I watched him yesterday in the PR “debate” very amusing. I loved the woman that insisted that the defunding was actually a jobs bill, that was bloody hilarious. Can’t remember her name.
In Japan, it just keeps getting worse.
Interesting take on why the US is criticizing the Japanese response from Yves Smith.
Trade futures in man-made earthquakes?
Commodities Futures Trading Commission
FWIW, I agree more with one of the comments to Yves article:
I think the US criticism of Japan is simply a cover up of their own failure (and GEs failure). The design flaws of the reactores (designed by GE) were known since at least 1972
Mornin’, BT, pups
Reading Krugman two things stood out, making me wonder if he had read 2 books whose titles, or subtitles, stood out:
I still don’t know why the Obama administration was so quick to accept defeat in the war of ideas, but the fact is that it surrendered very early in the game.
Tariq Ali’s The Obama Syndrome: Surrender at Home, War Abroad
the next time you hear Mr. Obama talk about winning the future — you should remember that the clear and present danger to the prospects of young Americans isn’t the deficit. It’s the absence of jobs.
Newt’s Winning the Future: A 21st Century Kontract With On Amerika
Oh, and don’t forget that Shrub’s granddaddy was behind Gandhi’s assassination.
Good morning, Firepups. With all of his faults, I still enjoy Weiner’s rants.
I like what Roger Ebert said, something like ” if we can’t afford NPR then we can’t afford Rush Limpballs on the Armed forces Network.”
I think it may come down to politeness. Writing “I still don’t know why you accepted defeat” reads a little better than writing “You’re a fucking coward.”
I do too. Sometimes ya just gotta get the snark on.
Good Morning, Molly.
Here we are, supposedly in the worst fiscal crisis in our history — as the Tea Party screams at us daily — and the wonderful leadership of the Republicans in Congress is giving us utterly worthless legislation to cut meaningless amounts of money from the budget for public radio that tens of millions of Americans use and appreciate every day. Well done, GOP!
I’ll bet with obama’s new and improved Middle East War “Liberating Libya” (oil),
the third time will be a charm.
What could possibly go wrong ?
Good morning pups and thanks for the post, BT.
I’m not much of a political correctness kinda guy. I like “You’re a fuckin’ coward.” Leaves no room for misunderstandament. Also.
What would Jesus Anthony say?
Or, what would Click and Clack say? Fackin’ Cowahd.
Krugman is spot on as usual except for this one line:
In short, we’re well on the way to creating a permanent underclass of the jobless. Why doesn’t Washington care?
We’re here Mr. Krugman. He goes on to say that people who have jobs are feeling more secure so those of us without them are forgotten. I get a kick out of it when employed people tell me that things are turning around. I guess that’s easy to say when you can pay your bills. Those of us who are still out of work wouldn’t know though. I get treated differently by friends now. They don’t want me around because just my presence makes them feel guilty about their optimism. In merely being near, I remind them that though they would like to have hope and security, things still suck ass, which of course is no help to my self esteem which unemployment has a way of destroying anyway.
No doubt Libya will become the next Iraq with the American taxpayer picking up 90% of the tab. What better way to serve the MIC and get Obama re-elected.
Not to mention censured by Congress for being a Nazi collaborator. I still have no idea how this was so thoroughly buried. It was taboo to even bring the subject up.
Speaking of jobs, have you heard anything about a second interview or have I missed something?
Isn’t it wonderful, feeling invisible? /s
Not since last week, nope.
I do too. Sometimes ya just gotta get the snark on.
Absolutely. It’s way past time for these wingnuts to be openly and publicly mocked and humiliated. From my perspective, caustic humor might well have a stronger effect than attempting to employ mere reason…which obviously ain’t workin’…
Morning BT, Firepups, Trolls and Various Other Hangers-On…
Had to course correct a FB friend yesterday who posted:
“The Japanese got power hooked up to one of the reactor coolers at last, and apparently things are sufficiently calm that the BBC discontinued 24 hour coverage for the first time since the earthquake.”
I was able to add some caution because of the excellent threads here at the Lake.
I still have no idea how this was so thoroughly buried. It was taboo to even bring the subject up.
Prolly afraid of getting clipped and/or being disappeared.
And, as much as you want/need a job, isn’t there a little voice in your head asking Do I even want to work for someone who can’t even pick up the phone? You’re in a situation that’s very nervous making. (((Peggy))) As if life isn’t challenging enough.
I’m waiting for our one trick troll, gvandergrift, to show up on a WI thread to play his little numbers game.
Yeah, I’m sorta in the mood for a fight, myself… heh..
So it looks like Ghadaffi has declared a cease fire…we shall see.
I know the waiting is awful, but I can’t imagine they’d have called you and talked so positively if they weren’t going to at least have you back for another interview.
EDIT: and you said they were frantically busy (which is why they were looking to hire someone) didn’t you?
Not just invisible but an eyesore. I feel like a derelict car up on blocks in the yard sometimes.
So he blinked, then?
The possibility of having a cruise missile flown up yer ass has a way of making one think.
