- The disaster that just keeps getting worse.

- Meet the far-right’s new hero.

Now that’s accountability.
11 men were killed on the Deepwater Horizon, but there must have also been
many workers who suffered horrific injuries and burns. I’ve never seen a MSM story about them.
Added for comic relief: GE’s Immelt defends nuclear industry safety record
%$#@&#!!!! The son of Pastor Jones, the far right’s “new hero”:
People, this is why we have prisons!!!! Ya get photos of the guy being dragged off to prison wearing heavy chains, ya toss him into a deep hole, let him think about what he’s done and then ask him to explain his actions! By then, perhaps it might have dawned upon him that “Hmm, gee, that might have been a stupid thing to do.”
Wonder if Immelt is going to stop by the nuclear plant for a nice photo-op?
If you believe that, you can believe this one too.
According to the WaPo story, some folks in Pakistan dealt with Jones the old fashioned way: they put a $2.4 million bounty on his head.
Who knew burning a book was a capital offense?
“With notably rare exceptions…”
Morning BT & Firepups:
Hedges is up.
“Are you in?” is what the ads say at FDL today. barackobama.com
Yea, right
Mornin’, BT, pups
Today is the 43rd anniversary of the assassination of the Rev Dr Martin Luther King, Jr in Memphis, TN. Remember why he was there? To support the sanitation workers of Memphis. The night before he was murdered Dr King gave a speech:
Black unemployment now at Depression levels.
Just got a letter from barackobama.com asking for money.
I will be sending money. I will tape a penny to the inside of the postage-paid envelope.
Transocean
War is peace, freedom is slavery, and ignorance is strength.
We could really use a voice like King’s these days. I don’t see anyone on the landscape that carries that kind of weight. If there were, we’d see teabagger ass-kicking, pressure to end these idiot wars, a glaring light focused on the Wall Street crime wave, and more.
‘it really doesn’t matter with me now’
Sad to remember that when that was spoken, the present return to depth of valley levels wasn’t really envisioned.
Not a bad idea but I think a Canadian penny would be better.
Sharpton on Morning Joe just implied that it would be a double standard to expect Obama to care more about Black unemployment than previous presidents — who didn’t give a big rat’s ass.
Good Morning, All
Jones is a headline hound. But, he is a dangerous dog. Violence begets violence. And, rotten fruit doesn’t fall far from the rotten tree.
Or maybe a Chinese penny…
Ever better, a Colombian peso. It’s worth 1/20 of a penny. I have a few in the foreign change cup.
I don’t know, Shoto. When I think of Dr. King, Jr., I don’t think of ass-kicking. But, yes, we could use a strong voice, and I’m not hearing one.
Or an IOU for a penny.
A young version of the Rev Dr Jeremiah Wright would be nice, combined with another Malcolm X.
Speaking of Malcolm X, Manning Marable’s biography, Malcolm X: A Life of Reinvention, comes out today. Very sad that Marable didn’t live to see it published. He died last week at the age of 60.
How about a You still owe me from the last campaign note. Although, I never contributed any money to him.
I believe Muslim outrage didn’t exist until Prez Karzai of Afghanistan condemned the burning 4 days after April 20. It is not news for US domestic consumption for somebody to burn a Koran, or a US flag.
The meekest response to the Muslim Thought Police was Yale University publishing a scholarly book about the European cartoons, without the cartoons themselves.
I think the Muslim Thought Police might be trying to intimidate Westerners into self-censorship. I also think the sky is often blue.
I have a Japanese penny.
I prolly shouldn’t have put the King quote in quote format, it sorta hides the link to the speech.
Or a derivative against a fall in the penny’s value.
I’ve got a Hong Kong $2 coin.
Can’t help remembering that the radical young black movements like the Black Panthers were scornful of Dr. King for what they viewed to be his accommodation.
Raise you a baht.
Do the Republicans have their VP candidate for 2012? In other news The Great Compromiser has announced his reelection campaign. He’s hoping that 4 more years of caving into Republicans will insure they will finally love him when he finishes his second term. In a related matter the Obama love is overflowing at the HP.
