"Uterus is not a dirty word! It's the house where I grew up." (photo courtesy of Jim White)
It looks like Pouting Baby is talking to us again. — JW
I can’t believe how mean Cannonball Dean and the other Republicans in the Florida legislature are. Did you hear about how they tried to get Rep. Randolph in trouble just because he said “uterus”? They tried to make it look like uterus is a dirty word:
During last week’s discussion about a bill that would prohibit governments from deducting union dues from a worker’s paycheck, state Rep. Scott Randolph, D-Orlando, used his time during floor debate to argue that Republicans are against regulations — except when it comes to the little guys, or serves their specific interests.
At one point Randolph suggested that his wife “incorporate her uterus” to stop Republicans from pushing measures that would restrict abortions. Republicans, after all, wouldn’t want to further regulate a Florida business.
They told Democrats not to talk about body parts on the House floor, and Cannonball Dean’s spokesperson even tried to claim that young pages would be upset by hearing the word uterus:
“Additionally, the Speaker believes it is important for all Members to be mindful of and respectful to visitors and guests, particularly the young pages and messengers who are seated in the chamber during debates. In the past, if the debate is going to contain language that would be considered inappropriate for children and other guests, the Speaker will make an announcement in advance, asking children and others who may be uncomfortable with the subject matter to leave the floor and gallery.”
That’s just stupid! Uterus is not a dirty word, it’s the house where I grew up. It was all warm and snuggly there. I could hear my Mommy telling me how much she loved me.
Ms. Rachel M. had Rep. Randolph on her show to talk about how uterus is not a dirty word, and how Republicans don’t want it said because they are trying to pass a lot of laws that are mean to people who have a uterus:
Cannonball Dean has caused a lot of problems for Florida Republicans by trying to say uterus is a dirty word. As Ms. Rachel M. said in the video, the ACLU has now put up a website at IncorporateMyUterus.com. It’s a really cute site. And there is a really neat Facebook page for Uterus. Be sure to look at the pictures there, because one of them suggests where you can find Cannonball Dean.

(State of Florida photo)
For comparison, here’s another picture of Cannonball Dean from his website. I noticed a familiar name when I looked at that photo. For a minute, I thought it was taken by the Mark Foley who said lots of dirty words to pages. But I guess there is another Mark Foley who is a photographer for the Florida Legislature. The photo of Cannonball Dean is fun, though, because the framed picture beside him is Cretin Larry, who was Speaker before Cannonball Dean and is from my district.
Anyway, if you want to join the people who are telling Cannonball Dean that uterus is not a dirty word, you can sign the petition here. Also, some nice people are selling t-shirts that say “Government so small it can fit in your uterus”.
You can follow Rep. Randolph on Twitter at @RepRandolph and his wife is at @SusannahFL.
Remember, uterus is not a dirty word. It’s the house where I grew up. And you grew up in one, too.

pouting baby!
Suze!
those are great looking tshirts!
uterus is not a dirty word indeed — and just because some people have one is no reason to try to make it so the gov’t has control over their uterus by those who dont.
maybe those male florida legislators are just jealous they don’t have a uterus
*heh* “It’s where I grew up…” Take heart, Pouting Baby, it’s where we all ‘grew up’…! ;-)
Maybe they are.
Aloha.
Yup, growing up in a uterus is something we all have in common.
So I take it you’re still in ‘wait and worry’ mode, Suz, speaking of uteruses…! ;-)
How to pick out the Rethugs in a crowd: start chanting “uterus, uterus, uterus,” and note anyone who cringes.
i yam tut — per the doc, any day now… any moment really my phone could ring and off i go…
Heh. Hiya, EDP.
I’m willing and able to fill in at a moment’s notice…! Just give a holler…! ;-)
Good evening all.
thanks tut — i’ll write ya off thread
Uterus Envy?
Pouting Baby!
Salutations.
Hey, how’s it going?
Kris!
Pouting Baby just wants good meals at this point.
Burp! Just back from a good banquet dinner for my wife’s work. Going very well.
Uterati, Unite!
I think FL GOPers are jealous that women can do something they can’t.
Think.
What was the occasion? Any particularly good items on the menu?
More like uterus wrath, or maybe uterus greed…I don’t think envy is the first of the deadly sins to cross my mind here.
Sounds like it’s time for another run of T-shirts. Or manybe bumper stickers.
So exciting! We can’t wait for the news.
Kelly!
Or incorporate!
Heh! Hiya!
Hi Christine.
Among other things.
Hey Jim — dearest Pouting Baby, we love your “talking.”
Halloo all ye Uterati peeps!
