Senate Republicans Hold Commerce Department Hostage over Trade Deals

By: David Dayen Tuesday March 15, 2011 1:15 pm

The Administration should take the opportunity to dissolve the Department and move its parts into other federal bureaus, and blame Republicans for forcing his hand to boot.

DOD Gives Manning Caveman Gown, Says They’re Not Humiliating Him

By: emptywheel Tuesday March 15, 2011 12:30 pm

So, for those who have gotten confused by DOD’s pushback: they are still taking away Manning’s very dangerous boxers at night (though they allow him to wear such dangerous items during the day). And then, in a bid to pretend they’re not trying to drive Manning crazy, they basically make him sleep in an uncomfortable duffel bag-like garment.

State of Emergency Declared in Bahrain

By: David Dayen Tuesday March 15, 2011 11:45 am

The US has urged “restraint” in Bahrain while sending emissaries like Mike Mullen and Robert Gates to show support for the ruling regime. Wisconsin: Sen. Hopper Could Resign, Be Replaced in Recall

By: David Dayen Tuesday March 15, 2011 7:55 am

Second, there is at least some speculation that Hopper could resign the seat before a recall election could take effect, giving a successor a better opportunity to retain the seat for Republicans.