Unregulated, of course, and not traded on a transparent exchange.
I also have an Arnold buck that somebody designed and posted on the web when California was writing IOUs instead of paying real money. Maybe I’ll send that instead.
And caving to Republicans is “Statesmanship.”
And where is the condemnation from the right and from prominent Republicans over what their pal Terry Jones has done? Just because you have a right to do something incredibly stupid and offensive doesn’t mean you do it. This is a serious situation…
http://www.sunstateactivist.org
Heck, I have a Socialist Libyan Arab Jamahariah Dinar I can send him.
Think about it. Oilbama is about to launch his re-election bid yet there are ten of millions of people who voted for him partly because we were unemployed or about to be unemployed and we still are. And this clown has the temerity to demand money. Fuck that. Let him cash in on the Citizens United Ruling. Those are his real constituents anyway.
There’s always “ass pennies“
I listened to part of that speech yesterday. Inspiring.
Would it be wrong for me to suggest shitting in the envelope and sending it in?
Sorry, I didn’t get past the bikinis before backing out. Too early for me. Prolly wouldn’t work for me later in the day either.
Not so much wrong as prosecutable if you actually did it.
I was thinking the same thing. Maybe a little nugget of dry cat food?
Can they actually track a plain brown envelope these days?
I think we’d rather have you here than in jail. :)
bikinis?
When I clicked on the link there were some well breasted ladies in bikinis…looked like an ad…but I had the sound down so I don’t know. But, I didn’t make it up. If I’m the only one, I better go back to bed.
I think I’ll just send him an invoice for failing to help the unemployed while starting yet another war and throwing money at big corp.
That’s the nicest thing anyone has said about me in a while.
It’s a Comedy Central video of 2 guys having a conversation on a golf course. I’m not sure what ads CC thinks you should be seeing, but I got a pizza hut ad before the video. How did it know I like pizza?
Oh, you. *g*
It’s kinda quiet here. I think people get overwhelmed with the constant flow of bad news on the weekend. Maybe?
Obama’s re-election announcement wound up in my spam folder. Perfect place for it.
The video is really obnoxious.
I think so too….just too much horrible news. Im going to write a LTE (maybe) about the $$ fraud in basketball, the Jerry Jones $$ house for losers….and the 1000 cut jobs from schools in Austin…..Just sick.
“It begins with us.” Who the eff is he talking about?
The ad I got was for Captain Morgan’s Bracket Master, some kind of contest. 32 beautiful women. I’ve read they put the ads in depending on what you link to online, is that right? I’ve never seen a connection to the kinds of subjects I read on line and what kind of ads pop up. Nevah!! Shrugging here.
Morning, Bev
What’s an LTE?
g’mornin’,
I just gotta say it’s damn surreal to have the page open up with three blue obama ads pop up.
I know, I know, they probably pay decent for the space and I don’t disagree at all in our bravenewworld. It’s reality we just live in it. But damn weird, still.
Meet the new banner, same as the old banner? whew
make me head fly back like Ah-Hamanah-Ghanda
carry on
Letter to Editor….And with the cuts, our Lege continues to threaten/propose worse budget news; hard to understand since the Gov Big Hair shouted about what a great budget he had accomplished for our state….Liar
I myself have no problem with that. It is called “paid advertising”. We should be laughing at the clowns pretending they are leading the Democratic Party and the President’s campaign.
Recall that that the worst campaign ever, was led by the incompetent Tim Kaine who was not fired for epic campaign failure.
I predict Kaine will also throw the 2012 election to the Teabaggers, just as in 2010. Then the “left” will be blamed by “Oilbama”.
I can’t wait to miss it.
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.
US KIA Afghanistan: 1,523
US KIA Irak: 4,443
Iraki, Afghan and Pakistani casualties: estimates vary to over 1.5M
US MBS 2011: 11,532 and counting

Be good to yourselves, and all other living things
Namaste
No war but class war
Never. Give. Up.