While I’m a def penis fan, I have praise to spare for the Uterati.
Everyone needs to be sure to click on the link to the photo on the Facebook page that explains where we can find Cannonball Dean.
What’s up?
tis a great forking photo dood :)
Unionize…! ;-)
Heh. Don’t say “penis” around the Florida House. They still prefer to call it a “wee-wee.”
jen is showing some very early labor kinda signs…
Bwahahahahaha!
I’m always in awe of the power of reproduction — I did it twice!
Humph. I don’t have a uterus any more, as of about 1983. Can I still haz a t-shirt?
Good Evening All.
In a Democracy, I guess folks get the Guminit they deserve…
Still recovering from the drive from Buffalo to NYC and back. A bout of the flu ran through the house when we got home, and then my computer crashed. If folks would like to see my poster presentation from the NY Academy of Sciences Conference, click here.
I did y’all proud.
Someone in FL should walk into a session and yell “WIENER!”
See how many GOPers giggle, then act offended.
Yup, I’d love to know who put that one up.
Oh WOW! That’s great. Hope all goes smoothly.
OOOH. Goody. Gonna be Granny time around the household!
LOL, Kris!!
Don’t say “penis”?
Do you know to whom you are talking? Hmmm? LOL!
I’m sure they would be happy to sell you one. It is a wonderful shirt.
Oh, Jim. I so hope you keep that caption under your pic forever and ever. Perfect!
Hope the household is feeling better.
tis at the ‘only some’ stage and not ‘all’ — so i’m on pins and needles waiting for ‘the call’ which could come tonight, or tomorrow, or sat and at the very latest, next friday april 15th at noon when, if she hasn’t reached the stage where republicans stop caring about her and her uterus (birth), she will be induced.
X2…! ;-)
I lost my uterus in 1983, too :( The wrong sperm won. I blame oldnslow.
I change the caption every week to go with the post, but that one really does seem to fit. For anyone new around here, that photo really is me as a baby.
Uterus! Fucking Uterus!
Yep, he’s the one responsible for that one.
I doubt she will be induced…! ;-)
Hi Pouting Baby. Quick rundown:
- they hate and despise women.
- words like “uterus” make them sad and scared because they’ve never heard of them, and therefore are suspicious that such words must be “politically correct” i.e. evil. they consider the words “c**t” and “pussy” perfectly sufficient and proper descriptors of down-there girl places such as your former digs.
(MODNOTE: the c word was edited in moderation)
I think that you could set this to music…
Oh Snap…! ;-)
During the peak of the bb steroid usage, I suggested to my son that he start a chant when the worst offenders were at bat: Clap. Clap. Tiny nuts.
In a strange sort of irony, I’m watching MonsterQuest on the History Channel. They’re looking for giant snakes in Florida.
Cannonball Dean? Where are you?!
I sure am getting a lot of old people spam email. Thanks everybody but I ride my bike 25 miles in a day and can still do 125 sit ups in two minutes. I think I can do without a power chair or a hip replacement.
LOL!
Oh, that is so wonderful!
I have a feeling I would get some very s-t-r-a-n-g-e looks if I wore one.
KrisA, ask cbl who won the sperm contest. LOL.
Hi Margaret. Shout it out.
Prolly a tiny snake in that case.
I never get any of that. And I probably am in the appropriate demographic.
EDIT: to Margaret’s point, I also can ride 25 miles on my bike in a day. Not sure about the situps. Prolly not. But (whine) I’m 68!
Speaking of shirts, I got an FDL tee shirt in the mail a couple of days ago. I wear that when I ride my bike now.
sweet!
Really? Man! I wish I didn’t! they are always trying to peddle me drugs or power chairs or diabetes supplies and I don’t get it. I’m just 50 and as I said, in very good shape.
How did you get on those lists? I don’t get any of those, and very little spam at all.
Weee! I gotta T in the mail yesterday too! Forgot to say so earlier – YAY!!!!
Mine came yesterday. I love it. I hear the bumper stickers and membership cards are on their way very soon.
They’re saving Cannonball Dean for their two-part expose of enormous jackasses with tiny genitalia.
I mean, yeah, I have some 50 year old problems and I’ll never be as young as pouting baby again or have a FUCKING UTERUS, but there are compensations.
I want a tshirt!
WooHoo! Can’t wait for the card. It says “I’m a firebagger baby and damned proud of it”.
{ LOL }
BREAKING
Weeping Boner Firmly Opposes Unregulated Vaginae.
“I need to get something straight between me and those vaginaes,” he did not say.
