Problem is that the voting base of the Tea Party has no fucking clue what they’re talking about. They’re knee-jerk, Biggest Loser fan, Dancing With The Stars watching, American Idol voting, ignorant morons. They do what they’re told if you scare them. Hence all the vitriol on the right.

If I didn’t love democracy so much I’d say you should have to test at a certain IQ level, or at least have a high-school diploma, to vote.

The “Tea Party” has served as the populist name for the John Birch Society and Libertarian groups that form the base of the Republican Party. It is not surprising to me in the least bit that the American public has a negative view, as it’s probably very consistent with the general view on the extreme positions that those groups hold. The American people, mostly due to the favorable reporting by the media, were scammed into believing the Tea Party was a new movement by people of all stripes shouting “No More!”. Instead, it was a large scale Brooks Brothers Riot aided in great by Rick Santelli’s rant heard around the world.

I also have T-GOP friends/acquaintances who fit the same profile as my family members. There’s a rather large percentage of T-GOPers who are NOT stupid, albeit they are definitely being misled/manipulated and are voting against their own interests.

Fortunately I have never seen one tuned to Fox, but usually one is CNN, and that day they had Alice Rivlin and Douglas Holtz-Eakin and they were going on at length about cutting spending and fixing SS. I had to switch over to the Food Channel.

The reason why the T-GOP receives so much media attention as if the denizons of this group were sane, rational folks with “good ideas,” is that the general drift of their nutty conservatism ends up being “accepted” by the population at large by a sort of osmosis… even IF the rest of the populace more-or-less finds the T-GOP either nutty and/or repugnant.

So it doesn’t really matter if the majority of the populace dislike or disagree with the T-GOP. The ideas/concepts/goals propounded by Koch’s Army end up out in the mainstream as acceptable. And so, the Elites’ goals are accomplished by a 1000 small cuts, as it were.

I take no solace in knowing that the majority of the population disagrees with the T-GOP. It’s a good post, the info is simply not relevant to the overall process of disseminating these views.