See, Prez Karzai is unsophisticated and real devout, practically a saint, if Muslims have saints. He had no idea people in AfPak would react with violence. Only the cynical would think it a political calculation on his part. As for those endangered UN personnel and US soldiers, Karzai quoted Gov Willie Stark(approximately): “Tough tiddy. You have to break eggs to make my omelette.”
Fixed it for them
Haley Barbour’s wife is just as “smart” as he is:
With a population of just under 3 million, (2,938,618 in 2008), that would be well over 100 times Marsha. Just sayin’.
How hard could that be? A Governors wife leads a hard life?????
Huh?
Oh, prolly constantly on guard for the booty calls coming in from others.
Right Barack. I’ll see if I can squeeze a donation out of my unemployment compensation. Oh wait! You gave that to the rich people! Never mind.
The big oil people have no shame; just like the other big corpses running our country. To be involved in the Gulf disaster and say “Notwithstanding the tragic loss of life in the Gulf of Mexico, we achieved an exemplary statistical safety record as measured by our total recordable incident rate and total potential severity rate,” the SEC statement reads. “As measured by these standards, we recorded the best year in safety performance in our Company’s history” is beyond any possible sense of decency. This was disaster for the dead and injured, disaster for their families, and disaster for our country for many years to come. I guess when you are a motu you need not have a conscience nor pay any penalty.
SO? He doesn’t have much of a chance anyway…I’d guess. She and Michelle can have a support group, poor thing
The media is really having a time with reporting that BenitoObama wants another term. As if we didn’t already know that.
Surely the Goopers can now decide which one of them really wants to run against him.
A lesson on sacrifice from a Southern Belle? Ah, geez, I think I’d rather watch an ad with bikinis.
Right? I’ve been waiting for my heart to bleed for either or both of them. So far, nothing.
New post up top…
AdBlock Plus in Firefox keeps those ads away. Except there’s one that pops up on the Facebook Lexulous (Scrabble) page that I keep reporting to the AdBlock folks, to no avail.
But she chose to marry a fat, racist idiot…..her very own choice.
Well, to be fair, we’ve established pretty cogently that she’s no Einstein.
The MS legislature was supposed to have adjourned on Saturday but is coming back to wrestle with the state budget this week.
Look at the time! It’s 19 months and 2 days until the election in 2012. Not even 80% of 2 years remains until the election. Time sure flies when you’re having fun.
It’s impossible to figure out why others make the choices they do, isn’t it?
Glad to see you’ve realized the difference between 20 percent and 80 percent.
Tim Pawlenty has a video response to Obama’s campaign announcement — it features Krugman
What’s on everyone’s agenda today? For my birthday, I got an outdoor faux wicker rocking chair, so I’m gonna be working, weeding, reading and playing in my garden today.
Him and Jeff Immelt silly. At least that was the “us” I assumed he was talking about. He should totally do well with the CoC this election cycle. LOL
But, twolf, we already got a new president, and we didn’t get a new direction, did we? I don’t think Tim has Palenty of charisma, and ya gotta have that to even run.
Sounds delightful, demi. Here in my neck of the woods, it is windy and gloomy and I think I’ll have to continue my kitchen cupboards cleaning adventure. But I have two kinds of spring blooms out, which makes it a cheery offset to the gloom.
Pawlenty is an idiot. The only thing helping Obama’s campaign is he is so far running with a field full of idiots and no amount of Krugman ads would convince me otherwise.
He is working on the charisma part. He recently purchased a southern drawl at Accents-R-Us.
Tulips and daffodils?
The rocking chair is made of some brown resin based plastic and really looks like wicker. I found it at Big Lots and told the mister. He snuck out and bought it for me. Since I’m such an anxious person, I find rocking is a good way to relax and chill. I used to have a nice bentwood one, but it got old and I sold it when I sold my house, 8 years ago. Have really missed it. And, rocking in the garden will be just the ticket, I think.
Gah! He’ll have to go to the tanning salon with Johnnie B. The special tanning bed, where you wear your t-shirt to get tractor tan lines. Then he’ll appeal to the Real Folks.