I turned down the freebies in the interest of more bucks for FDL. Besides, I have enough Ts to last the rest of my life. It takes me about a decade to wear out a T. And I accumulated them earlier, mainly on my travels.
Again, absolutely no idea but I’ve had this email practically since the invention of email so it’s collected some spam over the years.
Elephants with squirrel junk?
Hmmm. He’d better not ask Kelly then….
Heh. But there’s no room between him and the teabaggers. At least according to him…
I hear steroids can do that.
Frankly, I can’t believe the overwhelming stupidity that defines the present mainstream social discourse. I can’t fathom how Obama’s mandate could be squandered at the feet of these idiots!
The prosecutor wanted to ask Barry Bonds earlier this week, but his lawyers wouldn’t let him testify. :)
It wasn’t squandered. It was surrendered. We elected Marshal Petain.
Wow!
Great post, PB. You are getting VERY good at this.
Incidently, Huffpoo has this awesome post which truly encapsulates my views…
Baha’i Teachings to Prevent the Federal Government Shutdown…
A great read…! *g*
The literacy and linguistics of this child never cease to amaze me.
I’ve had my aol email account for prolly a decade. It was invaded by the body snatchers about 3-4 weeks ago, which was a big pain (got lots of calls from peeps I hadn’t communicated with for years, wondering whether I was really in trouble in London), but other than that, it’s been trouble free. And the big advantage is that the invader wiped out all my historic email addys. I was beginning to think I ought to do the boring work of figuring out how to cull the list, but the virus did that for me.
Can we have a cartoon of that, please?
If paramecia reproduced sexually, they’d have Cannonball Dean’s weenie.
Thanks, Teddy. And send my thanks to rabidbadger for the link to the t-shirts.
I just finished watching Ken Burn’s PBS Civil War series. When it first came out I didn’t have access to a television being at sea but I bought the books and read them. I finally got to see it from beginning to end this week. Quite well done I thought but with some elementary mistakes.
So far that little bit of adventure hasn’t happened to mine, knock on wood.
Not to mention uteruses
OT– Like what?
Next up will forensic gynecologists showing up at peoples homes armed with teeny tiny search warrants. Smaller government indeed, and how intrusive would that be for a 14-year-old female girl raped by her stepfather?
There are many vagina experts here.
I am a penis expert. Really!
I’ve had ‘em all.
That is a good post. Thanks for the link.
Yes.
And here.
I’m sure you know this, but you should *always* find the “unsubscribe” link (they’re required to include a way to do that, per the CAN-SPAM law). I get surprisingly little junk mail. Most of what I see is appeals by someone in Nigeria for help to get billions of dollars out of the country. GMail must have pretty good spam filters, because I get almost none in my “spam” folder, and what arrives there is *always* spam (often in another language).
Oh, yesterday I got an email from the Chamber of Commerce (some affiliate) wanting me to call my Congresscritter about the EPA.
Nothing major. He said Lincoln was 55 at the time of his death when he was 56, They said Edwin Stanton upon Lincoln’s death said “Now he belongs to the ages” but what he actually said was “Now he belongs to the angels”, insisting on calling the CSS Virginia “Merrimack”, just stuff like that.
Got a new computer though.
Just when that happened I was having multiple troubles with my old one. I had most of them fixed, including the aol one, but some remained, like windows would fail on the updates and my keyboard was really hinky. So I caved. Old puter was about 4 years old, which I am told is about their useful life.
Spent the last couple of days transferring data & programs. It should be all in shape after today, fingers crossed.
Hey SD (think he’s not on at night, but I’ll blame him next Caturday), I think floating cat fur (got Cahnstance a year & a half ago) sped the deterioration of my keyboard.
Completely intrusive if it happens in Idaho.
I like junk mail since I have a fireplace.
Is that a description or an ad?? *g*
I believe it but you’re not something “straight” that will ever get between BONER and vaginae.
Oooh. Hadn’t thought of that. Up in the stirrups for all the USG to inspect.
That’s a “Yes” ma’am. ;)
Yeah, I do that if I trust the source but opening unknown email is a good way to get hacked.
Heh.
Well if you’re gonna call yourself a historian you are supposed to get those details correct.
Heh – yep. I love women.
Just ain’t gonna get in the luv hump with ‘em.
Nighters, all. Climbing into my tree. (Whose line is that?) See ya on the flip side!
How many computers do you burn/year?
g’nite msmolly
I’d have shown you a cartoon with Boner’s Boner, but I’m told it doesn’t exist.
(The cartoon or the boner?)