Apparently so. It is on AlJazeera right now.
Yeah. I don’t get that part at all. I suppose I should send a follow up email today.
I am in that mood too. Fortunately I have a busy day so may not be here much.
Would it be out of the question to simply call the person who called you last week?
I just ordered the red one. Wonder how long it’ll take for some redneck to steal it.
I’m with ya, sis. Busy is good for me these days. It’s also almost a full moon. If I’m not at work, or cleaning the house, my nose is totally stuck in a book . Feeling a bit turtleish these days. And, then, when I do poke my nose into the Lake, I get admonished.
The right neutered NPR a long time ago. Their coverage has sucked for years and gave deference to the right. To be honest, if it was lost, I could care less. It was already compromised. Saving it only makes it a wounded lemming that the right is going to come back to time and time again. Cut our losses and let it go.
I just don’t understand how my friends do the PC thing and go, “NPR is so great..” but they forget their handling of torture, or how they throw softball questions to their guests. The cutting edge reporting they did long ago is long gone. Once corporations started providing their funding, they lost their teeth.
Unless Congress was going to pass legislation making NPR a stand alone entity that could never be touched or pressured, it is worthless.
Just not worth the time…
I replied to your post at yesterday’s thread about WI. I reminded you that you’re out of your depth.
I’m debating whether to follow up via phone or email.
Don’t let it get to ya. Just strike back if they mess with you.
BTW the bike came out for the first time and I went for a 10 miler yesterday, when the temps got into the 60s. Not gonna be so warm today, but yesterday was nice. The snow piles are almost completely gone and the tulips and daffs are poking out.
LMAO! That’s like Peewee Herman calling Sean Connery “puerile”. Thanks for the laugh!
You just keep thinkin’ that shit, Sparky.
I vote for phone. It’s more personal and less likely to be ignored. But, that’s just my push ways intruding.
There are NPR shows I still like. I am a “Click & Clack” fan, and “The Splendid Table” is great. And I am also very much a Diane Rehm supporter. Rarely listen to Morning Edition or ATC any more.
Bike weather. Flower poking weather. Striking back weather. Yay!
You remind me of that post by Descartes that I post therefore I am. I sense you’re validating yourself by posts which seem to be about nothing.
Well here’s a WI topic for you. Walker’s budget bill has language to place a few more political appointees into key positions.
I have his cell phone number I think in my job hunting notebook still.
Now you’re just being mean. Watch it.
But I don’t think Haley Barbour is wonderful so as bad off as I am, I’m no bigot.
See post #25. Then lecture me.
Problem is that the hiring process is like a mating ritual, and there are sometimes protocols involved and it’s difficult to tell when something is gonna seem too pushy.
Not that the situations are comparable, but my daughter learned of a position she was perfect for at her daughters’ elementary school. It was posted only a week before school started, and she landed an interview with the person at the district level and thought it went very well. Then she heard nothing and the days went by and she thought she didn’t get it. BUT it turned out that there was a mixup about who was to call her, and two days before school started she learned she’d been selected.
Sometimes in the hiring process things go awry, especially if the hiring folks are frantically busy.
Post #25 was not Margaret. Telling you that you’re being mean is an observation, not a lecture. Der.
Yeah who needs it? My self esteem is already low enough already. I get scolded for pointing out physics but trolls can waltz up and deliver personal insults with impunity.
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.
US KIA Afghanistan: 1,504
US KIA Irak: 4,440
Iraki, Afghan and Pakistani casualties: estimates vary to over 1.5M
US MBS 2011: 9,424 and counting
Be good to yourselves, and all other living things.
No war but class war.
Never. Give. Up.
“Here on Earth” and “To the Best of our Knowledge,” originating through WI Public Radio are worth a listen.
Well, then see post #43. Try to keep up. Then lecture me.
I’ve been on many job interviews in my life. And, you’re right, it is sometimes a walking a fine line process. But, I find that if I have to pussy foot around during the process, I’m probably going to have to pussy foot around the job, if I get it. And, I’m not much of a pussy footin’ kind a gal.
I’ve noticed that disparity too.
No one invited you here for insults….Hope you find the mod.
I stream Classical Minnesota Public Radio much of every day. My local NPR station is the pits, so I contribute to MPR instead. Occasionally I listen to their news station too (MPR has three stations that stream). Some of the best classical is MPR.
See post #25. I was invited here by insult.
What’s good for the goose is good for the gander. If you know what I mean.
Dem…What got you admonished? Do you mean the Teller thing? Hope all is well…
Not the Teller thing. Something else. I’ll email you this afternoon.
I’m doing fine. But, I worry about some of the folks here.
Gee, I thought you took great pride in being a troll. Poor baybeeee.
Good morning folks.
Please dial back the personal insults.
Thanks and have a great day!
Why any of you waste breath or thought on dry, empty, useless little poots is a true wonder to me. We’ve real work to do, all of us, … until the day we die.
None of us, likely, will live to see the world and society we, together, dare envision. Our children might, or theirs, perhaps … however, no one will see that better world and time unless WE continue to focus on the needful, the just, and the human.
