sucks, but there is some small comfort in a fried egg sandwich….
We’re not only not taxing ‘em but giving them hefty tax returns…! *gah*
Aloha, sfmikey…! I’ve still yet to do my taxes…!
Let ‘Em Dig!
You’re making me almost want to pull the book out to skim it over. Just so I can go to the screening and laugh hysterically when they try to skew it one direction or the other.
Ships in the night…
wait? No rape scene?
What a fitting song. Thanks, CT.
Aloha, Larue…! How’s Sac tonite…?
Aloha, chaeronea…! How’s western NY tonite…?
Aloha, Margot…! Reading about O’bummer’s sellout, with more to come, inspired me…!
And @ your #21:
Read it, know it, be prepared with the knowledge of your enemy’s belief.
Their weakness is our defense, for one thing.
BTW, a fabulous night here in the cool, gray city of love, under a gorgeous crescent moon. They say rain is in the forecast, but I’m not buying….
Very pretty, got up into the 80s today driving across the state, I could not believe it. Got a little chiller though, waiting on the usual spring rains. How’s paradise?
Bruce live is a different Bruce than recorded. Rock on~!
I read it when I was 14, and managed not to go nuts =P I should pull it out though, its definitely one of those books you mentally compress due to length and lack of any sort of editing. I agree, I might actually go to see it just to debate someone into seeing a bit of reason.
Dang, ya’ll were warmer than moi today…! We saw a high of 75 today…! ;-)
Aloha, openhope…! How’s the Sound tonite…?
evening, firegods
BTW, CTuttle, re Bruce Springsteen and the above: a poor man’s wealth is in a holy place…. (Redemption Song)
I read it when I was 17 and dismissed it. Shocks me that people “believe” in stuff she wrote.
Hey, I just found my Little Village cd, been dancing to Ry Cooder, John Hiatt, Jim Keltner, Nick Lowe and the band. Rockin’ and learning how to make shit loads of baked beans. Seems so appropriate with those boys.
Aloha, PPD…! ;-)
I still like the fact Ayn Rand had to rely on federal handouts for a spell…! Kinda puts a crimp in her misguided beliefs, eh…? ;-)
And another thing, while I’m ranting – :)
What the hell is with this purity stuff like “I won’t watch Rachel, Ed, harumph, I gave up on them WAY a long time ago.”
Duh, the thing is WATCH THEM! Know where the capitulation is coming from, how it’s framed.
Battlefield intelligence is important; it’s not shit you WANT to hear. It’s stuff you HAVE to hear to know what’s going on, on both sides.
Hi, PPD
Marley doing the Redemption song… ;-)
The Sound is full of 41 baby chicks in different stages of age, with different labels on their little beings; laying hen or Cornish-cross meat bird. I’m entering the serial killer time of year. Also. :]
Agreed.
And ‘knowing your enemy by reading his playbook’ aside, doctrinaire-thinking (if you don’t believe x, you aren’t y) is the famous conceit of the Right and their many mouthy assholes. I want no part of them, or their doctrine.
hiya CT
The sorrow is; no one who follows Ayn Rand has any idea of the woman and her life. We have more knowledge than is possibly good for us. maybe
Ed seems to be the biggest O’bummerbot of the lot of them…! Rachel does push back from time to time…! ;-)
Even on the alleged left.
I despise Ezra Klein; but I follow him on twitter!
Why follow him?
Well, not to be rude, but kinda, so what!
Field intelligence is a big deal; that’s my point. Watch, have sources, on all these mofos. Read shit you don’t like/agree with. Be prepared.
It’s a harsh world. I just live in it, and cope with it.
IAEA forcing Tokyo to raise Fukushima to level 7.
hiya margot
Ezra is a fairly good indicator of where the WH is going to go. So I find that useful.
Because you can’t combat his bullshit, unless you know his bullshit.
Randi Rhodes, as well. I listened to her finesse her Obama has done good things media bullshit. Another one down.
Don’t even fucking bother listening to opinions of MSM anymore. Got a talk show? Cool. Count me out.
Aloha, ET…! How’s Wasilla tonite…?
That makes sense. Thank you for doing that. I start screaming inside my head. Maybe a basket ful of rolled up socks is needed at my house. :]
I do like Rachel’s recent pushback against the MMS and their recent approval of 10 deep wells for the Gulf…!
I’m sure that’s a bit rare! Usually April here is pretty cold and rainy, but not as bad as winter at all. Snow is still possible though, and it can get pretty cold, or warm randomly as it feels like
Yeah, I find it an interesting conversation, but I don’t fault anyone for skimming it, or not reading the monologue. I definitely saw the wonks with it back then, but I dislike deifying most things =P
Ya know, everybody has a different stomach level for the fight.
I’m the type that craves all the bad news Right Fucking NOW! so I don’t get blindsided. That is not a position for everyone, and frankly, could actually be perceived as a bit nuts!
When that came out her spin brigades shaved a few seconds off their record, apparently its not hypocrisy cuz she said so…. or something….. Shrug, people like that who rail against the “poor welfare queens” usually have no problem taken what is something they should “have anyways” even if they don’t need it.
I played in a concert at Palmer HS tonight. Spent the day reading about 120 pages of James Carroll’s Jerusalem, Jerusalem: How the Ancient City Ignited Our Modern World. I’ll be hosting the FDL book salon on his book Sunday afternoon. I’d read parts of his Constantine’s Sword a few years ago, but this book is quite interesting. more later on that, I guess.
The snow is melting and my plants in the greenhouse are loving the sun. How much radiation am I getting? The monitoring stations here don’t seem to have any significant information.