Tulip leaves, but no blooms yet. But I have some very tiny “mini iris” blooming near my garage that I have no recollection of planting and probably would not have put in that spot. I also have a couple of hyacinth with fat buds that should open in a few days.
Daffodils are up, but also no blooms yet. It is really early here for any flowers.
Mini iris (not my photo) is here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jcscoob/5457064764/
Does G(lobal) E (xtinction) have any good things to bring to life to balance the PCB Hudson and Nuclear Nightmare Japan, 2011 ?
Looks like the invisible market hand may have to destroy us to make a profit.
I’ve always liked irises. They must be part of the orchid family. I just went outside to take an inventory of what to do today. It’s cold and windy. Rats. I can at least pick up the dog poo and pull some weeds. All the rain we’ve gotten has been very good for the unwanted stuff.
On edit: I just checked the forcast: wind advisory until 3 this afternoon. But, but…it’s my day off.
Enjoy….a great gift….it is really rainy here and Im going to the Tax man…..See any fun there?
These are very tiny and lovely, with skinny pointed leaves. The only thing I can figure is that I dumped one of those gift planters with spring flowers and it had bulbs in it and these “planted themselves” by accident. They come up every year.
Nope. Go watch the Decora Eagles live webcam. Two tiny babies, a third egg not hatched yet, and mom feeding the babies and nesting and dad bringing food to the nest. I could spend the day watching…
http://www.ustream.tv/decoraheagles
The headline re the right’s new hero is way off the mark. Apparently almost no one likes this guy —- he’s not even getting donations from strangers on his side and his church is in serious financial trouble. Economic sanctions at their best and he still couldn’t hear the message.
Maybe you should take yourself out to lunch after that. Or watch those baby eagles. I just know you’ll discover something to smile about today. I hope. :)
As far as surprises go, that’s one of my favorites. That’s happened to me too.
So, Obama is using some of his campaign dollars here at the Lake? Not so sure it’s going to sway too many around here to support that lying sellout pos, but I’m sure FDL will put the dollars to good use.
Maybe a tax refund???
Hey Knox, are you Knoxville with a new handle?
I just know I didn’t deliberately plant them there, because they’re about 18″ from the edge of the garage and about that far from the concrete driveway, sorta behind a bush, and on the opposite side of the house from any windows and the sidewalk. I really should dig them up and replant them!
Yes. Everyone called me Knox, so I went with it.
Perhaps if FDL is as true to its values and it says it is, it would remove the Obama ads from the rotation. Or are you against him only when he chooses to not buy your site for ads?
I’m sometimes hesitant to replant “freebies”, as I figure they really want to grow where they show up. The times I tried, they usually died. And, I hate it when that happens.
Why remove the ads? I’d be concerned about it only if FDL started censoring opposition to Obama. My comment was posted on this thread and my diary – 2012: Four More Years of Obama’s Anti-Progressive, Corporatist Presidency? – was published this morning.
In 90% of the articles on this site, they are critical of the President, but then today we’re doing ads for him? Sorta conflicted isn’t it? If Republicans pay for ads, are we doing them too? Don’t give me your crap that they don’t have a say on what ads they will or won’t post, because the site obviously has the right to reject whatever ads, articles or comments it wants.
If the site and its operators were nearly as noble as they like to make themselves out to be, they wouldn’t be selling Obama to the readers. I guess in this day and age though, whatever makes a buck right? Guess the membership drive wasn’t enough, so FDL can be bought just like anyone else.
I won’t give you any of my crap.
FDL isn’t doing ads for Obama. Obama is paying for those ads. Are you saying that Obama’s campaign should not have the right to advertise at FDL?
Meanwhile, that money helps FDL do what FDL does. Now, if FDL were to allow that money to influence what FDL does and were to stop criticizing Obama, I’d say it’s a problem.
yawn
WATB much?
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/04/opinion/04krugman.html?_r=1
Krugman is spot on about the con-job the main stream media is ignoring – the Congressional hearings where climate change was to be torn down – only to have their “denier scientist” report that he has changed his mind and now buys “climate change” – followed by accusing the scientist of “having an agenda”.