Sour, bitter, little stinks, the noisome lot of them, cannot stand the breeze of truth … or the sweet smell of reason … leave them to their little fears, their pathetic sound-bite “philosophies”, and their childish desire to interrupt grown-up, consideration, discussion and debate. I think Raven said it best, quite some time ago, “Go away, kid, you bother me …”
Margaret what do you do as a career?
Have a good day.
My regrets that someone has absolutely no customer service skills. You do not need that nor deserve such treatment.
I really dont understand why liberals are getting so uppity about NPR. Its been terrible for 10 years. So basically liberals are trying to support that because of their own rigid ideology. Makes no sense to me. Also that Krugman article was terrible. Hes written like 20 of them saying the same thing over and over again. Things are bad so why oh why is the “liberal” goldenboy Obummer not doing anything. Ive lost almost all respect for Krugman in the past 2 years as hes showed himself to be a dem tool.
Thanks for the reminder….lots of work to do in these times that are not very encouraging.
I’m taking off, too. I just wish I was smart enough to keep up around here.
Sheeit. Sonny’s bus didn’t come, so it looks like I’ll be driving him.
You and DW are correct, as usual. I’ll focus on feeding the needy today. :)
Surely you know…we love you Dem…..
New post up top…
Clicking through to the NYT story, planned jumps out at me
In a further sign of spreading alarm that uranium in the plant could begin to melt, Japan planned to import about 150 tons of boron from South Korea and France to mix with water to be sprayed onto damaged reactors, French and South Korean officials said Friday. Boron absorbs neutrons during a nuclear reaction and can be used in an effort to stop a meltdown if the zirconium cladding on uranium fuel rods is compromised.
What? Does this mean they are dealing with contingencies never before considered? Or that Boron is the 12th thing down the list for absorbing neutrons, by which I infer they mean radioactive stuff best not loose in the air, soil, water. In which case, I’d appreciate reading about the 11 actions they had taken. Contingency planning for power plant failure was not even on my list of things I need to know, so perhaps in my ignorance, I’m being unfair. Brave new world.
In fact, some do. Oh, good. The bus just came. I get to take a bath instead of an hour long drive. Small pleasures. Thanks, Bev.
Yep….Good for the bus…
Your knowledge and perceptiveness on so many dimensions and scales is a testimony to the depth of the unemployment problem. And yes, it does make those of us who by luck (not ability) are economically secure, feel guilty. As to Krugman, like a lot of those who rose to the top in economic policy because of their ability and training, he is absolutely frustrated by the willful disregard of the few things economic science has to teach by the present administration. It is about as close to Creationism as you can get in my business. The confidence fairy is the Immaculate Conception of content-free economics.
He is just giving himself time to bring up the troops and supplies he needs to storm Benghazi. We’ve seen this movie before.
No, this is actually a good move and not the 12th thing down on this list. We were discussing this in a thread yesterday. Boron is very important to use.
If it were me, I’d call them.
I could care less if NPR is “defunded” by the USGov. IMO it’s counterproductive to have “taxpayer” funding of it bc it’s presented as this so-called increbily liberal radio station.
IMO it was never ever “liberal.” Rather it *used to be* (like a decade ago) just more or less objective and engaged in actual real “journalisim” and reporting… something which is mostly all gone from ALL US media, all of which have become rightwing mouthpieces pumping out spin, lies, distortions, false equivalencies and propoganda. That includes present-day NPR.
From my perspective I no longer wish to fund NPR/PBS because they are nothing more than mouthpieces for the corporations and Oligarchs. They are both *tainted* by the Kochs, the Scaifes, etc, who fund them and control their message.
I like some of the weekend programs, but I hardly ever bother to listen to or watch that corporate propoganda media anymore. ptoui!!!
Just makes the Dems look ever more useless and pathetic to, you know, actually argue in supporting it. Stupid, useless corporate shills, just like the Rethugs across the aisle. ptoui!!!
Word. I hate to give the know-nothings another victory in the public information field, but NPR is no loss at all.
Actually, I’ll revise that. In areas other than the top 6 – 8 media markets, NPR does have some value, because the rest of radio is all truly socially pernicious. So, probably, a very large number of people do get some real value from their local NPR station.
I’m in San Diego lately, with one really crappy NPR station, and it is the only station even remotely worth checking in with. Thank gawd for the interwebs.
Hey, but that means GE kept them safe and warm for 40 years!
LOL, just watched the video! Thank you BT!
Kudos to you! :)
Anthony Weiner is the real thing. We need more of this kind of politician.
Most other Democrats are frightened pussies. I just sent the small amount of savings I had set aside for the 2012 Presidential Campaign to Rep. Weiner.
Go man go.
Weiner’s turning into Alan Grayson, which is a good thing. He’s not there yet, but he’s showing some potential.
Too bad he had to publicly attack Grayson while AG was still in office for being too, you know, Grayson-y. Just one of the million reasons why I as a liberal loathe all elected democrats.
But they kept funding for NASCAR.