I barely got into it at 17 as “the enemy” book. Blew it off for Krishnamurti, Kalil Gibran, Aldous Huxley and the crew. Probably butchered the spelling of their names. They too shall pass……………….
Ooh, so you’re hosting it…! Cool…! I’m looking forward to the Salon…! ;-)
I will have to stop into that salon, I’ve been a fan of his since I stumbled onto some excerpts of Constantine’s Sword and have been meaning to read it ever since, I’m sure his newer work will be just as interesting.
How about that book? Does it get into fundamental word truths, like Daar Es Salaam = Jeru Salem = Town of Peace?
Huxley, Orwell, Heinlein were some of my faves during my teens…! ;-)
I know a guy who could help you keep that tan… if losing your tan is really bothering you.
They definitely are powerful writers, they can change the way you think about a few things for sure.
Aloha, Adam…! That’s quite alright…! It’ll be dry season soon enough…! ;-)
I want the bad news right fucking now, but I want it presented to me by people who’s opinions I trust. News as social/event/current info because I don’t trust my ability to nuance the lede. I prefer to get my deeper info by scuba diving through the muddy waters. Like hunting mud creatures without a weapon, but with a bright sense of purpose!!
And Ray Bradbury!
In Oregon, the native Oregonians get so pale, by February, they are faintly biolumnescent like the natives species on the moon Pandora.
L’engle, Anne McCaffrey, Asimov, and others…! ;-)
the Illustrated Man.
Well, people will always give you the good news – never the bad news, at least the straight bad news.
Only your most trusted sources will give you the bad news; and you’ll argue about it with them.
He sets a rather large stage for Jerusalem’s importance through the ages. He attempts to reconcile differences between Judaism, Christianity and Islam, and amongst their internal sects. I’m not done with the book, but there are many acute observations. My yellow hiliter is running low on ink. This book may win Carroll more awards.
Oh, yeah.
Asimov! His books were amazing to read just as the 2000s rolled around.
I’m at the point I was back in the beginning of my journey to awareness. Celebrating a fucking half century.
Question, listen, think. Cry BULLSHIT, you fucking sick fuckers. ! I’m just not willing to roll over and show the soft belly of surrender while the youngbloods need me to be strong. Knowledge isn’t power as much as it’s a resignation to walk the last line of a protest, between the police and the youngbloods.
Same as it always was.
Nothing from nothing…
that is the best afro I’ve ever seen, hands down.
*heh* It was rather bushy, eh…? ;-)
that’s outright impressive, I don’t even know how to imagine where his head is under all that.
Play That Funky Music… …White boy…! ;-)
Great tune!
It’s kind of weird to realize that I became a radical as a 7 year old kid, under my desk, during an Atom Bomb Duck and Cover drill. Head between my knees and wondering what was so twisted in people that they’d do these horrible things because they thought they were right about how people should live their lives.
*g*
ouch =P Sadly I have hair that could be easily combed out like that to such an effect, born a couple decades too late, thank the gods! That bassline is so amazing though.
I’m still busy trying to sift through Fukushima goodness, once again I’m pretty much relying on the internet and people here at FDL. The news is really just not even remotely cutting it.
I’m glad that I never had to go thru those drills, Canada never implemented them, nor did Hawaii in the 70′s…! ;-)
What will we do with the knowledge of how much radiation? I still have to plant food. The rain will still fall.
There’s no where to run.
First rate reporting here, that’s for sure…! ;-)
I’m 1963 grade school. By the 70′s it was a whole nother thang! Without the “Camelot”.
Can we get to 100 tonite…?
I Feel Good…
I completely agree, seeing headlines on here 2.5 days before they’d show up in the MSM blew my mind. Also the level of detail that some people painstakingly put into their comments and posts was beyond impressive.
100? Aren’t you pushing it there?
Aloha, VMT…! Maybe a little…! ;-)
Damn, we need someone to tell a joke. I;m racking my brain but it’s a small rack!!
Sometimes the comments themselves should be posts…! ;-)
Aloha! I’m listening to Peggy Santiglia.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cvRzlVn1Mw&feature=related
that does seem to happen here a bit for sure!
I’ll bite!
gratz, nice snag there =P
Happy 100.
Woo-hoo…! Congrats, VMT…! ;-)
I just noticed your quote from liberman in your last diary tuttle, am I allowed to topple the regime occupying his house yet?
Thanks, FDLers!
I posted a new diary if anybody’s interested later…! ;-)
Arab League Asks For Gaza No-Fly Zone, Tentative Cease-Fire Is Agreed To Between Hamas, Israel, And, Israeli Doublespeak…
Time to call it a night. Thank you, CTuttle, for being a wonderful host and more wonderful post writer.
Good night, all.
Sweet dreams.
By all means…! ;-)
Night. I have to hit the sack myself. Till next time.
Pleasant dreams, openhope…! Mahalo…! *g*
I suspect we will increase our rates of mutations, along with the increased mortality of those who bow out early from the stress. This stuff will happen to many more reactors over the next 25 years, for one reason or another.
Heh, not sure how well that would go over =P But if you say its okay, then its obviously super legal!
Every time I hear of him, I think of the impression that Jon Stewart did of him during the healthcare debate, absolutely priceless.
Sleep tight, VMT…! ;-)
You’re confusing Holy Joe with the Israeli Foreign Minister, Avigdor Lieberman, no relation btw…!
Well, I shall bid ya’ll another fond adieu…! Mahalo for the great discussion tonite…!
Aloha Oe…! *g*
That’s embarrassing, I skimmed it a bit too much apparently, going back to reread. Yeah common name >_<
