I agree with you 1,000%. So, let’s kick it up a notch. Set up a website to create a virtual third-party. What have liberals and progressives got to lose?

The mission is simple. Ask for two volunteers from each state district and each congressional district of all 50 states to 1.) Recruit three additional people to identify every race for 2012 in their district. 2.) Learn the fining fees, signature requirements, and deadlines for each office and post them on the website. 3.) Advertise locally for candidates to run for local office. 4.) Ask volunteers to commit to contributing $5 a month to build a war chest. Non-volunteers can contributed a maximum of $10 per month. Register a new party in all 50 states.

The reason third-party candidates fail is because they have no political roots beyond the one election. Create a slate of candidates and a movement will evolve.

Twitter, Facebook,Foursquare, LinkedIn, and other social networking media can generate numbers of voters in a way for a political movement like never before. Also, you can create your own social network at ning.com.

The goal will be to hold a convention in Madison, Wisconsin, Wednesday thru Friday, July 4th thru July 6th, 2012. Stream the convention live on UStream tv. Advertise it through the non-main stream media such as Digital journal, Examiner.com, etc.

These ideas can take your idea from who not to vote for to who we will vote for because they reflect our principles.

Those budget deals amount to arm-twisting by the right, and taking hostages, which happens to be the country and most especially workers. Some handle those hostage situations by kissing off the hostages and going for the best deal. Not sure that works here.

Criminal proceedings were brought against Wachovia, though not against any individual, but the case never came to court. In March 2010, Wachovia settled the biggest action brought under the US bank secrecy act, through the US district court in Miami. Now that the year’s “deferred prosecution” has expired, the bank is in effect in the clear. [snip]

More shocking, and more important, the bank was sanctioned for failing to apply the proper anti-laundering strictures to the transfer of $378.4bn – a sum equivalent to one-third of Mexico’s gross national product [snip]

“Wachovia’s blatant disregard for our banking laws gave international cocaine cartels a virtual carte blanche to finance their operations,” said Jeffrey Sloman, the federal prosecutor. Yet the total fine was less than 2% of the bank’s $12.3bn profit for 2009.

They do it because they’re shameless and because they know that no one will ever hold them accoutable. Nothing to lose. So much to gain.

Wachovia probably paid millions of dollars to the individual criminals who did this. Wachovia profited big time. The individuals made personal fortunes. No one suffered any real consequences.

Some handle those hostage situations by kissing off the hostages and going for the best deal. Not sure that works here.

Unhappily it has worked so far. This “deal” is a matter of the rich dividing up the spoils it has nothing to do with the needs of the citizenry. No matter what “deal” they engineer we are fucked.

I agree if by district you mean towns as political subdivisions. I think we need something local to attract people, putting the town’s check book on line was my thought, but it can include a local craig’s list, teacher evaluations by students and it should be in the form of a game, like find the corrupt by going through expense accounts. Could even try to use linked game controllers for computing power. see Reality is broken by Jane McGonigal. Also think we should shoot for a virtual convention rather than a physical one at a physical location.

“the commons” are assets we’ve invested, built and get or have gotten a positive return, they want these assets so they can make the money off of them that we’ve invested to recieve ourselves

for instance, they are talking about “borrowing” from pension plans”

how the HELL do they “borrow” from a pension plan without giving paper on it?

in order to “borrow” you MUST give a promisory note of some sort claiming the dividend you will recieve for your investment

that was the problem we made when they “borrowed” from social security, we got NO paper and no promisory note even though they were giving our money to the wealthiest people on the planet, all while “claiming” this “loan” would result in a positive return

the real problem wasn’t the loan it was the fact that we didn’t demand paper, that’s what has to be done now whenever they claim they are “borrowing” from the commons

as a matter of fact, I think this is a nice instrument the democrats might talk about whenever the republicans claim they want to sell our assets

something like;

“let’s see the paper on that and the assets to back up the claim if it turns into a negative return for the tax payers”