My msn email account that I’d had for about ten years too, was infilitrated, the FDL crew notified me right away, but, when my Mom had quipped to me: “Aloha Grampa, What is this for? Mom” asking why I’d emailed her a Viagra ad…! ;-)
I’m a little less cautious because I’m on a Mac and between the secure OS and the smaller market share, the hackers pretty much leave us alone.
It made me cry at the end though. Foote is spot on when he says we wouldn’t be the country we are today without that stupid war. When you look into the causes and the aftermath you have to conclude both that it shouldn’t have been fought but it had to be fought.
G’nite msmolly.
Ewww. TMI, Kris!!
Of course it’s videotaped for, y’know.
ROTFLMAO!
Jon Stewart was on fire tonight aka Glen Beck. Hilarious and freaky.
Wasn’t there something about a prominent pol’s penis & straight? Was it Big Dawg’s?
Out for realz. *waves to all the late night pups*
Ken Burns is a producer though. Those mistakes were all production/narration errors. They were elementary mistakes though.
Goodnight, msmolly.
Heh. Ask Kelly. He’s the penis patron.
Night molly.
Nite msmolly!
None. Just handed off my old laptop to my son after my daughter bought me this MacBook Pro for my Birthday. Well, last years birthday.
I was gonna buy one of those but got laid off instead.
Okay, caught me by my own snark. Good job.
Yes. It always makes us cry, too. Look for the book “Confederates in the Attic” by Tony Horwitz in your local library. The war will never be over…this is an astonishing book.
Please let sanity step in and win the day, eh…?
Good computer. Hope you get another job soon. Tough out there right now, as if you didn’t know.
What went out on my email list, under an account that was the prefix for my aol, but with a different suffix, was the one about being in London & having been mugged, money stolen & I needed financial help getting home.
I had gotten such an email maybe such a month earlier (guess I clicked on it bc the subject was suspect but not definitively bogus), sent it to my spam file then deleted it, but that’s prolly how the virus got in. Any email that asks for financial help I totally disregard, but it turns out, some who got the spam were really concerned for my well being. I couldn’t believe that anyone thought it was real. Hoping that those peeps don’t respond with equal concern to the emails from Nigeria.
Nite msmolly. Sleep well.
Yeah, Foote says the same thing though he goes on to say that before the Civil War, people referred to the United States as “Those” while after people referred to the United States as “it”. We didn’t have a strong central government or near the kind of unity we take for granted until that war was fought.
Haw! *blush* but it’s TRUE!
I really love women. I so admire them. Women are the only people that feel like I do.
Care for people, do things for people, family or not. Reciprocation is optional for the “men.”
I totally get it about women. In the big sense of it, of course, since I’m not a woman. But close.
Me too, thanks.
Goodnight, gang. Thanks for a fun evening. And please consider signing the petition to Cannonball Dean.
Hence the phenomenon of f*g hags. Sorry for the rude term but women like to hang around gay men because their empathetic without being catty. Sensitive men are so hard to come by though in Kris’ generation, they are much more common than in ours.
Night Jim and Pouting baby!
Horrible war. I can understand it but I’m not sure I like the reenactment stuff. Big business all over the South up into the DC Metro. I took one of the ancestors to do the tourist thing and was forced to walk Pickett’s Charge complete with commentary. It wasn’t like being in Wheeling at midnight but it wasn’t sweetness and light either.
g’nite jim
Wow, that is amazing. Margaret you are such a sage.
Read recently that the U.S. was the only country that required a war to end slavery. Guessing it was Western Civ country that was meant, though don’t remember that was specified in the source, which is now lost to history.
We are the Uterati…
Goodnight Jim and Pouting Baby — I’ll always think of you and a blue blanket!
I’m with you: re-enactments are stupid. And it seems like there are just as many northern people who still haven’t forgiven the south as there are southern people who are still fighting it 150 years later.
Are you callin’ me Herb? ;)
As a female, most of my good friends were men for most of my life. I didn’t share a lot of interests with women.
That is no longer true, as I stopped working & my interests expanded.
But thru serendipity, I prolly have more LGBT friends now than straight ones.
Who coulda anticipated.
More of that “American exceptionalism” no doubt.
No! Just a very wise person…
It’s the shoes deal – walk a mile…
Got it.
I traveled professionally with a gay guy for about 2 years. It was the bestest. We shared lots of interests besides professional (art, food, for example), he’s good looking and there was no sexual tension. Some of the best biz trips evah.
Thanks. But I was just being silly with the Herb comment.
‘Xactly my thought. The history of the U.S. is extreme violence.
I’ve been thinking it’s a characteristic of settler societies but I don’t know enough about diff countries to form such sweeping hypotheses.
i thought it was very snarky – punaise wudda been proud :)
I see that now…
Done and forwarded. Thanks and g’nite, Jim.
