Conservative non-scholars (redundant?) like to praise conservative crackpot David Barton and his fantasy-fiction as history. Plus, we all know there isn’t a conservative politician alive who doesn’t proclaim the Second Amendment the greatest single piece of over-compensation ever given to poorly endowed ‘Muricans by the hand of God (hey…kinky).
Most importantly, when you are able to combine these two dementias into one sound bite, you are clearly worthy of being the Republican front-runner:
“I just wish that every single young person in America would be able to be under his [Barton's] tutelage and understand something about who we really are as a nation. I almost wish that there would be something like a simultaneous telecast and all Americans would be forced, forced — at gun point no less — to listen to every David Barton message. And I think our country would be better for it. I wish it’d happen.”
I suppose it is possible to argue (after all, see above) that wishing Americans be indoctrinated at gun point was somehow taken out of context (as opposed to being plainly fucking nuts) which is why it was later edited out of the video. Better get CNN’s Joe Johns on this one.

“In the name of the family values we must ask, whose family?” – Lou Reed
A CNN poll shows Huckabee running neck and neck with Obama. Obama doesn’t deserve a second term, but if this is the best the gop/tea party can do we’re really screwed.
Keeping in mind the Second Amendment was not passed so citizens could overthrow a tyrannical government. It was passed so the slave states could form militias to put down rebellions.
The Republican front runner is currently in the Oval Office.
at this point, i think we’re just talking about what position to assume.
Good morning, pups. It’s Brooks and Krugman today. In “The Defection Track” Bobo gurgles that despite a fumbled communication strategy, President Obama is actually taking a prudent course in trying to undermine Qaddafi. Prof. Krugman, in “The Mellon Strategy,” says that a Republican report argues that slashing government spending and employment in the face of a deeply depressed economy would actually create jobs. Well, so would giving unicorns and sparkle ponies to all the unemployed…
Here they are.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got waffles with warm maple syrup for breakfast. Today is our first day under our new corporate overlords. (For some reason these changes always happen on April Fool’s Day…) They switched out all the computers and allegedly have us all ready to start work this morning. We’ll see… They pride themselves on a particularly draconian internet policy, so I’ll probably be locked in mortal combat with them over what sites I can visit during my lunch break. Wish me luck! Have a great day.
Good morning,
The Blacks and Latinos, in that crowd, gave him a standing ovation in that clip./s
The republican taliban is working OT, with their voting machines, to return the Aryan nation to it’s rightful glorious place and it looks like Mike can take us where Hitler failed.
Notice that the rally-lite was called just enough before April Fools’ Day so they wouldn’t be confused. Celebrating the day very appropriate, however.
Good morning all.
I see that Huckabee is getting some work done. His hair is getting darker & he has no more wrinkles on his forehead.
Importantly, he’s forsaken any claim he might have had to good sense. Getting with the program.
but the portrait hidden in his closet is becoming more grotesque every day.
G’morning pups.
OT– I’m wondering if Citibank will be held accountable for the behavior of its Indonesian collection personnel while on the job?
Let that be a lesson to all debtors. /s (only sort of snark, until it arrives at a debt collector near you)
Makes sense, I only really have reasonable debates and learn when someone is threatening my life. I mean, does he even listen to himself?
The only good news about him being a “front runner” is that there is a stack of ammunition sitting around to torpedo his campaign with, although it seems the GOP is realizing this is a problem with most of their “candidates”.

Yep! You wouldn’t know this from current Supreme Court thinking, but its true. The militias and right to form then with arms gave power to the states to in theory cooperate and keep the federal government in check. We fought a fun little war over this. I’m sure most people remember what happened when a bunch of rogue states who finally had enough compromising over slavery and the 10th amendment decided to pull out their militias and leave the union by force.
You’d think we might remember that sort of disaster of every state having the ability to go to war with each other. Especially since so many people ended up dead. Instead we’d rather support the gun industry, because its our “right” to be able to abuse a document’s context.
Pretty closely divided though, and not very meaningful given the sorry state of the R candidates & power of incumbency.
March employment numbers out at 8:30ET. I think expectations are in the 150,000-200,000 range.
I’m not a fan of crime bosses and that is what the rich-sters are who have shown just how totally out of control they are. Another sick individual who calls himself a “business man.”
I’ll be one of those numbers. Took a full time (?) job that lasted till the contractor caught up then no calls, no work, no termination just no more paycheck but I’ll be listed as gainfully employed.
This is the most extreme job market for employers I’ve ever seen. Now jobs are offered starting under $10 an hour as the norm.
….and I think most Americans are sick of all the fun and waste of going to war. This could all take a messy turn. The Rs have certainly not put up anyone that offers a choice; wonder what a D challenger would look like. That keeps popping up, but no name has grabbed much excitement, imho.
Religions have a long history of indoctrinating people at gunpoint, or sword. Some of them still long for the good old days.
The media is already playing up the “numbers”. On a related topic 250 TeaParty Patriots demonstrate at the Capitol and the media covers it as if there were over 100,000. NPR did it’s bit this a.m. to catapult the propaganda.
An acquaintance was a statistician for a major financials company. Recently some nut wanted her to travel full time on a job for $9/hour.
This has been going on on for awhile now; glad CNN could manage to catch up: “Unpaid Jobs The New Normal?” (CNN, Mar. 25, 2011).
Read “Constantine’s Sword” lately?
You forgot the use of rape in that list. And, yes, they’re baaaack.
Obama has certainly earned a primary challenge but the willful ignorance of the U.S. public plays into the hands of the plutocracy. U.S. elections are taking on the significance of those once found in the former Soviet Union.
Of course, god forbid they get more than 25 of them together. I mean, they might need to call in the capitol police! Taxpayer dollars at work, yo.
That’s some of the worst porn I’ve seen in a long time. Wouldn’t even know where to begin, except to say that it had to have happened in Zimbabwe.
The teensyweensy teabaggage actually had most of all media there, some of the speakers even commented that there were more press than fokes. Saw it on Last Word, yesterday.
The policy goal is to keep consumers’ heads just enough above water via minimal employment gains and no “inflationary” wage increases just to keep GDP on an upward trend so that corp profits may soar. Sorry you are caught in the bastards’ trap.
Nothing like leaving the smallest possible amount of breathing room above employment, then telling people they simply aren’t working hard enough. It seems to turn people against each other even more than normal.
Yes, adversity rarely brings out the best in folks. All part of disaster capitalism.
Swim is up.
You’d think it would be easier to notice this? Its not like there have ever been patterns of just destroying the ability of lower classes to do much but add value to the debt system.
Unconscionable and horrible. Frankly I think folks like Bob Parsons of GoGaddy.Com have fantasies of making that come true right here in the US of A. They just go to Zimbabwe and do a test run. Wonder what the Bushmeat Crisis Task Force folks think about this?
Yes. Economic apartheid USA.
“Huckabee” is one degree of separation from “huckster”.
Within every republican heart lurks a fascist.
“Keeping in mind the Second Amendment was not passed so citizens could overthrow a tyrannical government. It was passed so the slave states could form militias to put down rebellions.”
No it wasn’t. The Second amendment was passed because the founders were very suspicious of large standing armies in peacetime. The militia was seen as an alternative to such armies. The militia act of 1792 said that all citizens between the ages of 18 and 45 in all the states, slave and free, were members of the militia who were required to provide themselves with an appropriate firearm for the purpose. Slave states may have used their militias against slave uprisings but that was not the reason for the second amendment.