We are watching “Dead Poet’s Society” — it is filmed where I grew up. Heartbreaking.
That’s how it works for Belch’s parents too.
We are now the friends of THEIR friends in their assisted living. They never saw the Gay Brigade coming! Funny how that works.
The truth is, vacuum creates opportunities, as you well know. Filling that is relatively easy, when one bothers to pay attention to those wanting.
Well you have to remember. The United States is still very young. While the native Americans have been around for at least 10,000 years, their society was pretty much obliterated by white settlers so leaving that culture aside, we as a people, haven’t been around nearly as long as almost any other society on the planet. What seems like ancient history to short lived people like us is a blink of an eye compared to European civilization and even less to African, Asian and Middle eastern cultures.
I prolly had more gay friends than I knew earlier, when fewer were out.
And the truth is, like all prejudices, their fears and misconceptions evaporate when they finally get to know lgbt people, (though to be honest they’ve known lgbt people all their lives without realizing it).
What are you drinking ma’am?
Something that crosses my mind about re-enactments is if one wants to time travel, why not do something not about death like going to a Ren Faire, buying some juried art, eating handmade hot apple dumplings, laughing at silly versions of Shakespeare then going home?
Yes, which is why I’m reluctant to advance any hypothesis.
Nonetheless two factors (top of the list, but not the only ones) have impressed me about violence in U.S. history. Obliteration of indigenous tribes, and that the colonists’ revolution was one of the biggest creators of refugees of any western war, roughly 1/3 of white population.
Sippin’ scotch.
Are my comments that revealing? *g*
I used to work TRF, Hawkwood and Scarborough Faire.
Not revealing. Just that I owe you one because you mentioned that you knew more gay people than you were aware before I mentioned that most people do. Sliding a scotch on the rocks down. Hope you like single malt.
My hypothesis is based on my belief that we are a revival tent society. We have more than our share of snake oil preachers and every one of them claims to know what “god” thinks and wants and just about all of our violence has been justified thereby. It’s disgusting. I hope there is a god so I can go through eternity with the knowledge that they are all slowly roasting. Even if that means I have to roast alongside of them.
You probably did. You and most people.
I have often seen what I call the “Angel, Exalted” and the “Angel, Discarded.”
The first is a person who really made a difference in a difficult turn of life for someone else, and succeeded.
The second is a person who really TRIED to make a difference in a difficult turn of life for someone else, and failed.
Sexuality or gender isn’t a requirement for any of that, but the Angel side really goes to the feminine/sensitive of heart.
Ooooo. Single malt, you are so generous. Many thanks!
See? You know how to have fun. I heard the US creme de la creme was the New York fest as they had the best of everything including the food and everybody’s welcome. What is there not to like?
I went to a women’s college, when truth be told, I didn’t know what homosexuality was. Of course, I’d heard about it, but that was about it. As life went on, I kept hearing about all the lesbian activity that allegedly went on at my college, but I observed none of it.
Heterosexual shenanigans were very much apparent, though.
And agree fully that sexual orientation is not a determinant of other characteristics of human behavior, at least in my limited experience.
I think that the “religious” show you describe is simply a mask for the mentality of corruption as so well pointed out by Chaucer. Expose the lies, the mask falls and *poof* goes their stolen power.
I’m about to split my face through yawning. Oya koinu.
g’nite margaret
G’nite Margaret.
A book on manifest destiny (think that’s the title but too late to look it up) that I started last year but didn’t finish, written in 1935, I repeat 1935 so remember the economic circumstances of the U.S. when it was written, talked about Puritans thinking they were the ‘chosen people’ and how that permeated all the geographic acquisitions & conquests of the U.S. was an important factor in my thinking. The only reason I didn’t finish the book was bc it got so repetitive.
Like a lot of history books, it could have been cherry picking evidence and I know so little about U.S. history that I am no judge.
But time after time, as the U.S. expanded geographically, the author clipped documents & speeches of U.S. pols about the excuse for U.S. taking over the world, all of which examples were related to that theme.
White man’s burden is not-so-tangentially related.
Nite Margaret. Sleep well.
Good night all and rest well. :-)
“Debussy: Images I – 1. Reflets dans l’eau (1904-1905)” (audio with images of the period Impressionist paintings)
Nice link for this hour. Thanks.
LLN up.
Conservatives are fond of quoting the late Democratic Senator Paul Tsongas, who once said that “You cannot love employment and despise employers.” We should tell them that “You cannot love procreation and despise sex!”
Pouting Baby! …and Jim White!!!
